Did anyone see the Forrest pre match interview yesterday he was asked about the speculation round rogic it was the way he answered it suggested to me that rogic is away and Forrest knows it. Just my opinion.

I'm in two minds about getting Duffy.

On one hand he is a nonsense defender which we definitely need, but on the other he can be clumsy and a bit rash (from the limited times I've seen him) which for me is a worry playing for us in SPL where we don't get away with too much.

Can of our Irish supporters or even just folk that have seen a bit more of him shed any more light on whether he'd be a good fit for us?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

20 Aug 2020 18:22:17
Av always liked him and he'd be a realky good signing.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Aug 2020 18:29:50
I think the fact he is Irish is a reason some fans want him a CP I only watch Celtic so I don't know if he is good or bad but what I have noticed is their is a section of our fan base who would sign any player if they were Irish.

I thought Shane Duffy was in Boyzone.

20 Aug 2020 20:00:52
Big Bobo was more than a bit rash but I loved the guy.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Aug 2020 20:29:59
Ive watched him loads and i think he'd do very well for us, i think he'd run through a brick wall in commitment and the fact he will have a ball playing partner would be ideal. Can see him getting a few goals aswell. It would be a great signing and boost for the team. Sometimes one great challenge is all that's needed to spark the team.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Aug 2020 20:50:41
We could do with someone with decent experience and maturity who " gets us" in the steohen McManus mould . this would be a nice blend with Ajer and Jullien

So for me it is about blend

Being irish is a mere bonus . the rashness may he a function of quality in EPL, ie he doesn't mean to be rash or is just that he is up against quicker, trickier players

In SPFL he will be able to kick lumps out of bigger, slower more static strikers ( when the ref is looking the other way and when the linesman isn't mister " red card red card RED CARD "

Agree4 Disagree0

20 Aug 2020 21:16:57
If Celtic are looking for a CB that will give us balance then he has to be left footed.

Agreed.

21 Aug 2020 13:23:05
I am not worried about Duffy been a bit clumsy and a bit rough at times . We don’t have any real top players who would walk straight on to Bayern Munich team .
Instead we are trying to build a team in which every player can support and back each other up. Duffy’s powers in air in both boxes would compliment Julien v well and could be a player available in our price range.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Aug 2020 11:14:15
I don't care if he's from Larkhall he will add a bit of strength to our defence. After watching our game during the week there was wide open spaces on a couple of occasions down the right side in the second half. Our next opponents will be a far harder tie and we can't give them that kind of space as they have 2 fast strikers.

With Stengo here. Griff is a man. He has individual human characteristics. As does Boli. As does Kiearan Tierney, who was apparently subjected to such shameful abuse he is afraid to return to Celtic Park. Why do we have to make them all conform to our toxic and infantile notion of what makes a modern bourgeois football hero and role model? Who made that the only option? Lee is a world class striker playing in a neoliberal age that just can't appreciate him for what he is. Let him go at our peril.

Further to my earlier Post Re: Celtic V Ferencvaros . TheCelticStar. com Posted that : - ' Between those two campaigns of 63/ 64 and 73/ 74, there had almost been a first competitive meeting of Celtic and Ferencvaros, the clubs drawn together in the first round of the 1968/ 69 European Cup. Then Warsaw Pact forces, including soldiers from Hungary, invaded Czechoslovakia on the night of 20 August 1968, Celtic chairman, Bob Kelly, subsequently sending the following telegram to UEFA;
"In view of the illegal and treacherous invasion of Czechoslovakia by Russian, Polish and Hungarian forces, and in support of the Czech nation, we, the Celtic Football Club, do not think that any Western European football club should be forced to fulfil any football commitment in any of these countries. "

Despite UEFA's reluctance to get involved in the delicate political situation, many other western clubs and nations lent their support to Celtic's stance, the governing body eventually forced to come up with a compromise solution which involved a redrawing of the first-round ties only, to ensure that all of the Eastern Bloc countries were paired together, thereby buying some time.

Most of the sides from beyond the Iron Curtain subsequently withdrew, with Celtic matched up against French champions, St Etienne, in the revised draw. ' So we should've played them bacck then, but didn't . . .

I grew up thinking the European cup 1st round was redrawn in 1967/ 68.
With Celtic being the holders and then getting knocked out by Dynamo Kiev.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Aug 2020 16:53:20
'Having disposed of Les Verts on a magical night at Parkhead, the Bhoys then came out of the second-round hat with one of the only two remaining clubs from the Eastern Bloc, Yugoslav champions, Red Star Belgrade. Celtic would beat them before losing to eventual cup-winners, AC Milan, in March 1969, by which time the Parkhead chairman had been knighted. It was a widely-held belief that Kelly’s moral stance on this issue was a major factor in that recognition. '

It’s strange how Inter Milan are playing Seville in a European final in Lisbon.
All 3 European destinations Celtic have played finals in.

68/ 69 we played Red star after their game against Jena was cancelled in previous round. The other two cancellations were Ruch v Dynamo Kiev and Levski v Ferencváros. The only team to go forward was Red star Belgrade. So the chance of meeting them was 5/ 1.

Duffy, Hickey and Turbull, would be my early Christmas present, but I read recently Hickey was bound for Bayern? However I agree with you Mally, that would be an excellent window if we fill those positions with real quality.

They are all realistic targets.
At least a couple of Celtic fans in there also to enjoy the 10 when it comes.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Aug 2020 16:00:20
I'd rather see us go for Victor Neilson of Copenhagen than Shane Duffy. I'd definitely take David Turnbull he would add to the squad. I'm not sure Hickey is even at Taylor's standard at the moment, if we buy him he'd probably get sent right out on loan. I'd take someone like Barry Douglas, not neccessarily him but someone like him, experienced and has excellent dead ball delivery.

