Hi, new to the site. Any more news on Alfie Finndogaso as I've just watched a video of all his goals and he looks awesome? {Ed007's Note - Welcome to the site Scotty, there is nothing new on Finnbogason.}

Ed is the news true about ibrox and Murray park being sold and rented back to them heard this a few times today and thought u might be able to shed light on it as u r a man in the know! {Ed007's Note - Thanks lol Yes it seems to be an option that has been looked at again.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

A new club without their own training grounds and stadium.
Just to extend the inevitable by another six months. The admin toxicity will be huge but I'm sure KPMG will cut through it quickly and go straight to liquidation. Why? Because there will be no assets for a CVA.

Is the game on itv 4 on Tuesday I heard it was but I can't find it anywhere? {Ed007's Note - The programme starts at 15.45, it is a 16.00 or 16.15 k.o. time.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

STV also showing it now :)

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Aug 2013 23:06:09
if cqn is right would the selling of ibrox be a good move as this would get rid of the cost to bring the stadium up to scratch very clever move making owners responsible for repairs with estimates at 9m plus

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No if Ibrox requires upgrading then that will either be reflected in the initial price or subsequent rents. If the rents rise to far then we could see the rangers kicked out of Ibrox and the site redeveloped

Seems that this Teemu Pukki rumour is all smoke and mirrors. Finnbogason is the man Lennon wants and what Lennon wants, Lennon gets eventually.

A bid has been turned down for teemu pukki from shalke. Bid went in last night and was turned down the lad only has 12 months on his contract so I would imagine we offered peanuts . I'm well and truly sick of the same old story at celtic park, we lost three of our best players from last season not to mention another 5 first team players off the books we have made 20million from those transfers alone not to mention the cash from the champions league . We have. Signed four new players for around about 6 1/2 million pounds ok fair enough not to bad but we are well short in midfield and especially up front the club have dithered in getting a finisher with ability and let's be honest there are a lot out there John parks might be a good scout but by the looks of the things the rest of the backroom and the board are falling way short, I've been a celtic fan for 34 years and Never. Never have we been in a position so strong to distance ourselves from everyone else.

Celtic Always!

Agree0 Disagree0

Short in midfield are u kidding one of our stronger areas I'd say so much so we are putting the next lot of CMders on loan to Kilmarnock.

Brown Ledley Kayal Boselecta Forrest Matthews(if needed) hardly suspect in midfield.

Agree0 Disagree0

A2) we have four central midfielders Ledley, brown, kayal and rogic . On the flanks we have Forrest derk digger commons and mcgeoch I know we can play Matthews in midfield but he is a def just as sammy and watt are both strikers but play in the hole or on the left me personally I would like another midfielder in but at the moment I would say our main objective is to sign one or two strikers
It is of course only my opinion .

I'm just wondering if anyone would be happy spending 5 million on Finbogasson at the expense of another centre half and midfielder? I think there probably is money to spend but it will more likely be 1 to 2 million each for 3 players rather than the majority on 1.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yes and no.
Spending 5m to get a bit of quality is the right thing to do.
But it doesn't have to be Finnbogason.

If it's true that we have offered peanuts for Finnbogason then I'm disgusted. We demand top dollar for our players then put in pathetic offers for players we want. Heerenveen want 5 Mill Euros for Alfie and we won't pay it. With the money we have made from last season and the player sales from this 5 Mill Euros is nothing, It's not even breaking the bank.

Time for Lawwell to start delivering what the fans want.

I'm all for this buy cheap and sell young, but not for every bloody player.

For once I'd like to see us speculate to accumulate and not speculate to accommodate.

Get the money paid to Heerenveen.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

All this shouting about Alfie boy and not one word from him or his agent. We don't even know what kind of wage he wants and he is on record as saying he does not fancy playing in Scotland! Yet still the club get a pounding from our own fans!. green jhedi

Agree0 Disagree0

Somebody said on here his wages fall well into Celtics bracket.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree GJ, we don't know all the facts but what I do know is we are it dire need of a Centre Forward who can replace Gary Hooper.

