Anne Williams posthumously awarded The Helen Rollason Award tonight - a remarkable woman who lost her 15 year old Son at Hillsborough and never have up the campaign for the truth.

A truly well deserved award.

Does anyone have any idea how long Filip Twardzik is still out for?

The reason I ask is that with Ledleys contract situation and possible departure in January I think this is the ideal time to blood the likes of Twardzik in. I don't think Rogic has impressed the coaching staff enough in training and McGeough just isn't getting near. From what I seen of him last season I think Twardzik has plenty to offer and when we are opening up a lead at the top of the table surely this is the time to give the young guys a go rather than the very occassional performances of some of our our high earning senior player.

{Ed007's Note - Twardzik is due back early in the new year.}

Would much rather see the young boy mcgregor come back from notts county as he was sent out for game time and experience. he's had that so show that going out and getting games under your belt and doing well can be a benefit to getting a chance at first team lineup. There are others like fisher twardzic rogic mcgeouch balde who should consider doing the same, go on loan get game time put in good performances and come back confident in your ability ready to start and match fit. If they can't cut it on loan then maybe they can't cut it at celtic, it's time to stop saying they have potential and never get game time.

Thanks for the info Ed.

I agree Jim regarding loans but think we should take it one step further. I would bring back the reserve league rather than this development rubbish. These young guys will be getting game time with and against senior pro's coming back from injury and just looking for game time.

Ppl have a go at the board for different reason and calling for a change, I wan a change to and that is in lettin contracts run down, we can't let that happen given the economy. With Sammy and Ledley about to walk I just don't see how the board could let this happen. They have been top players and now we will not get good money for them, why do they wait until the contracts are up before thinking of getting them signed? They should have had this covered a year or so ago in having them on 2 year extension and then sell them for top money. Ledley ran down contract before so he is known for it and should pay him and Sammy a small raise to get them signed and then sell on for top money instead of nothing now.
Just dosent seem like good buisness sense because the board could not or choose not to see this happening and costing the club good money. Letting this happen on a number of times is the scary thing. You have any idea why Ed? Or an opinion on it?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I have no idea why the club has allowed itself to get into this position regarding players' contracts. You would have thought the board (and the fans) would have learnt their lesson after getting it's trousers pulled down with the way Larsson left.
My own opinion is that the club should actively look to sell any player who is entering the final year of their contract. Basically I would give the player a choice, sign an extension or be sold. If no suitable offer is made then come January the player should be told they will either sign an extension, be sold for a nominal fee or they will be made to train with the youths/reserves and won't be considered for selection until their contract issue is resolved.
If they sign a pre-contract with anyone else or still don't sign an extension with CFC, just let them train with the youths/reserves but insist they will not play for the club again, at any level.
I would much rather see young player getting invaluable first-team experience than a player who is planning his exit and who will offer nothing long term to the team.}

Cheers Ed, if they would solve this problem with contracts it will give money that they don't expect since they allow it to happen instead of getting the money. I mean we could sell them for a total of 6-8 mill maybe, with this it could go straight to a quality striker. They are letting money walk and instead of saying we have to balance the book, this money off the books could bring a striker in without spend the money they usually use. For how well we are, this fails on the buisness side of things which has puzzled me

I think they do try to get them resigned up to 18months before and every four months thereafter. Do you think PL and the board are a slouch at this? They're pros at this and know more than us lot. They think of these issues on a daily basis.
Players and their agents deliberately hedge their bets and let contracts run down, its a strategy trend these days.
To not play them but still pay them and risk losing games or a cup or title by playing youth is reckless. Cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Yes I do think PL and the board are slouches at this, otherwise two of our better players wouldn't be in the position of signing for another club in 2/3 weeks time, I'd have thought that is glaringly obvious.
Do you think that is smart business sense, or are you one of those that think PL and the board can do no wrong? Look what happened with Larsson or with Samaras last contract negotiations, he made the fans pay for a bonus that he had promised Larsson if he seen his contract out and he reneged on the loyalty bonus Samaras was due or the Greek would have been a distant memory to us.
Why should we play players who are not committed to the team or club, it's not cutting anything off to spite anything, it's about looking after the long term good of the team and club.
Basically these players are saying they no longer want to play for the club, and you think that's ok, we should play them?
Oh and your very first sentence is bollox, negotiations are ongoing until a stalemate is reached, this isn't FM or FIFA when a wee alert pops up on PL's computer that it's 4 months since he spoke to a player's agent.
Can you justify why you think it's acceptable that our club could lose at least £5/6m worth of talent for nothing?}

