15 Feb 2018 23:22:34
Honestly what a performance. From back to front. If we played like that week in week out we would be invincible every season AND we have the talent and depth to do it. Look how many are out.
Callum
James
Scott
Moussa
Outstanding.

Thought the team selection and tactics were spot on tonight. Maybe now some people will relax and get off the managers back for a while, well at least until Sunday.

First time poster here guys but long time reading your post . first off I though that was most the most solid performance we put in tonight in a long time . Players that had to stand up and be counted . IMO stood up . my question to fellow readers is would yous consider the domestic double a disappointment this season . For me I would be happy as long as some one other than the current buns even get to final.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Welcome aboard, Paddy. I'd be disappointed if we 'only' won a double this year mainly because of the strength and depth of squad we have when everyone's fit. If we carry tonight's form into our domestic game nobody in Scotland will touch us again this year.}

16 Feb 2018 00:40:12
Far far far too true! We played like we were 16 and chasing our hole.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Hahahaha!

16 Feb 2018 02:27:52
I said if we hit our form we would win 3.1. Well we did and we should have won by at least 4. 0. Fecking brilliant show apart from the score. We can score over there. Of that I gave no doubt. Believe in themselves and we will ****ing do them.

Proud of the boys tonight, played like feckin men. Celtic men. That’s all I asked for and they did it. Keep that up and tear every can't in the league a new one.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Feb 2018 02:49:38
We need to go there with the confidence
that this team can score at least one goal, we can feckin fick this mob if we play as we did tonight.

It should be a three goal lead, but I know we will score over there.

What made it better was a wee look on Shallow Shallow. The cants are sick. Now convinced Zenit are pish and they will take us the next time we visit Mordor.

Bring it feckin on you hun cants. I cannot wait.

Superb performance tonight, been a while since I've seen us looking as comfortable against quality opposition, this result is just what we needed and our youngsters will benefit hugely from this. HH 😁😁.

15 Feb 2018 23:01:52
Well that was such an improvement tonight, I said the other day Zenit wouldn’t be worried about us if we played like we have recently . Thankfully the “real Celtic “ turned
up tonight. All over the pitch we couldn’t fault anyone, I really enjoyed watching us tonight. We seemed to get our pace back, dembele was very good again especially the hold up work, if a couple of our chances had fallen for us it would have made the night even better. Look we still may not go through and we have to remember they were bought for so much more than us, but we can look back tonight and think we can match these teams. Also well done to the management team as they got their tactics spot on . Coybig.

I criticised Ajer a few weeks ago. What a mistake by me - I thought he was immense as was McGregor as was the whole team. A very happy bhoy.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

15 Feb 2018 23:01:15
What we need to remember is CB is a hard position to play, which is why you don't see too many CBs at his age.

He is also learning the position as he was playing as a midfielder up until last season. Couple that with the fact that he has not had a long enough run with the same partner.

So yes he will make mistakes and have bad games but I am confident that if we persevere with him then he could be top notch in 2-3 years and be a main stay for years to come.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Feb 2018 22:42:22
What a team performance. Not 1 failure and think big Jozo deserves special praise as clearly under a bit of pressure but was solid and put in some great blocks and tackles when it mattered. Goal of the season, no question. 🍀.

15 Feb 2018 22:38:26
Great performance from the team tonight and glad they didn't get an away goal.

Big improvement from Dembele, despite the fact he did not score.

First half I thought Tierney was outstanding but they shut him down in the second half.

McGregor was involved in a lot of our attacking play and took his goal well.

Kouassi and Nthcam were also class and defence looked solid.

My only gripe is that I thought we could have scored more if we had had a little more composure.

I think we will need to score over there as they will cause us more problems on their own patch and I would be surprised if we managed to keep a clean sheet.

Glad there is only 1 week between legs as I think they would be a different beast with and extra 1-2 weeks under theire belts, as they looked a bit rusty.

