Cheers ED, i do remember the name from the UTD Era, but never paid much attention to him and the EPL.

{Ed007's Note - 👍

Sorry if this sounds ignorant ED, can you tell me how good a player powell is please? i don't know much about him thanks!

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - if Rodgers could get inside Powell's head and get him focused he would be a sensational player for us, he made the wrong choice going to Man Utd (Neil Lennon tried to bring him here at the same time) but he should he playing at a higher level than Wigan.
Powell's a genuine talent that I've watched a good fair bit of over the years since the NL interest and Ed001 raving about him when I asked about him at the time - even last month when we were talking about Powell coming to Celtic, Ed001 said that Powell is one of the best, if not THE best technically gifted players to ever come through Crewe's academy - and that's some achievement when you consider Crewe have had one of the top academies in England for years under Dario Gradi - and that he would be a great signing for us.}

17 Sep 2018 22:23:17
Any idea Ed
what type of money we’re talking about here, valuation, wages, availability?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - During the last window it was rumoured that it would take at least £6 million to get Wigan even interested in selling. He's out of contract next summer so he is available but wages etc I've no idea, especially if he came on a free next summer.}

17 Sep 2018 23:37:10
Just for information, as I don't know anything about Crewes academy, what other players of note have came through it?

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Sep 2018 08:19:17
Lennon came through it.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Danny Murphy, Robbie Savage, Seth Johnson come to mind.}

18 Sep 2018 10:02:01
Stan Bowles came through Crewe’s academy. oldkilly.

If we are after Powell then I hope we sign him before Aston Villa find out.

18 Sep 2018 16:45:28
Apologies regarding Stan Bowles he started his career with Man City then bury before Crewe.

Crewe had a fantastic reputation for decades at bringing through tremendous talent, probably best in UK, but in recent times their reputation has been tarnished somewhat and whether more exciting prospects come through is debatable .

Ed said if Brendan can get through to Powell's mind we have some player .
I think this is true of about 75% of decent EPL, Championship and even SPL players, most have the strength and skill but lack in self discipline and desire to be the best they can . I wonder is that the problem with Kuoassi, and is this the strength of K Tierney and how many of our younger players are in between the determined T and the laid back K.

How did we ever win all those titles cups and CL with all the refs against us lol.

By being much better than we would've needed to be under normal circumstances.

Ray an. I suspect most Celtic fans would ask how many more titles and cups would Celtic have won given impartial referees.

17 Sep 2018 23:58:36
Refereeing mistakes are part and parcel of the game, it's all part of the show business, it gives you something to cling to if your team hasn't played well, and you can blame the referee in an attempt to camouflage your team's shortcomings, all supporters of all teams do it, Celtic and The rangers supporters seem to be the most paranoid, but it is easy for a referee to make a mistake, when you think about how things happen in a split second, and the ref has to make a decision there and then, some people go over the top in their critiscimn of referees, yes, I am talking about you, Old man Chris, but I would keep my critiscimn for that three man panel of fools, who have more than a split second and still make the most rediculous decisions.

Everyone is aware of that Aindoh, even those it seems that are relying on SMSM radio broadcasting, which isn't always quick to point out pro Sevco mistakes or anti Celtic .
I and imagine most that really find fault look at the game as a whole, if I notice one team getting continuous soft fouls and avoiding cards compared to their opponents treated the opposite, I think of bias and corruption .
Now our compliance set up is cleverly pre- designed to come up with the required outcome . That is just the way it is.

Ed a lot of reports today stating Celtic are set to offer Nick Powell a contract in the January window. I'm sure you mentioned a couple of weeks back he was a top target for us. Do you know if there is anything these stories and what stopped any potential deal during the summer? I think the lad is a decent player.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Basically Wigan didn't want to sell Powell. I think if Dembele had made known his intention to leave earlier we would have pushed Wigan and yes we'll be back in January trying to get some kind of deal done.}

Dembele, Roberts and Armstrong out the first team. Massive lost to our team and no quality replacement.

On the bright side the bank balance is very healthy and the Celtic plc will get their bonuses.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

17 Sep 2018 09:21:22
Them getting their bank balance related bonus is the only thing that helps me hang on. Ntcham and Boyata will be off too. If we want any money in for him and let’s face it, Lawell needs cash in to ensure his goody bag next year he will be sold in January. If he doesn’t go then Lawells failure to replace him will cause us losing millions to add tonthevtens if millions he has already cost us.

He should be sacked never mind rewarded for abject failure.

As I’ve said before, McGinn will move on for millions to add to that total of loss. But, remember Defabet deal and the Disco lights. Where would we be without them? Phew!

I know we can seem ungrateful/ unappreciative of the success we have achieved under BR and we wouldn't swap a minute of it and will never forget the 'Invincibles' and the 'Double-Treble' winners and obviously hope we carry on wining trophies, breaking records and creating history.
However, there is absolutely no doubt that the manager is being let-down in his quest to keep improving and building this Celtic team in the way he has repeatedly professed .
The start to this season has been inconsistent to say the least, with CL disappointment, a transfer window which failed to replace lost quality and indeed - missing out on 'stick-on' target' the Boyata situation disrupting the squad and losing a last day asset.
The timing of the International break was bad luck, just as we had put two impressive performances together, but the last three months have no-doubt affected consistency and confidence, resulting in patchy performances, with players 'not at it' and a lack fluency, creativity and goals.
There is nothing we can do about adding quality, for the time being, but there is a lot the players can do, to improve their attitude, sharpness and application and prove a point to everyone.

good post once a bhoy. Not talking about directors bonuses etc. I don't know how many, if any, players we approached and were given a polite "No but thank you for showing your interest but playing in the SPL is not really what I hoped for. " Even mickey mouse teams in England can offer more money and give a bigger display window.
Personally, I don't believe we have not tried to get players.
Did we try hard enough? I don't know. But a player wanting to move is not worth the disruption.
Sadly, the days of any honour among contracts has long gone. The vast majority of players are inj it for what they can get (I am not saying its wrong) .
However, some of our "Invincibles" have just not got into gear yet and when they do. someone is in for a mauling.
(I am not naive enough to think we don't need to strengthen but WHO? McGinn knew what he was doing and professing a love for Celtic was nice to hear but if it were true he would be at Celtic Park now. he played a good game and got a move down south.
The rest, we all know about.

Ok magicpole we get it, you don’t like Peter Lawwell (note the spelling) we are all disappointed we never managed to get certain players during the summer. You’re posts are becoming repetitive and boring. As I said, we are all disappointed with the transfer window business but we don’t rant on regarding it. I noticed when we beat rangers recently everything was okay, now when we draw with St Mirren Peter Lawwell gets it from you, for goodness sake give it a rest. oldkilly.

I never said everything was ok. I said it should have been 4. Just bypass anything I put up. You don’t dictate what I can feel and write as I wouldn’t with you. The problems caused will be long term if something isn’t done. My post was a reaction to OMC saying we should name a Stand after cheapskate. I gave a few possible names I think would sum him up.

We still haven't won 4 League games in a row for over a year. We have won 9 out of the last 18 home games which is dire. From this week onwards hopefully we hit some form and start fireing on all cylinders.

What's the prize for winning four league games in a row .? Do the SPL put up a special bonus of £1m or more for achieving 4. In a row .
I thought the goal in the league is to finish at the end with more points than any other team in the league, somehow or other we have managed that for our last 7 seasons so we seem to have the knack of winning the league ok .
