ED007/Green Jhedi as ones on the ball
regarding Celtic's finances..
If as predicted we make £20m+ from
CL this season, I take it debt will be
paid off, confused about size of our
debt, heard talk of a £10m loan from
Cooperative Bank, is this a loan or an
overdraft figure if we need it?
My feelings is that Lawwell will look to
NEXT season, as we have 3 CL qualifiers
and are unseeded, so I suspect Neil
will see very little of this £20m unless
we qualify next season also.
The fans have rallied round and bought
46,000+ season tickets and bought most
of the CL tickets, but if not investment
in team by board, I can see a lot of
fans not renewing ST next season.
ED007/GJ what are your views?
Celtic fans will back team to the hilt
but they must see some decent
investment in the team. Timalloy

Believable4 Unbelievable2

I have to agree with you, but hopefully by this time next year we will have progressed as a team and hopefully won't need to invest to heavily in the market. If we can clear our debt and progress as well even better. We don't want to get like the other lot. We have to trust the board and management, we are all here for the long hall.
Robbie

Agree1 Disagree2

I disagree, the debt looks like it is paid off or at least going to be half, say with improved contracts for the players. But some may move on and we may make a good profit which could buy miku if all works out(if a clause, think it will and he looks something good and would understand the club being #7 and all,but time will tell) if not it could go to transfers. It will be even harder next year so I think(hope)the board will give nl a good budget to get the players we need, they know they have to repay the fans and I think they will(don't forget cheaper cl prices).
We all need to remember that it is hard times for every club and the board has done very well, not only in looking after the club but making it grow with proof in our youth teams. C-Bhoy

@ Timalloy; As far as i know the 10 million is an agreed overdraft figure should we need it.I also think Mr Lawwell is playing a financial blinder in times of world wide fiscal problems.I think Lenny might see some cash but not an excessive amount.I see us as a Europa league side who might qualify for the CL occasionally.I think we might keep some cash in reserve in the bank and will be looking to be debt free in a few years.Greens statement about his balance sheet being better than Celtics might just come back to haunt him,and i think Lawwel might just have taken note of it! I agree we have stepped up to the plate this season but i also think that the big season book sales might be over for a few years. If it was me i would be preparing to downsize wages and costs as that would allow me to sell season books at a much reduced cost to keep the cash flow coming in early.I also think that we need to be more pro active with regards to new revenue streams.Trying to get youngsters interested in football is hard with all the other distractions they can get without leaving their bedroom!.......green jhedi

Chico at it again, getting really boring now. He needs to read that little book he got from companies House when he registered his Sevco Scotland club. You know the one laying out the responsibilities of Directors in Scotland. He falls foul of those regs on so many levels. Not just the lies.
While I'm here.... Oldco players deserve their medals stripped they are all morally reprehensible, deciding to work in Scotland and take illegal offshore payments and evade income tax payments whilst working in Glasgow. They knew it was dodgy as hell and morally wrong but went ahead with it. No TV company should be paying them to commentate on tv. Those guys cheated those medals against honest clean players.

Believable6 Unbelievable0

Former Rangers Manager and Rangers EBT tax evading, double contracted beneficiary Eck McLeish joins the list of former EBT cheats speaking out against the SPL investigation lead by Lord Nimmo- Smith.

I have to say I'm ever so slightly concerned about this NS guy. He's gone terribly lenient on Newco already, even breaking the regulations to make up a singular weak punishment.
Stalwart work Ed, keep them honest.

Agree6 Disagree0

Forgot to mention....... Isn't it notable when new club Rangers recruit and play honest clean footballers not on EBTs their level of football diminishes somewhat?
They'll never cleanly get back to CL level again and will need a new scam. 12 years of EBTs to try and keep up with MO'N and GS and NL.

Agree7 Disagree0

It's clear to me Eck McLeish is angling for Ally's job. Four interviews in two days on Rangers lol....... Watch yir back Ally..... Jobs are scarce..... Nae mair jobs wae the council.

Surprised CG has gone public on private meetings regarding behind closed door deals. You just don't whistle blow like that and should expect righteous retribution for being so publicly indiscreet. It's not how a proper chap behaves.

benfica certainly done their homework on us, got there point but defo no great shakes, we can turn in a similar game on there patch. samaras was a big miss last night looking forward him linking with miku who has a super first touch. next step is away points at this level.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

I think another 0-0 on their turf, with our injured guys available is realistic. An away point would be great.