Agree2 Disagree0

20 Aug 2020 17:00:26
Hickey for a young boy has spl experience just like the way kt broke through. i think hed compete with Taylor and not go on loan.

Agree3 Disagree0

21 Aug 2020 10:01:25
Seen that the Motherwell chairman expects Turnbull to leave soon. Maybe to us Maybe not. I haven't really seen that much if him tbh so I don't know if he would be a good signing or not.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Aug 2020 13:40:10
I think we have about 2-4m left in the transfer kitty. That's just assuming. I have no idea what we really have.

If we sell Rogic that puts us in a decent financial position to bring in Duffy on loan, with option to buy and also bring Turnbull in.

On top of that can we finance a move for Toney without selling?

Or do we have more cash to spend on transfers than I thought!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

20 Aug 2020 13:46:24
We need a left back too in my opinion in case Taylor gets injured.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Aug 2020 14:06:43
Record st money strips flying off the shelf and a plethora of players have left up till now we've spent round about 9 mill surely this year of all years we can push it.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Aug 2020 14:58:11
Aye I thought the same Mally. Really, after the ten what’s our next goal? To dominate Scottish football? Maybe it’s to push the boundaries and actually try and build a team capable of hitting the Champions League every year.

We have invested in barrow field to help with youth and development teams, while that is renovated we need to build and prepare. I think there is a motive there and you can see we have been poaching around young players from England for a couple years now. Hopefully my thoughts are correct.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Aug 2020 15:02:51
With the position we have of being in Europe every year, record season ticket sales, record strips sales, winning league and cups constantly, decent sales in transfers and frugal buys then I fail to see how the transfers we are linked with (Turnbull, Hickey and Duffy) then if that is the limit of what we can afford then clearly there's something that don't add up.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Aug 2020 15:34:18
The club rightly put off plans for a hotel and museum to make sure money was there for our push to 10 In A Row.
If Sevco went out and spent £30 million on players then at least the money was there to compete and to make sure the gap stayed intact.
I think the plan will be after this season, any money left over will go towards building a hotel and museum.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Aug 2020 12:06:45
Stengo we have the highest wage bill in Scotland and with only paltry sums awarded in Scotland how much money do you think the club makes? Each of the last 4-5 seasons we have sold one of our prize assets to allow us to balance books and bring a few new faces in. We have not done that this year yet so these amounts may be small in footballing terms but are substantial to a club in the situation Celtic find themselves in. Having already spent 9m this yr I can see a player leaving and just pray it isn't Eddie. I think ajer will be the one to go or ntcham but if ajer goes we need 2 CBs.

Hi Ed,
Heard some of Kieran Tierney's interviews yesterday, firstly I would like to thank him for everything he did for Celtic and then I'd like apologise to him for the abuse he received when he left for Arsenal, he and his family did not deserve any of that, I don't know him personally but he's a great lad and a true Celt, he has to do the best for himself and Celtic did well out of the deal, I wish him all the best and have no doubt he will return to Celtic one day.
Thanks KT and Hail Hail🍀🍀.

Hi Ed, reading last night that
Bayern v PSG will be the first UCL Final contested between two league champions since 1998! Unbelievable stat and shows up the cabal of UEFA to bow to TV and the alleged big leagues by giving 3 places to non league winners when league winners from participating UEFA countries have to knock each other out during qualifying rounds.

An analyst has looked at our last 20 league games on plastic pitches compared to grass pitches.
These guys have a formula they follow and they give a score after every game.
17 out of the 20 games on plastic pitches have resulted in a below average score.
It also states Celtic have played with two forwards in only 3 out of those 20 games.
And unsurprisingly when we have played with two forwards on the plastic pitches, Celtic have had an above average score in 2 out of those 3 times.
In summary Celtic have only had an above average score once in 20 games on a plastic pitch when we've played with only one forward player.
And on the 3 occasions we've played with two forwards Celtic have had an above average score on two of those occasions.

20 Aug 2020 12:15:20
They dropped 2 points on 'plastic' on Sunday and previously there as well. Plus a few at Kilmarnock; but it's only us that get the negative hype and have a phobia apparently?

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Aug 2020 12:18:24
To be fair they should be banned in our top league hell killies grass park used to be one of the best now they've got plastic and have brought the lines in and don't water it when we play them. and am aware they don't need to but maybe that's why the paying customer watches junk down there.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Aug 2020 13:30:12
I don't understand why that's the case as they have a state of the art plastic pitch at Lennoxtown.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Aug 2020 15:26:41
Plastic pitches should never be allowed in the SPFL I can't understand why they allowed them in the first place. Finance is the reason I get that but surely these clubs can afford to have a grass pitch? Do what another club does and lay grass seeds at the end of a season.

Read an Article today from a journalist that's usually on the money with Celtic information. Celtic plc won't even discuss a price for Eddie until 10 in a row is decided. Also hinted if Rogic sale happens money will help the Duffy deal.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

20 Aug 2020 09:21:56
Noticed on a 'Celtic News' site last night we were back in for Turnbull and - wait for it - making approaches for McKenna from Aberdeen?
Obviously we have been patiently waiting for news of Duffy and a left-back and I suppose with Rogic away -Turnbull was always going to come up again. Hopefully we can conclude what has been a very good window (both in and out) if we can do business soon with those positions addressed?
That could cover all permutations for a very demanding and busy schedule.
