Time was that if you wanted a big move you first went to one of the big dutch clubs PSV Ajax. Then it became the Portugese clubs Porto Benfica Sporting. If Dembele and Simanovic get big moves then the club to come too must be Celtic agents and young players will be looking at this and thinking that is where i want to be. With our record of developing young foriegn talent we could cherry pick some great players.

14 Nov 2016 22:53:36
Jonace I agree with you however there is no point in getting players like dembele and then losing him or any other outstanding talent after just one season. Agents and players may see Celtic as a stepping stone to bigger and better things (mainly cash) but we need to be holding onto these players for more than one season if we as a club want to progress, otherwise our main focus is in developing players who we can sell on rather than becoming a better Football team so I hope Dembele and Simanovic will be with us for another 2 seasons at least. Dembele signed a 4 year contract so he is signed till 2020.

Celtic watching 19 year old Charlton centre half Ezri Konsa.

I have a good feeling about Dembele, we will have him for a minimum of 2 yrs more likely 3 . Having decided to come to Celtic he must be exceeding all expectations with us and so it just wouldn't make any sense to leave prematurely.

What a goal from Dembele V England U21s.

B****** i hope the EPL managers aren't watching, i was hoping he would play sh*** lol. Lawwell will be rubbing his hands together as the big mans transfer fee rises lol.

was wee Roberts in the England u21 squad tonight?

Agree2 Disagree0

14 Nov 2016 23:23:03
No not selected this time.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Nov 2016 01:56:01
Cheers Leeds, there must be some great wingers in that squad then if the wee man isn't picked, in saying that i know he's played for the u19s more recently.

Agree3 Disagree0

15 Nov 2016 11:14:58
Jamesbhoy Roberts is struggling to get a game for us so I don't see why your surprised he's not getting played at national level? It's going to be a big challenge for the boy in the second half of the season. There no doubt he has talent but will he be able to show it and command a place in our or any other team on a regular basis?

Agree0 Disagree5

15 Nov 2016 11:41:56
When did i say i was surprised? i just asked a simple question was he in the squad? and Leeds answered it for me, he should be in our team every week in front of the dud hair fixer Forrest.

Agree5 Disagree0

15 Nov 2016 13:44:07
IMO Roberts should be ahead of Forrest generally, but he hasn't been playing week in week out for us. So when you have the likes of Redmond and Watmore playing regularly in the EPL, it's sort of expected.

Agree0 Disagree4

15 Nov 2016 14:22:12
its a ploy by us to lower the wee mans valuation jim lol.

Agree1 Disagree0

15 Nov 2016 15:47:21
Sorry to get your knickers in a twist jamesbhoy ๐Ÿ˜‚Your original question was simple but your subsequent reply suggested a degree of surprise with they must have great wingers for him not to be selected. I also hope he gets a run in the team but it's petty to run Forrest down when he clearly hasn't been a dud this season imo.

Can't think of a great deal of imput from forrest in last few games would like to see him rested and roberts given the nod.

15 Nov 2016 19:58:45
I wish jamesbhoy mate. My gut feeling right now is that Roberts isn't staying permanently, and BR knows it.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Roberts is not in City's plans and he is available.}

15 Nov 2016 20:55:51
Would love to see us making Roberts a permanent signing, the wee man has a lot to offer n will go on to be a top player n if available we should get that sorted pronto. Him rogic n sinclair with dembele up front is 1 I love to see starting, so many goals, assists n creativity in that forward line.

Kept that nugget quiet Edo! What sort of figure are you talking/ thinking? I'm sure I read (might have been on here) that City haven't pay Fulham anywhere near the reported 12m.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I've no idea how much City will be looking for but you're right about the money Fulham have actually received, the reported ยฃ11/12m was the total package including a pile of add-ons depending on Paddy's success with City, PL & CL apps etc.
Whether we can make it happen will obviously depend on how much City want for him (I don't foresee them being difficult to deal with and maybe a sell on clause would sweeten the deal) the wages he's looking for and if Rodgers wants him of course, but I do think the player would be happy to stay up here if it's possible.}

15 Nov 2016 22:16:00
Thanks big man.

{Ed007's Note - No probs, JT (yes)

16 Nov 2016 00:14:22
I know many of us felt we would be better selecting the team ahead of R D, and you know that might be right .
However I for one haven't lost any faith in Brendan Rodgers who is working with his players nearly every day and up to now he seems happier to pick Forrest before Roberts .
Brendan is going on what he and his coaches have seen this year and is not carrying prejudice from previous seasons.

