The team I would play against Helsinki

4-1-3-2 Formation

1. Fraser Forster

2. Adam Matthews
67. Victor Wanyama
21. Charlie Mulgrew
3. Emilio Izaguirre

33. Beram Kayal

49. James Forrest
8. Scott Brown
16. Joe Ledley

9. Georgios Samaras
88. Gary Hooper

Reasons

Guys, let's be realistic. Stokes is a more clinical striker than Samaras, but you have to admit that he can be quite unreliable at times. Quite often Tony can stumble over the ball and lose possession. He also does not take enough chances. On the other hand, Samaras turns it on when playing in Europe. His style of play has the potential to turn the Finns inside out. Our Greek Ghod has pace to skip past defenders and his service into Hooper's feet is generally very good. Over the last season I have seen Samaras' game improve. A long time ago under Strachan he used to quite often turn his back on the opposition goal, run back into defence and find a pass. His game is now much more offensive and he is playing the best football of his career.

In defence, I believe Izaguirre has never played for Celtic in Europe. He could be a key player as could Matthews. They both provide pace down the flanks and both have a good delivery on them. As for Wanyama, he is just a tank. Mulgrew will definitely play but I am slightly worried about him as he has the potential to make the odd error.

However, with Kayal sitting in front of the defence, Mulgrew should be fairly comfortable. Kayal ain't afraid to make a challenge and is very composed when on the ball.

The midfield three infront of him are sure to start. Broony is captain and like Kayal is quite a determined player. Ledley is Mr. Reliable and can spread passes around quite easily. He is also a goal threat. James Forrest will be our main man though, running at the Helsinki defence and hoping to provide service for Samaras and Hooper.

What do you think Ed? Hail Hail! {Ed007's Note - With the players we have I don't think you will be far away with that team, Commons might get the nod over Samaras to make the MF a bank of four with Hooper up front himself and Forrest and Commons getting forward to back him up.}

Believable3 Unbelievable0

Big Sammy is a must. He has proved time and again that he can raise his game for the bigger occasions. Partnering Hooper, with back up from James and Scotty, we can score a few. Big Chas will be interesting to watch after the season he had last year, it could go one of two ways. He could build on it and keep his feet on the ground or more worryingly, think he's gods gift to football and revert back to the Charlie that does daft things. With Izzy and Beral fully fit again, I have high hopes for the hoops this year.
Looking forward to the new season! MTH!

I would go with:
Forster
Matthews Rogne Mulgrew Izzy
Wanyama
Brown Kayal Ledley
Commons
Hooper.
Tinker a bit for the second leg with Sammi in for Hooper/Commons depending on their display in the first game. Also gives you the penetration of Forrest as an impact sub. This season our players need to be at it from the first whistle,if they dont do it,use the squad..............green jhedi

Agree0 Disagree0

Sammy is a must away from home, can hold the ball up and give the rest a few valuable seconds to regroup if were under pressure. He proved that in the Euros.

So the transfer ban is moved back to allow Sevco to buy players for this season. Why? Is Regan worried that Sevco won't win the league if they cant sign players? Putting the ban back till the end of september reeks, when will this man be sacked?

Believable7 Unbelievable2

I wouldn't worry to much they have no money and what decent player would want to play in Div 3
Bigbr

Agree5 Disagree1

We can have fun seeing which players turn them down.Who really would want to play in division 3?

Jungle Bhoy.

Agree7 Disagree0

Daz, they can't sign anyone until January 2014 after this though. Who will they sign anyway..Div 3 football hardly attracts the likes of Ortiz etc. Mrs E

Agree5 Disagree1

Mrs E, Dazzabhoy correct what calibre of player will they attract, better still Green now has to shell out some money, which he obviously does not have with no ST sales. Timalloy

Agree1 Disagree1

Tim, maybe that horror Nacho will come back to be adored by his ahem 'fans'. The lower leagues is defo his level...in more ways than one. Mrs E

Agree2 Disagree1

Celtic fans believe Rangers won't attract good players in div3...away and boil yer heids. I'll eat my shoes if proved wrong! Geo the Ger

Agree0 Disagree2

With the SPL brass now saying that they want Rangers share of media rights...I think it's spelling the end of Newco and my interest in Scottish fitba. Rangers were run by crooks. SPL being run by more crooks but hey, let's not let the facts get in the way of a good story. Afterall, it was the fans of these clubs who decided what to do with Newco..not their chairmen
VHSS

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah Tim, i heard they had only sold 500 ST's? Prob due to Bomber shouting about deeds! I dont think they will sign anyone of note. I don't even think they will be able to afford that wee thug Ian Black.

Mrs E i detest that horrible little spanish man, he shouldn't be allowed back into this country, he is nothing but a bigot.

I hope sky do buy Rangers' 25 matches in the SFL and at the same time reduce the SPL money dramatically. Geo the Ger

Rousing speech mate but it sounds like a speech one of our directors would make. The fact is we are crying out for a centre half, an experienced one at that. We find ourselves in a position that if we don't qualify then several players I'd think especially hooper will be wanting away bringing in money, that with what looks like the inevitable sale of ki would bring in a tidy amount which would cover cl losses and we'd still retain the league . Celtic fc for a change should now instead of relying on the fans and our thunder get the cheque book out and really go for it. No excuses, over to you lawell

Believable2 Unbelievable0

I agree to an extent.Lenny pushed for Wilson, who at this time looks short, and maybe thats why Lawwell is reluctant to push the boat out.Remember income will be shorter next season and we have to be prudent.I mean imagine what might happen if we spent like a sailor on shore leave? Look across the city for the lesson. We also have to start using the kids more,we have to see if they can cut it............green jhedi

Agree1 Disagree0

Why would Lawell be reluctant to push the boat out ? . He must have faith in our manager . We never paid anything for Wilson ( thank god ) and I think NL has been excellent with his buying . Surely the fans deserve investment in the team if they are being asked to invest in season books , merchandise , and friendly match tickets . I'm all for blooding young talent but not in vital CL games , they will get their chance throughout the season. I still think there will be signings and hopefully we can progress to the CL stages because I think we have to be there..........DH
