Ed do you think it is certain Hooper will leave, and who do you think will be his replacement?
Barry97 {Ed007's Note - It's certain Hooper will leave Barry, I have said it for over a year. As for his replacement, I'm sitting on the fence right now, it could be up to Peter Lawwell rather than our manager.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Are you worried will will not spend decent money on a stiker? I am!going into the new season with sammy and stokes ( not signed yet! ) And balde is a bit scary.

Bristolcelt {Ed007's Note - It depends if PL backs the manager this summer (for a change)}

Agree0 Disagree0

The current state of the SPL has bitten us on the backside. It is 'on paper', a one horse race with players and fans being complacent.
This also affects the boards' thinking who believe we have enough about us without spending big on quality because we are still winning trophies.
Attracting players is more difficult than ever - apart from the lure of CL, which is a mine field at present - with early qualifiers.
The loss of 2 star players (before the season has even started) is a gamble, in as much as we will have to qualify for the group stages before any chance of serious investment in the squad or Celtic being a viable option for better quality players.
The poor pre-season with 'injury' and preparation problems may reflect the frustrations of the manager and players, at seeing a very good squad being dismantled?

I know it was stated in here but was it true that SFA tier 1 spl referees started officiating at t'rangers div3 games? When they were stuck at fourth position? And that fifteen red cards were given to the opposition? Straight reds? To give SEVCO 15 games against ten men?
And that no other div3 games (all part time teams) enjoyed top grade referees?

I find all the above totally unbelievable and really need some honest input to put me right on this.

For players in div3 to have to change their playing style only for SEVCO games then change it back again to div3 refereeing standards would be a clear skewering of the integrity of the division last season.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The reason given was, that televised games need a grade 1 official, regardless of what division the teams are in.This didn't stop the shocking refereeing displays that handed the new club some much needed help in most of the games.

Briggs

Agree0 Disagree0

Op would you really be surprised by this? This new club has been aided at every hint of trouble! What can we expect as this has been the norm for many years with the now dead club also!

Nothing really changes does it! I think we all were thinking maybe there maybe a new start for this new club, but it appears that it's been business as usual for all the wrong reasons!

Agree0 Disagree0

The best of the lot, the absolute creme de la creme was the disallowed Berwick Rangers goal against them in there 3rd or 4th game of the season 2 minutes from time that would have won Berwick the match. Not a single thing could any honest ref find with that goal, yet that day that particular ref did. No shoving, no offside. no handball, the corner didn't go out before curling back in, no one blocked the keeper. Nothing. It was shameful. And it left me feeling I had genuinely just witnessed a team being cheated. My guess? The ref had a few bob on Rangers going the whole season unbeaten. He needn't have bothered lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Briggs you are right it was the reason given because that's the rules.jmgers

@3) and Lenny's first year against WS at RFC. Inverness robbed of a win against RFC. Sports writers wrote the next day the game was corrupted in Scotland.

Agree0 Disagree0

@3. Says it all really, no matter how low a level they find themselves at, this will happen. It's ingrained. The pressure on these referees should be continued, all controversial decisions should be publicly explained right after the match. Why should the ref not be interviewed on tv? Especially in these times of match fixing.

Thank god we are almost at that time of year where going shopping or doing the DIY can be ditched and I can get the TV remote back when not at Celtic Park to watch away games. No more jessica fletcher or dick van dyke reruns for at least 9 months

Celtic shouldn't be looking at him, but the sevvies have admired Lyle Taylor at Falkirk all last season. A div1 awards winner and top goal scorer would surely be a catch for a third tier mob. however the SEVCO budget is so restricted the £250k price tag is clearly beyond their means. Or has the boy knocked them back and it's being kept quiet whilst he's ushered out of Scotland? Jackie Mac should be thinking of giving him a game at dun utd. Especially if he gets money for Mackay-Steven.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We are not allowed to buy players mate.jmgers

Agree0 Disagree0

They are not allowed to buy players till next year, was the moon busy when you went on holiday, fab1

Agree0 Disagree0

They're signing up lots of players that should have price tags of £250k or more on them, remarkably freed up by their clubs with a year left on contracts.
Where there's a will there's a way. As they say. U know, Taylor is mysteriously released from contract by Falkirk, etc, .

Agree0 Disagree0

@No.3

Another strange one was the Foster transfer - released by Bristol City, signed by Rangers. Rangers play a pre-season friendly at Bristol City and agree to waive their share of the gate money. Hmm.

TomTheTim

Agree0 Disagree0

@3 corruption and the usual underhand dealings of this rancid organization! But what can you do if the policing authority (sfa) is infested with former employees or supporters of the rancid bunch and refuse to police it the way that it is supposed to!
Needs to be an enquiry into the dealings of the SFA/SFL/SPL and of the rangers and the new club the The Rangers! The skeletons in their closets need to come out! And I am sure there are some almighty skeletons in there!

