So apparently John Collins will be the new Asst Mgr n John Kennedy will be 1st Team Coach? Pish. Ronny should've been allowed to pick his own men, n I very doubt these were his choices!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Don't know what's pish about it?

i would have thought that if they were forced on him they would have been announced last week. Maybe just maybe he has interviewed both and liked what he seen / heard. But I maybe wrong. At least give them a chance. that's all I am saying.

Agree0 Disagree0

I just don't believe for a minute that a man from Norway would come to Scotland demanding a guy in his 40s who's playing for his local team and a 30 yr old youth coach as his backroom staff without them being force fed to him by someone above at Celtic?! Ronny was a cheap option, but he's an exciting cheap option. JC + JK is just sheer lack of ambition, neither bring a great deal of experience.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jun 2014 09:21:25
How do you know these weren't Ronny's picks. As far as I'm lead to believe he's been talking with JC for weeks persuading him.

Agree0 Disagree0

He's been rubbish everywhere he has been as a manager I don't see him doing yeese any good I know he's assistant but his head is up his own arse always has been

Agree0 Disagree0

HB he needs someone with a knowledge of the Scottish game who knows the oppositions strengths and weaknesses plus who at his old club could provide this knowledge, anyway JC is every bit as qualified as some of the coaches who have just left never mind some that are getting mentioned

Agree0 Disagree0

John collins= total joke.

Lawell, shove yer season ticket up yer ar*e!

Agree0 Disagree0

JC had a great playing career, no doubt about it. But that ended over 10 yrs ago! Since then he spent little over a year as manager at Hibs winning the League Cup, 6 months in Belgium as Charleroi's manager in a relegation battle then a year at Livingston as DOF (where he fell out with the board) before going back to playing for a non-league side last season. In between those jobs he's been a pundit on ssn. JK was a highly rated youngster who was unfortunately injured by a horrific tackle on his Scotland debut after only playing a handful of games for Celtic then forced to retire on medical grounds after several failed comebacks, since 2009 he's been a European scout for Celtic and helped out Stephen Frail at U20s level. I just don't think that either brings a great deal of coaching experience?

Agree0 Disagree0

Why is this getting everybody hot and bothered I could be ronnys ass Mngr next season and we will still win everything domestically. Out of everybody mentioned he is every bit as good if not better, plus has the experience of playing at a higher level than any of them, and that could be vital for European games. As I've stated Mjallby had very little coaching experience and he did ok.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ah good day DN, oh how I missed your positive thinking posts lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

If as many people say give ronny a chance then why not give Collins a chance? It's the assistant manager job after all not the managers job. If it doesn't work out he can always be replaced just like if ronny doesn't work he can be replaced also.
Doubt you'll be missed dn30 if your support is anything like your post, I like most support the team not the man!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Come on Jimmy, support the team not the man!!! Most of the fans who helped turn the club into a sideshow to NL's ego trip and denied the team was falling apart while snapping up every bit of tat with his image on it. A hell of a lot of supporters supported NL over the team and allowed their man crush to blur their view of the footballing side of things, and now it's happening with Collins, go on the Hibs page and see what the fans think of him.
If Delia and Collins fall out there are fans who will take Collins side simply because he played for us.}

Rayman, realistically he is not good enough. It is going to be interesting how scott brown will react after their massive fallout at hibs. Personally my choice would of been someone like joe jordan

Agree0 Disagree0

Great post jim1972! A big chufty badge in the post for you! Bet YOU will be first one on here moaning about collins when $h1t hits the fan regarding scott brown situation. Double standards and contradicting posts are becoming a bit of a routine for you

Agree0 Disagree0

If he's not good enough because of his limited managerial experience then fine but what's that got to do with bein a coach/ass mngr he is not the manager, he wanted pampered young hibs players who thought they were the finished article to do double training sessions to try and improve them, that philosophy comes from the continent that's why us scots got left behind, he knew that and was trying to educate them but then just look at the state of our game maybe JC was onto something

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Charleroi aren't Scottish, neither are Fulham and West Ham who both interviewed him. Why has nobody in football seen these wonderful attributes that CFC fans seem to see in him? You're glossing over the problems at Hibs as well, it was a lot more than a fall-out over double training sessions.}

