Either Toure or Duffy I would guess.

Knowing our luck it will be Charlie "I think i'm Franz Beckanbauer but i'm really shite" Mulgrew lol.

Head out the sand lads. We need more physical strength and height in the team, someone who can take a set piece, a commanding centre half, a new central midfield captain and enforcer that will overshadow Barton and another forward. Griffiths is a very good SPL player but not good enough in Europe or against a hungry Orc team.

Believable3 Unbelievable9

21 Jul 2016 02:18:48
Few additions needed granted.
I'll wager LG will score more goals against the "hungry" orcs by himself than their front line will do between them against us and Aberdeen included (if the sheep don't bottle it ;)
As for Barton. if there is anything left of his shins by the end of the season I'll be surprised. He has made himself a target in this league with his comments. Watch for him hanging about the box if they are needing a decision and a goal.

Agree2 Disagree1

21 Jul 2016 07:07:18
Let's not do him a disservice, loudmouth scumbag he may be, but he's a useful player. I'm not worried but he will boss every other midfield this year. He's a good signing for them.
And has the necessary character.

Agree2 Disagree3

21 Jul 2016 07:57:21
I doubt our transfer strategy will be based on that Muppet signing for them. Do we need a new midfielder? Most likely. Is it because they signed Barton? No. People should stop buying into the msm spin, Rangers are of no threat to us this season. Oh and I doubt Barton will be 'bossing' every other midfield, especially not big Mo Donnati at Hamilton.

Agree1 Disagree1

21 Jul 2016 09:55:13
barton if he is on his game and stays out of trouble will be a stellar signing for them, don't know about no threat mikey, they have brought in some good players.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2016 10:49:30
No they haven't mate, Barton on his game, decent player still a d* ck, Croatian hasn't played more than 4 games in last 2 seasons , 2 young boys totally unproven at any level , could be anything including s**e.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2016 13:18:54
we all know the guys a dick fab, but he's still a cut above the spl imo,

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Jul 2016 13:48:57
He was in the championship team of the year at 33 years old. By the way the English championship s**ts all over the spfl, he's a quality player n had it not been for his behaviour he'd of been even better. I don't like him, but I can admit he's good n is a good signing. Rangers will be a threat, have people forgot about the Scottish cup? It's complacency that will help them become even more of a threat. Heads out of the sand indeed.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2016 22:54:30
Stevie bhoy 67 .
Are you sure he was in the Championship team of the year, is it Rangers propaganda, or was it a case of the media voting one of their own.

Wee moan.
Think we need to do better with corners.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

20 Jul 2016 23:30:25
Thats nothing more than practice on who and how we take them, which by all accounts should be every day at training.
A bit more invention than the norm would not go a miss so we have a veriation.

Agree2 Disagree0

21 Jul 2016 01:13:13
The corners have been poor for years, but we could easily got a goal tonight from one tonight
I thought the delivery from the free - kick which led to Lustig's goal was excellent.

21 Jul 2016 08:38:30
They are regularly over hit. Needs to be sorted out.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2016 22:57:25
kev83.i have been saying for years, just as we have a defender covering near post area when we are defending, we should have someone way beyond the back post to be able to return the over- hit corner.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jul 2016 22:36:46
To be really honest I thought the performance tonite was no more than average! Couple of decent performances but come on to fook guys this mob are no better than a 2nd division team over here! Be in no doubt that if we perform against Astana like we did over the 2 games against this mob then we're out! Far to slow and slack in our build up as usual tonite! We should have torn that team to shreds tonite and we didn't! 2nd half was awful! And like I said, if we play like that against Astana then it EL for us again! I don't even think the back was a problem tonite if I'm honest! KT Erick and lustig to me are 3 solid players! From midfield to upfront the lack of pace or imagination is a real worry! Just an opinion but lads and some mite disagree! But if we don't add quality in the next few weeks then we're in for a long season!

Believable5 Unbelievable1

21 Jul 2016 01:20:04
I don't like you been too optimistic Beav 81.
I think having played a couple more games and had another week's training we will be more up for the matches against Astana . It won't be easy but our manager and players are learning all the time off each other . It was refreshing the attacking line - out B R set up tonight and I don't think many of us would agree but we destroyed what was in front of us in the first half and killed the tie off . No certainities in football but I think we can get by this difficult round .

Agree2 Disagree1

21 Jul 2016 09:57:21
as the weeks go on i think we will see a vast difference, coupled with a few quality signings we should have the makings of a very good team.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2016 11:20:04
I think we played really well considering we are only 4weeks into preseason under a new manager with new style of playing. He changed tactics during the match, something which was refreshing. After reading a few posts on here and else where, I feel some of us expect it to happen immediately, I saw improvement compared to a week ago. On another night we could have scored a bucket load. Their keeper made some excellent saves. A long way to go. BR didn't go to hogwarth with harry Potter.