Alright Ed how are you? Did you hear CGs latest offering? A wee snippet "What we have to understand is not everyone in that room wanted Rangers out of that league and I know - because I could see glints in eyes - which ones were happy and which ones were not.
"We recognise what happened and when some of these clubs come to Ibrox they will be welcome. When others come, they won't be so welcome." I know this clown is trying to get newco fans onside but his outbursts are nothing short of scandalous. Saying spl clubs won't be made welcome when they visit is surley worth another call from the authorities?

Briggs {Ed007's Note - I'd be more worried about a man scanning a room of men to see if they had a glint in their eye if I am honest. There is nightclubs for that sort of thing if that is your lifestyle choice.
We've had all the Rangers (remember them?) fans to obsess over NL's looks, appearance and choice of attire for years, now The Rangers owner is looking deeply into men's eyes...

Could CG actually be Jolly Boy John's father... Let's look at the facts....

JBJ keeps stealing his dad's wigs, CG isn't exactly Captain Caveman.

Both have appeared and gained popularity at the same time in Scotland.

They both are comedy characters in low budget Scottish production of entertainment that has a bit of a cult following.

They both appear suddenly, have a rant then disappear leaving you howling in laughter.

JBJ wears an old 70's style parka, CG is from Yorkshire, everything there is like the 70's.

The truth is out there.......

From reptilian shape-shifters like Craig Whyte to two different entities, one dead and one alive, existing and living as one single living creation and two half daft comical eejits that have never been seen together......

P.s. Eye glitches (glints) are a sign of reptilian shape-shifting.}

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Brilliant Ed.

Ally's a shape shifter..... He keeps getting fatter.

Well said ed. quality mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

If that isn't bringing the game into disrepute I don't know what is. He is putting the safety of visiting fans at risk. I suppose he now has to tell us who the welcome ones are just so any visiting fans of the others can avoid any risk. This man is a buffoon but an increasingly dangerous one. Thankfully there will probably be only one more spl side going there after Motherwell.

Hey wee Pat thanks for er "looking after" my house, but the permanent police car outside is a bit of an embarrassment...
While in America we took a trip to San Francisco then over to Alcatraz
in one cell on the wall was written "wee Pat fae posso was here" the warden asked if I knew him, "know him, I will not have a bad word said about him, unless it is me that is saying it"..
Back in Frisco ( see already talking like a native) we met two local dancers

1. the term "clean sheets!"( not to be confused with the clean sheets that the common or garden currint bun would come across during his/her very short life span, where the only cleen sheets that they would come across would be the ones in the std ward of the southern general hoaspitul when hivin the ends of their extremely small penises sanded doon wae a black n deckur (model no: hy1600 turbo) only for the "clean sheets)

the reason that his/hers were posted was for the avoidence of doubt that the payshunt sevconian can in fact be either male or female who in fact share the same genitalia,& in most cases indeed its more common for the female( large testicles bulging eyes & masses of body hair)
to instigate the mating procedure with the male ( large drooping breasts with pierced vaginas ( both) & although he has bulging eyes also he can easily be identified as the male due to 6 toes on each hand & webbed fingers (on feet),
so to recap on the aforemenshund post please think before ye drink( or talk), & had it not been for the celtic supporter who invented the type writer/keyboard then all communication with this dying breed would otherwise be non existent.

I dont see why people are happy with
that performance when you didnt test
the Benfica goalie once. It was a poor
game, Celtics tactics were negative.

I remember you all slating the Gers
for playing 4-5-1 and you done it last
night! benfica were never in trouble
at all. Quite embarassing to hear Lenny
claim that Celtic won the respect of
european football with a 0-0 bore draw
against an average CL side.

Agree6 Disagree0

You have only one point correct...there is no comparison ~ Mrs E

Agree6 Disagree1

Firstly, just about every team in europe plays some kind of 451 formation these days, diference is when rangers used it they played a very negative game which rarely included ventures into the opposition half other than a long punt to Miller. Secondly, considering Celtic were without key players like Ledley, Samaras, Kayal and Stokes I would say a draw against a team like Benfica is a respectable result.

Whilst the result was not our greatest,I do believe it was ok and could have been a lot worse.Izzy was very poor and looks as if he's still carrying an injury.A real lack of confidence and hurried passes on his part. There were however some huge performances in Brown,67 & Commons. The rest were good including Mathews(Massive test from higher caliber of player) and Wilson who is begining to look the player Lenny thought he was(dare I say it-In the Rio Ferdinand mould... I know,Don't all jump on me at once but it's what I see at a basic level.