If we do qualify for the CL, that's another guaranteed 20m plus. Celtic must have a plan, the window closes days after our last qualifying game. Nobody can tell me Celtic are just going to see what CF are available after the Karagandy game.

Regardless, there's the Europa League and I don't think many a Celtic fan will relish going into that either with the team we have.

The only other option I can think is a loan signing but it would have to be a right guid yin! Mrs E

Can someone please tweet Lenny with an impassioned plea to spend a small portion of the massive amount of money Celtic have brought in from transfers and CL to sign Finnbogasson please? The guy is young and will have sell on value, is a proven scorer in a good league at a smaller team and is practically begging Celtic to sign him, almost mirrored Henriks career so far! Push the boat out please, give something back to the fans, its bloody cold in inverness in december but we're there, on mass. Lenny, Lawell and co stop this Arsenal nonsense about kid on interest in players and actually buy what we badly need, we've got a good thing going, now get some baws and take it to the next level!!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Spot on mate we deserve it finbogasson is an exceptional talent and i'm struggling to believe the asking price is only five million would be gutted if we let this one slip through the net! Lawell needs to get the check book out!

I really don't understand it. I will never say anything about the running of our club as they do a great job but we got the same money heevereen are looking for for a guy with 6 months on a contract. Take a gamble celtic. The guy looks the real deal!

Agree0 Disagree0

Begging to sign? Where is that then.I did see a statement that he does not fancy Scotland though so where does that leave us?. green jhedi

Agree0 Disagree0

How do we know he is an exceptional talent? One good season and you tube don't make someone exceptional or the finished article that everyone on here say he is.

Agree0 Disagree0

He lived in scotland when younger and played youth football, and apparently supports Hibs.

Agree0 Disagree0

WERE Alfred Finnbogason to write an autobiography, Scotland would be its recurring theme.

The Icelandic striker, whose 28 goals for Heerenveen this season have attracted a long queue of scouts to the Dutch club’s Abe Lenstra Stadium, admits that his connections with this country have played a significant role in his development.

Two years of his childhood were spent living in Edinburgh, where he played boys’ football for Hutchison Vale. His hero at that time was Henrik Larsson. His first European match was for Breidablik against Motherwell. The highlights of his international career include the under-21 play-off between Iceland and Scotland at Easter Road three years ago.

Now, after a remarkably prolific season, the 24-year-old centre forward finds himself linked with West Ham United, Sunderland, Everton, Aston Villa, even AC Milan, although the smart money is on a move to the Bundesliga.

“I know that a few clubs are interested, ” says Finnbogason. “There is a long way from interest to being bought, but I think something will happen in the summer. I have had a good season and Heerenveen has a history of good strikers that they sell to bigger clubs so I would like to go in the same direction.”

Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Jon Dahl Tomasson and Georgios Samaras are among those have come and gone from Heerenveen, bought on the cheap, given a platform and sold on for a hefty profit. “Van Nistelrooy is a player I looked up to a lot when I was growing up, ” says Finnbogason. “He was a fox in the box, which is something I try to emulate. My strength is in the opponents’ penalty area, being alert when others are not.”

To be mentioned in the same breath as those players, which his manager, Marco van Basten, has already done this season, is what Finnbogason dreamed of at the age of nine. That was when his father moved the family to Scotland so that he could spend two years studying at Edinburgh University. Alfred attended Blackhall Primary School, took up golf at Silverknowes and played football for “Hutchie Vale”, the boys’ club renowned for producing future professionals.

“I remember we had a really good team, ” he says. “We were under-9s, but we played under 10s, and we won every game. I don’t know if any of the players are playing professionally now but, at that time, we were by far the best boys’ team in Edinburgh.

“It was a fantastic time in my life, a big influence on me. It meant that, in future, when I went abroad, I was able to stand on my own two feet. The earlier you do that, the better prepared you are. And to be in Scotland, where it is all about football. that was only good for me.”

