Does Darnell Fisher remind anyone else of Paul Caddis? Thought Caddis was a good player and Fisher is looking great too, hope we hold onto him longer.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I was trying to get Caddis' name out of people in here about four months ago.
Forrest was mince on right wing and I recalled Caddis' good performances there. Blistering good runs and excellent crosses. I forgot his name. He's now Birmingham city right back. But versatile and can use both feet and play at left back also.

Agree0 Disagree0

Caddis is a great wee player, but I think he was too wee to be a defender and was caught out at the far post with crosses too often and that's why he was punted?
His control, crossing and energy on the right was always good though.

evening ed, fellow posters ,

been thinking about this all week , my kids are at an age now to enjoy going to the games so asked me to take them for the wee 1ns birthday which happens to be the cup game against Aberdeen which as we know the top tier will be closed the game being on telly low crowd expected blah blah etc . but just a though for you all ., could it be a plan that we may just sign a player to get us excited in the final days before deadline ensuring said signings first game would be against the reds therefore a clamour for tickets opening the rest of stadium for a sell out ( or is this Just my devious wee wishful thinking mind at work!,! ) just a thought

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Don't think any big signing will come this month just the same old potential unfortunately. As for the Aberdeen match we will only get 30k as it is on tv and I sadly fear the only time we will get a sell out at home is when we play rangers or champions league matches, don't even think winning league or flag day will sell out unless they make it a tenner for a ticket.

Agree0 Disagree0

It would take one hell of a signing tommy

Hi folks, not a regular poster but always come on for a read. Was just wanting to see if anyone had heard about Paul Hartley's resignation the same as I have. Was told off a close friend of in of the clubs players that Hartley had kicked off after their defeat and lashed out at a player. Not seen anything online about it.

Was also wanting to see who everyone sees as our next manager if Lennon were to leave? Personally I hope he doesn't just yet but I think Coyle/Jackie are the most likely.

ThomoBhoy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hope Lennons not going anywhere soon, but if he does and Celtic go down the cheap, and up and coming manager route
Jackie etc, I hope they would consider Henrik who`s been cutting his teeth in management for the last couple of years.
think he could bring a more technical style of football that could benefit at home and in Europe.

Agree0 Disagree0

NL will surely move on in the next year or two. I'm not too sure Jackie or Henrik are ready to step into such a big job at this stage (could be wrong though, as NL has done ok for a rookie). I'd say Malky or Coyle most likely, can't really think of any other good experienced managers with a good knowledge of how our club works (barring Moyes of course). Just as long as it's not The Slug lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

Forgot about Lambert.

Agree0 Disagree0

Obviously I would love Celtic to find as high a calibre manager as possible, but these guys cost and spend big money.
A route I can`t see Celtics board going down while the league we play in remains as it is.
that's why I suggested they go for Henrik if they go down the rookie route.
bennybhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Ooofft, the Slug that would see us a Club in crisis! I'd sit behind him and throw rotten tomatoes at his baw heid just to distract from the dire 'football' he attempts.

Seriously I'm not sure about a Lennon replacement so I must rate him higher than a few. With Mowbray I just wanted him gone.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree Mrs E, sign the Slug and watch dire football, but think about all the great match reports you would get to read,
then there`s the penalty`s another bonus.
but unfortunately he comes into the high calibre type of manager we can`t afford. that`s before the extras like cheap shares and his entourage.
bennybhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

I would really hope its not Coyle he will just be another Mowbray, we need to build on what we have with the zombies return approaching would hate to settle for a poor manager and give them hope of winning the league. Kick them while they're down!

Agree0 Disagree0

Please no more rookie managers! The club could do so much more with seniority and experience, yes like Gordon Strachan or Martin O'Neil back in the job. They know all the mistakes and don't repeat them. The best candidate for prime minister is the guy that's about two years out the job. Lenny gets a lot wrong in euro campaigns. Basic stuff. We can't go through all that with Jackie Mac again. Ffs Jackie hasn't even got a complete season done in top tier and proven he's any good to get the top job.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bennybhoy we could clear out the midfield, big Sal doesn't use that part of the pitch. See a lot worse than Neil Lennon, much worse!

