The late, great Tommy Burns had Celtic playing some attractive football. Fans still reminisce over that era and they didn't even win anything, other than a Scottish Cup!

On the flip side, there was the Argentina side that got to the final of Italia 90 playing some of the worst football ever seen at any of the finals. So, you see Shermanator, bad, unattractive football lives long in the memory, just as does silky, flowing, attractive football.

Your team will always be remembered for playing some of the most jaw-droppingly, boring, ugly, unpleasant, unattractive dross ever witnessed in the game.

Never mind, there's the possibility that your team can start all over again with a clean slate! Lol Oops!

............. JUST IN................

The BBC are to make a follow up to the children's classic Jackanory (for the younger viewers on here this was a programme in which a person came on and told Fairy Tales)
The BBC Governors have voted unanimously for a
Mr Craig Whyte to take over this role.

As told to Timalloy

Jackanory was about fairytales not Bu**sh*t.

Ed you heard anything about the sfa investegating craig whyte? {Ed007's Note - They are seeking clarification:

goo.gl/tGIcU (I have shortened the link address).

Believable0 Unbelievable4

Wellspread story now mate.apparently in the eyes of the sfa,hes not deemed fit to be running a football club.basically, nothing we didnt already know.

Agree0 Disagree3

Ha ha just heard about Whyte's latest little "embarrassment" at least his team of solicitors will be "battle hardened" by all the court cases they are involved in.
Timalloy

Agree0 Disagree3

Well well well , Craig Whyte caught telling "Porkys" again , threatening to take the BBC to court for "Telling Lies" about him , when they had rumbled him , off course all the "Sheep" believed him as usual (TonyTheGer , Germinator , King Bear etc) you'll never learn lads , aye and he's giving Ally a £5m transfer war chest in January he he he , course he is .

..... if any poster can tell me a single team that has won any comp in football thro how attractive they play then over how many wins/points they accumulated I will acknowledge im wrong .... funnily enough i feel quite safe about not losing this one .......... just one football team in any senior competition ..... 1 surely with the people arguin with me u can do that .... cmon

Germinator

Believable4 Unbelievable3

Barcelona? Spain world cup, they both play amazing passing games

Steve

Agree3 Disagree4

Oh Steve Steve Steve read the original post again mate! The point he is making is that points are awarded on wins and draws, not style of play. It's not dancing with the stars!!
GCUK {Ed007's Note - Isn't it their attractive style of play that wins them matches? I listed teams on another thread that played attractive and entertaining football and still enjoyed success. Their style of play is what made them successful.}

Agree2 Disagree1

Zenit st petersburgh

Agree0 Disagree2

I don't pay £550 a year for Celtic to scrap 1-0 wins every week, I like entertaining football.
Steve

Champions League:

Real Madrid 58-60
Benfica 60-62
Celtic 1967
Man Utd 1968
Ajax 71-73
Bayern 74-76
Milan 89-90
Ajax 95
Real 00 & 02
Barca 09 & 11

....amongst others, not even starting on the World Cup winners.

You're a joke trying to justify your teams negative football philosophy (Wattie's Legacy!)....now jog on Percy! lol

Miko

Agree0 Disagree4

Germinator...I don't really understand your post ? Are you directly asking do you get points for eg. losing a game but playing attractive football ?

Why would you ask such a question ? - Mrs E

Agree2 Disagree2

Off course you don't ya plank , but watching Rangers anti-football is not enjoyable either , football is an entertainment , the "Watenaccio" formation favoured by Mr Smith and now Mr McCoist in European games and at Celtic Park is anything but entertaining , all of Europe rejoiced when Celtic overcame Helenio Herrera's "Catenaccio" anti-football in 1967 , but if you like watching pi5h , good for you pal .

Stupid argument. Did Chelsea play the best football when they were winning under the chosen one. What about Arsenal under Graham. Winning does not make you the best footballing team.
...................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
Pi5h son, Celtic have played the better football since Lenny took over, you may have won the league but only by playing boring football.

DazzaBhoy

Re:
Not the brightest are we guys lol ... ed u must have cringed reading this .... I mean how is the team that wins the not the best ?!

so let me get this right the team that wins the most games wins the league ISNT the best ? in your arguement it is the team that have won the title the last 3 years have not been the best ?! id love to hear how you explain that.....
Sure celtic might have played a more attractive form of football but results have shown that it was not the most effective therefore not the best.......

Defending and not conceding is in every way just as important as attacking and scoring. take the old firm out the equation and cast ur mind back to wen John Hughes was in charge of Falkirk, now just about every pundit and ex prof commented on them playing the most attractive football in the league, best to watch goin forward lots of tidy passes good movement off the ball ... remind us how they did awww yeah relegation dog fights most years til they got relegated but sure outwith the old firm according to your logic they were the best team ! LMAO man u really have made fhools of yirselves there ladies....

