Two words. Civil unrest. Small words that can obfuscate the biggest problem.

In layamans terms it's evasive, obscure just like a DK statement.

If Brown goes I hope he gets the fanfare he deserves. listening and reading things over the last few weeks you would think we were getting rid on a dud.
The man is a born leader. even if he isn't playing his winning mentality around the place could be crucial in helping us over the line.
Yes over the years he has had hard times but has been instrumental in the BR era.
I for one would love to see him around the place 10.
He is being made a scapegoat for fails of what could be described as a total miss management of the summer window were glaring areas of the team were never addressed.
Let's all do the broony.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

18 Jan 2019 21:25:30
I don't think any of us really want rid of Brown as such. However, like all great players they have a time limit and Broony is not dumb. He has been great for us and we must recognise (as he does) that he is not as fast and sharp as he used to be. He is also having to work a lot harder due to our defensive failings. He can still do a job for us both on and off the park, just not as regular as in the past. If he decides to look for a final payday elsewhere then who can blame him? (God knows WE have been used often enough by big names looking for one) . If Broony stays on in some capacity then most of us will be happy. If not, good luck to him.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Jan 2019 23:26:49
If brown goes itā€™s a big blow for us. He may not be the brown of 2/3 years ago but still has something to offer. Heā€™s our leader, the one man to get the message across to the players in the heat of the battle. Heā€™s been an absolute battler in that midfield and I for one hope heā€™s here for the ten in a row.

Agree2 Disagree0

19 Jan 2019 02:49:15
Agree Brown has had some poor games of late but he must be kept to the end of the season. He knows the club tradition and can fire up the lads before big games. If he goes who is going to do that half as well?

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jan 2019 11:56:59
As I said yesterday; the time for him to leave (if that's what he has decided) is the end of the season - hopefully with two more medals.
I appreciate the team has performed very well in his absence, with quicker tempo and slickness, but his influence and presence around the place should not be discarded half-way through a season?

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Jan 2019 20:03:20
Brown wonā€™t leave now may sign pre contract. But thatā€™s by the by no CB coming in no shock there we have like 5/ 6 of them why get one now who is needed by other clubs. We could still stick Boyata in the reserves and still do well. But BR likes him no matter what he does so he will play. RB we have three who are fighting for that place so we are not going to get a fourth cause how many do u need? Yeah the right wan mute not be there but come on how many transfer windows do u need to get the right one in? I think now with Tierney being out and know looking any closer to being back for a while itā€™s an attacking LB we need we only got one fit LB that to me is where we need quality cause am no wanting to see McGregor there again.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

18 Jan 2019 19:23:36
BR said that a CB is unlikely because if we buy a CB of quality they would be expecting to play. Forgive me but has Boyata's agent not stated clearly that he will not be signing a new deal with Celtic? Get a CB in who wants to be here and let Boyata warm the bench until he gets his wish to leave.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Jan 2019 20:10:25
Are you the real Pedro? It's not like we don't have the money to do it and if getting a new CB up and running in time to make a difference in the qualifiers next season then it would be money well spent. What's Ā£500k compared to Ā£30M+?

Agree3 Disagree0

18 Jan 2019 23:33:30
If we come out this window with no new RB and CB then Iā€™ll be amazed. Iā€™ve read what rodgers has said but for me weā€™ve been screaming out for a new RB for a couple of seasons now and the CB situation is a shambles.

For Celtic to let boyatas contract situation to get to this stage is criminal, furthermore to not have identified a centre back of decent quality from somewhere out the whole world of football that we could get this window is unbelievable. Yes I know the best deals are done in the summer but to have no one earmarked for this window to replace boyata is a disgrace if it isnā€™t dealt with.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jan 2019 00:25:33
Like everyone else I was far from happy with the whole Boyata affair in the summer but it is interesting that he was not sold and yet when Dembele did the same thing he was sold on the last day leaving us short of attacking options. To say that Boyata is average at best is I believe unfair to him. He has contributed as much as anyone else to us being top of the league going into the winter break.