That reporter lamont clearly has issues with Celtic, have you seen his reports on last night, jeez anyone would think it was queen of the south we were playing. Benfica are a mid range team in Europe- I one that sells players 20-30 million a go and still have the likes of cardozo and aimar. {Ed007's Note - Put Gaitan in that bracket as well. Man Utd tried to sign him in the summer to replace Nani if he had left.}

Believable6 Unbelievable0

Or maybe the media and all know that Celtic is way better then last night so they say we didn't play well. Good to know that the former dead clubs fans are starting to see the light of just how good Celtic is but put too much expectations on them, but let them away with it, cause they are new fans to the club and have to adjust to proper football and how a great business and clubs is runned. We still need to inform them to open thier eyes a wee bit more Lol. C-Bhoy

Well you gotta be pleased with that display.More plus points than negatives for me.To go toe to toe with a seasoned CL outfit with TEN CL virgins was risky but fair play to Neil,he showed faith and courage, just like his team.My markings?
FF;done what was asked,when required.7
AM;starting to reach a level where he never looks out of place and always seems keen to learn and adapt.7
ML;still gets caught dreaming too much for me and his marking can be poor.Average.5
KW;is this the guy Lenny put so much faith in? Confidence seems to have returned and is starting to show.7
IZZY;Worrying.Seems to be a different player to the izzy pre injury.Losing possession far to much and not effective going forward.6
VW;a giant.what a shift from the big man, booking curtailed him slightly but a great game.8
SB; a real captain.gave nothing up and fought for every ball.Inspirational.9
CM;solid enough after a shaky game on saturday.7
JF;disappointing for me.If service is slow hunt for the ball and help your mates.dived and still spends too much time pleading with refs.some bench time needed?6
KC; Couple of clever tries to catch the keeper but needed to do more.little service but was disciplined.6
MIKU; Might come good.there seems to be something there.Lovely early touch for Commons showed that.5
All things considered, with the players we have returning,i think third place and the Europa is realistic.I would take it now! Lastly.a word for lenny.Bold subs to re shape the team shows he is learning well and,as always, the support never fails on CL nights,amazing.............green jhedi

Believable2 Unbelievable2

I must have been at a different Celtic Park to you last night. I thought Lustig played very well last, and i can't understand how you have given more points to forrest and Izzy than Miku? I think we will qualify to the last 16 as i believe we will pick up points away from home. Mon the Hoops!

Red Devil

Agree4 Disagree0

GJ..hope you are well.

I would says pretty accurate assessment although in James Forrest's defence, he was well marked and I don't know why he gets a high ball passed to him. He's not exactly tall !

I'm quite liking the look of Miku and starting to get my hopes up about him. Thought the match itself was quite good for having no goals and defo a few positives. Izzy no where near the player he was and could be a confidence issue.

Still Kayal, Ledley and Sammy to return and hopefully pick up points away from home.

Spartak did score 2 goals albeit an own goal at the Nou Camp so they will have taken a major boost from that.

Mrs E

Agree3 Disagree0

You gave Izzy a 6 and Lustig a 5 . Izzy was terrible , we should have signed a left back like David Murphy or the boy Dixon who was on a free as competition for Izzy . I thought Lustig was having a good game until injury and seems to be a better CH than a RB . Commons and Forest 6 apiece . Commons was well better than Forest although I think Benfica seen him as a danger and always had a couple of markers on him . I would just love to see a player with a bit of guile to open up defences like Naka or Lubo . But all in all decent show with as you say 10 novices and injuries to key players . Future looks healthy , bring on Spartak ........DH

Agree4 Disagree0

A good and accurate assessment Green Jhedi Though Forrest wasn't good last night think he is still carrying an injury and the service was not as good as it could have been, maybe needs a wee rest he is still one of our most exciting players for me and is still a young lad

Fellow hhoys, have you noticed that all the good teams press the ball when they dont have it which results i us playing the long ball when under pressure. We then seem to back off to the half way line when they have it allowing them time to find pasy asses. We need to wake up to this as really good teams i.e. barca willpick us off. Any thoughts

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Agree a bit but did you see how many times the benfica d had to kick out the ball because of how much pressure was on them? Miku was right up them pressuring the d giving them no time to waste, so I think Lennon told them to press more but don't get caught out which they did. I was really impressed with just how many times we made them kick out the ball in thier own end to get us deep throw ins, we will be seeing more tricks I'm sure as Lennon tries something's.