As for signings. This is where I am going to be doom and gloom. I can't see anything happening before 11pm tonight.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jul 2016 22:35:39
A no it's early days but a thought dembely looked lazy tonight, thought brown had a decent game but way off the SB We had few years ago.

Believable1 Unbelievable4

20 Jul 2016 22:25:02
I am happy with the performance and the result tonight I thought we played well in the midfield and up front, difficult to evaluate the defence as they had very little to do. I thought Broony was great tonight. for all those fans who continually ask for him to be axed it's going to be a long season typing after every game. He is the captain and BR is going to organise the team around him.

Believable2 Unbelievable4

20 Jul 2016 22:48:42
Browns level tonight. Same kinda opposition as east kilbride.

Agree1 Disagree2

20 Jul 2016 22:50:27
Guys, I sometimes feel that we are blinded by the decent thing to say in defence of Celtic. The issues are still there. Brown IS finished, if he ups his game then fair play but he has no intelligence as a Celtic captain. We need a quality and imposing central defender possibly two. A right back and an enforcer in the midfield. We also need another striker. Like many of you I've suffered the dark years before the burns and MON days. We are too small in stature, not enough captain material and a lot of youth but we need battle hardened strong characters and that costs money. Aside from the manager we have actually spent nothing. You need to build a team but the orcs are well ahead in terms of strengthening. Be under no illusion the current team is not capable of beating the orange brigade over 4 matches or Aberdeen for that matter and the same could be said of entry to the champions league. That's a fact. We have the manager and resource to make it happen. The young talent is promising but you need to add winning mentalities and enforcers on the pitch as that mob will be kicking and biting through the current squad. Not easy to offload players as you need a buying party but agree a few off the wage bill can create a carrot for the better players. If BR can transform 3 average current players I for one would be pleased as a bonus. We need 5 players to stay on top and be in the CL or we will open the door to Ibrox. Capabilities from a position of strength. We've noticeably slipped down the EUFA rankings but for championship money you could be securing the likes of Rosenberg, Legia etc best players and it would be a step up for them as a package. St justa would be a great signing and would also offer huge return value.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Jul 2016 23:01:43
I'm concerned because we need new players, even if the current squad delivered a top performance it doesn't mask the fact that they are not good enough to get into the CL or beat sevco over 4 games or indeed Aberdeen.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Jul 2016 23:39:26
This squad of players needs improving no doubt but it finished 15 points in front of Aberdeen last season why wouldn't it do the same this season. there are a lot. Of Celtic fans very anxious about what is happening over at Ibrox, I can't understand why they are signing a collection of has beens, free agents and second raters we will wipe the floor with them over three games and four if they make the top six. By the way typing in capitals does not strengthen an argument never the less Scott brown IS NOT finished, not anywhere near it.

Agree0 Disagree1

20 Jul 2016 23:53:15
We did what we should of done in the first leg bud. We had a spell, scored a few then stepped off. I enjoyed the win. To say there isn't enough to beat the rangers or Aberdeen and win 3 out of 4 then I don't think so. Point is and I'm sure it's one you will agree on is we should be able to do it with a bit more to get excited about, rather than just recording the wins. A few players showed some promise last year to move forward with and the last two signings look OK so far. 2 or 3 more would be a real advantage. If Europe is what we are targeting then imo we haven't moved quickly enough and it has slowed us down targeting players that could wait for a bigger wage that play down the road. Do our scouts not have passports?