Agree0 Disagree1

16 Nov 2016 10:02:02
Dont think anyone is trying to pick the team per say but we've been here with forrest a few times now.
I'm not saying he's been rubbish the last few games but in comparison to how he started the season he's definitely not maintained that form.

BR doesn't have the luxury of knowing a great deal about the previous seasons with forrest but us fans do.

Agree3 Disagree0

16 Nov 2016 19:50:37
It's the same with any position, look at lg, gets injured dembele comes in and lg has to wait. Forrest started well but has went off form, as he has in previous seasons n at present Roberts is the more on form player, certainly since Roberts has saw a bit more game time.
Same as if dembele goes off form or gets injured, it's called competition n is healthy for a squad. As for Rd old bhoy pity he wasn't given the same backing as brendan n with what he had he didn't do to shabbily. your comment regards rd if it was from anyone else u would be all over them but it's not ok to criticise Forrest or state facts, strange.
Hail hail.

17 Nov 2016 10:54:22
Ed, where are you getting your info re Roberts not being in the plans at City? I intuitively agree with that, but, I intuitively think I'm a good singer. The evidence though is as rare as a treble round paid for by my brother.

Well, maybe not that rare but you get where I'am going.

{Ed007's Note - Someone told me.}

17 Nov 2016 11:19:04
I have more chance of consistency in winning the lottery than Forrest has in football terms. He has improved, but, the level of dross he was at doesn't suddenly make him a player. He still, at 25 find a good final baw. He still misses too many chances. He fades out of every game. I think he just lacks that awareness and ability to complete any good play he does. More often than not he will beat a player, fly down the wing then shank a rubbish pass over.

It's like Asda home good delivery.

If the driver executes a magnificent three point turn out of the depot, then drives with exquisite precision, avoiding lights, overtaking flawlessly, you wouldn't think of any of that if he dropped off your messages three hooses doon, would you?

That's Forrest.

Mousa Dembele is 15/ 8 to score anytime tonight against England U21, decent odds I think given the form he has been in.

2nd goal from Moussa, crack free kick from the edge of the box, never knew he had that in his arsenal, really needs to stop playing like this or we will struggle to hold on to him.

It's a pity re L Griffiths, after eventually proving himself a top class striker at Celtic, he picks up a short-term injury and a young whipper snapper comes in and brings a new level to the lone Celtic striker role . Brendan isn't keen on changing his starting formation to 2 up front and the little he has tried it hasn't been a success.

Agree0 Disagree1

14 Nov 2016 16:52:42
This S. Gerard rumour seems to be gaining momentum. I haven't seen the guy since he left Liverpool so can someone assure me he still has the legs for it at 36. If not I'm struggling to see where he fits into our Brendan's pressing game? Outstanding McStayesque player in his day but has that day not gone? Younger hungrier version would suit me as we definitely need a bit of dig next to Brown. If the captain gets injured there is no immediately obvious replacement although I think Celtic could play with me in the middle (10 men as I could be SGs da) and still win the league ๐Ÿ€.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

14 Nov 2016 17:48:28
Pointless signing in my opinion
Do we need him to win the league?
No
Will he take us to a new level in Europe
No
All he will do is block players like henderson getting a game.
we are building for years of domestic domination and trying to make a impact best we can on Europe.
An 18 month marquee signing of a player by his best doesn't help with that.

Agree4 Disagree0

14 Nov 2016 17:49:51
Here's the thing about SG. He was a fantastic player, when he was a CAM. Behind the striker (s) . Him being a CDM is a myth and there are much more cost effective players out there who could improve that dept. of the team. Sure he can play CM, it's all football, he can still spray a pass; y'know, that one diagonal pass he does, and he does it well. But for me, what we need in the middle there is a ball winner. Tackling, interceptions, that sort of thing, not Steven Gerrard.

