Great win I think the lads dead on there feet. 10;days without a game.

Elhamed brilliant problem area solved.
I want frimpong to take forests roll at least try it out. Forrest needs competition

Moi man of the match he was more in the middle with a free role.

Lenny could have made subs around 60 min mark but he knows best.

Julien still clumsy and messing around in the panalty box putting pressure on goalie and defence.

All in all pass marks for everyone but we need Moi and elhamed to stay injury free all season.

That must have been the easiest European opponents since I went to The FC Kokkolla game and we could have had 9 again easily.
Having said that; we played at a terrific tempo in the first half, great inter-passing and movement, although maybe tried to walk it in rather than shoot more at a nervy goalie.
El Hamed, Moi, Broony (for his hour) and Barkas - who had to act smart-ish a few times due to defensive lapses, were all excellent.
I also thought he would have made changes at HT or just after, with the tie over, but he does seem to like the 60+ min changes.
Ntcham was majestic for his half hour or so and it would be a shame to lose him as he has qualities others do not have.
The lack of match-continuity did show in the second half at times but we still managed to control the game and score three more.
Got to be happy with that tonight, but we need to make full use of the squad with these 5 subs allowance to help avoid injuries?

I was at the Kokkolla game as well Celtic_mad. Think that was big Roy's home European debut at 16 years of age. Can remember Paul Wilson having a stormer that night.

What is Lennon all about? Game over at halftime and he has only used 1 sub up until the 67th minute.
It's OK saying players need match sharpness but so does the backup guys and what if someone gets injuree.

There back up for a reason
Some people will find any excuse to moan.

Seasons only just started obviously trying to get minutes in the legs for players to get them up to speed.

19 Aug 2020 00:25:21
I'm not moaning and yes they are back ups for a reason but if we get 1 or 2 injuries we will be relaying on these "backups" to go straight in and get us wins.
What's the point in risking injury to major players when the game was won by half time and you can use 5 subs.
It's going to be a long hard season and everyone on here said that it was great that we can use 5 subs as we have the biggest and best squad and the manager isn't using it.

Johnboy you are moaning, just enjoy winning and leave the tactics a d substitutions to Lennon and the Celtic backroom staff. They know more than you and anyone of us about the skill set and fitness of their players.

Peter sign Duffy and McLean from Free Derry and I will no longer grudge my families £2k commitment to Celtic or the fact that we've paid that only to to watch us on the wan feckn telly. after 4 months of no wages. I bet you were paid. A club like no other. prove it Peter.

JFP1888, £2000 is a huge amount to pay out agreed. If you didn't want to and keep that money for something else, you could and should have. Peter Lawell is not interested in your views so get used to it and don't spend money that you begrudge. You will feel lot happier in life.

Interesting team selection. Players who have been in poor form like Christie and Broony retain their spot while Frimpong and Ajer drop out.

That's usual for Lennon, just go back to his first stint as manager to see that he would never drop his pals no matter how bad they played.

Agree0 Disagree1

18 Aug 2020 22:12:46
To be fair; Broony was outstanding - even tho the opposition was amateur. However, I do think NL is very reluctant to drop his favourites or indeed make changes early-doors when required and this happened at Killie and will happen again, if he doesn't learn?

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2020 14:35:01
Jonbhoy71. I doubt if NL picks his pals to play . It’s more likely he picks the players he trusts best to get result for him. These may be different than what u think . He doesn’t risk his reputation and job by playing his pals.

What's a secret service codename?, that everyone knows who it belongs to.
Good result tonight, couldn't watch, as I was driving, listened on the radio, how did Barkas do?, Julien was getting criticized, for one or two 'slips', he will need to improve.

This might seem like a daft question, but do away goals still count in the one legged qualifiers?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

18 Aug 2020 18:17:11
That's a great question that I've heard nothing about since they decided on this format. Possibly it would still be a factor if the game ends in a draw?

I’m sure it’s extra time and penalties and will be played to a finish tonight.

No away goals don't count until the playoff game. As they are all one off games till then.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Aug 2020 19:16:09
I get that they are one off playofff games, but Celtic have the advantage of playing at home so it would make sense that the away team has the advantage of the away goals rule.

Celtics potential champions league opponents in the 3rd and qualifying rounds should we make it past the first 2. One game at a time and without getting ahead of ourselves, incase anyone is interested.

Providing the favourites from each game played make it through this is the strongest opposition we could currently face.

3rd qualifying round, (Young boys, Red star belgrade, Qarabag, Legia warsaw, maccabi tel aviv, molde)

Play off round, (Dinamo zagreb, astana, slavia prague, ludogorets razgrad)

Some tricky away ties mark in the 3rd qualifying round especially as I think they are just over 1 match 😓 fingers crossed for a home tie 👍.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Aug 2020 15:00:38
This time last year I didn’t think Celtic were ready to play Slavia Prague in the Playoffs. That proved to be correct because we couldn’t get passed Cluj.
But this time last season 3 out of our back 4 were new signings.
Now I feel we have a more settled team and if we get to play in the latter qualifying rounds Celtic will be ready because we will have a few more games under our belts.
A few of the other leagues have not started up yet and are still at their pre-season stage and that could also go in our favour.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Aug 2020 16:40:05
I can't see us getting past most of them going on our record in Europe. In all honesty I'm not that fussed. Also bored having the same teams in the qualifiers every season. Europe just doesn't do it for me anymore.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Aug 2020 16:43:29
Our players have not had a chance to get any momentum going yet, but tonight gives us a chance to get back to winning ways and hopefully play like they did in the last home game (especially second half) .
I'm sure they are raring to go after Boli-Bawz and JF usually stands out in the early qualifiers; so I hope he scores tonight?

JULIEN AJER

ELHAMED TAYLOR
BROWN

FORREST McGREGOR CHRISTIE MOI

EDOURD

This is my team. i don't think there's a need for 2 sitting midfielders and personally think it takes a big part of McGregors game away and elhamed gives us more steel whilst just playing the 1 sitting midfeilder and those in front of brown have got the legs to get back in not to mention they are all a goal threat.

That looks a good starting 11.I would give Kamalyia and Dembele a run out after 60 mins and use the other 3 subs when he wants providing no injury scares.
I think Lenny really missed a trick against Killie by not using the subs better as we have the strongest squad and it must be a huge advantage against teams of this calibre.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Aug 2020 10:21:55
For some reason he always waits until at least 63 minutes to make tactical substitutions and with five now available, it gives us every opportunity to alter things earlier, still keeping some in reserve?
That would be a very good team and I'd love Ntcham to start; but I think he will play Broony and probably Frimpong as per usual.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Aug 2020 11:40:26
I really like the way Frimpong goes forward but it seems to lessen the impact Forrest has on games. Elhamed is a better defender in my view so I would rather play him and let Forrest do the attacking.
I think in the long run we would be stronger defensively although hopefully it won't matter too much tonight.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Aug 2020 12:20:08
Bit presumptuous to think we can throw on the young ones after an hour think ad wait to see how the game goes.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Aug 2020 13:00:39
Think they might be dangerous opponents, this isn't a normal home game, without a crowd, it depends on what team can keep their motivation and concentration, it is asking for trouble writing this team off.

I think our manager will stick with the same line up but Gerryc does make a good point about playing Elhamad and letting Forrest work his magic on the wing.
Instead of Forrest moving inside and making room for Frimpong on his outside.