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2016 00:07:03
I listened to the game on the radio tonight, so I have to rely on how the commentators percieved the game, according to them Armstrong had a good game, Roberts had a brilliant first half and the red imps goalie saved his team from a very heavy defeat., this goalie is 38,and I started thinking wasn't Ronnie Simpson the same age when he came back to Celtic, just a thought, maybe he do as a back up/
Replacement to zGordon, but my guestion to anyone that was at the match, in the midfield, was there enough creativity and inventiveness and guile, for in Europe that is what separates the teams with good/ lucky defence/ attackd, that was one of Ronnies biggest mistakes playing Johansen and Biton, instead of Armstrong and Allan, and this season Henderson is availabke as well, zI hope BR realised Scot Brown had been a great servant to the club, but age has caught up with him, and sadly he must be dropped.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2016 00:44:33
It was what it was aindoh. I don't think we learned anything. We did the job that was expect first time round. To sum it up, we played well against a team that looked like an early draw of a domestic cup. BR was again stressing preseason preparation and to me that is what it felt like after the goals. Until we line up in the 2nd and hopefully 3rd round then we will get a better idea how players are responding. Early days but glad to go through.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2016 01:34:51
After last week's debacle I was delighted to come through tonight and have the tie won in 30 mins . We were not perfect tonight but we dealt capably with what was in front of us . Just mentioning a few players . Lustig did very well, spun round and drove the ball home brilliantly, wasn't pressurised in defence but was alert enough to cover Erik on a couple of occasions . Brown played well, more like the player of a couple of years ago, leading and encouraging, played a few slack passes and a few unnecessary back passes but some delightful foreward passes both long and short . Wee Forrest started off brilliantly cutting g through defenders and getting crosses in . In fact I think he set an early tempo which the rest took up. He didn't seem to get fed with the ball as often from around 35 mins and faded out, maybe because Roberts was so brilliant on other wing . McGregor and Armstrong were very good . Our front two LG and M D missed a bagful but I think they could become a very lethal partnership with plenty of goals . I think we seen the basis of a good team tonight, with one or two in we could become very good and definitely worth watching .

Agree1 Disagree2

21 Jul 2016 08:13:07
Tasty, why are you so obsessed with what Rangers are doing? That's two posts I've seen now where you seem more concerned with them than anything else. They are signing out of contract players for no or very little fees. Yes it may be strengthening their team but to be fair that would not have been a difficult task. There is no doubting we need a few players in but we are talking a whole different market. We need quality players to take us forward, this costs a lot of money and cannot be rushed and made an arse of. Also we offer people deals and need to wait on answers before the deal gets done or we can move on to the next target. Mark my words, rangers are not a threat. By the time September comes we will be much stronger, fitter and getting used to the new managers way. I'd be more concerned about getting a winger and defender in before Astana than what that mob can do.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Jul 2016 23:06:44
It won't be the Rangers signings or their existing players that will cause us the most worry . It will be the MSSM and the referees that will try to affect the confidence of players and supporters . The strange decisions which the MSSM will ignore could affect the players concentration, remember the referee over ruled the lines man in the last game between us and them, our players stupidly hesitated and they scored, wee moves by officials always seem in the one direction.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jul 2016 22:12:38
Job done tonight, but we definitely need to get at least a centre back for the next round as against a better side we will still be vulnerable. It will be interesting now as everyone knows we need one but we are on a timescale now with the next round coming up. Also depending who we bring in won't be as far along fitness wise as the rest of the team and could be a risk with a new defender who probably won't have played beside his new partner. But it's better than ambrose!

20 Jul 2016 21:53:00
Few things fae tonight.
Roberts is a must. Better enjoy him while he's here.
Mcgregor is really impressing me.
Armstrong must play in middle.
Best I have seen of forrest in a long long time. Really helped stretch the imps.
Their goalie should be playing at a higher level.

this mob are pretty good by the looks of it.

20 Jul 2016 22:20:05
Forrest did look good but look at the level of oppsoition he is up against. Roberts looked like messi tonight but again we played a pub team. Test will be next game an if we progress we are most likely to play a stonger opposition.

Agree1 Disagree2

20 Jul 2016 22:20:43
I thought mcgregor was poor tonight all 11 players that started played a lot better than last week. agree with you about Armstrong looks more effective in the middle with Roberts and forrest on the wings the pace they both play at was good to watch also Griffiths back in central looks 100 times better I think dembele was unlucky not to score tonight.

Agree1 Disagree2

20 Jul 2016 22:44:19
Must have been watching a different game to you bud.
Thought mcgregor was very good.
Bit of play for Roberts goal was great.
Hit the bar.
Had a couple wayward passes at start but after that was good.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Jul 2016 23:46:33
I like mcgregor and think he should be in the starting 11 but to many wayward passes tonight and ballooned shots the 1 that hit the bar was a deflection. where do you think he's most effective Kev I like him through the middle.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2016 01:38:29
It's a wee bit disappointing Kev 83 I agree entirely with your post, the disheartening thing is that we are all down and criticise the team when we lose, but when we have what appears to be a decent win, the opposition is rank rotten .

Agree0 Disagree1

20 Jul 2016 21:48:40
I worry for next round unfortunately still poor at back brown poor as usual. Need strikers to get finishing boots on by the Astra game or it'll beveuropa league. Roberts a stand out pure class.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

20 Jul 2016 22:07:42
I thought we were really good in the first half, they were tough to break down as they were always going to sit in to try to protect their lead. Second half they came out a bit more but never caused us any real problems.