Finnbogason went with a friend to watch Hibs in those days, but he doesn’t pretend to be a fan. Victor Palsson, the Icelandic midfield player, late of the Edinburgh club, sometimes keeps him up to date with events at Easter Road but the striker has come a long way since then.

After making a name for himself in his homeland, where he won the title with Breidablik, a move to Belgian club Lokeren didn’t work out, and it was a six-month loan to Swedish club Helsingborgs that caught the eye. In Larsson’s own backyard, he earned himself a move to Holland with one goal and five assists in a Champions League qualifying round against Slask Wroclaw.

“Larsson was the player I looked up to when I was in Scotland, the one I wanted to emulate. Now, I have followed in his footsteps by playing for Helsingborgs, where he started, and in Holland. So it’s all moving in the right direction.”

Finnbogason has also benefited from working with Van Basten, the legendary Dutch striker who is rebuilding his managerial career after unsuccessful spells with Ajax and the national team. “If you have a coach who played in your position, he knows how you think, how you feel in the game, and those little things can really help you. It’s been a privilege to play under him. If you don’t learn from the best, you don’t learn from anybody.”

The identity of Finnbogason’s next boss is the burning question. If the speculation is any guide, there are plenty of possibilities, although he is likely to be too expensive for Neil Lennon. The Celtic manager, who wants an old-fashioned striker to play through the middle, was interested last season, when Finnbogason, on loan from Lokeren, scored 12 goals in 17 appearances for Helsingborgs, but his value has soared since.

Finnbogason, though, is not in the business of ruling anything out, including a move to the country where he lived 15 years ago. “My first European game was against Motherwell. For Iceland, I played against Scotland at Easter Road. Just after I left Helsingborgs, they came up against Celtic in the Champions League. In one way or another, Scotland is always calling me, so you never know.

“At the moment, I think there is only one club I would play for in Scotland and that’s Celtic. It’s a huge club and they play in the Champions League. It would be appealing to play for such a big European club. The Larsson history would make it even better but I want to make the best decision possible for my career. I’m not going to come back to Scotland just for old time’s sake.”

Another option for Finnbogason is to stay put, which isn’t such a bad idea. Heerenveen, where he still has two years of his contract to run, are every Dutchman’s second-favourite team, a club so modest and sensible that they are impossible to dislike. They suit Finnbogason down to the ground. “It’s a perfect match, ” he says. “If you are being linked with the bigger clubs in the best leagues in the world, you must be doing something right, but I’m a pretty down-to-earth guy. If a good offer comes my way in the summer, of course I will take a look but, at the moment, I’m just trying to focus on Heerenveen.”

This seems to contradict a lot of the beliefs posted on here about him not fancying Celtic, read into it what you will.

Fully expect to see someone come in soon wasnt realistic that we would sign anyone of note over last few days due to them being with thier international teams for the break. Had a bid rejected for Pukki but expected to make a second bid for him. I think he would be a very good signing. When you look at his goals to time on the pitch ratio in the Bundesliga, it's very impressive - as are his stats at Helsinki. He has pace and can definitely finish well.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Can't believe this could happen as who would trust this mob with a loan. What is a lump of real estate worth in Govan at today's prices? That's all I can think about with this deal as the Sevconians will be bust by early next year, leaving Ibrokes and the Albion ready for re-developement. Murky Park is a different story. If a developer could manage to get an outline planning decision, the land up there could be worth a few bob. Is this the real reason for this shady deal?

Celtic will not be making any signings until after they have qualified for the Champions League. I am ITK as my friend is on the Celtic Board. Clubs are currently asking too much for players but the board believe prices will drop drastically as soon as our qualification for Europe is confirmed.

~seamus~

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would imagine prices would go UP, on qualification! dd

So clubs will drop the asking price once they know we have qualified and therefore have even more cash to spend? One word . bo11ocks!

