I thought there was a lot of good things about today's performance, although sometimes its frustrating when they try to score the perfect goal when putting the laces through the ball is required. I enjoy watching playing from the back and keeping the ball but does anybody else agree with the pace up front we have especially Dembele, every now and then a quick long ball from defence over the last defender might reap rewards. There was times today when the space behind Motherwells defence was begging for a quick punt!

Thought we played really well. the motherwell keeper had a great game but another outstanding display from young kieran. best fullback from the great Danny mcgrain.

We are definitely playing at a higher tempo, this season than we have for a very long time . I have felt for decades if we play at a high tempo we can compete with any team . Typical of how we are playing was Dembele stretching his legs and forcing the penalty in the 87th minute .

What I also liked was that the three players brought in who haven't played consistently fitted in seamlessly and could fill in if needed.

Another three points always the priority but maybe lost a bit of our momentum due to that pain of an international break.
Huge week ahead and although the CL game is very important I hope we have the resolve and energy to hammer that mob at Hamden next weekend.
Europe is always a bonus, but domestic dominance and trophies is what hurts our rivals and detractors more and gives the players and support more pleasure.

seriously,

would rather guarantee European football after Christmas than be in the league cup final.

It's a tough one tbh because I'd love a treble.

Half time I wish we had gone out of the league Cup in our first game . My thinking is that this is Brendan Rodger's first season at Celtic and obviously next season and following seasons we should be getting stronger and stronger and that's the timescale that we should put Brendan to test . This season a double domestically ( Scottish Cup and league ) and European football after Christmas, should satisfy us all. The League Cup been played before Christmas is probably the biggest danger to a great season . Fixture congestion between now and Christmas will really test us .
However we are where we are and we really have to beat the new boys next Sunday and put them in their place . Not necessary a difficult task but nevertheless a daunting enough game as it is a must win.

There was a time when we seriously competed in Europe and I have been very fortunate to have watched us in three finals.
However, in the current format and financial disadvantage - and our long history of poor 'away' form, it is highly unlikely we will ever see another Lisbon, San Siro or Seville and with that in mind, I have to say trophies and domestic success all day long - with a fair sprinkling of Celtic Park CL parties along the way - until (maybe one day) the playing field is a lot fairer?

Definitely cup final, Europe means nothing after qualifiers only money, the big boys have rigged the cl, winning it means nothing , the elite clubs just take turns each .

I wish we'd gone out the league cup in our first game! U really do have to wonder about some people honestly! Utter Shoite! Brendan will clear up this season, starting with the league cup! Like Kev said, bring on the treble!

As much as I'd like it, and as much as I think we're getting towards a position to totally dominate the domestic scene, I would never demand/ expect a treble.

When did we adopt the philosophy of superstition? That by not winning one thing will lead to, or increase the chances of success in another area?

When did this happen?

There is no balancing force in the universe that divies things up.

"Oh look, the Tic beat sevco that means I will need to make them go out before Christmas. "

That doesn't happen. It had never happened.

We want to win everything, if we fail, we don't or shouldn't think, ah well, we brought that on ourselves by rousing the wrath of the great even upper super being that loves fitba.

We will win or lose on how we play each game and not how we fared in previous games.

We should win the treble, but as we all know that's harder to achieve than state and only time will tell.

Fitba isn't an either or. It's fitba.

Sometimes I wonder are we Glasgow Celtic supporters or are we glory hunters . It's a pleasure and a joy following Celtic this season with one notable exception when we were over run the second half in Barcelona . I too have had the leasure of three European finals but I cannot say I derived much pleasure out of the second final after hearing from J Stein that our opponents were weak . As it turned out there was a weak team out there but it wasn't the Dutch team . That year it was the two games against Leeds in the Semi final who gave me the most pleasure . I have enjoyed and hope to enjoy again epic European ties and campaigns that don't necessarily finish with us playing in the final . We have won a number of trebles during my time so unimportant that I don't remember how many . We have won more League Cups, again so important I don't remember how many . I don't lie in bed when I can't sleep trying to recall great League Cup Victories.

so old bhoy u won't be celebrating when wee put the ball in the onion bag Sunday have a day off.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Oct 2016 19:43:57
Ah wee Craigy white, wise up, nowhere did I say anything like the nonsense u r insinuating, if u read my previous post I said that Sunday's game was a game we really had to win, a must win game.
What I tried to say was we could enjoy success in Europe and remember it without winning or reaching the final.
Getting to the final or even winning the League Cup, won't be remembered in five yrs time .
My worry about the League Cup is that the extra games involved could be the straw that puts us out of Europe before Christmas . We have had a very tough programme of games and from now to the end of the year is even tougher, made worse by a useless League Cup that carries no reward.

