Many seem to want number 10, but I am not worried what number of shirt he wears. First thing we need to get back to winning the battle in midfield, opponents often put extra men in centre midfield to win the battle, we need to make sure we are flexible and strong enough to always boss that area.
By controlling centre midfield our players have that little bit of time and room to play the probing ball to players running towards goal. Most centre midfielders can open a defence if they have time and space .
Last night Chelsea started with William and Pedro who should have enough guile to open up Championship Norwich whose midfield worked their socks off to offset the undoubted extra ability of Chelsea who even brought on Hazard and still couldn't really prise open Norwich.
Controlling midfield is the key.

Unless we sign some players we go into the second half of the season weaker than the end of the first half of the season. Benyu gone. Henderson gone. Eric gone. Griffiths out. Rogic out. Armstrong out. Hayes out. Paddy out. Comper out. The idea was to come in stronger. We need a couple of quality players and if we don't find them this window we go into CL qualifiers before we can add any new faces not to mention a Europa tie in Feb. Its not easy attracting players but that's what needs to be done. If not we may not get CL qualification and with 4 preliminary rounds now we need a larger and better equipped squad and players who can go into the first team not projects. We have Ntcham and Ajar in from last year but out of the loan players we have got out there i don't think any will walk into our match day 11 so it looks like the same team going into CL qualifiers in July. Christie may get a run but we don't know if he can cut it. We will also lose players to the world cup so where does the cover come from?

My prediction for tomorrow's bull transfer story will be CH coming in from Chelsea Loan youth player. Masonda in 18 month loan with DM going to Crystal Palace 15m plus Bentekki.

I thought the winter break would have been a chance to refresh, recover and regroup for the challenges of the next four months; however we seem to have an even more depleted and injured squad than before and it certainly gives the manager more headaches as he assesses absences and deficiencies that need urgent attention on top of any other transfer business we may have been negotiating.
I also agree with Chris as well that we do need to do more in midfield because we very predictable and should vary our line-up and personnel to drive home our advantage in class and ability.

Players get injured, that's just a fact of football. The window is still open, we have to believe what needs to be done, will be. If we don't then he board and Rogers will rightly receive a Barrage of criticism, but, we rent there yet and I cannot see how anybody at Celtic can think we can get away with what we have, if we want to qualify for this years CL. Never mid put up a fight against Zenit.

There was some ludicrous talk on sites that we cold progress to even the final. Well, to even give a good account of ourselves against the Russians requires w improve defensively.

I still believe we will. I wish to Eff they would get on with it though as each day the passes is murder without news.

Evening Ed, Any ideas the fees involved in what it's worth to us the loan deal of Eric and the fee for Liam? Thanks.

{Ed007's Note - The Sviatchenko deal is £200k and £1.3 million in the summer to make it permanent. I'm not sure about Henderson though mate, sorry.}

Hi EDs have use heard the new story from the DR who are reporting story in Croatia that we are interested in two players CH and a midfielder?

Don't know if any of the Ed's know the answer to this, how much are the club expecting to make (profit) , per year from hotel?, I've read hotel/ complex is costing around £18m to build, how many years would it take to re coup that, let alone start making money from it, I know the velladrome has plenty events most weekends, but seriously, I'm not sure this won't be a big waste of money, I'd rather we invested in the playing team, if the above figure is true.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

{Ed007's Note - The hotel won't cost Celtic £18 million as there will be other investors and the cost will probably be paid over a number of years. Celtic don't have £18 million just sitting around and decided to build a hotel with the money. There's no way of knowing how much it will bring in p.a and remember it's not just a hotel, there will be the new shop, museum and ticket office also in the complex, the hotel is only a part of it.}

18 Jan 2018 20:54:05
Thanks, I did wonder if they had £18m just sitting, why they’d plough it all into that👍.

The English transfer market has gone seriously mad. If Man City want Johnny Evans they've been quoted 23 mill!
Sanchez will sign a 4 year deal with Man Utd worth 400 thousand a week.
Chelsea are interested in signing Andy Carroll. WTF is going on. Bonkers if it all comes off.

Believable4 Unbelievable4

18 Jan 2018 15:32:46
Imagine paying £400,000 a week to a guy who downed tools for his club over a year ago. Great player but another so called superstar whos attitude stinks.

Agree3 Disagree2

18 Jan 2018 19:36:29
By all accounts Sanchez would rather have gone to Man City, it just shows what a mercenary he is that he not only does the dirty on them, but he then signs for their biggest rivals.
The game in England is bonkers. Arsenal get £35m for a player who has only 6 months left on his contract yet the press say they've got a bad deal, whereas Man United pay £35m + sky high wages for a player to play 15 games for them and yet that's seen as a good deal.
I wonder if sanity will ever return to that league.

