Stuck a fiver on Uruguay to win after Shrek scored, nice little £32.50. Double bonus, Ingerlund are oot!
By the way, am I right in saying Andy Townsend played for the ROI? He's about as Irish as my bottle of Kronenberg. Watching Childs and his guests at the moment, somber and moosey faced, talking like somebody has died. Ha Farkin Ha!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Townsend and Mark Lawrenson both played for the ROI, Townsend got around 70 caps and Lawrenson got about 40.}

Had a fiver on Croatia, Colombia, Uruguay n Japan at 23/1 - Japan done me. Greece's captain got sent off in the first half n Japan had 75% possession, yet they only managed four attempts on goal?!

Finally got round to watching BBC Alba's programme about Jock Stein, if I said I had dry eyes at the end of it then I'd be lying. An incredible man. Heartbreaking hearing folk like Gordon Strachan, Graeme Souness n Archie MacPherson talking about the night he passed away at Ninian Park. Probably one of, if not the, greatest Scottish sports personalities of all time n his legacy will live on forever!

I've seen talk on here about players, managers, coaches, etc knowing what it means to be involved at Celtic? The Lisbon Lions are one of the most incredible teams in the history of the game. Listening to the passion Lions like Bertie Auld, current kit man John Clark, current club ambassador Billy McNeill, current reserves coach Danny McGrain, etc talk about Jock n the club is truly inspirational.

Get the remaining living Lions in together to talk to the current players. Start playing the Celtic Song in the dressing room when the team's in there on match day. It wouldn't be long in putting a rocket up their arse n making them realise whit it means to pull on that famous jersey!

PS, I didn't know Jock got married in the Gilmour Church (that's currently getting done up) next to my flat lol.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I have watched it a couple of times and it stirs every emotion and sums up why Big Jock is legendary.
Every player should watch it to remind them how fortunate they are and the Board should have it on a loop in the boardroom to emphasise the values the big man instilled in our club - and how much they take the support for granted.
MON recognised the importance of the Lisbon Lions and every remaining player should always be appreciated.
Who would not be charmed and inspired listening to Bertie Auld and the like teaching the Celtic traditions?

Agree mate. The Lisbon Lions, for being a fair age now, seem like great motivational speakers. They'll have plenty of tales n stories to tell. Get Jim Craig, Tommy Gemmell, Billy McNeill, John Clark, Willie Wallace, Stevie Chalmers, Bertie Auld, Bobby Lennox, John Fallon, Yogi Hughes, Charlie Gallagher n Jim Brogan in for the first day of training to talk to the lads. Even the 1970 squad of Davie Hay, George Connelly, etc. Could you imagine the impact it would have on the players to hear what it's like to win (or even reach) the Final of Europe's top prize?

Zebra aren't doing the finance this season, it's something like Raphael collections that the DD's are payable to

Just a question for everyone. Touching on what Mrs E mentioned a couple of posts down about fergus being booed. She said 50,000 booed him. I was there but was about 14 at the time but I seem to remember a minority of fans booing him which was quickly drowned out by people clapping and cheering him. Unless there was another time I don't remember. Can anyone clear this up for me?
Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I was there HT I would say if memory serves me it was about 70% clapping the rest oh the eejits booing

Agree0 Disagree0

Henrick it was flag day after we stopped 10 in a row and he was booed, loudly. I don’t know if there’s you tube videos of it. He upset the Support in another way when he criticised Celtic fans songbook and there was the odd banner about this and when we did stop 10-in-a-row it looked like Fergus drove out the Wim Jansen – the guy who managed this.

Why did nobody want a Fergus stand in 2004 – 10 years after he saved Celtic. Why in 2014, what changed? Fergus was not portrayed well in the media either and back then this was our only means of information. David Murray was spending mega amounts at our biggest rivals and we had what seemed someone who was quite miserable, knocked down the jungle, a stand-offish manner and leaving with a lot of money.

Anyway my point really was, nobody will admit to his. We all know there was discontent with Strachan but again everyone thought he was a fab Manager whether at the time he was in-charge or with hindsight, I don’t know. The season WGS left, Walter Smith had returned to Rangers and we lost the league - the previous seasons had seen the likes of Ian Durrant and Paul Le Guen as Managers although he did get us to the last 16 of the CL twice. He was also a rigid 4-4-2

I don’t know if it was after Martin O’Neill but the atmosphere was also a bit flat with Strachan (other than European nights) hence – Lennon brought back the thunder. This was not just missing during Mowbray, it went further back to Strachan’s time.

To a certain extent the legacy today is what Fergus left and fans are still moaning about it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mrs E it has never ceased to amaze me and you alluded to it too, but a number of Celtic fans always seem to believe the negative reporting of Celtic stories by the SMSM . Surely its time that we ignored the Scottish media .