Germinator

Believable1 Unbelievable0

So italy were the best footballing side to watch when they won the world cup ? wimbeldon with the fa cup ?arsenal winning the league under george graham ?(remember the chants , one nil to the arsenal and boring boring arsenal ) so no the best team to watch does not necessarily win the league , fab1

Agree2 Disagree0

Na not the best to watch but the bestteam to watch but the best teams at the game obv hence they won !?

Germinator

Agree1 Disagree1

........ let me put it this way ....... What is the objective of football? is it to win the match or to look the best ? i know u'd think its a simple question but somehow some of u lot are struggling to answer it

Agree0 Disagree0

Or is it to entertain, fab1

Agree0 Disagree0

Mean how is the team that wins the not the best ?!

you must have cringed when your read that.

If Real win the spanish league does that make them play more attractive football then Barc. I agree that being pretty is not the be all and end all. (See my origional comment) even Ally and Walter talk about winning ugly.

Sorry you can't see it. But in the one game I've seen Ranger this season they were not very pretty at all.

David

Agree0 Disagree0

Name one team .... a single team in any league over the entire history of the game that won a league or competition by how attractive their football was (this isnt strictly come play football) how many teams have won a comp or league by winning more games accumulating more points regardless how "ugly" their football.......

go on name ONE team any team ............. ahhhh case closed !

Germinator {Ed007's Note - Real Madrid 50/60s, Celtic in the 60's, Ajax in the 70s Liverpool in the 80's Man Utd In the 90/00s the current Barcelona team and most of the Brazilian teams that have won World Cups I'll start with. They all played attractive free flowing football and enjoyed success.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Spot on ed, points make prizes as brucie says - but yeah all teams you listed did play football the way it was ment to be played, with that little something different/special pleasing

davybhoy ktf {Ed007's Note - If you can win, and win with style while entertaining not only your own fans, but fans across the globe, you will go down in history. Look at the last two Euros? Greece or Spain, I know who I would rather pay to watch and I know what team will be spoke about for the right reasons in years to come.}

ED007 heard that Hooviveld has signed for Southampton for an undisclosed fee. Hope we got at least what he cost us £1.4m, but still think it is a stange one he is obviously playing better than the two last night so why not give him a chance. Looks like Lenny has taken a big dislike to the guy. Timalloy

Believable0 Unbelievable2

Sometimes it just doesn't work out for certain players at certain clubs. I only saw Hoovield a handful of times and I feel that the 2 playing lat night were better than what I seen of him. The one game that stands out in my mind was the away defeat to Utrecht, he was shocking

Just my opinion but good luck to him now

Was at last night's game. Disappointing overall. Atletico didn't look special but we couldn't take advantage. Big Dan, Loovens and Forster continue to baffle me.......they must have some great secret scandal and gossip about Lenny that allows them to play at all. Each time they had the ball my heart was in my mouth.....and that's even when there were no Atletico players near them. So much for the Celtic renaissance of recent weeks...that was a poor performance in my opinion.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

I thought it was not too bad against a team who spent in excess of £40million in the summer & who looked like getting the better of Real Madrid at the weekend until they had 2 players sent off - Mrs E

Agree1 Disagree0

I honestly dont know what some fans expect. If the players play to their potential and as we all know the weaknesses of our less good players then why would we expect them to lose these weaknesses against a higher calibre opposition. We did OK last night and were a bit unfortunate. As fans for sure we need to be optimistic but we also need to be realistic also after all one of their players could just about pay for our entire squad! A decent CB goalie and a big CF who can head the ball and we are as good as anyone on our own patch...but we need these as solid tried and tested pros.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mrs E I was at game and never at any time did I think we would win, draw on the night was best we could have hope for. Their goalie only really made a couple of decent saves, we should have put more pressure on them especially at home hail hail Timalloy

Agree1 Disagree1

Samaras was our best player last night...in my opinion. When he's on form and can be bothered to try then I can see why he gets a place in the starting 11. Hopefully we'll see a big improvement with Broonie back and Izzy and big Kelvin close to a return.

Afternoon ED007 was at game last night and was not impressed by Forster as other fans say, he is 6ft 5in and should be dominating his penalty box. Loovens I'm sorry but he and Mastolevic are just not Celtic class. Good to see Mulgrew back and heard Izzy and K Wilson back in full training, we need these guys back NOW.
Also heard that Whyte has now admitted he WAS banned from being a director. Is it just me or is it going to be fun and games, if as Whyte promised, he sues BBC. He will be only guy in history to sue for BBC telling the TRUTH ha ha Timalloy

Its all about the football , club captain ducks signing a new contract, stand in captain ducks to allow a goal, manager ducks press and tells them that his players were magnificent in defeat. Broony open your mouth now and tell the fans your intentions , Kayal SHUT your mouth and 2 games against St Mirren & Dunfermline don't make you a good player , NL again what game was he watching .