Even in the inflated world of the EpL no ones going to offer 14m for a player if he's just an average spfl player. The days of one team players are long gone which is whyplayers such as kT, Calmac, Forrest etc are so much loved by the fans because they are like us and love the team.

Others are mercenaries and use Celtic as a stepping stone to a bigger team. Should we be surprised if Boyata is like that. He signed a contract and he is honouring that contract so I don't see the problem. We gave him the money he wanted and he gave us the years we wanted, can we not just shake hands and wish each other the best.

Apart from the fuss at the beginning of the season Boyata has give his best for us whilst there others whose only contribution since coming here is t take a wage I'd rather see them being cleared out before Boyata.
Rant over HH.

19 Jan 2019 07:01:30
Iā€™ve absolutely no problem with boyata in terms of him doing his 4 years as stated in his contract and for me when he leaves he goes with my best wishes. My problem with this scenario is this. Firstly with a year left to run on his contract, for us to knock back Ā£9 million, yes Ā£9 million when we new he had no intention of signing a new deal is criminal from celtics point of view. I was absolutely astonished we were even offered Ā£9 million for boyata in the first place. Yes heā€™s done a job for us and yes since he threw his dummy out the pram and refused to play in those European qualifiers ( which contributed big Time to us blowing a potential Ā£30 million) he has actually played well with the exception of that shambolic Ibrox performance, however with 6 months left on the contract and no signs of him extending his stay he should be dropped for a player whoā€™s committed to the cause or in my opinion we should be replacing him with a better player. Weā€™ve had ample time, the whole of last summers window right through to this window to identify a CB who is achievable in getting this window. I know thereā€™s still time but weā€™ve signed 3 players, 1 permanent And two 6 month loans. Our defence has been screaming for attention for far too long now and for it not to be addressed is shocking. I get by reports weā€™re going to be signing two American full backs but again I believe theyā€™re projects, we need first team replacements right now aswell as bringing in up and coming players.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jan 2019 09:21:03
I was angry with Boyata the way he treated us all by refusing to play, but then he got his head down and probably played the best Iā€™ve seen him play, I would keep him until the end of season and still get a new centre back in now, that would give the new centre back time to settle and Boyata to fall back on as he knows the club, league expectations etc. My only worry though with Boyata is how hard will he try, if he gets a serious injury now it could ruin him getting a contract somewhere else.

Thing about football is there is no such thing as standing still. If youā€™re not going forward, by definition youā€™re going backwards. Seems to me we donā€™t want to improve as a football, just content to hope we will. Even as a ā€œ for profit ā€œ organisation, to not prepare and plan for youā€™re access to the highest potential financial gain available is utterly baffling.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jan 2019 10:56:55
100% agree chad about, I probably what some would call on here ā€œa panty wetter ā€œ but could u blame me? Like you, this situation shouldā€™ve been addressed long ago with a view on a CB &RB coming in this month. This situation hasnā€™t just landed on celtics lap. Yes thereā€™s 12 days to go in this window but other than the two american boys weā€™re continually linked with, would anyone be 100% shocked if thatā€™s it, or if anyone other than those 2 are midfielders rather than the area we really need addressed?

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jan 2019 11:15:48
Kev our wage bill is through the roof. 30m wonā€™t last forever at 50 plus million a year on wages. No matter how much we invest the CL is being made harder and harder for teams like us to get in. We have a massive squad full of players on good wages who arenā€™t making the grade. Until some of those are shifted then it makes no sense to bring in more!

Sorry Kevbhoy, Pedroā€™s not talking mince, you are. Sevco raised Ā£22M when they were in the lower divisions in a share issue and couldā€™ve operated on a couple of million a year at that point. Because of their mismanagement, theyā€™re now about the same amount in debt and could risk liquidation again if they continue. We are developing well and running at a profit and will continue to do so despite the nonsensical ramblings of some who donā€™t understand basic economics.

