Just watched the Celtic TV interview with Damian Duff there. Really enjoyed listening to his views. He talks a lot of sense and very down to Earth. I always liked him as a player and would have loved it if he had played for us, but I think he could be a real blessing to our club as a coach now. Good luck to him, and Big Mick too.

Agree he's had a good career and a Celtic man through and through. He's one the youngsters can look up too.

BBC QUOTE "Former Scotland centre-half Stephen McManus is hoping to save Celtic "millions of pounds" in his new role as the club's under-18s coach. " That'll maybe help to replace the Millions of Pounds he and Defensive Partner Gary Caldwell (only ever played well in a Scotland shirt) cost Celtic, including us going out of The Champions League 2-1 against Aalborg in November 2008 because of an own goal by EACH of them . . . Do we really need our Young Players being influenced by this man . . .

Believable0 Unbelievable0

16 Jan 2019 20:29:00
He was also the guy that won 7 major honours with the club.
3 titles
2 SC
2 LC
On too of that helped the team qualify for last 16 of champions league TWICE.

16 Jan 2019 20:33:42
Very poor comment. McManus was a good player and captain for Celtic. Strachan who was a captain himself, seen great qualities to make young Stephen at the time, the man to lead his team.
He comes across as a gentleman and leader and the youngsters will look up to him.
I wish them all the best for the future.

Agree11 Disagree1

16 Jan 2019 20:38:10
Bloody Nora, he was a solid captain and young players would learn plenty. Not the most gifted centre back we’ve ever had but that doesn’t mean he’s not a decent coach. European and international experience and you want to hang him out to dry for an own goal?
There are some fickle fans on here right enough.

Agree9 Disagree1

16 Jan 2019 20:44:59
Why would we subject our youth players to the advice of a title winning captain who knows exactly what it takes to come through the youth ranks and into the first team? I'll see your Aalborg OG and raise you scoring in our only ever win against AC Milan, one of the all-time great clubs and great Celtic Park European nights.

Nonsense big guy ran through walls for our club.

Agree3 Disagree1

16 Jan 2019 21:23:55
McManus wore his heart on his sleeve and always put his head in where it hurt. He'd probably be the first to admit to having his limits, but he always gave his all for the cause. The youngsters will learn plenty from this good Celtic man.

Agree3 Disagree1

16 Jan 2019 21:44:12
I can't believe what I just read. Very harsh on a man who gave his all for our club. A decent, solid defender with great leadership qualities. I couldn't understand why Mowbray was so quick to get him out the door. I wasn't bothered about Gary "50p Heed" Caldwell going, but I liked Mick and I'm glad he's back in this capacity. Good luck to him.

Agree2 Disagree1

16 Jan 2019 21:57:31
I think you are falling into the trap of thinking a brilliant player makes a brilliant coach, a not so brilliant player understands the hard work and dedication that is needed to play at the highest level, he can probably empathise and spot something in a player that maybe a bit of application and encourage ment will bring out, only time will tell, don't think Jock Stein was that brilliant as a player.

Agree4 Disagree0

17 Jan 2019 00:04:17
Can't believe anyone is even having to comment on this post to defend McMannus the guy was rock solid and he's a good acquisition to the coaching staff. I'm sure plenty of players will look up to him as he had a good career with us.

17 Jan 2019 01:10:50
Think you'll find Caldwell and McManus were a pretty solid partnership until we introduced that bomb scare Loovens in between them.

ED see if a player has agreed a deal but is waiting for work permit etc can they still train with their new team?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I'd imagine so or they might use a temporary one - trialists etc must need something too - but they won't be allowed to play.}

17 Jan 2019 17:44:43
I thought I read somewhere that they couldn't train as that's work. Could have been another country though Although they could be ways round it by not getting paid and training.

I know some people were talking about jersey numbers for the new bhoys and have just seen on the official site that Burke will wear 25, Weah got 30 but nothing on Bayo. Personally, I don't think it means much but if Weah was going to be an 18 month, think we would have offered 7 or 10. Those numbers mean a lot at paradise and at psg.

Keeping 7 for Paddy coming back in the summer I heard 😉.

