Ed what is the story about Alexsandar Tonev
supposed to be injured but for what and for how long?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I was told his injury would keep him out for at least both Maribor and any league matches around them obviously.}

Thanks for that Ed

So much for gordon not bein mentally or physically good enough anymore eh

Believable0 Unbelievable0

A handful of games is not enough evidence to suggest he is physically sound after serious injury and lack of game time he has had over past few seasons.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gordon has taken a lot of stick on here since we signed him, fair enough we all thought he might not be the 9m keeper he used to be, however I think tonight he proved he is slowly getting back to the top keeper he once was. The only thing that springs to mind is that this time next year we will most probably punt him to the highest bidder. That save he made near the end of the game was top drawer.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ian, the main concern with Gordon is his injury record and fact that not so long ago when he was coaching at Dumbarton he is quoted as saying he was considering retirement due to his previous injuries. I geniunely hope he does do well, but I am concerned whether he will last the season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Do you think Gordon will demand a move?

I do like Gordon as a person and as a player he used to be outstanding. I'm a bit raging we haven't bought another keeper, but I'm going to give him a chance. The guy obviously just want a to play football.

Agree0 Disagree0

If he stays fit I think its a cracking signing but only time will tell! he will grow in confidence game by game but he has been good so far.

Agree0 Disagree0

The deal suits the board, it's got PL all over it. I think if a fully fit Craig Gordon is a better goal keeper than FF.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gordon will not demand a move away from celtic even if he delivers…he is 31…was written off and will not be looking to use celtic as a springboard. now way.

Ian you are miles away on that one …not every players wants a move….

gordon would BITE YOUR HAND OFF for 5 good seasons at celtic park with decent champions league exposure at celtic park

Agree0 Disagree0

The deal suits the board and the deal suits the manager and the fans if Gordan stays fit. I don't mind if we pay nothing on transfer fees, if they bring the players in that do a good job for us .

Decent performance, I'd have took 1 1 before game but we are better than them and it's a little Disapointing we didn't win game. Confident we'll see them off next week though.
Only complaint is the worry Emilio gives us. Consistently he is proving a liability in my opinion . Again good going forward but he can't mark, can't cover and in my opinion is our real weak link. I know we need a striker but a left back must be high on the agenda too.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think RD has moved him up one, we seemed to have a back three most of the night.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree he did after his substitutions , but either way higher or not up the pitch he still needs to be able to defend. Something he seems to struggle to do, especially with a ball switched from the right

Agree0 Disagree0

I totally agree bobby izzy is a shadow of the guy from his first season and I don't like the idea of putting lustig at left back to move izzy and bring on efe at right back. We've been lucky to still be in the comp and even luckier to draw one of the lowest ranked teams left in the comp. I've no doubt we will win comfortably in return leg but we still need big players added throughout the team to be competitive in group stages.

Hi ED

quick précis of tonight's performance

gordon 6 (bizarre punches, indifferent licking but some decent saves; not sure he was as calming an influence as I would have iiked)

izzy (4) poor in possession and quite amateurish with his tackling; a poor game tonight

daymeur (5) looked okay coming forward and stepping out with the ball but for me he was very weak in his tackling and looked his age ( I know he is only 19!)

VVD (6 1/2) poor first half I thought but a little more proactive with his defending 2nd half and decent in the air; again good coming pout of defence.some panicky moments and I am now of the firm belief that.HE IS NOT AT GOOD AS THE MEDIA THINKS AND ANOTHER SEASON IN OUR AVERAGE LEAGUE may give him a little more time to develop

Lustig (7) thought he had an all round fairly decent game with few mistakes; you always know where to look for him on the park.never AWOL

Mulgrew (6) distinctly average; some decent balls out of defence but just cannot impose himself on opposition players through decent tackling and/or good positioning; unlucky with his early header at back post

McGregor (7 1/2) for a youngster, very composed on the ball and some good deliveries .worked his socks off

berget (6) decent first half but faded quickly in the 2nd .fitness appeared suspect

kayal (7 1/2) played his role well tonight with some short sharp passing but for me can be tougher in the tackle.also, for some obscure reason he really does not enjoy venturing forward even when he has yards and yards and yards of space ahead of him.drops his shoulder and goes back a little too much

johanssen (7 1/2) beyond heading the ball (which johanssen fails to do) he had a good game in support of attack and in a "protectorate" role.fitness improving and definitely a starting eleven slot going forward

stokes (7) worked his socks off 2nd half and was actually quite impressed with his work rate.a fresh griffiths couldn't hold a candle to stokes which is saying something

shape / tactics 7/10

substitutions and timing 7/10

can we beat this team next week. at a (hopefully) packed out celtic park .yes .with a couple of goals to spare

next week prediction celtic 3 maribor 1

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Lustig getting a 7 is laughable since he was primarily culpable for their goal

Agree0 Disagree0

What game were you watching?