I am happy with Collins, I've already said why on the other page! I would also have been happy with Stubbsy/Mckinley(Billy)/and Joe Jordan also - Who I wanted when Alan Thompson left. He was out of a job then, and would have been ideal, but he has a good job at QPR now-he probably on about half a million a year there-Collins will be on about 100k. If you are going to come on shouting the odds/hating Collins for no reason I can make out other than you just don't like him, have a viable alternative. In the ideal world I would have liked Mike Phelan, but he would have been on a fortune at Utd, I would have loved Stevie Clarke at Celtic as a coach, but the board can't pay the coach more than the manager. Deila was in his early 30's when he started coaching - maybe he sees something in young Kennedy, who seems like a good sort, he will also know the youth players, and he might want to try a few of them. I want the standards to improve right through the club, the youth coaching to improve, the dedication to improve, and as far as I can see people are seeing it as a negative the fact that Collins has such high standards - maybe that's why he had a great career compared to the no-marks strutting their stuff in Scotland today! And Scott Brown has a bit to go before he is as good as Collins, we were told he was the new Roy Keane when we signed him, he isn't even close. He has improved over the last couple of years/grown up a bit, and fair enough, but all this refusing to do double sessions, who do these guys think they are? Grow up, and show a bit of class - it's their careers that will benefit.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - You do know Collins will have nothing to do with coaching youth players don't you? That's not what an assistant manager does, youth coaches do that under instruction from the manager and John Park. Look at Deila's history, I don't think he needs any advice on coaching young players, especially from a failed manager/coach.}

Mallybhoy, you say he's "every bit as good if not better" - who else has been linked with the Asst Mgrs job, because from what I've picked up on it's been a two-horse race between JC + JK?

Agree0 Disagree0

HB am talkin about everybody on here's choices, we're all not Gonny agree on this it's all about opinions so we'll have to wait and see

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed av no idea what the problem at hibs was but that was a long time ago things change people change, he at least got them a much sought after trophy but you state the hibs fans on there site don't fancy him well the last manager they fancied was E Turnbull and that was a long time ago so maybe they're not the best judge to go by

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - So unless someone agrees with you they can't judge a guy that managed their club and caused major problems, just like CFC fans are proving not to be the best judges so they'll cling onto someone being an ex-player as credentials for a job.
People do change and so does football, Collins hasn't exactly been working at the sharp end of the game for SIX years has he? A good player does not guarantee a good manager or coach, as Collins has proven, look at Alan Shearer.
If Collins is the best CV for the assistant manager job we are in a far worse state than ANYONE has ever thought we were.
Nobody can answer the question, what can Collins bring to the club? You're making excuses without actually backing your view with facts, he's failed at every job he's had and been out of the game for years.
And Collins hasn't changed, he never will, he's still the same arrogant, self-obsessed man he always was with terrible man-management skills, that's why he's failed everywhere and can't get a paying job in football except as a pundit. Charlie Nicholas might fancy it if that's the criteria.}

If the sh!t hits the fan dn30 it's not necessarily Collins who'll be to blame my first target will be ronny or the board as they are the main men at the club not an assistant. If broonie and jc can't act as grown men and put aside past differences then I would move one of them on and I would tend to back the management as players should be following the managers instructions and ronny might not have full say in who his assistant is but still has to ok him I would assume.
Please add clarity as to my contradictions please

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Who will the players back in that situation, Jim, their captain or a new manager? That should get the team morale off to a flier if the players don't like the new assistant before they even take over.}

Ed, who knows how the players will react we don't even know if there is still an issue between them or if it's going to be a problem or has been resolved. I would assume the club are aware of jc previous posts and will sit down with ronny and discuss the scenarios that might arise especially with the captain having had previous with jc. Jc wouldn't have been my first pick but then again neither would ronny so if that's our management team then so be it and let's try and move on and hopefully progress as a team.