I wouldn't want to see Neil Lennon leave for another rookie. As rookie Managers go, he's done not too badly at all.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mrs E Agree again, I think Neils doing a great job and hope he stays.
If he took the Norwich job I would love to see Hooper`s face when, Samaras, Forrest, and Mulgrew got out the car after him.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would hate to lose Lennon. He's done really well for us considering he was a rookie manager when he took over the shambles that Mowbray left us with. I know he can be a bit tactically naive sometimes but he'll only get better with experience and I'd rather he gained that experience with us and we build together. The main thing I like about Neil is his heart for Celtic. How many managers would have put up with what he has and still remained, remembering he's a family man? Having said that, if Neil did decide to take another job I'd have to wish him the best of luck, he deserves it. As for a replacement if he was to leave (which I doubt) I'd prefer us to go for someone with experience rather than a rookie (Larsson, Jackie etc). Someone who knows a thing or two about European teams. I don't think that being a "Celtic man" is a prerequisite for taking our great club forward. Just my tuppence worth.
Hail Hail

Agree0 Disagree0

People forget Lennon was Mowbray's number 2. I always suspected he knifed Mowbray between the shoulder blades with his dressing room influence.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Mark Venus was Mowbray's assistant and Peter Grant was head first team coach. NL was only employed as a general coach at the time.}

20 Jan 2014 08:14:42
@12 not a fan of Lennon then to talk p*sh and call him a back stabber

Agree0 Disagree0

Mark was from Venus, Tony was from another universe. Sopotcelt.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lambert, Moyes, Coyle, Mackay. I don't think there's a shortage of decent managers that would one day like to take over the hoops. Big Johan might not necessarilly move with Lennon. I think if Larsson did come in he could be in partnership with Johan and even Parker. Who would be head coach is up to them.

Lambert, McKay, coyle all EPL strugglers . Don't see how this is a step up from Lennon .

Agree0 Disagree0

@MB The EPL is a very large step up from the SPFL, who's to say Lenny could even get a job in the EPL - let alone get a team promoted fi the Championship to it and see out a season or three?

Agree0 Disagree0

I love Henrik aswell, but he manages in the Swedish second division for a reason. His eye for talent is a bit suspect aswell (bangura), your hero should never come back. I wish him all the best but not sure I want him in charge of us. Lennon isn't leaving unless fans with half a brain push him out because they are bored off winning and need some excitment.

Likewise HB who's to say he couldn't do it?
A do know for a fact that Cardif are bottom of league so Mckay wasn't doing great was he, Clarke WBA were a couple off bottom not great, lambert slightly better but still not great. All pretty inexperienced aswell as a manager. A really can't see why any of these would be any better than Lennon . Would you want a Tony Pulis, Ian Hollaway, Sam alerdyce . They all got teams promoted from championship and have kept teams in EPL . If a heard they were replacing Lennon a wouldn't be happy

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd take Ian Holloway in a heartbeat, because he wouldn't stand for the BS that goes on in our board room - but for that very reason he'd never be a Celtic manager.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - You had a Monday Club session today HB?}

Iam not sure about anything else but he wound not stand or the bs in our boardroom are you taking the piss you just have to look at the mob across the city to see what bs is you must be to young to remember the Kelly's and whyte s of this world who ran our club into the ground before McCann and Dempsey saved or club but you think this board full of bs you must be joking mate

HB although a don't always agree with you m8 a normally think you seem a quite intelligent guy (through your posts), but there's no danger that Celtic would be better off with an Ian holloway than a Neil Lennon. Am pretty sure the majority of fans wouldn't want it get excited about it or accept it.
As for taking BS from the board there isn't a gr8 deal a manager can do if the chairman tells you what's what

Agree0 Disagree0

Found myself browsing over this thread and thought I had to highlight the combination of utter dross, inexperience, over-rated and uninspiring names mentioned in regards to replacing our manager who by the way as of yet hasn't had a single official offer to leave Celtic in his time as manager at the club.