Ed007. Do you have any info on James McCarthy mate? Understandable if you can't/ don't want to given the personal attachment. Or is it just groundhog day with the column filler?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed007's Note -If Ntcham pushes for a move then the Club will step up their pursuit of McCarthy.}

16 Jan 2019 19:41:47
Cheers Ed 👍.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - 👍

16 Jan 2019 19:45:08
If Ntcham did push for the move, is it really a position we would need to bring another player in for? CM has been sublime in that position and with Christie and rogic, as well as the new signings being able to slot in further forward, surely we could use the money to invest in a new cb? Possibly benkovic? Or another cb proven at a decent level? What are your thoughts Ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I'm not getting into another McCarthy debate mate, there's nothing I can say that I haven't said during every previous window for years.}

16 Jan 2019 20:31:08
I was really impressed with Ntcham last season and thought he 'had the lot' as far as midfield players go; but he has really disappointed this season - and I know the Dembele situation was a catalyst - but his attitude and performances have been lacking.
It's a shame because he could have been a star here, but like so many seems to see us as a stepping stone to bigger and brighter?
However, few actually fulfill their ambitions and end up journeymen.
I would worry about McCarthy's injury problems if he was a target and would be happier if we looked at Scandinavia or Europe as we have faced a few talented players in Europe recently and the price/ wages might be well within our budget.

Agree1 Disagree0

16 Jan 2019 12:07:13
Ed how do you see the next 2 games going against the sevies? I would like to see us destroy them at both Celtic Park and ibrokes.

Also Ed do you think there will be much of a gap at the top of the league at the end of the season when we have won another title?

Believable3 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - We'll hump them and win the league by at least 8/10 points.}

16 Jan 2019 22:01:35

16 Jan 2019 22:32:52
If someone took time to fake that then they've got serious issues. See these American bhoys they're the type of signing we wouldn't even have heard of if it wasn't for social media, they're development players. They would've got a mention in the celtic view. Am not expecting to see them for a long time.

Most of the time i can understand { if not agreed with} our transfer policy. However some decisions over the last year have left me perplexed.
We bought Hendry when we could have had Mckenna for the same price {he had yet to sign a new contract}
We resigned Issaguirre when he was quite old for an attacking fullback this is also true of Hayes.
Commper was brought in for experience when he was known to be old and slow something that could be said of Shievcenko.
We refused 9 million for player who was in the last year of his contract stating clearly that he was going to leave this money could have been reinvested in a quality replacement
None of these decisions made any business sence at the time and i wonder if PL and John Park { had he still been chief scout} would have agreed to these had not BR insisted on this.

So going by the past few days we are set to sign McKenna, Richards, Sol, Yaya, McCarthy Janssen, Wanyama, Kanon, Mbemba, Kodjia, Maja. May have missed a few but this site has become ridiculous of late I can imagine Eds eye rolling at all the rumours. We will be lucky to sign another 2 with the size of the squad we have at the minute.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

16 Jan 2019 13:52:08
In over 50 years supporting the Bhoys, I've never seen us linked with so many players, it's ridiculous. I realise that most of it is utter sh. te but still. Brendan will surely know what we need in the player department, and we would like to think that groundwork on the priority positions have already been done since the summer. If not, it's going to end in tears for someone at the club. Let's keep the faith Bhoys and Ghirls. Football's back Saturday and hopefully get off to a flying start and go on a lengthy winning run and leave the pretenders in our slip stream. Hail hail.

I wouldn't say ridiculous. The site is called Celtic Rumours not Celtic 100% verified information. You've got to take it all with a large pinch of salt. How dare people post rumours on a rumours forum eh Bravetart? If you don't like them don't read them simple solution.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jan 2019 19:46:12
I think what she’s getting at is that they’re largerly unsubstantiated pish as opposed to speculation based on a genuine comment from a players agent or a meeting that actually happened. For example a lazy hack asks a player a question like ‘Do you see a move to Celtic as a possibility’? Player answers ‘I wouldn’t rule it out’, which is really a polite way to avoid saying ‘Don’t be so stupid, they couldn’t afford me’ Next thing you know the rag has a headline saying ‘Toure to sign for Celtic’! It’s tedious and doesn’t even relieve the boredom of the winter break, so I have to agree with Bravetart.

Have you ever noticed how in the humzn psychology the best way to motivate man to do something is to tell him that he can and vice versa. I am more and more convinced that hostory will show that one man more than all others helped Celtic fc achieve the immortal 10 in a row and it wasn't Scott Brown nor Brendan Rogers nor even Peter Lawell no Celtics greatest inspiration came from the motivational talks on KRIS BOYD. May God bless the Kilmarnock benchwarmer for all he does for us.