Agree0 Disagree1

16 Oct 2016 23:12:35
Why can't we have both.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Oct 2016 17:13:28
We are pushing the team to the limit . I feel strongly as this is B R first year, I think the four less games by not competing in the League cup, would stand to us in Europe ( playing in Europe in Spring ) help us in the SPFL and keep us fresher for Scottish Cup .
Now we have to put more at risk because of the useless L C.

JP has gone, can we expect PL to follow at end of season ed?
What lies ahead? PL is not everyone's favourite but I feel that we may look back and regret it if he also leaves without an equal replacement to fight our cause beyond Scottish boundaries.
Whats your thougts.

{Ed007's Note - I wouldn't be at all surprised to see it announced at some point that Lawwell is leaving at the end of the season. I'd be more surprised if he was still here next season as the Club restructures behind the scenes.}

15 Oct 2016 13:59:26
I wonder if he'll be remembered fondly after he's gone. He's rightly received a lot of stick for his failure to invest in the first team at times but he'll leave us in a fantastic position financially and he's done great work in "promoting the brand" as he calls it.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I have no doubts that if Lawwell had stuck to doing what he does best he would be held in a much higher regard by the support. When it comes to the financial side of the game he is peerless in Scottish football and has done a magnificent job for us in that respect.}

15 Oct 2016 14:19:50
He has done a great job on the financial side but like Ed alluded to he has lead the fans down the garden path on the playing side of things. More than once he has spoken about 6 million pound players and cheaped out when it came to the crunch.

Basically his BS reeks as bad as Skinnybhoys.

15 Oct 2016 16:51:02
I'm sure someone posted on the forum that he heard Lawwell was leaving at the end of the season and the current manager from Glasgow Airport is taking over from him.

How true that is remains to be seen.

While I don't like Lawwell on account of him having a go at fans from time to time, there is no denying that he has done a good job in his tenure with regards our finances.

I personally won't be celebrating his departure if this turns out to be true, until I see who is replacing him.

15 Oct 2016 17:48:38
Forget to say in last post.

One of the things I admire most about Lawwell is his ability to strike deals and get what is best for Celtic. He has done this time and time again with commercial deals and player transfers, not to mention the fact that he has been great at opening new markets for Celtic and thus increasing our income.

15 Oct 2016 18:41:48
In my opinion lawwel will be a big lose to our club if and when team goes.

15 Oct 2016 18:45:48
Lawwell's ability may only be recognised years after he is gone . Lawwell didn't suffer fools lightly and was never afraid of taking the unpopular decision, if he thought it was the correct one . How many other people wouldn't have been tempted to go the Rangers route of EBT's when he and the Celtic Board were put under unbearable pressure to keep up with the free - spending Rangers . I remember when all our fans will calling for his Head and blaming him for not matching Rangers spending . Ed has alluded to him taking on other roles than his Financial duties, but surely that was lack of guidance and lack of control by the Board who probably allowed one man too much responsibilities and too much power . I don't think we can blame P Lawwell for that, it's a human thing to become power greedy and power hungry.

Agree1 Disagree2

15 Oct 2016 18:50:59
Whos likely to succeed him if he leaves then Ed? Or rather who would you like to see in his job next season?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I couldn't even guess mate, how many people had heard of Pedro before he rolled up his heated driveway? I'd imagine it will be someone from a business background that most of us won't have a clue about.
What Rab says rings a bell, someone posted that it was a woman that runs an airport.}

15 Oct 2016 19:53:44
There was also rumours about someone who is/ was at Norwich.

With John Park gone and us have no idea of the qualities and job description of his replacement, it may be better to make haste slowly with replacing P Lawwell . To have 3 new people in those key positions within 12 months may be too soon .
It will probably be necessary to replace Lawwell but maybe better in 2018 rather than 2017.