Personally I wouldn't start a debate about Lennon leaving until I had more to go on that a headline in a scottish rag but I understand that's what this platform is for.

So tell me, after your debating have any of you twigged yet the problem we face if Neil Lennon got sick of the snipers or was given an offer he couldn't refuse? Coyle, Holloway?, Lambert, McNamara, Larsson.

Some of you, like me have a bit of foresight and realise if we lose NL within the next 2 years Celtic will be facing the lowlifes arrival in the top flight with a new manager. Seriously folks, careful what you wish for. 2 months ago when we were suffering in the CL and losing to Morton there were a ton of people on here wanting the manager out and McNamara in because Dundee Utd were playing some good stuff. Have any of you seen Dundee Utd lately? Rank rotten. Not one of the names mentioned or any of the one's I can think of who we could realistically afford or convince to come to Scottish football excite me at all. It could genuinely be the difference between us achieving 10 in a row or f*ckin up the chance.

A chance we may never get again.

According to the rags norwich keepin an eye on lennon so just wondering other fans thoughts on 'IF' he went down south how would he get on. Before anyone gives me abuse for this next part remember its only my opinion so don't get all defensive lol. I could be wrong but if lenny left and went 2 a premiership club a really think he would get found out as an average manager at best. He gets away with his tactical naivety and poor substitutions and timings of subs coming on up here due to a poor standard of league but we only have to look at cl games to see that at some points he comes across like he doesn't have a clue. Being on tw@tter which I will never understand it's ridiculous arguing with currant buns and the board should have told him 2 get off that a long time ago. The total lack of youngsters bein given a chance and sticking with the trusted favourites which at the end of the day is his say no 1 elses. His endless amounts of dross signings apart from a few. Not saying he won't become a top manager and end up at a decent mid table premiership team but at this point imo he's just not ready for that step up

GunnieBhoy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Even of NL was a great manager he could easily get canned after a season. Alternately there are those that get opportunity after opportunity and always seem to be in work down the road and they can be as average as can be imagined. Wait a minute isn't this exactly what happens in normal jobs! Sopotcelt.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jan 2014 12:36:42
Be carefull what you wish for. Yes he has made mistakes and he is to loyal to players who maybe should be dropped. At the end of the day he is getting us results, trophys, cl football 2 years in a row. I had my season ticket through the brady, mccarri, venglos, barnes, & mowbary years and think lennon is doing a good job. Canny see him going down south as he won't get the time and backing he has recieved at paradise.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm no servo saddo been a bhoy since 1961! but I'll gladly get NL a taxi sent around ASAP & even pay the fair! He's had a good European run last year, but has been found out this time around due to his lack of tactical nous, & persistence in playing the same dreary style & players, he's also failed to give the new lads the kids an opportunity to show in real games what they have! With the current state of the domestic competition & the resources we have to hand, it should be a pre requisite that we're winning the domestic treble every year! No matter who the manager is.

Agree0 Disagree0

@3 well Mr Servo saddo? with no name, even St Martin could get us into the K.O. stage's of the champion's league but Lenny did and without spending the same money as MON, you say your not a servo? I smell pi$h here, yes, we had a bad champions league although we got into the league proper, also he is the manager and he fall's on HIS decision's, tell me who would you, if you are a Celtic supporter, make the new Celtic manager?.Some on here forget about Barne's Macari, Venglos, and Mowbrey, if you want to go back to that, you must be thick. We are still unbeaten in the league under Lenny's leadership, that will do me fine.OBTW I have been watching Celtic since 1957 and believe me this is not even near some of the worst Celtic team's I have seen.

