I believe every player in the squad will be available for transfer this summer. Turnbull may well be the one exception. I certainly hope so. He is only player I would not want to leave.

Why everyone?

No commitment!
No passion!
No effort!
Not good enough!
Not improved in last 3 years!

Do we have a player in the entire squad that does NOT fall into any of those 5 categories?

Starting at the top. Broony is gone.
Jamesy, Cal-mac- Amazing servants but have not improved and a real chance of going stale. We need a freshness on the right wing. Not hoping JF will deliver if fit. Harsh but we need to move on.

Next. Ajer, Eddie, julien, Christie- good players who have done us a turn but they are not committed any more.

Then its- the goalies, the full backs, rogic, ntcham, soro, the loan players, ajeti, Griff, Bitton- all of them fall into the 5 categories and don't really deserve to be in our squad anymore.

Maybe harsh on Soro, but jury is still out big time and he's a million miles from replacing Brown.

Welsh? Undecided!

Does anyone disagree?

Good post mate.

I agree with most of it except Ajer and Soro.

It may well be true Ajer's head was turned by talk of Milan etc but I still feel he is one of a few players who gives his all every game.

Soro I'd definitely give him a chance next season but not alongside McGregor and Turnbull. That 3 doesn't work for me and lacks physicality. McGregor or Soro would need to go. I doubt Soro would want to remain a squad player.

I'd prefer Welsh and Hazard to go out on loan next season and play weeknin week out. To have any chance in Europe we need an experienced goalie and 2 experienced centre halfs.

I'm hoping to see Scott Robertson next season. Hope he gets a chance to impress preseason. I think he could be a great player in the future.

21 Apr 2021 00:30:42
I'd say the safe ones in the squad are Forrest, Welsh, Turnbull, Soro and McGregor the rest are all likely to be moved on or should be. If Howe comes in and gets in his own captain maybe McGregor will want to move on after being groomed for the captaincy for most this season. If Jullien wasn't injured he'd likely have moved on also.

McGregor has been an absolute shambles this year.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Apr 2021 08:02:44
I honestly can’t believe the stick Callum McGregor is getting, this guy has been playing non stop for about three seasons he needs a complete break for a month. I also believe that those around him who have downed tools have brought him down to their level, Callum is a very good player and been a great servant to the club, give the guy a break he can’t do it all on his own.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Apr 2021 08:03:22
Only player i give pass marks this season is Ajer. Can debate all day if he's good enough but he never chucked it. McGregor needs a good rest and hopefully a new manager can rejuvenate him, no one can say he's a bad player. Had a poor season but a quality wee player.
Soro?
Forrest is no good if he's always on a stretcher?
Welsh to me is a squad player.

The rest can GTF been absolute embarrassing the effort they put in this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Apr 2021 09:46:24
I hope we get a physical commanding centre mid. Scott Mctominay would have been perfect. Could it be Ajer?

Also why does everyone say calmac needs a rest. Did he continue playing when every league in Europe closed down for 5 or 6 months last year?

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Apr 2021 13:30:33
I missed Taylor off that list too. As much as I'd like us to go all out to get in Moi I can't see it happening. Forrest was fine under Rodgers fitness wise I think all the squad look like they've lost half a yard under this seasons regime.

Evening troops. Noticed Mourinho being mentioned on a couple of occasions, which I find ludicrous. He’s a dinosaur, I’d rather we we went for Xavi if Celtic would even consider spending so frivolously.

We need a coach with new ideas, new training methods that will get these players fitter, more confident and HUNGRY. I’ve seen players play badly this season, French Eddie’s looked amateur for instance - that’s all to do with poor training methods, poor coaching, lack of fitness. and a stinking bad attitude anaw!

Favre’s looking for £75k a week - he’s onto plums.

Keane - not a good idea, although he has the right stature in principle.

Maresca - with Harkin, it could work but it’s a big gamble.