Well done Celtic. Totally dominant.
McGregor shut a few people up tonight and was best man on the park
Forrest and Tierney were marvellous and worked so hard.
Dembele worked really hard and held baw up so well
Brown and Kouassi were machines in the middle.
Ntcham is a ball player.
Lustig playing injured powered through and put in a really good performance
The centre backs won every battle and high ball.
Keeper done everything asked of him
Both subs made great impact on the game and what a ball fae wee charly
Joy to watch.

Best team performance of the season for me! Just beating our canter up at Pittodrie! Really don’t know why Wee Mcgregor takes so much flak. he's technically really good and he’s always in positions to get a Wee goal! But I thought from back to front all of the players were at it from the first whistle to last! It pleased me to see us put in a good 90 minutes! It will give us the confidence to kick on now and clean up once again! Big pat on the back tonite to every player! Bit of pride back tonite 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻☘️☘️HH.

Lh86 ed007 will tell you I am a big fan of McGregor and have argued with more than a few fans on here about him.
He is a manager's dream.
Aye boss you want me to play left back no bother
Aye boss you want me to play right midfield no bother.
Every major squad has a player like that. They sacrifice a lot of their game for the good of them team and are always underrated.

Absolutely brilliant performance, all round, a shame we couldn't get a couple more goals but if we play like that again next week should easily get passed them and onto the next round, that's the best performance I've seen this season.

15 Feb 2018 22:03:25

15 Feb 2018 23:10:52
Be tougher over there but hopefully a confidence boost and what the team needed to get back to last seasons form. Maybe a few back from injury can play a part too. Bold to leave Sinky out completely too. Could've been a whole lot better as they should've had 2 red cards.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I'm confident of scoring over there and if we draw first blood Zenit look like they could fall apart and also lose their discipline.}

16 Feb 2018 00:07:20
Yes Ed, we have a chance and that's more than many of us would have believed before tonight. HAIL HAIL to the Super Celtic! HH.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - That result - and more so the actual performance - should hopefully reinvigorate the team/squad AND the fans. There's going to be blips and spells when we're struggling but we've got a young squad that can only get better.
Zenit were the highest scoring team in the EL and we kept them out with Lustig who's supposedly finished, Jozo who's supposedly a bombscare and Ajer who supposedly will never be a CB as our defence oh and a 37-year-old GK who hasn't kicked a ball in anger for eons!
All joking aside I thought DDVs distibution was immense tonight and it shows the difference having a 'keeper that can consistently find a man with his ouu ball.}

15 Feb 2018 22:02:20
Brilliant, just brilliant! That's how a real team can work perfectly together. Every man on the park and everyone off it contributed to that fantastic performance!
That team will be a different beast in Russia. We take a very well deserved lead into the tie and its in our hands now.
Brilliant!

Excellent performance tonight. About the most disciplined i have seen them play recently. Musonda shows what he can do in a tight space with his part in drawing 3 players in before the goal. McGregor deserved his goal for his work rate but for me Ntcham continues to improve game on game.

Well done bhoys

Although I am not expecting too much tonight, due to the goalkeeping and defensive weakness and the limits forced upon us due to a horrendous injury list; it is still fantastic to be back in Europe and especially in the 'latter stages' of KO ties.
James Forrest has been immense for us in big games and although his hat-trick maybe came a game too soon ha ha, - he could still be a big threat and catalyst for the other forwards, to return to form
Zenit may not be a glamour club, but they do have a formidable and experienced manager and as far as I know, a couple of multi million pound players, but we have faced much bigger and better and if we can reproduce the urgency, style and energy of the Bayern game, we may have a wee chance?
Whatever happens keep the faith and remember the only other Scottish clubs in Europe are in Paul Laurie's golf bag.

Ajer ( Up and coming young player )
Henry ( best young defender in Scotland )
Forrest ( in form and on fire scoring for fun )

Brown ( best mid fielder in scotland )
Ntcham ( 4-5 million player great future celt)
Musonda ( 6-7 million pound man city player, skilful )
Edouard ( 5-6 Million man city player young talent )

Dembele. ( 30 million pound stirker can and will score goals)

See the papers needed someone to give them a quote running down Celtic
Up steps Charlie Nicholas
How anyone can call that 30 pieces of silver person a Celtic legend is beyond me.