The news from BR today is very disappointing he's being banging on about how important this window is for players to settle in for the early qualifiers but he's signing players on 6 months loans, the defence is still not sorted his statement today about if he signs a quality CB he would have to play him is laughable, A thought we would have learned our lesson the last window there just seems there's no strategy just quick fixes, rant over lol šŸ€.

I think the fact we have Lustig, Ralston, Gamboa, Boyata, Simunovic, Ajer, Benkovic, (Compper) , Hendry, Izzy, Miller, KT and even Bitton still on the books makes the case to add very difficult/ complicated.
I'm sure if we were able to offload at least four of this 'team' of defenders in this window it might change things?
Boyata seems to be staying until summer and that is also a factor.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Jan 2019 22:34:51
COYBIG why u calling the guy Mr Traynor for being 100% correct! Brendanā€™s comments on bringing in a centre half will be difficult because he would want to play is one of the most idiotic statements Iā€™ve ever heard! So u donā€™t want to sign a centre half because heā€™ll want to play but the rat that is boyata who doesnā€™t want to be here is ok!

Our transfer strategy is utterly farcical and to hear our manager say he canā€™t wait to see how 2 players who will be here for 4 months! Yes 4 not 6 as he says, develop is embarrassing! And now the only player weā€™ve spent money on is a project player whoā€™s not ready yet at the age of 22! This window has started how the last one ended and thatā€™s abysmal! Weā€™re not getting a centre half, and still no sign of the RB weā€™ve been crying out for! Shocking!

CH15 cos itā€™s the same pish I see day in/ day out on here and in the Scottish press. Weā€™ve got the best defence in Scotland by a mile, all of whom are internationalists, including two who played in the last 8 of the World Cup. The fact that three of them might (and itā€™s only a might) be leaving is something for the club to manage and they will. Boyataā€™s is under contract until the summer and should we choose not to play him, we will still have to pay his wages. Not good management in my book.

Thankfully BR is managing the situation very well getting the best out of a player in the final months of his contract. The fact that there is no option to buy in the loan contracts doesnā€™t necessarily mean that the loans will end in the summer. Itā€™s possible that they have been brought in to get us over the line this season but I doubt that very much. Iā€™d like to think in both situations, the clubs have said letā€™s set the deals up for the rest of the season and see how it goes after that.

Above all weā€™ve got a largely young team who have won 7 trophies on the trot and weā€™re holding onto most of our key players and continually Iā€™m reading posts from wannabe football managers who know feck all about running a club that weā€™re a shambles in the transfer market, weā€™re going backwards, weā€™re not investing and I find it really tedious.

I watched Celtic when it was run by Jack McGinn and we did have problems then. We also had them when Alan McDonald was running the club and criticism in these eras was justified. Today it is not. The club is possibly in s better place than itā€™s ever been so when I read posts like this I have to question their motivation. Is it just misguided nonsense or calculated mischief making. Either way, itā€™s a load of pish.

Completely agree with you Kwaj. Iā€™ve made no secret of my opinion that players who choose to leave the club should be gone forever and, like many others, I have been disappointed by Boyataā€™s behaviour at times. However, heā€™s still at the club and while he remains, Iā€™ll give him my backing and encouragement and if he chooses to stay, Iā€™ll continue to give him that support. Iā€™m also aware that most of the reports of what Boyata has allegedly said and done has come from the Scottish media in whom I have no trust whatsoever.

Would have liked Caulker as a CB until the summer. I see he has joined some Turkish team. If Neil McCann could get the best out of him I am sure BR and the Celtic back room team would have got an extra 50 percent.

McKenna is not good enough in my opinion especially for the cost associated. Very cumbersome and cannot cope with a striker who has a good touch and pace to turn him. Hope we look for better or at least someone at that level who represents better VfM.

Still think we should be looking at Scandinavia or Europe for better defenders - instead of the SPL guys we score regularly against.

Hello lads, new poster but long time Celtic man. First and foremost I can honestly say I am not a biased fan and open to objective comments and discussion.