Agree0 Disagree0

Why do u always feel the need to score the players out of 10. your not bill leckie are you?

Agree0 Disagree0

(3) who cares what I score them out, I can type what I like and ED will allow it or not …you don't need to read it…
also Lustig…yeah he was ball watching…but go a few steps back…

VVD gave up too much space for the pass in the first place between himself and the young cohort…and also the young cohort got caught on wrong side of the ball…

2 big errors before the ball fell to the player running across the ball watching lustig….

but take a look at where the goal was scored….near penalty spot…up to 2 defenders and 3 protective midfielders to stop that from happening

the comment about lustig is amateurish…it is like blaming a goalie for goal against …you should always go back the way to appreciate where the key errors where made NOT who was last in the vicinity before a goal is scored

Can understand the over-cautious line up after the Legia games and the importance of the tie, but even with all those defenders, we lost a very soft goal.

Great start again by young McGregor though and this young talent is leading by example.
We should have had a few more goals and a couple of penalty decisions (was the ref Polish?) could have made this game safe.
1-1 is not a bad result, but we showed them too much respect - even in the substitutions - when it was clear we were the better team and they were there for the taking and we should have won it.
However, there is still a lot of work to do as a dodgy decision or a mistake and we have it all to do.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm sure delia was tempted to put a more attacking side on the park, more so as the game went on, but we got the result we deserved. My only concern was the set up at the back. On Saturday Virgil and denyvar looked good together but tonight mulgrew got in the way. He was playing like the centre half instead of covering just in front. Mcgregor looks a great player and kayak was superb again. 3/4-0 at CP next week.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think overall, we were the better team. Apart from a spell just before and after the break, we contained them well and created good chances. Bit disappointed with Izzy tonight as he just wasn't in the game. As for Ambrose, why couldn't we just have left him in Glasgow? Total bombscare at the back and you wouldn't think the two of them had just played in a world cup FFS! Craig Gordon had a bit of a wobbly early on but is gradually starting to look like a keeper and is very similar to Big Fra in goal.
Saying that, good result bhoys, and should be a good crowd next week. MTH!

Our defence is an absolute sham if we are to progress we will be found out by some of the big teams with top quality strikers!

You don't say Tam I thought we'd be able to comfortably hold Real, Bayern and co with their multi million pound squads

Agree0 Disagree0

Tam stop talkin pi$h, tey played alrite and s did the Team. Gordon has another 90 mins of football an Champ Lge football at that. Denny nd Virgil have another game under their belt and Big Lustig and Izzy worked their socks off. A big cheer for Kyal, thought he was outstaning for us. Great result Hail Hail

Hardly a sham. One lapse in concentration doesn't brand the whole defence a sham.

That was a big Improvement on leiga, shame we couldn't nick the winner. We must have a good chance in the second leg providing we don't get too casual at Celtic park

Agree0 Disagree0

As long as mulgrew is around we will concede goals against quality sides.killy.

Agree0 Disagree0

I disagree. I think denayer and van dijk link up well. Its a major improvement to any defence with efe ambrose near it!

Hopefully we get denayer on loan for another season, looks a class act.

Personally I think once Tonev is fit and if we sign wakuso and a striker, I can honestly say i'm confident we will get a good run in europe.

Ambrose was part of a record breaking defence last season! The guy needs a holiday, he has been playing football non stop for 2 years. He needs benched or given time off! He is and will continue to be an intricate part of our team and the stick he gets is a bit over the top, but Celtic fans are fickle and have memory spans comparable to goldfish.

Agree0 Disagree0

Darren, it must be you with the memory like a goldfish, he may have been part of the defence that created a record but look back at the games and you will find at least 20 occasions where he almost caused us a goal only for Forster, VVD or a n other to bail him out.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

20 Aug 2014 14:26:20
so if its true we are trying to sign this korean i'd be thinking that commons is ofski! a lot of new attacking players is nice to see but its a lot of wingers.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agreed sos bhoy we have signed THREE players who prefer/seem to play left of the three/left wing it is a strange one atvb jb7

Agree0 Disagree0

Another Ki.

Agree0 Disagree0

Supposedly he's not wanting to join us and stay at cardiff even though he's down the pecking order for the team. jus shows hw bad the league is were playing in!. is this atlantic league gna happen ed or is this ah non starter?

Ed just read an article with rd talking about Derk boerigter receiving a ban and he brought a very good point up, if a player dives during a game and referee spots it it's a yellow card offence so why when it's not spotted by ref and noticed afterwards can the powers that be possibly give a ban and a 2 match ban at that, it just doesn't add up, now if a player hand balls it on the line preventing a goal or hand balls it to gain an advantage ( which is a automatic yellow card ) why does this not fall by the same rules! Does it not open up a can of worms?