Howe - I reckon he’s got the gig already, why go to Palace or Newcastle and I reckon he would have ruled himself out by now. Could be wrong of course and not fussed if I am, I’m not overly convinced but I suppose he has qualities.

Either way, whoever it may be, they have one mammoth motherf*cker of a job on their hands to turn this around. exciting project though! 😘.

{Ed007's Note - Hey stranger, how's things Miko?}

Hey Ed, all good thanks, how’s it going? I’ve been checking in every now and again, some good chat on here. How’s the bhoy Tim? Welshy, the mismanagement has been astounding. It all started to go wrong when Moussa left and we’ve been in decline ever since - we don’t even have the spine of a team to build on, all the new manager has is Turnbull, Calmac, Jullien (don’t laugh) , Forrest, Welsh and Soro. What a mess, we have too many players who think they’re better than they are!

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I'm good mate thanks 👍

21 Apr 2021 00:33:19
Even if we could get Mourinho for £2m a year I wouldn't even want him I'd much rather Maresca over him and he's an unknown.

Im not defending the board but i can understand to a point how we ended up here.

As 10 in a row was so important to the fans, the board were stuck between a rock and a hard place.

If they had started the rebuild last summer by selling the players who wanted to leave, the fans would have went mental. Just imagine the reactiion if we sold Edouard, McGregor, Ajer and Christie.

Obviously in hindsight, we can see that they made the wrong decision to keep them and this has put us in a worse position for next season.

All that being said the board should have planned this better and been more astute with recruitment and we would not have been in this mess.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Apr 2021 12:00:43
The board’s completely at fault. They didn’t see the rangers coming and dithered. This all started when we didn’t sell Ntcham to Porto.

where are you putting your fiver? Ped71 we know you have a man to do these menial tasks but . what's everyones thinking

next Celtic Manager:
Eddie Howe - 4/ 9
Lucien Favre - 9/ 4
Roy Keane - 7/ 1
Enzo Maresca - 9/ 1
Frank Lampard - 12/ 1
Carlos Queiroz - 12/ 1
John Kennedy - 12/ 1.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

20 Apr 2021 19:02:52
The value is still Keane @ 7/ 1.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Apr 2021 19:24:28
I mentioned Maresca and Harkin ages a go with a May announcement i will stay with that.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Apr 2021 19:28:12
As per the posts below about our inability to afford a top manager and even bankroll his ambitions in this current financial climate; I would say that shortens the list to Keane, Maresca and Big Nose. Howe's reported agreement in principal seems to have a condition on the DOF if reports are to be believed? That would make him doubtful.

Agree2 Disagree0

20 Apr 2021 19:32:07
Roy Keane. Desperate to get the job and i think Howe won’t manage to live in Glasgow and can’t see his family moving up. Suit him better to manage in London and travel easier from his home.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Apr 2021 19:33:48
The value is with Keane but I still think Howe will be announced at the end of the season.
It’s looking like the reports that Bournemouth are paying his wages until the end of the season are correct.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Apr 2021 19:48:09
Aye, very good toro 👍 there's an abundance of world class managerial talent on that list 😄.

Seriously though, when I weigh it up and think about our board's 'priorities' which will likely be;-

* appointing a D. O. F. first
* money, money and money
* very little time to plan for next season

Therefore I'm with Rich T, Harkin and Meresca.

I still have a feeling that it's Keane but if we are getting Harkin as DOF I honestly think we will bring in Maresca.
Man City U23's final game is on the 7th May, if we are going down the Harkin - Maresca I would expect an announcement just after that.

20 Apr 2021 17:52:39
Ed and fellow Celts, would you play Scot Brown against Aberdeen tomorrow night?
Personally I wouldn't, let's get Soro in now and start our forward planing for next season.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I wouldn't have Brown, Laxalt, Edouard, McGregor or Christie near the team again. You can throw in guys like Rogic, Griffiths & Bitton as well.}

I'd play Brown but agree with ed on the rest.