So who we gony get to replace him, remember he is still a young manager he is going to make mistakes . His defeats to lower league teams aren't good but most managers get them . Getting to the CL group stages is an achievement when your playing in Scotland. Trebles if they were that easy there would have been a lot more won, how many times have we won them in 125 years .
McNamara unexperienced manager same as Lennon gives youth a chance out of necessity who's to say what he'd do with money.
Hartley just quit took Alloa as far as they could go, to a 5-1 defeat.
Clarke cracking experience as a number 2 good start to his career as manager then sacked for bad results and being to close to bottom of league.
Mckay wins promotion then sacked weather or not the chairmans a tool there still a think bottom of the league.

Agree0 Disagree0

Tambhoy (wow that's an original non de plume) Hence why I choice not to use one, why must I be thick? Of course have had some shocking managers over the years! I'm not disputing that, but with NO current domestic competition NL should be doing a far better job with the resources available than he currently is! That was my point, personally I would like to see Mcnamara given a chance, but no doubt you'll spout your usual (what's he won where's his management medals nonsense) Lennon had none when we gave HIM the chance! as for your comment about smelling pi$$? That will be from you having had to many Buckie & pledge cocktails. Remember this is a fans forum, & not your personal site for pooh poohing everybody else's opinions simply because there at odds with your own blinkered views.

Here lads nower in ma post did I say I wanted him 2 leave or be sacked lol I was askin if he did leave of his own accord and went to the premiership then how would he get on that's all I was asking. No going to lie if he did leave I wouldn't be that gutted about it tbh but that's just my feelings we are all different and have different opinions hence why this is a banter page

GunnieBhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

He will go at end of season why else did he get amendments to the contract. Regardless of his legend status he isn't anywhere near the manager WGS was/is and before celtic he was with poor teams and hardly set the heather in fire but he knew how to deploy tactics. I agree if he does go there are other managers who could do the same job he has done. John Collins might be ok. Owen Coyle. Anyone who will win the league show progress in Europe play passing football train the players to retain the ball better (after all NL was an effective passer) and revamp the set up which would allow our good young players to get a chance. Save us spending millions on players bring out own nucleus through and use millions saved to be able to either raise our wage structure or sign 1 or 2 5/6 million players in. It's not that NL hasn't done a job he has but his tenure is up he is stagnating the club.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I have said before that I wouldn't be at all surprised to see NL leave this summer. If he doesn't he is in fact tying himself to the club for a further two years. Next summer The Rangers/Sevco/Newclub should be making it's debut in the top league and he won't want to lose face by not taking on that challenge. I just don't think he has the heart or the desire to be here for that length of time. If a decent level of EPL club makes any approach to take over next season I think he will (or already might be) give it serious consideration. Does he maybe feel he has taken the club as far as he can unless he gets serious financial backing from the board?}

@6 At least I have the gumption to put a nom de plume, whoever you are and yes I still smell Pi$h, Eh I believe Jackie Mac Has Managed Partick Thistle and Dundee Utd, or doe's that not count, as for drinking Bbuckie and pledge, it must have been good for me, at least I know how to spell unlike your good self, if it is a FAN's forum as you say maybe you should start acting like one but then again Mr Sevco saddo I don't believe you are.
Tambhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

I also think if/when Sevco get into the SPL for the first time, NL may not wish to be a part of all the sectarian bigotry crap that will raise it's ugly bile filled head again.
The high profile of these games will generate more gutter press and mischief making and the nutters will be back in force with their death threats and assaults etc etc.
The Old Firm nonsense will be force fed even though it cannot exist and who would blame him for not wanting to face the wee fat slug's smug wee coupon 4 or 5 times a season again?

JJ

Agree0 Disagree0

My personal opinion and hope is that NL finds a new club. I think he has done a decent job and performed much better than many others could have done under the circumstances. He also deserves some real resources and a new challenge possibly the EPL would suit.
My issue is not so much who is coming in but will the board back them. As the board cannot keep feeding the fans the "strategy" and as they appear to be loathe to pay top dollar then one option would be to capture a decent manager and give the new manager a very good salary, in turn he will bring one or two top players along for below market value. Of course this has been done before. Look at Lennons arrival with Mon. Wm Jansen with Henke and Dr Jo with Lubo. So its hardly rocket science or new thinking. This way the wage bill and transfer fees are kept under control and the extra investment is spent on a wily fox manager in the mould of Dr Jo or WJ.
Scottish managers like Jackie and The OC may well be starved of funds and although bringing a new broom may have just as many problems with the "markee" signings or lack of them that NL has had. What I am saying is the board want big signings but will be working overtime to avoid paying top dollar and this is one solution I am sure they will be considering.
Sopotcelt.