I think Rodgers will have his sights set on a bigger club the Leicester when he does move on but I can't see that being for a while yet.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jan 2019 10:31:07
I think this is a big wake up call, for all those that ignore what's actually happening currently, the mob have a manager there committed to help knock us of 10 in a row, with backing from certain newspapers and sly sports to name but a few. If your not worried about our title challenge this year then at least think about it next year! Players come to us because of BR and know he can help them push on, if he goes without having the correct successor in place then I'm afraid we are in for a bit of a shock. Players will get up and look for more lucrative contracts from lesser teams down south, why? Because the manager did and they will follow suit.

The board better seriously back BR in transfer windows and get on board with what he is trying to develop at this club.
We want bhoys coming through the academy being the back bone of this team, with exciting prospects joining the club, developing and then us making a profit and on to the next one, but ensuring the back bone stays strong

BR will obviously depart at some point but we want him departing on good terms with a good team left for a new manager to work with, far too many gaps right now in the squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jan 2019 12:29:21
Brendan Rodgers like any top sports person has an ego and strong character. He is a Celtic fan and personally I feel he craves being the guy to get to 10 in a row and legendary status at the club he loves. He isn’t old and has years ahead of him to go to so called bigger leagues and clubs so if a Leicester or any other middle of the road premier club comes in I feel he will decline their offers? He wants a statue outside park head. Let’s enjoy him while he is here and stop listening to the sevco sympathising press wishing Brendan or any other top stars we have leaving for pastures new! HH here we go 8 in a row 🙂🍀 🏆🏆🏆.

Agree1 Disagree0

16 Jan 2019 12:38:13
What gives u the impression Gerrard is committed to stopping the 10? Do u think if someone from England comes calling he won't go? He doesn't have the emotional attachment Rodgers has to celtic. When exactly have the board not backed Rodgers? Do u not think the board are on the same page as Rodgers with the plan that u said, why wouldn't they be, that's the way to make money. We've got more academy players in the squad than at any time since I started going to games 20 odd years ago.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jan 2019 13:19:14
I think Gerrard will be there for a couple seasons, he needs to build his reputation and I think jumping ship after 1-2 seasons, unless a top club came sniffing for him, would not leave a good impression.
If BR has been backed by the board for signings and chose Hendry, Gamboa and Compper as his top list of defence reinforcements then the man is clearly not a great talent spotter. Hendry might prove us wrong but not the other 2.
I think to be fair it's the same amount of youth players coming through as in the past like mcgeady Wallace odea error.
I think we have the potential to field more if they were given more of a chance than some of the absolute rubbish so have signed.

Haven't seen anyone post on here how much toure would be no just a good but f##king great signing. 35 yo OK. Not played much football OK. High wages OK. However I am as much of a fan of being a no retirement home/ end your Career ter at a special club as the rest of you but seriously folks yaya toure? Yaya toure? You would turn down a guy like toure purely because of what? Age or wage? We've never broken the structure for anyone and we certainly won't start now, your a fool to question his ability even at 35 he played in Greece and terminated a contract through mutual agreement because he wasn't happy. Out of all the veterans that have used our club to end there career, more apparent die hard celtic fans, for eg Keane, Robbie Keane. And those once upon a timers eg ljungberg junhino, Wright. Yaya has more trophies and talent than all combined, I'd concentrate your negativity on those who don't want to be at the club than those who might want to. Boyata thinks he's someone pmsl, get relegated son, enjoy losing week in week out if money is you passion u deserve nothing less, yaya is a winner CL la liga EPL OR SPL Trophys, winning is winning, I'd rather be a league 2 champion than a Premier ship second choice flop.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

16 Jan 2019 08:40:54
The thing is though are we going to delay Calmac or Christie's development for 6/ 12/ 18 months just to give a 35 year old a swansong? Or would a 35 year old Yaya Toure who's won countless major honours and played at the highest level be happy sitting on the bench? I don't think this suits both parties👍.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jan 2019 09:35:38
No way we should even be entertaining this. Yaya was a brilliant footballer but he's a midfielder and he's 35. He might look after himself but there's no way he would keep up the pace in our league. He would end up as a very expensive sub.
Its a big no from me.

Robbie Keane was 29 when he came to Celtic so don't know why your using his name.