So Longmuir got £400k of the £1m the spl gave the SFL.
It needs to be handed back. The SFL board knew nothing of these payments yet they legally had to authorize it. Only a guy called Ballantyne says he knew and he's hardly a remuneration committee.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

15 Aug 2013 12:54:01
Given that Celtic have taken £25 million from the Champions League and another £20 million from player sales in the recent past (£45 million), I think that sticking entirely to £2 - £3 million 'bargains' as a transfer policy would show a real lack of ambition by the board. The money is there so whilst I agree that some of it should be put away for a rainy day, you still have to speculate to get better. Finnbogason's stats and youtube clips look good (inevitably!), 'though I've not seen him play live but it's clear that we will have to pay £5 mill or so for a proven striker one way or another. Any less than that and it will have to be a bit of a punt. We have a billionaire major shareholder who doesn't seem to want to let Lennon spend the money HE'S earned! Splash some of the cash I reckon - the simple fact is that if we don't buy Finnbogason, or somebody in a similar price-range, we probably won't get anybody better than our existing strikers unless we're really lucky.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You use the phrase a 'bit of a punt' regarding any striker other than Finbogasson.Every striker is a bit of a punt unless they are well established in a top league and a proven international.

I do wish people would stop pulling massive figures out of the air regarding transfers without realising the costs in running our club, not to mention the taxes. We are healthy because of CL income last year. You could buy Messi and still not reach it with three qualifiers. A bad bounce, a bad decision by a ref or a couple of injuries and your in trouble.

Look across the city at what chasing the CL does to clubs. green jhedi

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said green Jedi, am sick of hearing it now. People seem to have no idea about how expensive running a club the size of ours is. If we fail to get to the group stages we will be needing every last penny just to survive. There is no guarantee we will make the group stages next year either. If the rumor that forster is leaving for 10 million is true then lenny should be given that money to improve our side. ALL OF IT. If not I think we should stick to our 2-3 million budget per player. We don't need to spend 5 million on anyone. Didn't fortune cost around that? Larrson cost 650k, hoops 2 million. I could go on and on. Paying a lot of money doesn't mean your getting a good player.

Darrenbhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree with post 1, absolutely 100% and I too am sick of people going on about costs of running the club eating into the money from CL and miney made from our tendancy to sell our best players.

What does the TV money, season tickets, match day money and huge amounts of merchandising go towards then? Surely it's not asking too much to spend a fraction of the profits!

Yes I know what happened to sevco but that was years and years of massive overspending, coupled with corruption and lots of back pocketing so let's not compare anymore because the circumstances don't even come close to comparing.

Gary

Agree0 Disagree0

Well Gary I'm with GJ and Darrenbhoy on this one, the only reason we would need to buy the like's of finnbogsan is to see how far we could go in the champion's league, no other reason because the league will be won with or without him. Yes £5 million is a lot of money so I can understand were PL is coming from, also who is to say it is not the boy himself who is reluctant to sign until we come through the qualifier, so don't jump on the bandwagon and blame it on Celtic until the fact's are known. I remember when we nearly went to the wall (Fergus god bless him ) don't want to go through that again. So let's all calm down and let PL do his job.
Tambhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Tambhoy, this is not just to do with winning the SPL and hoping for CL each year, football is an entertainment business and most of the time you get what you pay for. All i'm saying is for a change i'd like to see a bit of class added in there, having taken in so much money over the past couple of years is spending say £9 million on 2 or 3 decent players going to send us bust? I really don't think so. NL has said for the past 2 years he would be replacing quantity with quality, well obviously the new boys might step up but we ain't seen it yet.
We've got about 7 off the wage bill and sold our two best players plus big Kelvin, let's get real here. No ones asking to risk the clubs future but come on!

Gary

Agree0 Disagree0

GJ
I think our position is slightly different to them lot over the road. They actually believed they could chase overall Champions League victory and spent money accordingly while we seem content to see qualification for the group stages as a victory in itself.
Maybe there's good reason behind that limited ambition because we are never going to compete with the really big guns.