Until the end of the season I'd go with:

Barkas

Taylor
Kenny
Ajer
Welsh

Soro
Brown
Turnbull
Moi

Ajeti
Griffiths.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Apr 2021 19:02:38
Spot on Ed get those in who want to be here. All dead rubber games from now on time to blend the youth and fringe and see who can cut it. Deprive those who have down tooled of any goal win performance bonuses.

{Ed007's Note - 👍

20 Apr 2021 19:09:35
Agree with most of those comments and along with Brown I’d bin Laxalt, JJK, Ajer, Moi, Eddy, that's leaves only Bain, Welsh, Turnbull and Forrest, disagree about McGregor I feel he is burnt out and has carried the team, but if he wants to go bin him too, I only want committed players so bin the wantaway *****s and play the youth players.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Apr 2021 19:10:15
Mcgregor looks knackered and burnt out. laxalt shouldn't play again eddy can sit out as well throw the young lb in.

Ajer
Welsh
Taylor

Soro
Mc Gregor

Christie
Turnbull
Johnston

Ajeti.

20 Apr 2021 19:50:37
Get some of the kids in, they'll never have a better chance to get minutes at this level with no pressure.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Apr 2021 20:21:26
Agree with u mally that mcgregor is wrecked. He has played non stop and seriously needs a break.

For me any player who doesn't want to be here next year should not be playing for the rest of the season. We are going to finish second regardless of results for the rest of the season so the guys who want to be here should play the remaining games.

Guys like eddy, Christie and any other player with there attitude can stay away from the side.

Our loan system needs to seriously be looked at as the ones we got in have been brutal in most cases. No wonder Milan are trying to offload laxalt the guy is so bad. The same for Kenny. He might be ok against poor sides in the spfl but in both games against them he looked like a scared kid! We have sold 2 fullbacks in the last 2 to 3 seasons for 36 million and have these 2 loan players playing in their place.

To those players who think they are too good for celtic then please leave ASAP. Celtic is always bigger than any player.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Apr 2021 22:52:06
The only players I would play that started Sevco game would be Welsh and Turnbull.
I would play the kids for the rest of the season but with Kennedy being the Lemmon mk2 I would expect the same team to start.

Buzz who said "Football without fans is nonthing"? I thought it was Stein but sky have Sir Matt Busby.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

20 Apr 2021 17:50:27

Busby said it slightly different “ football is nothing without fans”
I doesn’t surprise me that Sly have went with the Man Utd version.

20 Apr 2021 18:05:46
I'm sure Jock Stein said "Without fans who pay at the turnstile, football is nothing. " but is often quoted as Without fans football is nothing.

I did a search for Busby saying this and could not find evidence of him saying it but it was not an extensive search, so it is possible he said it as well.

I have also heard Shankly say something similar and they were all friends.

Both must have said it at some point but I don’t know who said it first.
We’ve seen the video of jock saying “football without fans is nothing”
And at some point Busby must have said “football is nothing without fans”
We all know Sly wouldn’t highlight it, if Jock Stein was the only person to have said it.

i think we all know it was going to be obv when Mourinho was sacked he would start to be linked with celtic job who would take him who would not.

its a tough one for me as he seems to have lost dressing room at last 3 clubs but Mourinho is a massive brand some clubs it just does not work out.

what's your thoughts ed007.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - It's never going to happen, Mourinho hated Manchester before he got that job and he HATED living there - he should never have been offered the job - so there's no way he will come to Glasgow and that's before we even look at the financial side of his circa £15 million minimum a year salary.}

20 Apr 2021 12:13:12
if he was interested in coming ed007 would you be happy with him.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - He's not exactly renowned for his free flowing attacking football and he likes his teams to be fluent in *ahem* "football's dark arts" plus he has a habit of falling out with people so it would be a no from me.
It would certainly be a box-office appointment but I'd be surprised if he lasted for two years and the last 6 months or so would be chaotic.}