Not a bad result last night but the win could have been there poor performances from izza and Forrest. Think hopper needs to hot the gym he's gotten slow. Common has to stop shooting from range so much. But I would take this result due the the players we have out. Sammy would have may a difference that cutting edge on big nights. I know Forrest didn't have a good game but I don't see why some are on here saying that he is over hyped and not as good and all, what I saw in the game was benfica players always around him to close him down. 3 players around him most of the time so I think benfica was worry of him and they planned to shut him down.

Believable5 Unbelievable1

If Forrest had 3 players around him, that must mean there is space elsewhere and he should make better use of the ball not just blindly run at them. All in all I am very disappointed, a very ordinary Benfica makes me realise how ordinary we are! We have no goal threat going forward which means we don`t occupy opposition defenders which will make the Barca games ressemble the "Alamo". Same defensive frailties still exist and I can`t see anyone fearing us unless we improve dramaticly. Sorry to sound so pessamistic, but time for a touch of realism I`m afraid.

Gers fan coming in peace. Watched the game tonight and thought Celtic did ok, but wonder why Scottish teams try to play a game that they don't play week in week out.
I have thought this for many years watching my own team, it just seems to me that Benfica were there for the taking, a bit of hundred mile an hour stuff would have seen them off.

I remember the days and am going back a lot of years
When we played Juventus, they had nine of the team that won the world cup, and we battered them. They were far better than us but they "don't like it up them". I just wish Scottish teams would have a go, play to our strengths and let them worry about us. This keeping the ball is something we are not very good at, so why play them at their game?

I feel the same about the national team, we play a game totally alien to us. Our trip to UEFA cup final may be looked upon as a success but it was the most boring run ever, we bored teams into submission.

I was at the recent Scotland games and it was utter dross, it seems to be a success that we made three chances in a game, what? One chance every half hour, not edge of the seat stuff. We have a manager who thinks he's Guardiola and can play with no strikers.

I think you will struggle to get many more points in a real tough group, but would you not prefer having a right go, I remember many nights at Parkhead and Ibrox when we blew better teams away with a bit go grit and determination. I for one would rather watch that than one chance every half an hour.

Incidentally, my pet hate, Scott Frown was immense tonight.

I was telling my son about the night that Rangers were in Cup Winners Cup semi at Ibrox and Celtic were in the semi of the European Cup semi final the same night at Parkhead. I won't remind you of the outcome but the point is what an achievement that was. God how far have we slipped behind in forty years, some more than others, I know.

Give us some blood and guts!

Believable3 Unbelievable3

The blood and guts as you call it never did us any good so this new approach is needed. I'll take a point as a lot of our players are young and only brown had played at this level.

Agree4 Disagree1

To the OP. Your post is balanced and accurate and along with the majority of like minded Celtic fans I welcome any rangers fans coming on here with considered opinions not spouting any bile.

However, I would say that the Celtic performance last night was an accurate reflection of where Scottish football is at right now. The ' happy just to be at the party' attitude is a prevalent but realistic assessment of our game both at club and international level. The money for being at the top table of european football IS the reward as teams from outside Europes big leagues are not going to win the trophy given the money the elite clubs are prepared to throw at a sniff of glory.

SCotlands champions, whoever they have been for the last few years have struggled to compete with mediocre English championship clubs in recent transfer windows due to the tv money they receive in comparison to the SPL teams. Blackpool and Blackburn average 12000 in attendances and yet Blackburn can spend £8 million on Jordan Rhodes. We simply can't afford to do that and the league in Scotland gets poorer year on year.

This will continue and despite UEFAs pledge with the financial fair play system it will be years before we can hope to get close to spending big money that the likes of PSG, Man City, Real Madrdid et al are spending, if ever. It's not sustainable in SCotland and this is the reason for the backs to the wall type of performances Scottish clubs and the national team put in on a all too regular basis.

I'm afraid this is as good as it gets....

Hail hail. Jim Dhoc {Ed001's Note - Blackburn can't afford to pay 8m for Rhodes due to TV money, complete fallacy. They can afford it because their owners are willing to mortgage their future on getting back into the Prem. Make no bones about it, Blackburn did not have 8m, that is piled onto debt.}