Just want to say all this talk about the refs cheating us is in my opinion total rubbish. We are and have always been a club who can take defeat on the chin and all this babble about being cheated over decisions is embarrassing. We have had calls against and for us down the years like all clubs.

Second half of the season I think some players need a kick up the backside and BR to stop tinkering with the tactics. Not too impressed with the January signings so far, not because they are loans, but I canā€™t see them dislodging any of the current players in the team. I think more options in positions we are already strong in will just encourage BR to vary the tactics more often than not.

If I were BR or PL at the moment I would be looking to bring in a fully developed player in their prime similar to the Bellamy or Robbie Keane deals we pulled off several years ago. This would improve the team and give the lads a lift. I remember chatting to a young lad called Josh Thompson (some may not remember him) when we signed Keane and he said that everyday at training he gave 150 per cent more because he wanted to impress him as he was one of his idols growing up.

Cheers.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Welcome aboard mate. Agree with you about the refs - apart from the time Dougie McDonald and assistants got caught cheating and every time Kenny Clark speaks about deliberately denying John Hartson a penalty or what about Jim McCluskey openly telling anyone who would listen in a pub stating he would never give "That bastard Mahe" a penalty.....
It might not go on to the level a lot of people think but to think it doesn't happen at all is very naive, and not just in Scotland.}

18 Jan 2019 11:44:18
If it takes a signing for Celtic players to give there all they shouldnā€™t be near our jersey jabba welcome aboard mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jan 2019 11:55:31
@jabba9 welcome aboard mate, if you require any guidance on here I am known as the "oracle" on here, just ask ED007 lol
Jabba do not know how old you are pal, but sadly Celtic have been on the receiving end of a lot of dodgy decisions since way back, and as ED007 says when you get a CURRENT SFA employee doing after dinner speeches and revelling in denying decisions to Celtic, then that tells you the state of play within the SFA. (Mr Clarke holds a position within the SFA as we write grading and advising today's referees, enough said)

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Jan 2019 12:02:34
Cheers ed007. I think other teams fans will be able to give plenty of examples about times they have been shafted aswell. In our last game for example we were outplayed and deserved to lose, let the ref decisions be the last thing on our mind.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - We certainly deserved to lose at Ibrox but there also certainly should have been action taken on Morelos.}

18 Jan 2019 12:05:57
Cheers Timalloy. I have been around a long time mate and yes I agree there have some strange refereeing decisions gone against us but no more than any other clubs in this country or others.

It seems to me plenty of people are happy to blame the ref and come up with conspiracy theories as opposed to taking a poor result of unfortunate decision on the chin these days.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jan 2019 12:23:07
Ed007 retrospectively I donā€™t disagree with you but the ref didnā€™t card him in the game so we move on.

In terms of him getting a ban now I donā€™t see how that benefits us at all. If he gets banned then Rangers get to play the next game with 11 disciplined players on the park against Killie. If he plays (assuming he does) there is a chance he gets a red card due to his ill disciplined behaviour and they drop to 10 men and maybe lose points.

Agree4 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I don't want Morelos punished retrospectively, I want referees that are capable of impartially applying and enforcing the rules of the game.}

18 Jan 2019 13:00:42
Totally agree with you jabba, but I'll reserve judgement on our new signings until I see them playšŸ‘.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jan 2019 13:04:23
I accept fair and square defeat in any game and Celtic have no divine right to win every week; We never turned up at Ibrox and were beaten by a poor side - who should have been reduced to ten men three times! However, I can't accept there are no biased officials in this country and there are far too many incidents to mention backing this up.
As far as other teams go, I agree they also have cause for concern, but our controversial decisions and game-changing events happen more in the important games (like the Inverness semi-final hand-ball) .