@2, if you read in my op you might see we are saying the samething, yet you want to throw in this spit your nose nonsense. I like the board and what they have done to put us in the best financial place ever, but like you and I agree they are buisness men and do think about it daily yet still we have the problem and that's troubling. I said give them thier raise so what ever thier motive may be, they are likely to take the money right away because it will be more tempting to make more money and run out contract then not. For the board to mess up a contract by letting t run out should not happen unless the player wants to leave, for paying a player a little extra for a short time is nothing if we can get the most transfer money out of them. Where as flip side they don't tempt the player in pay raise as much as possible and lose the player for nothing is truley shocking.

Agree0 Disagree0

@3) come on m8. Don't you think the board try all that obvious stuff? And more skillful stuff unmentioned. It's not rocket science. These particular two and their agents want to clearly run down contracts and pocket their own sign on fee and higher wages elsewhere.
Personally, I think its time Ledley and samaras left. I think their CL contributions were guff.

Agree0 Disagree0

At very worse, we should look to give them a contract that is some sort of a compromise, get them signed up, so what if we pay them £5K more per week, flog them in the summer for a fee, simple maths but I fear it's about PL's ego at this stage. PL thinks he's supreme negotiator, don't get me wrong, PL does a fantastic job but he gets things wrong too, just like all of us. Sammy and Ledley must be worth surely £6 - £8 million between them, how much will it cost us to replace them, say £8m, minimum net difference of £14m. Makes no sence at all. PL get over yourself.

Agree0 Disagree0

@4, ya I do think they try but they only come out publicly about trying to get players signed in thier last year or months to go, like Sammy and Ledley. Look what they are doing with Lustig, already starting to get him on a new contract with still lot of time to go on his contract. He is important to the club so why didn't this happen with Sammy and Ledley? Negotiations take time so why begin when it is tempting for the player to receive other offers? Now with Lustig we will get full quality money for him as he is a great player. Sammy is at world cup and if he does great and clubs come calling, instead of cashing in big he can just walk. Point is with Sam and Ledley we only heard they were trying to sign them in thier last year when should have happened a year prior to protect our club and ensure we benifit from it

When I saw the headline in the papers this morning LENNY- I WAS WRONG, I thought NL was admitting that he got the team wrong v Barcelona. It was me that was WRONG.

With arsenal losing 6-3 and spurs losing 5-0 with the world class players they have at their disposal, perhaps celtic fans will the see the barcelona result in a different light.Money dosent always guarantee success. jimbhoy.

Well I suppose that was an acceptable display and result given our turmoil this week. At least we tried to keep playing and deserved to win.

One thing you can say about Butcher is he knows how to set up a tight and motivated team.I also think he got lucky with the weather as our passing, through a packed defence remember, needed to be precise and sharp.The weather dictated this would be difficult, but we did control the game a couple of scares apart.

Butcher's other stroke of luck was the referee, Madden, seemed determined not to book any Hibs player. As at Easter Road I thought the Hibs players were niggly and late with their tackles all day.If the Ref had applied the laws properly they would have been walking a tightrope in slippy conditions. Maybe this was in the back of his mind?

Very pleased for Pukki who, again, made selfless clever runs to open a space for others to get in to.All things considered a good win and still unbeaten. And well done everyone who made it on a feckin miserable day.

couldnt agree more mate. was pleased not to see samaras in as I think our passing detoriates when he's in the team. yesterday we played with a nice shape and passed the ball around. obviously not easy to score playing through 6 at the back most of thhe game but well done pukki

also for who saw the game do you not think that would of been the game for balde as we crossed the ball into the box numerous times but with no stand out player to get on end of it

only thing I don't get is why go to bring him on with 20/30 seconds left in the game. counts as an apperance and give fickle people more a reason to criticise without actually knowing anything. ed what you think the deal is with balde cause when I have saw him he has looked much improved but still can't really get the game time. would like him and pukki up top next game

How is pitching a £14m team against a £250m team supposed to be a sporting event and good entertainment?

It's not!

Start spreading the money Uefa and making it a genuinely sporting competition.

Domestically, Celtic have listened to the other clubs and increased our share to them and decreased our winning prizemonies. How about the same common sense being offered to us by Uefa? It's for the survival of the game.

Celtics poor euro performance will result in less money going to the other SP clubs this year.