Believable3 Unbelievable4

15 Feb 2018 09:32:17
Beat me to it kev! The guy is an absolute clown! He shouldn’t be allowed to set foot in celtic Park again! It’s constant running our club down! And like u said anyone associating that 🤬 with being a legend at our club needs to take a look at themselves! I know u said he was a favourite of urs back in the day ED but anything this guy done in a Celtic top has long since been soured with his never ending attacks on our club! Like kev said, before any big game it’s this scumbag out in the papers having a go at something and making it a negative! Hates a strong word but my feelings for this guy come close!

Agree2 Disagree3

{Ed007's Note - So what exactly has Nicholas said that hasn't been said on here? We've got people slagging the manager after a treble and 2 domestic losses in 18 months, Dembele's rubbish and we should have sold him, young players trashed for misplacing a pass, youngsters like Ralston wrote off and Musonda's useless after 2 starts. We've got predictions that it'll be a long night tonight and that we'll lose 4-1... are those posters all scumbags too?
Anyone questioning Nicholas' credentials as a Celtic supporter have obviously never met him or heard guys like Paul McStay and Billy McNeill talking about him.}

15 Feb 2018 10:03:27
Kev I hear you, but what could he have said that was not construed as just a fan ignoring current form and lack of investment in the defence? And on current form Moussa doesn’t even look worth £12m. So he would be lying if he didn’t admit that. That’s why we couldn’t consider selling him. We would have lost millions. He needs to recapture his form.

The truth is we aren’t even as strong squad wise as we were in the cl. How can you weave a positive spin on that. It seems that the truth is something sone see as negative. It doesn’t stop it being the truth though. We are struggling. Our defence is still weak. Our better players are nowhere near their form with two or three exceptions. Our goalie is out, we have defenders injured and we have no one new to step right in tonight.

I’m no fan of Charlie, but, he is telling it the way he sees it. Rather than how he wished it would be. Like most on hereseem to be doing. I think we all thought we would be stronger for this game after the window. I doubt anybody really believes the area needing most attention has been dealt with. The very fact young Hendry is only a maybe to start clearly illustrates that. Rogers is saying he can’t sign a £20m defender so we need to hope young guys can step up. So is he saying there are no players in the £4-6m range who coukdnt improve us? If he is he’s talking bollicks. Sounds like he is getting the excuses in early. Nobody expects us to spend £20m on a player. Not one supporter thinks that. But we do know there are plenty of defenders in the range I mentioned who we need and should have got. Four windows to sort or at least improve thecdefence and so far it hasn’t happened. He’s feeling the pressure as he will be judged by teams he wants to join after us will look solely at his record in Europe. I thought that would sour him to demand investment, it didn’t and his street cred will drop if we get embarrassed in this tie.

Pull it off with our tin resources mentality and his cred goes through the roof. He has made it harder to achieve that. Charlie may talk shite, but he isn’t saying anything we all haven’t thought. Even if we don’t admit it in here.

Agree2 Disagree2

{Ed007's Note - So you're a mind reader as well now!}

15 Feb 2018 10:27:05
Well said ED. Big difference between concerned questioning and downright slating of players and management.

Agree1 Disagree3

{Ed007's Note - Some people are always looking for any negative just so they have got something to moan about and if they can't find anything new they'll just regurgitate the same whining pish over and over again.}

15 Feb 2018 10:28:04
Those posters don’t do it In national rags but ED! Is it a coincidence that every time we play a big game this clown is out spouting his pish in the rags! What has moussas price tag got to do with the game tonite? He’s the go to guy for anything negative to say before a game! An embarrassment who shouldn’t be allowed to set foot in celtic Park again! And would the maestro or big billy be in the rags on the day of a big European game talking all things negative about celtic? Players off form moussas price tag, celtic aren’t playing well! I think not! A rat of a man!

Agree0 Disagree3

{Ed007's Note - I don't read the papers so I've no idea if Nicholas does it every time we play a big game and I'll need to take your word for that. At least he's not as bad as Kris Commons.}

15 Feb 2018 10:49:05
Yes. Did a night class in it. Mind Reading for Beginners. I’m sensing you don’t believe me, which proves I have the gift right there. If anybody hasn’t thought our form has dipped and that our defence is sorted, then I would suggest enrolling in the excellent night class next door to the mind reading one. Reality and How to recognise it. It’s literally an eye opener.