Agree0 Disagree0

John Collins has been working with the SFA for the last 6 months and he has been working with Adidas Coerver for years, coaching coaches. What he brings is a standard that has been missing. He will demand better from the players, better fitness, better technical quality and if we play as people are saying the new boss likes then the players must have those attributes. People keep going on about he upset at Hibs and in Belgium and then they say he has been out of the game for 6 years, can't have it both ways can you. Either moan about he hasn't been in the top flight or he upset people years ago. so did Neil Lennon, so did Gordon Strachan, so did Big Jock for goodness sake, wouldn't be human otherwise. I know how good a coach he is and that is why he is there, nothing to do with being ex Celtic, he is there on ability. If they work they way I hope then this Celtic team will be high tempo, slick and play really good football. but we can't have that now can we.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - That's one of the funniest things I've read in a while, fairly brightened up my day. What a sparkling CV that'll make.}

I think a no2 does different things depending on the club/circumstances, the same as some managers coach(Deila/Clarke) some don't (O'Neil/Keane) just a quick example of the top of my head. So I don't think it's black and white at all. I want Deila and Collins to gut the youth set-up and bring in better coaches/get involved themselves also. I've already said the amount we will be prepared to spend on an assistant - you are not going to get a super successful coach willing to take peanuts, and be a no2 into the bargain. Deila will be hands on, taking the sessions so they obviously just wanted someone to tell him about the dynamics of Scottish football/someone who knew the club, and also someone with similar ideas on the way the game should be played. Every situation is different if Keane had got the job, I wouldn't have wanted Kennedy/Collins because it would be too samey - we would have needed a top coach because Keane doesn't do much outwith give dirty looks/slate everyone, but Deila will be coaching, which I like.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - You'll be disappointed then, Delia and Park will run things and Collins will do his job, which is assisting Delia with the first team.}

I don't see the problem with kennedy, hb as he will have all the info reqd on the young bhoys at celtic and I think as important all the up coming talent at the other teams, he will have a 1st hand knowledge of the first team and all the players in the league

Agree0 Disagree0

@jim1972 clarity lol

@allymac35 lmao that is absolute class. You have really changed my opinion now pmsl

Agree0 Disagree0

Please tell me where I'm contradicting myself or is that your bog standard don't know what to say reply?

Agree0 Disagree0

I fear for Celtic if R D has spent weeks trying to talk John Collins I into becoming our number 2. The ability and air of greatness that some of our fans give to J C, cleary makes him not a good option for us, because all I can see that some people and certainly John Collins thinks that he is too good for assistant . I see trouble behind the scenes at Celtic and maybe Ronnie Deila will feel odd man out and will decide to leave .

Agree0 Disagree0

Guys some good shouts over new Assist Mgr I even like DN choice in Jordan. Jackie Mac would be a good choice too or even Larsson but we don't get to pick him. Now I will be the first to admit I now nothing about our new Mgr like the rest of us but going by reputation and what he says I trust the guy, and if its Collins then so be it. So let's get behind it no matter what, because let's be honest the Mgr knows a damn site more than we do lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

Al take your non response to last post as you don't actually have any inside knowledge on the JC stu cheers

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would a man of Collins ability of coaching coaches, step down to becoming a number 2 with. A club like Celtic

Agree0 Disagree0

DRB, "1st hand knowledge of the first team and all the players in the league" - How is that? He's not played Scottish football since 2007 or something, the season he got injured against Shakhtar Donetsk, and he's never coached at first team level. So how will he have first hand knowledge of our 1st team or current players in the Scot Prem?

Agree0 Disagree0

Hb,, do you think he goes to lennoxtown everyday and doesn't know any of the first team or watch training sessions or practice matches, does he not watch the 1st team games at celtic park or tv I/you/ we follow celtic and couldn't care less about the rest but could probably name most players in every team in the league and who I/you/ we rate etc , so why would kennedy not have that knowledge also, I might be wrong but I remember reading that after each game nl brought all the coaching staff at lennoxtown in to review the game, if this was the case was jk the only one who didn't partake, but you might know better and he cannot tell rd anything about our players or league but as a young coach I would hope he studies the league his employers played in

Agree0 Disagree0

If watching Scottish football on tv gives you first hand knowledge of the league and players nowadays then I feel that I should've been well in the running for Celtic manager, asst manager and/or 1st team coach then! I struggle to believe Lennon reviewed footage of games with other members of the coaching staff, because if he did and nobody couldn't spot what was wrong with his style of play / tactics then we need a complete overhaul at all levels of our club.