Agree0 Disagree0

@3 the match was set up by the sponsor of both clubs, Blackthorn, nothing to do with Foster. Stop clutching at straws to try and score petty points. PB

Agree0 Disagree0

@ 6

So why did Bristol get to keep all the gate money if it wasn't in lieu of a transfer fee for Foster?

TTT

Nobody is clutching at straws, we're ok, its ibrox where desperation lives. Guys on here just pointing out the strange coincidences that follow the rangers around. That foster deal is dodgy. Guys pants anyway. Must be if ally likes him.

According to the papers Norwich have made a £4m bid for Hooper. There is however a deadline on this bid, which I think was 5pm tonight. If we have let this pass, without accepting the bid, I would think we have played into Hooper's hands.

Obviously if he does not fancy Norwich then he is free to say no. The problem for me is we have not drawn a line in the sand. By accepting the bid we would have shown that we have had enough, if he wants to go get his agent on it. The knock on from this is he would realise that we are making other plans and he would not be a first pick. Does he fancy playing in just a few league games till he leaves?

The longer this drags on the worse the outcome for Celtic will be.For Hooper things get better. If he goes pre contract he will pocket an enormous fee from whoever he signs for. Time for us to play hardball with him and his advisors. No player has ever been bigger than Celtic, and no player ever will. It will be interesting to see if he plays in Belfast, or will his 'strain' prohibit him?. green jhedi

Believable0 Unbelievable0

GJ,

We should not be held to ransom by anyone. No-one should be setting us deadlines, especially not a pissant outfit like Norwich who were flirting with relegation to the 4th level of English football until our ex-captain took them by the scruff of the neck and dragged them into the EPL. If they don't match Celtic's valuation they should GTF, end of. If Hooper throws a wobbly, stick him in the reserves until his contract expires. Stuff the transfer fee, no-one is bigger than the Club.

TomTheTim

Agree0 Disagree0

By accepting the bid, we would have shown we are a small time outfit being bullied by other teams! We would have left ourselves wide open for this to happen more often than not.

Briggs

Agree0 Disagree0

@Briggs: You might not like this but compared to any EPL side financially, we are small time.

If you take away the monetary aspect, then Norwich and Southampton are not on the same planet as us, only a couple of EPL clubs are, but money talks mate.

What would you prefer, £4m now or nothing when Hooper signs a pre contract in Jan?

As for leaving ourselves wide open, how? All we can do is offer players contract extensions. If they refuse to sign then we need to look at moving them on. Vic and Hooper would not re sign. So let's make sure we get a fee.,,, green jhedi

I totally agree! I'm so fed up hearing about Gary Hooper now. If he wants to go then just go already. We plucked him from relative obscurity and gave him some great times that he'll never find elsewhere without getting into a top four EPL team. If he really thinks that playing for a Norwich or QPR will get him into the England squad then good luck with that Gary. Where's his head at? I think Chico Mulgrew says it all here. 1.35 in:

Agree0 Disagree0

@GJ I agree that financially we might be small time compared to epl teams, but in terms of stature we are head and shoulders above them. It may sound insane but I would rather take a loss in money than bowing to those clowns. But hopefully QPR will come in now and end all the speculation surrounding him. I will also say that I wish him all the best for the futureas we all want to better ourselves in life, and I suppose that's what he thinks but I'm not to sure if its for footballing reasons that he's leaving although I might be wrong.

Briggs

Agree0 Disagree0

@ Briggs: Spot on mate.We dwarf the majority of EPL clubs in every aspect bar financial. As for the loss of money, I can't agree with that one.He has been well paid for three years we should get something for that.

It seems QPR have got him and like you I wish him nothing but the best.He done a good job for 90% of the time he was here. As you say he is bettering his life, can anyone say they would not do the same? Good luck to him, but he will not get what he had here in a footballing sense. green jhedi

I know our pre season was pants and Neil is obviously covering his behind by saying we came back early and are not nearly well prepared as we should be, I will go along with that.
But Cliftonville have not started their season yet either and also had to cut short their pre season, so surely with our better standard of players Celtic should still have the advantage.
I still expect a victory on Wednesday, hard fought yes, but Celtic should be welcoming this kind of tie so early in CL, as we could have got it much tougher. Timalloy

Afternoon ed, I agree with chrisbhoy on the way we do business, years gone by we could rely on targets wanting to come to celtic, nowadays the quality players need every bit of promting to come here, sad but true money is god., on another note for years most of us have wanted 2 quality center backs, I was hoping the scouting system would have made this a priority, do you think this will get sorted ed . Ths {Ed007's Note - I thought Kelvin Wilson would have been the answer but he has looked a shadow of the player he was at Nottingham Forest.}