Agree2 Disagree2

{Ed007's Note - How do you know this?

"Charlie may talk shite, but he isn’t saying anything we all haven’t thought."

Oh and Charlie Nicholas never mentioned anything about the defence so you're just making stuff up so you can AGAIN regurgitate the exact same whiny pish you usually do.

"Celtic are not playing well at the moment. The energy levels will be high for a European night at Celtic Park but that is the only reason why they are marginal favourites. Scott Sinclair and Moussa Dembele, the two players you expect to step up in the big games, are both out of form, while Leigh Griffiths is injured. Dembele would be lucky to attract another £12m bid with the way he's been performing."

Scathing stuff that eh? (facepalm) Get the pitchforks out!}

15 Feb 2018 11:03:20
ED007 well said there are far too many negative posters on here, as you know I am not on twitter, but the girls tell me that is full of doom and gloom also, because Brendan said Zenit were a CL team and were favourites. Also on here there is a bunch of nay sayers who are never happy whatever the team does, and keep comparing it to last season when the team was brilliant, there is even one warmer who has a bet with Welsbhoy that we will not win the treble this year.
I say let's all enjoy the ride while we can, guys of my vintage have lived through some really awful times as a Celtic fan, God help them if they were around during those times.
Support the Bhoys, or go elsewhere, I say to all the negative posters.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - That's spot on, Tim. There's posters who will always find something - anything - to moan about. I'll do a bit of mind reading too and say that there's posters who hope we suffer a heavy defeat tonight just so they can gloat and say they told us so.
It's shite being a Celtic supporter just now, we're going for 7 in a row with only TWO domestic loses in 18 months giving us 4 trophies in a row with one Treble under our belt and another one on the horizon, CL football and money in the bank, European football after Christmas etc - as I said, shite mate.}

15 Feb 2018 11:32:01
I was defending Charlie. To say he’s not a total Tim is utter crap. i was also saying that I believed everyone harboured similar thoughts including our defensive situation, you obviously don’t so I hold my hands up and will rephrase it. I believe most fans will have given those two things a thought, form and defence.

And if Celtic would make an attempt to really improve the defence nobody would have anything to moan about. They clearly think it’s ok I need to be careful here, I think most supporters would disagree with that. Present company excepted. I think four windows in patience btw.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Do you have that little confidence in your own opinion you keep needing to make up stuff about what other fans think? You've no proof that

a) "most fans will have given those two things a thought, form and defence."

and

b) "think most supporters would disagree with that."

Just because you want to think that doesn't make it so, I could easily say that I think most supporters would think you're a Hun, that doesn't make it true does it?}

15 Feb 2018 11:40:41
Ed it's a running theme with Charlie
Its constant fae him.
Like a few people have said it's almost everytime he talks in the press he runs celtic down and it's been going on for years.
I don't question that he's a Celtic fan but he panders to the masses.
There are several like him tae.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I hadn't read what he said so I went to look it up, did you read what he actually said, Kev, tell what's wrong with it? Or are you saying that we have been playing well and that Dembele doesn't look half the player he was last year and is playing nowhere near the level we all know he can? And Sinclair, even though his stats are top drawer, isn't playing at the same level he did last year, are you saying Nicholas is wrong about Sinclair?
And how out of order is he in for that we're "marginal favourites" to win tonight - how dare he say that! Surely he should be in the press saying we're going to get thumped and have no chance - and he calls himself a Celtic supporter, pfft.
So Charlie Nicholas says the exact same as every other Celtic supporter AND thinks we're favourites tonight (which not many supporters are saying) yet he's getting pelters and called a scumbag and a rat from Celtic supporters. Got it.}

15 Feb 2018 12:18:13

{Ed007's Note - It'll be a big ask tonight, especially when you look at our injury list, but stranger things have happened at Celtic Park.}

I must have been on a different planet when, Zenith St Petersburg became a supersonic unbeatable club, and what sort of cruel fate befell them, that they have ended up in the Europa league.