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Jan 2019 13:06:46
Ed007 the ref made a call albeit maybe not the right one and unless proven otherwise it is in my opinion impartial.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - He made the wrong call(s), either through incompetence or bias they were still wrong. Try not to focus on one particular game and look at the overall incompetence of referees across the board and again not just in Scotland.}

18 Jan 2019 13:47:13
Agree Ed the wrong call through incompetentance and poor training and understanding of the game I can get on board with. Also agree that refereeing standards can be questioned but that is a whole other debate and to be fair it is a tough job in real time.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jan 2019 15:11:17
anyone remember kevin o'donnell (rip) getting the bullet after wallace mercer complained he was biased towards celtic after playing his hearts team.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Jan 2019 15:12:48
The thing for me is when a referee gets SO MANY decisions wrong with particularly one player Questions should be asked OPENLY. Yes there are honest mistakes of course there is people are going to make them. And we didn't deserve anything from that game we were rotten. But what is it going to take for to get action against that sort of thing? Has a player to get his short career ended by actions missed by officials deliberately or by incompetence?

Referees have to take some responsibility for the action that certain players take if the Ref is just going to turn the other way as should the SFA take the responsibility for the Referee. God knows they get paid enough for 90 minutes and probably the same time again for writing a report on the match.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Jan 2019 15:13:50
The biggest thing for me is biased refs, how can a ref be impartial if he used to have a season ticket at ibrox and drinks in rangers boozers.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Jan 2019 15:24:45
I still believe the sfa down to the referees are on a mission to stop 10 in a row at all costs because they feel itā€™s embarrassing for Scottish football that one club can be so dominating, without any challenge.
I mentioned before the season started I felt the refs were going to start playing a bigger part to the outcome of more games because after the double decker bus getting flaunted in all their faces, you could feel Scottish football were in a lot of pain. In their eyes they had to help make it more competitive.
More than a few times already this season, teams should have had a man sent off against Celtic but never happened apart from when we were already 5-0 up against St Johnstone. On a few of those occasions the players have received a ban due to the officials missing the incident at the time.
I have counted 9 off the ball incidents against Celtic players in only 20 odd games we have played in Scotland and nothing has happened at the time apart from a telling off, itā€™s not good enough, itā€™s cheating and not once did a Celtic player retaliate, which should be commended.
I keep repeating about the stop the 10 union because itā€™s only the start and we have a farcical 2 and a half years ahead.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jan 2019 17:26:50
So jabba, if it was incompetence as you are suggesting, that would mean beaton did not know that it was an offence to kick someone in the baws because he had an unimpeded view of the incident.

So let me ask you, do you think he does not know the laws of the Game?

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Jan 2019 18:07:00
Welcome James Traynor to the site. You have settled in nicely with quite a few comments about referees in scotland not being biased towards Celtic.
You have made a living out of these comments and now you come on here using your nickname to try and wind up the best fans in the world.
Here we go 10 in a row.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jan 2019 20:25:53
So Jabba, for the avoidance of doubt, are you saying that all these decisions that go against us are simply honest mistakes?

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jan 2019 00:11:16
Yes, I am saying in my opinion they are subjective mistakes by human beings. I do not buy the conspiracy theory as there is no substantiated proof. Go across to the rangers page and ask them about refereeing decisions - they will tell you the SFA and the refs are against them, you can play tit for tat about decisions. Both fans are as bad as each other.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jan 2019 12:56:04
Jabba, you appeared to have avoided answering the question I posed to you. Should I expect a reply?

By the way there are numerous examples of there being a pro-Rangers and anti-Celtic influence within the refereeing fraternity and the SFA.

1. Jim Farry deliberately holding up our signing of Jorge Cadete.

2. Hugh Dallas sharing anti-Catholic material with his colleagues within the SFA. The fact he thought it was OK to do it on a works email shows that there were others within the organisation that shared his prejudices.

3. Campbell Ogilvie helping Rangers cover up their use of EBTs and circumvent the player registration rules and thus cheat every team in Scotland for over a decade.

4. The SFA deliberately misleading the Lord Nimmo Smith enquiry into Rangers' use of EBTs and thus ensuring that Rangers were allowed to get away with their cheating with minimal punishment.