20 Apr 2021 12:25:48
that's were im with it to mate he is box office but will it work out due to what you mentioned above. spurs and man u fans hated watching his football.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - He's not the coach/manager he used to be but there'll still be no shortage of clubs that will pay him what he wants. I'd rather go with. Their age is immaterial but I would rather go with someone with modern ideas about setting-up & organising a team AND who plays a style of football that is attractive to watch.
It's like Eddie Howe, his job was to keep Bournemouth in the PL and with their resources it was always going to be a defensive style they played, with Celtic's resources etc would he adapt his style for a team that dominates 99% of their domestic games? Mourinho has been at some massive clubs with great players but his tactics etc hasn't changed or improved to keep up with the modern game.}

20 Apr 2021 12:54:38
agree mate Mourinho's just set in his own ways. why ye think they binned him on week of cup final ye think the dressing room unrest was just to bad.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - It was a combination of a few things mate, poor results - notably the EL loss to Dinamo Zagreb - players were unimpressed with his training sessions and his obsession with stopping the opposition playing rather than outplaying/attacking them, plus Jose's new(ish) assistant, Joao Sacramento had become a a very divisive figure in the dressing room. Senior club officials were also unhappy the way Mourinho regularly threw his players under the bus.}

20 Apr 2021 13:21:58
Is it just me? or are some Celtic fans as deluded as the sevvies, Mourinho? £15m Benitez? £10m+ I heard our Board baulked at Le Favre asking for £4-£5m so come on guys get REALISTIC.
Celtic paid Rodgers around what Le Favre was asking but Dermot Desmond I heard chipped in part of salary, IF Howe is coming as an ex EPL manager he will be asking circa £3m+ AND a BIG TRANSFER BUDGET, are our Board willing to pay that kind of money or will it be another cheap option like yes man Kennedy.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Apr 2021 14:31:11

love the irony of the pub league fans how this super league is unfair and greed football is ruined.

didn't see them complain when there teams were finishing 3rd and 4 th in there league and still getting passes into the champions league wile giant clubs from other leagues had to go through all sorts of qualifiers some times not making it in and getting that much needed champions league money and the right they earned by winning there league to be in it automatically. wile picking our top talent of for pennies because of the wages they could pay due to the big tv deals.

now football is finished they say because some of there clubs have joined it. football as your club knows it is gone. i hope we stay well clear our league was left behind by being handed scraps from the big tv company's. we should use this to help our league become stronger but don't sell out.

should i had sympathy for them why should i they slate our league and laughed at us because of all the money they had and our league was irrelevant.

UEFA created the monster and now the monsters think they’ve outgrown their creator.
I would’ve thought that UEFA with the help of FIFA had the power to cap wages years ago and prevent clubs from slipping into hundreds of millions of debt.
They brought out FFP but obviously the FFP rules and regulations aren’t tight enough.
We only need to see what Sevco are being allowed to do every season and the SFA and UEFA turn a blind eye.
In 1999 before the Ebt scandal, Rangers paid the 3rd highest wage bill in Britain, which they obviously couldn’t sustain.
Only Liverpool and Chelsea paid their players bigger salaries than the old club.
But within 20 years these English clubs are on a different playing field and the Scottish league has been left behind.
UEFA have reconstructed the CL to suit the bigger leagues and made it harder for clubs like Celtic.
I’m glad they’re all fighting and it will be interesting to see what happens next.

I was amazed to find out Celtic actually played another 60 games after beating Rangers 5-2 in 1888,all in the space of a year.
The Scottish league didn't start until 1890 so,
Celtic played in 40 friendlies and 21 cup games.
Celtic got beat in the final of our first attempt at the Scottish Cup.
We also played in 4 other minor cups.
Celtic won 45 games, Drawn 4 and lost 12 matches in our first year.
Interestingly the English league started in 1888 and the Champions Preston North End won the league easily and finished unbeaten.
Celtic played the English Champions in our 61st game in May 1889 and gave Preston their first defeat by beating them 2-1.