Agree3 Disagree0

400,000 pounds a week, what's that?, 20 million pounds a year, Mourinho, or whoever sanctioned this is a fool.

Roll on the new signings this page is becoming about as positive as a boot to the nuts. 2 weeks of transfer window left and people constantly moaning. Look who Sevco have bought. Who have they bought? A bunch of players that can't even get a game for Scotland. Celtic will make quality signings when they are good and ready. Not one of us has a clue what BR or PL is doing behind the scenes yet quick enough to moan just because they haven't signed on Jan 1st. You would think our team was crap the way people talk on here.

Agree4 Disagree3

18 Jan 2018 14:37:00
Stan people are moaning because Celtic are reverting to our default mode of recent history which is push on win league build anticipation then slowly regress due to lack of investment in the team. So far we've signed another project from a crap league who I doubt will improve us much if any, we've signed a centre half who rarely plays and who may or may not be better than what we've got, we've now got rogic, Armstrong Roberts Hayes and compper all out for a vital month with a lot of games. I'm sure Brendan said he wanted players bedded in for Dubai and looking ahead to the summer qualifiers. I hope to be proven wrong but I expect disappointment with a loan signing all we get who isn't better than what we have. If only the transfer window opened for a week it would save a lot of hassle and ultimate disappointment as I expect for a 3rd transfer window in a row. That said roll on Saturday when we can get back to watching whoever pulls on the hoops😃.

Agree5 Disagree6

18 Jan 2018 14:42:23
I agree, we might get a loan signing who won’t be any better than we have, but more realistically, we won’t sign anyone between now and February, that’s got to be odds on, the guys in charge don’t want to spend money, simple.

Agree3 Disagree6

18 Jan 2018 14:44:55
I think people expect a signing to be as easy as yes/ no Jim, the reality is it is always going to take longer than we want. Plenty time yet to get deals done and i personally don't care if they happen on Jan 31st as long as they are done. A club goes out and buys a player on Jan 25th then suddenly these clubs have players available who maybe were not available at the start of the month. I think people need to calm down and let's see what happens over the next 13 days.

18 Jan 2018 14:54:43
Stan, it’s not a crystal ball, it’s just experience from watching how Lawwell and co operate, there will be no signings coming in unless it’s one on loan, who, like we’ve said, will prob be no better than what we have, and also prob get injured.

Agree3 Disagree5

18 Jan 2018 15:10:17
So not only are we going to get a loan deal they are going to get injured aswel. What else is it going to rain when he is introduced to the fans?

No one moaned at PL when he went and bought Sinclair, Dembele, Ntcham, Kouassi etc and took Roberts and Edouard in on loan.

18 Jan 2018 15:16:46
Jim1972, I'm sure I read BR saying he wanted a couple of arrivals for the trip to Dubai too. I think he said that even after Compper had arrived.

Agree2 Disagree1

18 Jan 2018 15:44:51
So what's your experience of how Lawwell and co have been operating recently Cjb77? Since BR has been here we've paid £3M for Sinclair, £3M for Kouassi and over £4M for N'tcham, our highest fee in a decade, seems to me like they are willing to spend money when a player of interest becomes available.

18 Jan 2018 16:06:33
Kev, look at how much they’ve raked in, if your happy at their net spend fair enough, I’m not, I feel they could’ve spent double what they have, and not pushed the boat out.

Agree5 Disagree2

18 Jan 2018 16:30:22
Brendan did previously say he wanted the players in early for the Dubai trip, personally I’m expecting us to be running around at the last minute with a bid which ultimately fails, then go for a late alternative which we don’t have time to get over the line . It’s probably the cynic in me but we have seen it all many times before. Even the most loyal fans of the board can see we need investment to freshen up the side, to me this season we seem to have regressed ( possibly due to the amount of games, injuries to key players and possibly players getting too comfy ) . The defence looks really poor in Europe and even started to look dodgy in domestic games. I appreciate it’s not easy to pick up players but new players gives everyone a lift including players that have been here for a while . Like someone said earlier about our net spend but surely after two champions league qualification, plus what we have brought in from Van Dijk we could push the boat out a bit . Standing still is basically going backwards, but to be fair the club are pretty good at keeping deals quiet lately until something has been agreed and I hope this is the case but we shall see in a week or two 🙏☘️.

Agree4 Disagree1

18 Jan 2018 16:43:12
You feel they could’ve spent double? What detailed knowledge of the club’s overall finances is that based on?