Agree0 Disagree0

My point Mrs E was that you said he was booed by more than 50,000 fans that day. He wasnt. Nowhere near. I remember looking around when the small number of 'fans' started booing and most people were shaking their heads at them. Then the clapping and cheering started and drowned them out.

It irritates me when people say stuff like "Remember the time everyone booed Fergus?". Well they didnt. He was, in fact, appreciated by most.

Agree0 Disagree0

Your right henrik I remember the media had been hounding us because we hardly spent a penny that summer, and some of the support bought into it, needless to say the other mob got it easy spending money they didn't have oh how times have changed

Agree0 Disagree0

Henrick I would like it to be the case that during his time at Celtic he was appreciated by most but I'm not so sure. Did the cheering not start when the flag went up?

Remember the 'Bhoys Against Bigotry' google this and use images - you'll see the banner.

Nobody is admitting to this and it was only 16 yrs ago but even you admit a section of our support did boo him.

Yourman - I don't know about you but I'm finding the 'mainstream media' is now being taken over by 'journalists' online who talk just as much tripe however they have no governance over them. Some seem to think if its come from a 'journalist' onlne who isn't mainstream then it must be true.

Totally agree though, the media had a terrible agenda against Fergus and their portrayal was unforgivable. And I'm cynical when it comes to conspiracy theories!

Agree0 Disagree0

Well the only way to bring closure on this matter is see how the stadium reacts on Flag Day in 2 mths time.

Agree0 Disagree0

HB he will get the reception he rightly deserves – the positives by far outway the negatives.

I’m just not a fan of rewriting the past and the complaints regarding the Board etc are nothing new.

Agree0 Disagree0

I was at game, flag day stopping 10 in a row. Are you sure you were at game Mrs E? Cause all I heard were cheers

Agree0 Disagree0

DN - did ye? Aye.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mrs E yes. I did. Perhaps next time post something that is factual correct and stop trolling google to look up things to make up a story/tell lies

Agree0 Disagree0

I stand corrected, damn you google giving me lies and wrong info. I do not know why anyone uses the Internet for information, it's unheard of and I should know better. Sorry

At least nowadays folk can't deny saying stuff or slating the board etc, phew

Just a thought here but anyone think collins is being groomed for the managers job for the future?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

In his own head anyway, that's one of the reasons I didn't want him to get it. I can see him plotting against RD in the future. Hope I m wrong, in meantime i'll be giving both men my support.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gunnie, he could well be. let's just sit back and let Ronny and JC get on with the job of getting us to the Group Stages of the CL. I think this will be quite an exciting for the Team with the new management structure in place. Everyone will be out to impress and hopefully some of our younger Bhoys will be able to gain from the experiences of the new Management Team. I for one am looking forward to seeing a fitter and faster type of professional donning the Hoops this season. They will all have my full backing and support for the foreseeable. Hail Hail

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he could be there as a back up incase it doesn’t work out with Ronny (some will like this, defaulting to the ex-Celtic player again lol)

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think he is being groomed for the future but I think Collins will be thinking it could lead to him eventually getting the job!

Agree0 Disagree0

If you were being cynical you could say that about any assistant. I think the powers that be think/hope that young John Kennedy will possibly be a future manager. He has a lot still to learn, but he seems the type, has a good character, and carries himself well. But I am talking maybe in 5-8 years time. Deila has impressed me so far, he seems to have a nice manner, and we all have to get behind him, and not be looking for negatives. We have to let him implement his ideas, give him a bit of time, and any player not willing to get behind him/show respect should be chased!

Will you be buying the new Celtic strip - I won't be rushing out to buy it. It's awful dark and would be better in the winter months I think.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Mrs E, My birthday is in Aug and my daughter always gets me the new top. Don't know if I would purchase it if I wasn't getting it as a pressie. As the years pass on (47) the no of times I wear my top lessens. Always wear my Hoops to the games though. Hail Hail

Agree0 Disagree0

The mrs just surprised me with it after work 2day, I think it's nice and so does she(normally she doesn't )but she did say it's not as dark as she thought and wished it was darker, I say if it's got a celtic badge it's good enuf for me
Hail hail

Tam, I always like the green & white hoops top :-)

I really like the 125th anniversary top and my wee yin still wears it. I just don't know how this one would look in the middle of Summer (maybe a Woman thing)

Cha, I've not seem the top except online. It's defo a grower lol

Agree0 Disagree0

I pre-ordered the new Cetic kit last week and it arrived yesterday. Got "Saor Alba" (Free Scotland) n #14 on the back - but they managed to misprint it, SOAR Alba! Phoned them asking if I can take it into a store for an exchange but I've to return it to Manchester, I also need to fork out for recorded delivery then pay P&P for them sending it back out again. going to just ask for a refund!