Kayal`s cowardly dive and duck to avoid a ball that would have hit him on the knee, will surely make it into the hall of shame .Was ridiculed on Spanish TV for the entire 15min half time break and rightly so.So much for being "BETTER" if you dont have the will to win or the BOTTLE to succeed it wont do us any good in the Title. TRUTH HURTS SO BE SURPRISED IF THIS GETS POSTED

I know I might be in the minority, but I actually think we will win and go through in Italy. This is a different situation to other away games we have faced in that we have to attack and we have to win. I think that's going to be in our favour, I also think athletico are a better side than udinese and we matched or bettered them for much of the game. All runs have to come to an end sometimes, even bad ones, and I believe our away day woes will end and we will have a momentous night! Keep the faith. Markiebhoy.

I thought Kayal was dipping his head to try and header the ball and got it all wrong. I dont think he was getting out of the way.
As for that idiot Burley when will ESPN see that he is a complete idiot and should not be allowed near a microphone.

I've posted my opinion after rhe last 2 home europa games so i thought i would post again.

Forster. I have been one of his critics but since the goal against Rennes with du-ri he hasn't put a foot wrong in my opinion , His kicking has improved and again tonight pulled off a few really good saves.
Unsited for the goal .

Matthews - I thought he had not a bad first half but became very nervous on the ball in the second half and gave it away to many times. I dont think he gets enough help from Forrest as he's to busy pulling his socks up. I think Matthews had a poor second half.

Majstorovic - I listened to radio clyde on the way home from the game and they said both CB had a poor game, I disagree . Majstorovic was strong won every high ball in the air , could have score in the first 20 minutes . Apart from a very lazy pass just after Athletico goal , I thought he did well.

Loovens - Again i thought he had a good game apart from 2 bad passes , Tracked back and held up play well . But has to clean up his distrabution of the ball.

Ledley - I think he has been one of our strongest players this season . Nothing wrong until taken off . Hope he's fit again soon.

Kayal - I've not seen the replay yet of him ducking but for what i did see i thought he had another strong game tonight full of energy and got stuck in .

Wanyama - First 30 minutes he was comfee passing the ball about but after Athletico's goal i felt he struggled as Athletico stepped up a gear and closed him down quicker , then he game the ball away a bit easy.

Forrest - I like my wingers to be wingers it's ok wanting to run at st mirren or dunfermline but in my opinion he didn't want to take anyone on tonight he only ran with the ball when he had time or space but as soon as someone came to him he passed the buck. he come's in centre to much and doesn't get back to help . leaves matthews with too much to do at times . Everyone else has to work harder to cover him . I do like him but some games he has to work harder .

KI - Very disappointed with him tonight , doesn't do enough to help defensively . gave the ball away to much tonight and didn't work to win it back. he shoots when you want him to pass and he passes when you want him to shoot. Lets hope this is a flash in the pan.

Sameras - Again had a good game . Went missing for 20 minutes in the secound half . I think he is much better when he drives centre with the ball instead of running wide. he is more dangerous when he is direct . I hope his form continues.

Stokes - Looked dangerous in the first 30 minutes after that Athletico took hold of the game and his supply dried up . worked hard but couldn't get a goal.

Mulgrew - Did well enough especially after coming back so soon after his dad died . never did anything wrong . I felt he should have hit the free-kick in the first half stokes hit the wall with.

Hooper - Very slow night for him . Didn't challenge in the air enough . got onto the goal well but was off-side . didn't do much in the game ( only my opinion).

Brown - I felt he should have been on a bit earlier for forrest . I dont mind Brown in game's like these he full of energy and chases every ball . Didn't really do anything to change the game.

I felt celtic looked strong in the first 30 minutes. Athletico looked nervous and unsure on the ball.
After Athletico scores they settled and controlled a lot of the play . i felt there number 4 Mario Suárez had a fantastic game , most of Athletico's play went through him . the last 10 minutes celtic stepped up again and really pushed for a point .

I felt celtic played well and should have at least got a drew but a team like Athletico are always going to be hard and it's games like these you miss something special like a larsson or naka.

I'm Sorry if you dont agree but it's only my opinion .
Let me know your opinion too .

( Everyone & Ed) {Ed007's Note - Sounds a fair enough assessment to me mate, cheers.}

Believable3 Unbelievable1

Great post and fair assessment. Forster should give Kayal pelters with the goal. Kayal must be attending yoga classes, how else could he be flexible enough to move that quickly to get out of the way of that nasty man hitting the ball so hard at him! Pathetic and as Craig B put nil points for bravery! He did have a good game though apart from that nonsense.

Agree1 Disagree0

Fair assessment, disagree with the keeper though. He's so indecisive, can't communicate and, for a man that stands at 6"5', doesn't command his area. Every time a cross is whipped into our area I'm nervous - reminds me of Rab Douglas a bit!

He had a couple of good stops though.

Miko

Agree0 Disagree2

I think he is 6 feet 7! I was behind the goal for the Dunfermline game and he is a bear of a man. If he would only be more confident when coming out and commanding his area he has potential to be a star. Otherwise I am afraid he will be an also ran