Agree0 Disagree0

Tambhoy so you slag someone off as YOU have the gumption to use an alias! WTF are you on about, that's hardly any different from being anonymous is it? Lighten up you sound like a typical keyboard fan, if you actually got to the actual games you would certainly see there are many fans unhappy with the dross currently being offered up as entertainment, & for the record I'm a STH so you can forget any of your usual zombie/ sevco shat! Cheers Doug

Agree0 Disagree0

Lennon played under MON - MON reached the UEFA cup final, if he really wants to engrave his name in Celtics history, then that is a realistic target; no point in going to an EPL or championship team. Try overseas if not

Agree0 Disagree0

@13 Doug don't think I was slagging him off for not having the gumption to have a nom de plume, think I was answering his post were he was slagging mine, or did you not read that one and yes if someone want's to go back to the good old day's with Macari and co, I stand by my statement they are thick, also as I have written I have followed Celtic since 1957, so no keyboard supporter here old bean, were you there yesterday? Also it will be a prerequisite to have a name on this site soon, so why not have one?just like you have Doug,
Tambhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Tambhoy firstly yes I was at the game yesterday (as usual home & away) & it was a more entertaining game than of late, but one swallow doesn't make a summer does it? secondly why do you think we would go back to the bad old days as you put it simply by having a manager other than NL? & thirdly will the fact that this site will soon block unregistered contributors from airing their views really make that much of a difference to what's really going on within our club & the real world? After all celtic has numerous other fan sites that allow views to be aired freely without the need for personal details to be logged, then sold onto any tom dick & Harry, night nite Doug

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I can guarantee you that the only personal detail required is a logging in name and an e-mail address. All e-mail addresses are treated with complete confidence and will not be sold or given to anyone else. If you want to moan about it you can pi$$ off and try to find any other forum that you don't need to be a member of let alone only register a name and e-mail for. The sole reason we are doing it is to stop trolls like you and improve the site, so you can either get off your high-horse and register as a user or stop posting, if you need a hand to stop posting I can block you from this end.}

Ed nails it with the comments about the board. They're the biggest restraint on NL. We had a right good squad last year, and NL achieved (overachieved?) with CL last 16. that's where we should have been levelling ourselves. Instead we sold our top scorer and our most valuable player and didn't come close to replacing them, never mind improving those positions. The lack of league competition makes it even worse that a club who should be trying to better themselves in Europe would act like that.

Agree0 Disagree0

This is the point I raised the other day about an element in our support:-

'but one swallow doesn't make a summer does it'

They seem to revelling in the attendances being down and are disappointed this was not the case on Saturday and that we won 3-0 against a physical Motherwell side.

Weird!

Agree0 Disagree0

@16 Think ED and Mrs E have answered some of your question's, you don't know if a new manager would be like the other's but I know Lenny's a winner, as for your other post about alias's, doe's the first three letter's in my ALIAS not give you a hint as to my name, thought it quite obvious realy Doug.
TAMbhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

See for a seasoned veteran fan of nearly 60 years Tam, you really do come across as quite obnoxious most of the time.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm completely with JimTim here. There's a total lack of ambition at the club. The SPFL is a given. The goals should be achieving two domestic cup final's and challenging in the CL group stage, whether that's for 2nd spot (as we've now done it 3 times in the past 8 years) or the EL knockout rounds. Instead we sold our best players for tidy profit, replaced them cheaply with players who weaken the team, knocked out one of the cup's at the first hurdle, get rid of the only source of atmosphere in the ground (not once but twice), get embarrassed in the CL including an all time record defeat in a European competition and settle for this "unbeaten record" crap we're getting fed.