Agree0 Disagree0

Seems dn30 and ed007 that you think what I am saying is funny. Maybe you should read what Tosh McKinaly says about JC today, pretty much exactly what I have said. You 2 seems to think that anyone who doesn't agree with you doesn't know what they are talking about, yet neither of you has provided a single piece of evidence to support your theory that JC isn't good enough. Still dn30 you didn't support NL either and he won 3 in a row, so I must of course bow to your superior knowledge. Read the article and as we keep telling the newco fans, get your heads out of the sand!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I don't think it's funny, I thinkmit's hilarious! You're acting like a schoolgirl who's upset someone slagged your favourite One Direction member, man up!
The evidence is his record, it speak for itself. What evidence is there to back up his appointment? Oh I forgot, he does free coaching for Adidas, that hotbed of coaching expertise. What was the headline in the paper

'SHOCK HORROR!! EX CELTIC PLAYER THINKS OTHER EX CELTIC PLAYER IS DAMN GOOD GUY!!

Pulitzer prize winning stuff I bet, it's called a puff piece btw. Nobody who has worked under him (or with him) as a manager has said anything in the papers, why's that?}

McKinley sees John Collins’ role at Celtic Park as a positive move, focusing on the former Celts attention to detail, professionalism, winning mentality and knowledge of the Scottish game as something the club and Ronnie will benefit from. Pretty bang on if you ask me, something that has been sadly missing from Celtic especially the attention to detail.

Agree0 Disagree0

But watching tv makes you an expert who can tell how good a coach he is?

Agree0 Disagree0

34. Not TV, 1st hand experience of working with him and having him work with my boys. Experience of seeing how he behaves 1st hand, how much attentionto detail he has. but just ask Ed, he is the font of all knowledge apparently!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Apparently I know a lot more than you. I know plenty of ex-players that work coaching kids, it doesn't meant they should be assistant manager at CFC, give your head a wobble pal, you're embarrassing yourself with this stuff. There's a world of difference between the levels of football you're comparing, an assistant manager should have excellent man (not kid) management skills, something Collins will never have, never.
I'm still waiting on your reason why nobody has offered him a paying job in football for years....
Why he has been overlooked for EVERY managers and coaching job in Scotland and England, perhaps all those clubs should have went to watch his work with a daft kids team and how he can organise things.
I bet the minibus never failed to turn up or got a puncture without a spare, what with his eye for detail, have you and him ever had a Jim White/Brian Laudrup moment?}

Allymac, I was replying to Hamilton bhoy about john kennedy

I can tell you from 1st hand experience how good a coach he is. Oh, and just because someone doesn't agree with you doesn't mean I need to man up. I am old enough and wise enough to recognise a decent appointment based on fact, you are basing it on things that happened years ago.

That hotbed of coaching also provides coaching for Real Madrid, Spanish national coaches, Ajax, PSV Eindhoven, The English FA, The Scottish FA and many more, so before your mouth goes into overdrive do some research.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Unless you're a professional footballer your first hand experience means jack-sh1t pal. It's coaching kids you're talking about, and he's doing it for free, just like thousands of ex-players and normal dads.
Has Collins done any work for Madrid, Spain, Ajax, the FA, or at any notable level for the SFA?
It's your imagination (and man-love) that's went into overdrive here, and still you avoid the question:

WHY HAS COLLINS BEEN OVERLOOKED FOR EVERY SINGLE MANAGEMENT OR COACHING JOB IN SCOTLAND, ENGLAND, SPAIN AND HOLLAND SEEING YOU BROUGHT THEM INTO IT AS WELL?

Even ADIDAS couldn't find him a paying job, why is that? You'd be better engaging your brain before you embarrass yourself any more, being old doesn't mean you're wise. Someone your age should know better.
You should try basing it on fact, we can only go on what happened years ago, he's been jobless for 6 years ffs, so what fact are you basing it on, you think the sun shines out his ass because he coaches your kids team, are you his assistant? Does he let you have a club tracky and bag as well? Maybe he'll get you a job at CFC, they're always desperate for car park attendants on matchdays so you never know.}

Apologies Deep River Bhoy