Agree1 Disagree0

14 Nov 2016 18:30:57
have we not got enough ex liverpool pensioner duds on the books?

Agree15 Disagree0

14 Nov 2016 19:06:34
Gerard def better CAM, and also completely unneeded at Celtic Park. Think it's harsh to suggest Toure is a dud. Reckon he will playa part in rest of season and younger players will be benefitting from his presence in training. BMG mistakes were awful but he hadn't done much wrong prior to that and stepped forward and put his hand up admirably. Unless we can sign real quality in January to bed in for qualifiers, I wouldn't be bothered if no one came in during next window.

Agree0 Disagree6

14 Nov 2016 19:43:27
Not bothered if Gerard comes or not but his signing would pay for itself with shirt sales people keep saying there is better out there but no one has mentioned one of these better out there players.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - The only way Celtic make any extra money from shirt sales is if they are bought through the Club's official outlets. We could sign Messi in January and the Club would make very little from the extra shirt sales.}

14 Nov 2016 19:45:33
i don't know any Celtic fan who would play Toure before Sviatchenko and Simunovic. Toure and Gerrard were good players in their day but now at their age they will get found out for pace in European football.

Agree12 Disagree0

14 Nov 2016 20:19:32
Toure was brought in at time when we're very short on centre backs and experience in defence. He was needed and played a big part in getting us to the champions league.
It is a different situation with Gerrard.
We have cover in midfield
Some of our player are starting to look like the are really improving
Rogic Armstrong and henderson.
We are cruising the league
We made the champions league
We are in the league cup final
Keep building for years to come is the way we should be going.

Agree0 Disagree7

14 Nov 2016 20:54:11
Gerrards a scumbag and we don't need him near us. Great player on the park in his day but that was years ago.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Nov 2016 21:06:23
Didn't know that ed thanks for the info what's your take on Gerard I know you don't like him but would you have him at Celtic.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Yes mate, if you buy a top from a high street shop the Club gets nothing extra, that retailer gets the profit Celtic would have got if you had bought it from the Club shop. New Balance would be the biggest earners out of us signing a 'box-office name', they've got a signed contract for ยฃ30 million for the next 5 years so if they needed to make an extra 100k strips Celtic wouldn't get a dime extra from NB.
I'd imagine a Club our size and ran the way it is has a clause in the contract that Celtic get a bonus if X amount of strips are sold over the normal projections, perhaps even a yearly review if something major happened.
As for Stevie G, even though I can't stand him from a footballing perspective I just don't see why we would need him, he is nowhere near the player he was and these deals rarely work out, remember Ian Wright, even RoyKeane, Gravesen etc. Off the field we don't need the circus he would bring with him at the Club. It's not for me mate.}

14 Nov 2016 22:54:00
I'm not fussed either way Ed but I'd rather have McCarthy than him.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - So would I buddy, and with no doubts about it.}

15 Nov 2016 14:47:59
Mcarthy all day long no brainer.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Nov 2016 22:53:00
Such players like gerrard can bring great experience and quality to a team I wouldn't be surprised if he went to real madrid.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Nov 2016 00:06:38
A would be replicas, a don't think any top team in Spain would consider him. A canny see him playing for any other team in England bar Liverpool n a doubt klopp would have him in any other role but coach. A don't know if he'll end up here but ad much rather mccarthy. No brainer for me but a can see why Rodgers would want him, he was his general at Liverpool. Maybe he thinks Gerrard n brown would suit each others game a just think it would be a waste of time, the hardest part of the season is done for me, Europe is over in a few weeks unfortunately and we're miles in front domestically so build for next year, get mccarthy in.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Nov 2016 00:23:34
Gerrard may not add much to the playing squad on the pitch but I have a feeling the wife might put an edge on the single players and ensure the wives and girlfriends look after their men better .
Could be good for private relations.

16 Nov 2016 09:51:25
McCarthy I would love to see in the hoops gerrard even at 36 is a great player who has looked after himself I remember henrik larsson at 36 playing for the champions of England with players such as ronaldo Rooney tevez giggs I also remember lubo still playing for celtic at 35.