Agree0 Disagree1

18 Jan 2018 20:50:09
'There will be no signings unless'. How do you know that exactly?

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Jan 2018 21:17:56
Calm yourselves bhoys, No matter how much Brendan wanted players in early and no matter how hard P L tried there is no guarantee that we could get the players we want early, or at anytime for that matter . Players and their agents hold most of the cards .
I am very sure that Celtic could have signed a number of players but these players would not be players that Brendan wanted.
Fans could be rubbing their hands in joy with the names of players already signed, but if they were signed solely to pacify fans, the chances of our team doing any better would be remote.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Jan 2018 14:53:41
Kev, look at season ticket money, CL money, sponsors from Magners New balance etc sales from players, VVD moving to liverpool probably covers the cost of the players you mentioned earlier alone, I’m pretty sure they could’ve managed to spend a bit more on getting in a couple more good players, Peter Lawwell must love guys like you, a yes man in the stands who’s happy with anything that gets served up.

So we have Griffiths and Rogic to add to the already injured Compper and Armstrong and Roberts. Zero chance of getting past Zenith with our fringe players.

You watched a lot of Zenit this season bravetart? It's a 50/50 tie.

Agree1 Disagree1

18 Jan 2018 18:18:57
I've watched a lot of us this season to be convinced we will struggle and Zenith are miles better than what is in our league. Every tie is a 50/ 50 but realistically we aren't at our best and most of our key players are out and we haven't had a decent game in God knows how long so not got high hopes our fringe team will do any better.

It is just the fear of Boyata possibly playing. Armstrong is easily replaced by Ntcham who has been playing better. McGregor isn't his best in the number 10 position and we are a Dembele injury away from a crisis again.

{Ed007's Note - Any injury to Dembele still leaves us with LG and Edouard.}

The transfer window really gets to me as much as the rest, checking various sites every five mins of the day, from 1st thing in the morn, until last thing at night. It really gets to you when you keep reading the same old reports and you don't see much progress. Then we get reports of a possible signing, the flood of comments on the sites, get him in! Over the years I have watched a lot of dross being signed and I honestly think it's to keep fans happy half the time. If we keep putting pressure on the club to sign for the sake of it, we will end up with more dross and I for one am sick of it. I will be there on Saturday afternoon no doubt freezing and it would have been so much sweeter to be watching a new £5million play maker out on the pitch, but I don't just want any old player I want the right one and I for one will give BR the time to get him. Keep the faith bhoys and ghirls, think BR has earned it!

It's like an addiction to look that amount of times I am the same and sometimes when I go to look I remind myself I just looked 15 minutes ago but I still look and until the transfer window closes I will probably trol the net looking to see if we have got any new ones in or players out.

Good luck to Liam Henderson, however all these fans who say BR has made a mistake are so far off the mark, in my opinion. When he first broke into the team I thought, here we have a player, however he soon lost the hunger and I honestly believe he became to comfortable at CP. I watched him play with his long hair more than the ball on the few occasions he got on the park in recent years and watching the various clips of him travelling to training with Broonie, showed how over comfortable he became. I hope the bhoy goes away and finds his hunger again but it was never going to happen at CP.

It’s getting beyond a joke now honestly! Compper Armstrong rogic Wee paddy and now griff! Add to that Moussa constantly Been injured and others have been out! Is this bad luck or is there something else behind it? If rogic and paddy are both out til March we need a creative player brought in ASAP!

Agree4 Disagree2

18 Jan 2018 08:39:52
Unfortunately Rogic has a history of injuries. Like Paddy maybe Comppers is down to lack of game time although he would still have been fit. Injuries happen i can't see training being the issue just maybe down to bad luck. It happens at all Clubs just unfortunate we have 4 or 5 at the same time.

The same is being said about Simunovic Stan.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Jan 2018 12:07:41
It wouldn't bother me if Simunovic was sold as it's more than injuries with him, we can't have players who can only play on grass. Would be a mistake to sell Rogic, fully fit he walks into our starting 11.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jan 2018 14:50:25
It’s the same players who are usually injured, tbh if someone is injured for around half the matches 2 seasons in a row, we should cut our losses and sell them, as clearly, they will never be fit consistently, you also have to wonder how much it suits some of them to be injured, they are mostly multi millionaires and don’t need the hassle of playing here, especially in the winter time, I wouldn’t be surprised if they exaggerate how bad their injuries are.

Agree0 Disagree4

18 Jan 2018 17:59:48
Cjb77 What are you on, the other day you posted it was embarrassing that they (sevco) could outspend us again in the transfer window, they have recruited 4 loanees and recalled two who were on loan deemed not good enough to begin with. Now you are saying players are exaggerating injuries because they don’t want to play in the winter and because they are multi millionaires. Get in touch with the medical team at Celtic Park and inform them that the players injured are at it . Oldkilly.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Jan 2018 21:33:22
Rogic is playing a very crafty game, he is working on the basis of absence makes the heart grow stronger . It's working as far as many of our fans are concerned, I have never seen a Celtic player lauded so much with having played so few games .
Unfortunately B R is likely to move him on when it suits Celtic best.
