Well done to LG on his new 5 year deal. The wee man is exactly the type of player that we need at Celtic. You can tell he loves to wear the hoops and it means a lot to him when he scores! Hail Hail.

Im happy for LG today. there's a good chance he will see the contract through as well. Can only see him kicking on from here, every potential to be one of the great goalscorers for Celtic.

I'm sorry but I think that's far too long a contract for a guy who I hope isn't our first choice striker next season. He'll always do a decent job domestically but just can't be relied upon when the pressure steps up and the quality gets tougher in Europe, misses far too many chances. Decent squad player to have though if our first choice striker gets injured.

But if he's seen as our number 1 striker over the next 5 years then it shows how far our standards have dropped. I mean he's only got two more goals currently in the league than Adam Rooney and rarely nets a brace in the league usually one goal a game.

If he's going to be a back up striker soon and a squad player then I've no problems. But if he's seen as the answer to our striker scoring problems in Europe then we're in trouble.

Aye al agree wi you bhrydobhoy, wouldn't pay to much to celtic forever he or she just likes to rub everyone up wrong way.

Aye domestically Bhrydobhoy, you and I both know the lad ain't capable of it on a bigger stage. He's been given ample opportunity to prove he has and he's also 25 not a youngster so he's just about as good as he'll ever be. Not got it in Europe I don't think I'm being unfair saying that.

Even at 25 i can still see him improving, he seems to be screwing the head off the park. I get the feeling watching his reactions to things on the park that the club is really starting to mean something to him. I see what your saying celticforever he does hit the keeper alot, but he's on target. that's all a coach ever says to a striker. I think and hope he goes on a good run from here and stamps his place.

That's not true at all falkirk bhoy if you want to accept mediocrity that's up to you but I don't and I see Griffiths as first choice striker for the next 5 years if that's the case as just that. As has been said time and time again, it is not difficult to be scoring goals consistantly as a Celtic striker domestically given the amount of opportunities they get a game in comparison to other teams in the league. As I said look at even Adam Rooney only two goals behind domestically playing in a much more inferior side.

It's goals in Europe which concern me and the only game he's convinced me in is Malmo at home where he took both goals well. But, let's be honest, there no great shakes as a side Malmo.

In games against European sides he's got 4 goals in 20 games. 2 of which came in one game. 1 goal in 5 starts in this years Europa league is poor and he had plenty chances he squandered. Plus he had to get two bites at the cherry to score against Fenerbache from only about 5 yards out.

I'm only dealing in facts and they all point to he's not good enough to be our first choice striker in Europe.

Meant to add to my post above. Griffiths goals in Europe are as follows.

Malmo x 2 : Most convinced I've been by him in Europe, took both goals well. Standard of opposition though is poor let's be honest and when we needed him to get a goal in the away leg he wasn't there. In fact he kneed an opposition player right in the baws which he was lucky not to get sent off for and seen us down to 10 men.

Fenerbache x 1 : Right place, right time. Nice poachers goal, but needed two strikes at it from 5 yards out. Decent strikers at that level take it first time.

Stjarnan x 1 : Part time Icelandic mob, no need to explain further.

Failed to score against KR Reykavjik, Dinamo Zagreb, Ajax, Molde, Legia Warsaw, Maribor, Astra, Salzburg, Quarabag and Inter Milan.

Even the most strongest of Griffiths backers can't be confident of that record and us going in to Europe next season with him as number 1 striker.

Once some of us think something is good Celtic for ever almost always says it's bad
Celtic for ever seems to have a very strange view of facts . He ignores the fact that Griffiths did well to get in position and did well to react and get second opposition to convert Fenerbache.
I didn't know that having to take two attempts devalued the goal.

Griffiths has proved me wrong, at least to a point. I always thought he was SPL level, I never thought he could play in the English Premier League, or do it in Europe! I still think he has a good bit to go, I think he could still be stronger and fitter, which will give him at least another 10/20
% - especially playing as a lone striker! I think the whole team could be fitter and stronger, - some of the teams I see every week look far more powerful and aggressive than us! I thought Ronny would make a difference with this, but I've been disappointed so far! We need a centre half in Jan that really is old school, and can terrify strikers. The only cover we have is Ambrose and O'Connell! Boyata did well against St Johnstone, but big deal, that means nothing! There's no point waiting until we're out of Europe and playing with no pressure to have a good game. My biggest concern is I don't know if this team/these players will ever do it on the big stage! They don't seem to have the character. If we played a play off Champions League game tomorrow against the level of team we have been losing to I would not be confident!

Great deal for the wee man. He deserves it done everything that's been asked of him and gives his all. It's the right message from the club too to young bhoys coming through keep head down learn and improve and you will be rewarded.

Totally disagree with celticforever, think if Griffiths is here for 5 years, he will go on to score plenty in Europe, i would be more worried about getting the defence to perform in Europe, when the teams not playing well and Griffiths misses one or two chances, those misses become magnified and suddenly its Griffiths fault that we get beat.

celtic could be using the new contract to drive up any fee offered for LG if any bids come in during the transfer windae.

I'm delighted to see him sign. He, s on his way to 50 goals already. Isn't that better than the collection of duds we have signed pukka, Scepovic, bangers, Rasmussen

More nonsense from Celtic forever criticising players who do produce. By the way if being good enough domestically but not in Europe is good enough for Ronny the why not fir Leigh. RD is certainly not up to scratch for Europe.

Delphic it is a condemnation of our manager that you think we need to be stronger and fitter.
It was his mantra when he came in about fitness, indeed many many posters on here ridiculed the teams fitness, diet etc when he came in.
If anybody thinks we look fitter/stronger since he came needs his head looked at.

Yeah I know Ray! Obviously it takes time but that's a year and a half now. Part of the problem though is the players he's buying - I remember Wenger saying that it's a big part of his criteria, even saying he prefers black players because they are naturally stronger! I also think we have a good few players who really don't have the mindset to be doing extra sessions, eating the correct food at home. That's were Ronny has to be stronger though, not give them the option, simply make them do extra sessions! Looking at the Tottenham team for example, the running they do is incredible. Also fair play to Bournmouth - they know they aren't as good technically, but their players run more than any other team, I think Tottenham are second. Guys like Harry Arter can't get a game for Eire but within the Bournmouth team he is brilliant! There is no excuse for us on that, we don't have much money but we've got grass to run on, sports science and a gym. We need to buy the right players and sort it out! I like a centre half who can pass, but you have to be pragmatic as well. Mourinho's team were poor to watch, but he was successful because he always had a great defence, and a powerful team!

Rayman you know that with the amount of games that we have played from July to mid December 2 games a week / most players away on Int duty impossible for RD and his players to build the level of fitness they all want .