CN has his opinions and he has done some stuff on the park so he does have a better insight than many.

Are we playing to the same standards as last season? We have 2 defeats domestically, We made the CL, We are still in Europe, We are top of the league, We have the LC in the bag already, We are still in the SC and we have an injury list of players who could turn out as a full team and beat every other club in the league. Of course we are not as exciting at times but get real, How many other clubs could be like this and still keep winning?
Will we win tonight? I think it will be hard and THEY will know our weaknesses right now. Their manager is no mug.
However, ever the optimist.

I remember the night we beat a. c. Milan and when McDonald scored the camera in the studio showed Charlie bouncing about like a mad man or dare I say it a fan. he can be critical but then so can walker provan and Sutton or they could be like bfdj and talk up sevco even tho everyone knows they're rotten.

I don't know much about Zenit, but I looked at the odds for the tie and Zenit are narrow favourites to qualify over the two legs.
Those odds don't suggest that we have no hope, I just hope our players go into the match believing in themselves and relish the occasion, if they do, then i think we have every chance.

3-2 celtic. I predict a cagey start but the front men will be on top form, they've all got a point to prove bar forrest. Wots the odds Tim? Mon the hoops. Enjoy the game those with tickets. Al try n get on the live chat but it's not easy for me to watch the game and keep up with u lot with the fast typing. 🍀🍀🍀.

Right. All past games and performances this season have passed. Tonight is as big a European game as we have had for years, time for some show us they have what it takes to wear our shirt, and nothing less than one hundred percent concentration is required.

Team wise i think BR must use Moussa and Edouard together. This will give us two out balls, something we will need rather a lot i would think, and slows down the need for supporting players to constantly do twenty to forty yard bursts up field. it also has a bit deeper to counter the counter attack.

Game plan? Through them like 5hit through a goose. i mean out the traps, guns blazing, celtic Park rocking type start. We have one advantage, Zenit's winter break. let's use power and pace to see if we can rattle them. Something early to lift the crowd and who knows?

This is not one of the Super powers we are playing. This is an above average Europa League side and is winnable, no doubt. If a European league ever comes about this is our level of team, but we need to concentrate at the back.

This, i feel is a massive match for BR.

Let’s just agree it’s come on the hoops and I’m sure tonight we will get a good result and then prob blow it next week and crash out with a dodgy penalty lol.

What happened to the high mighty PSG the night took them millions to beat us haha.

They got beat by another brilliant multi million pound team. What's your point Rich?

I've never rooted for Real before last nite, but something in that wee coynt Neymar just puts me over the edge . . . Rich's point, maybe, is that we were so quick to look for any reason to mitigate our spectacular unsuccess against PSG we forgot that we've played far better teams in recents times and put in a better shift. PSG aren't world-beaters at all . . . . and we are far from competitive when lacking form or key players through injury. Like tonite.

Still, I'm looking forward to the match tonite immensely. Keep it quiet for 25-30 minutes and let's get about them!

I can only see a loss for us tonight. Would not be surprised to see us beaten by 3 goals. Nothing i have seen in the last few games and then the injury list gives me much hope of a result.

Johnnymac, you must also watch a lot of Zenit to be so sure in your prediction? I'll admit to not being a big follower of Russian football.

Not so doom and gloom as Johnnymac lol. but I can see were he’s coming from, our form at the moment not just in defence but through the team would suggest we’re in for a tough nite! If Partick can get 2 against that defence then zenit will fancy a few! But I’m holding out hope that we somehow get our act together and maybe sneak a narrow victory! But there’s players in that team who need to step up there game for that to happen! Sinclair Dembele Lustig Jozo are the ones that spring to mind! If they can put in a performance and we’ve got brown KT and Forrest on form like they have been then there’s no reason we can’t get a result! But I suppose it’s a big if lol!

I still fancy Paris to go through. They only need 2.0 and for me too looked the better team. They missed a few great chances and were uncharacteristicly slack at times.

Real are not even in the woods yet.