With the news that there is to be an investigation into SFL chief blazer Longmuir's bonus payments, and the rumours of Airdrie chairman Ballantyne receiving kickbacks from these, it is clear that Scottish football is at best inept and at worst corrupt.

The fact that Longmuir, who was flag waving for rangers/sevco for months, has been linked to a job at the debt dome comes as no surprise either. It proves what we have all known for years. There was, and is, people of influence in the Scottish game who's main objective is to help whatever monstrosity plays out of the debt dome.

From Farry holding up a Celtic signing to Dallas and sectarian e-mails through to 'Dougiegate' and Bryson, an SFA employee, blowing the dual contract investigation enquiry we have been shafted for years. Why are the leaders of our club so silent on these matters?

At the very least we should demand the contents of the secretive 'five point agreement' be shown in full to ALL fans of Scottish teams. Or do the directors of the other SPFL teams already know it's contents and are satisfied with them? If so, why the need for secrecy? Might it be that the furore the contents would induce among fans would be so severe that clubs grounds would be empty? There is something explosive contained in this document and we deserve to know. After all it is us, and fans of EVERY other club, who have been providing the ridiculous sums involved in payments to the like of Longmuir. green jhedi

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You won't find any argument from the vast majority of Celtic fans regarding the corruption, Hidden agendas and not-so hidden agendas against Celtic.
However I am 'mature' enough to remember Sir Robert Kelly - and although he had his faults - he always stood his ground and fought the Celtic corner against the SFA and any other body that appeared to show biased or double standards.
The Celtic Board today, have stayed silent in the light of a conveyor belt of rule bending, dubious dealings and Governing body(s) members with conflicting interests for too long.

John Guidetti from Man City would be great signing or Mauro Icardi. Both showing great potential

I may be the only one to post this, but I am willing to bet there are loads of lads/lassies out there who feel like this.
1. I am not a nutter.
2. I LOVE CELTIC FC
3. I am not a huge Scotland fan. why?.
BECAUSE OF THE ESTABLISHMENT!
I actually as a 14yo walked from Carmyle in the East end of Glasgow to Hampden.AND BACK AGAIN, to watch Scotland in the Rous Cup v Colombia! 0-0! Never again! Totally corrupt SFA! I only care about Celtic FC.Scottish football can die for all I care. {Ed007's Note - I'm old enough to remember times like CFC players getting booed, Scotland fans singing The Sash during a game against Argentina, then there was the sectarian abuse my school football team were subjected to from Scotland fans when we were invited to a game back in the 80's and it was announced over the tannoy.}

Cant get on board with this mate. i'm Celtic through and through and also love the national team. sometimes you need to separate the bad from the good. there's persons everywhere but it shouldn't shape ya

Sorry, can't agree regarding the National team. I still love to see them do well. I was fortunate that I was not brought up in a sectarian type household. I knew what it was all about so not blind. My dad always said he would never pay to go to ibrokes and for one reason only. He would never give hard earned money to a club which practiced sectarianism and rangers (unwritten policy) was to never sign a Catholic put them in that category. TinyTim

Agree with poster sfa corrupt not fit for purpose think back to Cadette registration may have cost us league that year and tommy his job then our current manager lenny had to go to court to prove corrupt match bans while letting sneaky of the hook and still doing everything to help sevco at any cost

I really didn't enjoy standing in the pissing rain at hampden while the currant buns stood in the covered end that says it all mm

Last night Scotland was led out by Celtic’s Captain and an ex Celtic Manager and that’s before you think of the late Tommy Burns involvement. Its time to move on!

I enjoy International tournaments like the World Cup and the Euros, its maybe not for everyone which is fine.

On a wee footnote, the hypocrisy of anyone born and bred in Scotland who has ever said a word against a Celtic Fan supporting Republic of Ireland and then hoping for a England win hmmm brain dead logic ~ Mrs E

@6 Mrs E I respect your input but do you really believe if Rangers were still here Scott Brown would have led out Scotland, I certainly don't, I remember what happened to Jinky and Davie Hay