I doubt we will be as attacking next week but far more positive of us getting through against Astana than I was after watching last weeks game.

Hopefully tomorrow we can at least get in a new centre half in.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jul 2016 22:17:01
That was a good performance, for my money brown played well, he continually fed Roberts and Forrest and started the attacks, it was noticeable that we played quicker with more emphasis on forward movement without Biton. We really need a centre half in for next week.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Jul 2016 01:40:52

Interesting squad for tonights game.

I know lots of these players are injured but do we really need any of them,
Bailly Fisher Boyata Ambrose Siminovic McConnell Commons Biton Johansen Allan
Better to let these go and save on payroll.

Why let go of simunovic?
The guy breaks a bone so should be bombed out?

Broony is definitely off the pace all over the field. Not showing anything at all and he seems likely to give the ball away every time he gets it. Dunno what's up with him in recent months but he needs to step up to the plate.

Agree0 Disagree2

20 Jul 2016 21:41:15
I only saw the second half and he kept the ball well and played a good few passes. But I know what he is capable of and I don't doubt he was at it in the first half giving it away.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jul 2016 21:51:17
There were more than just Brown off the pace. Our finishing was clearly rusty but the result was the main thing.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jul 2016 21:54:02
Brown is great at breaking up the play, celtics own play that is with piss poor passing! Also gives away too many needless fouls in dangerous areas and also doesn't look mobile enough anymore.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Jul 2016 22:20:00
Brown played well the whole game, he had a couple of misplaced passes in the first half so what, other players did the same, the worst mistake was by Erik but I don't see anyone commenting on that, if Efe had done it there would be an outcry.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Jul 2016 01:47:44
Brown has been rubbish since Christmas and with the longer break to help him recover, maybe he needs more time . I thought I saw improvement tonight and it says something about what Brown brings to the table if one of his critics claims he was miss passing all over the field, at least he was getting all over the field leading his men.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jul 2016 20:31:21
Great display so far but Scott brown is really awful he can't pass a ball 5 yards but rest of the team playing really well with great pace.

Agree4 Disagree0

20 Jul 2016 21:48:56

Kev83. I thought there was a big improvement in Brown 's play, in fact I though Brown Armstrong and Mc Gregor were very good tonight . Th Lincoln Imps may only have a half dozen full time professionals but they were the best team I have ever seen to attack the ball and block the shots before they got near the goals and they kept it up over the two legs.

Villa must be kidding if they want more than,3 million for Sinclair, they bought him for just over 2 million, he was part of a demotion squad, and they want a profit off him, now I'm no footballing genius but surely that would bring his stock down.

Said the same a few weeks back. They're entitled to ask what they want but quite how they think he's worth the reported 6m after his time with them is beyond me.

I wouldn't put another bid in for him, Villa are taking the piss. time to move on to other targets. I imagine when we get the game over with tonight we will see a couple of new players in over the next few days.

I don't think we would be on bid number 3 under 3m if they want 6m.

Your view on this Ed?

If Blackburn can command £5.5 million for Grant Hanley it will take probably £3 to land him @ least IMO Villa seem in no rush and know we are desperate to land

Are we close Ed or is it time to move on? (y)

{Ed007's Note - I've not really got a view on it mate, Celtic are negotiating a price, doing what they always do and going in low, and the fans are impatient about signings.

Morning ED, have u heard anything recently regarding future signings? Can't help feeling disappointed so far with how the signings are going. This squad needs some big changes and whilst we've signed dembele and the young Norwegian boy, the Norwegian was coming in back in January anyway. I know signings are not always straight forward but surely we should be way down the line on a few by this time. There's no way this team will get through these qualifiers without getting strengthened. Fully expect a win tonight but the next round is by far a foregone conclusion.

Jerry St Juste will be signing either today or tomorrow.
Third bid for Sinclair been knocked back so our attention will now turn to Bartosz Kapustka.

Will be delighted with these 2 young players.

Hanley going to Newcastle which makes Duffy deal look a goner.

Sorry mally wrong thread. St. Juste is a top young talent.

Hanley moving might just stall a move for Duffy. We're led to believe that it's just up to Duffy now anyway.

Starting to get right royally p***ed off with lack of activity in the transfer department. Every man and their dog can see we need new faces, and shot of a few of the old ones! The team needs reenergised. A poor start to the season will only create a bad energy in the stadium.

R D biggest problem was over his two years at Celtic he seemed to bid and buy that became available . He spent fortunes in small amounts on players and with most of them no benefit to our team .
I hope to God that B R continues to chase his targets and doesn't settle with any Tom, Dick or Harry just to please impatient fans .