TRAVELLING TO THE CLIFTONVILLE MATCH ANYONE?
I wouldn't be too worried about this guys. If you've got a ticket there is no reason why you shouldn't go. There isn't too much to be worried about. All you have here is a crowd of hooligans with feck all else to do and most of these things blow over as quickly as they start. Solitude is far enough away from the flashpoint areas to be totally safe. Stay away from the dodgy areas and you'll be 100% as safe as you would be in Glasgow or any other city in the UK.
Don't let these nobheads put you off or ruin your experience. Trust me, Belfast is a million times safer now than it was in years gone by. The persons won't get near Solitude and you won't be going anywhere near them so please support the Bhoys with pride and let the nutcases feel the shame of their actions.

Why oh why is our club running around like a headless chicken at the last minute trying to find a striker to replace Hooper? Why do they do this every feckin transfer window? Always looking for the scraps of who is available instead of going out and buying a wee bit of quality? Why do we always set ourselves up to be humbled by lesser teams because we are caught short in terms of personnel?
Why don't the Board stop being penny pinching, miserable, narrow minded, scrooge-like persons and stop embarrassing themselves and the fans?
I'm a wee bit pished off that we are now entering a new CL campaign with a genuine fear of being humbled by a plucky bunch of amateurs, most of who have ordinary day jobs as well. Cliftonville will feel they have a chance and I am starting to believe it myself. Last night I dreamt we lost the first tie 3-1 with Lennon saying afterwards that the away goal could be crucial. Am I alone in this sense of madness and disappointment? I know the club are careful with money etc. etc. etc. but it is now beginning to feel like a total let down in terms of preparation. We are the champions and cup winners but at the moment it doesn't look like we could beat a feckin drum if we tried. Players leaving, players wanting to leave, players going out on loan and all we have done is buy two lads who are definitely "for the future" if their performances in Germany are anything to go by. Where are our signings for "today"? Why aren't they in place long ago? That's how the real teams do it, buy new guys quickly and let them settle in. Where does this total lack of organisation stop and a bit of professionalism begin?
People complaining about Watt and McGeouch possibly going on loan too. Apparently we need them. In my opinion we don't if it's true they have been acting like persons. Their potential is clearly not becoming reality and if a kid like Watt thinks he can bounce around like King of the Castle because of one feckin goal then he needs a good kick in the tescticular department with a pair of "grow up son" boots. We don't need potential, we need proven quality and we need it now.
Rant over. Sorry Ed.

What we need is the Tony Watt who scored against Barca, not the Tony Watt we appear to have at the moment. Young lads who think they know it all in football are a dime a dozen. Many exceptionally talented kids have fallen by the wayside due to attitude issues. It's a sign of the times in our society and it happens in all walks of life, not just football.
If the kid is kicking off then we need to ship him out of the club. Whether that's on loan or for good is not my call but a spell at a lesser club might act as something of a "boot camp" for him. Maybe he'll realise that he doesn't know everything after all.
I once heard a story about an 18 year old lad who was going to University. His parents were trying to give him advice and he was rejecting it on the grounds that they didn't know anything about life. At the end of his course he said he was surprised how much his parents had learned about life in 3 years!

If the truth be told other than the two goals against murderwell and the Barca goal he has nothing to shout about. Maybe he is forgetting he had a clear run on goal v Barca, still had to keep it together, but a clear run none the less.

Dont get me wrong I think the boy has talent, but what impressed me most was his work rate. That part of his game has not advanced at all. I also think he would come good with a physical partner, Balde?, but it is up to the boy himself. let's hope he knuckles down and workshard. green jhedi

Just reading the papers and a couple mention that 4 Kenyan clubs and Beerschot are looking for a sell on for Wanyama, but don't say how much. One paper states that war breaks out over Victor Wanyamas 12.5 transfer fee, witch sounds serious until you workout how much we might have to pay. Beerschot are due 1 percent of profit £116,000 if we have to pay, then the Kenyans are reported to be due a share of 5 per cent of his transfer fee. An Edinburgh paper is more specific about the Kenyans share stating that according to fifa rules they could be due a 5 per cent cut of 10 per cent of the total transfer fee, this is £62, 500, even if we have to pay all 4 that's only £250,000. So overall Celtic may have to pay £366,000 from £12.5million.mark

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The development fees are surely due from beerschot not another club further down the sell on chain. With beerschot bust, they're all on a hiding to nothing.
Also Hooper won't go for less than £5m.
Pro SEVCO papers can't find anything bad on the big club so come up with this piffle. Meanwhile there's a torrent of significant bad news from sevvy land that gets unreported or played down.

Agree0 Disagree0