5. Bobby Tait the self-confessed Rangers fan, asking to referee his boyhood heroes in his last match in the 10-in a row season and being allowed to do so. The score was 0-0 at fulltime and Tait played way too much injury time which backfired on this occassion as Kilmarnock scored.

These are just a few examples I can think off at the moment and these can be added to the list of examples already provided by Ed. Now Jabba, can you provide examples like this were the SFA or referees have done anything like this to the benefit of Celtic? (I bet you can't)

Moving back to the officiating at the last Celtic v Rangers game, every one of the officials chosen on that day were all of a Rangers persuassion. Which raises the question why was this the case? When you factor in the phenomenon known as ingroup bias and look at the decisions made that day, then I think it is safe to say that the officiating was bias towards Rangers. Now I cannot say it was deliberately bias as ingroup bias can happen on a sub-conscious level but I think the people who choose that team of officials is as much to blame as the officials themselves for the bias, perhaps even more so.

all this talk of cheating referees, ala Beaton.
how to deal with them.
When a referee in those days made their "honest mistakes" especially in a home game in January/ February, Stein ordered the hot water for the refs showers to be TURNED OFF. Jock also ordered the tea ladies NOT to put out tea and sandwiches, the cheating barstewards soon got the message.

While I'm in favour of bringing in VAR and turning the refs prfessional I don't think it is going far enough if it does not weed out the inherent Rangers' bias among the refereeing fraternity.

Not only that it is not dealing with the blatent cheating by Beaton and making sure he is held accountable for his antics.

Personally I would like outside assessment of refereeing performance brought in, so referees make it to the top on merit and not because of what team they support.

I also think we need outside referees operating the VAR to ensure no bias.

On top of that we should be like England, in that a referee is not allowed to referee a match involving the team they support, again no ensure no bias.

What is everyone elses' thoughts on the matter?

An official shouldnā€™t be involved in a game that involves a team he has a support for. I also think referees should be allowed or made to comment on high profile decisions that happen during a game, not every single decision but the ones that are highly debatable or clearly wrong. Scotland need to move with the technology thatā€™s available. I get itā€™ll cost but I read this morning that we apparently have the funds there for VAR so it must be introduced. I get itā€™s in the very early days and this might not even always get the decision right but itā€™ll certainly help more than it will hinder.

In England they gave to declare who they support so there's no chance of cheating.

I have followed Celtic for almost six decades and there was claims of bias 'way back when', with controversial refereeing performances from the likes of Davidson, Gordon, Waddell, Valentine, Syme and many more, but I have never seen it so structured and obvious than inrecent years, where 'teams' of Sevco Sympathisers are selected in hand picked games to influence games.
'Red Card' Ross has been linesman at the last two Ibrox visits, while Madden, Beaton, McLean, Dallas and 'Column The Incompetent' are top of their list when they need the most 'honest mistakes'.
Having them declare their team of choice like they do in England would probably not work as you would see them pulling a 'Chick Young' and pledge allegiance to St Mirren, The Jags or Clyde LOL.

Ats ok saying that an official shouldnā€™t be refereeing a match for a club they might support, but still what about a club they donā€™t like. Down in England back when it was just arsenal and Utd would it be fair for a referee who supports manu be official for an arsenal game I personally donā€™t think so imo. In Scotland its down to hatred and sectarianism we would have to bring referees from Europe to make it a fair league and casing see that happening. But I do think VAR is needed as for sevco v Celtic game that scrote Morelos should have been sent of multiple times!

Here is something to ponder Gerry, with regards to the people likely operating var in Scotland. Earlier in the season McGregor of rangers took out ajer in what can only be described as an assault. Upon reviewing video evidence there was one unknown referee who believed it did not merit a red card. Hence, McGregor escaped suspension. It is this bias we need to eradicate.

Exactly Rogers, it will probably be the same refs that give us dodgy decisions all season in charge of the var, unless the sfa were to get independent people up from
England or somewhere nothing will change. Although they are never going to do this as it will just say to people that they canā€™t be trusted to be fair and impartial.
