I really don't think I can take much more of this....as much as I'm loving every minute of it, the desperation of some of them is quite frankly embarrassing and a little sad. The latest is a link being posted of a petition for HMRC to drop there tax case against the club over EBT's. Good luck with that one, you'll certainly need it

I've just been on the Rangers rumours page, to have a wee laugh.
I saw this, which might create a topic of discussion for Wednesday.

" It may just be coincidence, but do people realise that one of the "advisors" used by Whyte at the time of the takeover is David Grier. He was later appointed as a director I believe, he just happens to be a partner in Duff and Phelps, the company looking after our administration. Some coincidence though! Another "director" Gary Withey, is a solicitor who had experience in the buyout and collapse of Crystal Palace in 1998. Makes you wonder. "

Could this be a fiddle in the making, or just pure coincidence. {Ed007's Note - Do you think it's a coincidence? Whyte appointed him, says enough for me.}

Evening all, what a day! wouldnt like to be a bear tonight, well wouldnt have wanted to be one anyways before the turds have really started to hit the fan.

See the SPL site is down, is this LULSEC? with a denial of service attack? or is this desperate bears hitting the contact us button on the site saying "pleeeesseeee hellp wiz poor wee souls we didnae ken n ahin we wiz pure buryin oor heeds or stickin oor fingurs in oor ears and singin hullo hullo hopin itd ah go awa".

Lubo25 still no table update! is this the laptop loyal at work still? lol ( no bears i am not that paranoid lol)

Gotta say i wasnt one to think liquidation was on its way but now more and more is coming out and the stuff i treated as rumour for months fast became fact. I am now starting to see it as a real possiblity although a very distant one.

Still though will make for lots of interesting reading and viewing over the next wee while till all and sundry is laid before us.

Have to say well done to wee Pat Nevinm the other night, he said the way its looking rangers are stuffing everyone but themselves which is an awful thing to do, but in businss sense it makes perfect sense! Which sadly sums up the whole situation. I really hope we dont see them escape their bills! we all have to pay ours what makes this club any different!

Evinguu

Believable1 Unbelievable0

In a business sense it is not good. Business is about working with other people if they no longer trust you will work for you or will give you work because of previous experience your done for

Why dont we (celtic fans) stop gloating over the sad situation at ibrox and remember it was not too long ago that Fergus McCann saved our butts. {Ed007's Note - If you were there you would understand exactly why CFC fans are gloating.}

Believable0 Unbelievable7

Is that you coisty ?

Lubo25

Agree7 Disagree0

Stop gloating? I was only very wee back then, and i remember the crap you had to go through and that was even growing up in Dundee! (lots of gers fans in the wrong parts of town, where sadly i was mostly brought up)

Im sorry this but sort of situation is ripe for gloating! And not for taking the moral high ground! cos even in saying, pay your bills thats the high ground! and is what that Rangers club should do!

Evinguu

Agree7 Disagree0

How the hell is it a sad situation? its a glorious situation remember they not only cheated the hmrc but all of scottish football with there dodgy dealings if they had been honest its highly unlikely they would have won the trophies they did or attract some of the players they did, they deserve all they get and the sooner the better for all of society(spelling)

Agree8 Disagree0

Even putting aside what we had to put up with pre fergus, gloating when rangers fail at anything should come naturally to every Celtic fan. It may not be big n may not be clever but it's just 1 of these things that has to happen

Mikey Bhoy

Agree5 Disagree0

Mikey Bhoy, i have to agreee there. However i feel gloating is both indeed very big and very clever, but that is just because that is my favorite excuse for anything!

Anyone get the feeling over the year that Whyte has tended to use an excuse similar to "bigger boys did it and ran away sir.... and they took my £1 lunch money"

Evinguu

Agree3 Disagree0

Stop gloating aye right! you obviously never lived through the 90's. The ironic thing about the whole scenario is the very crown they declare their loyalty to is about to bring them to their knees....just cant get enough........Stevie

if im wrong then i will hold my hands up and take the flak.

if someone wants to buy there club would they need to cover all debts outstanding on top of purchase price for the club?

ticketus £24.5m
Whyte £18 m
VAT £9m
transfers due to other clubs £2 m
wee tax bill £3m
more than likely other outstanding bills not paid lets say £1m
and if they lose big tax case £75m

thats roughly £130m just to buy out the debt
its LIQUIDATION if that is the case

Jungle Bhoy. {Ed007's Note - Liquidation is more possible than I thought but I honestly can't see it.}

A good friend of mine who is an Airdrie fan had this to say:-

Feel sorry for rangers supporters and staff but it's ironic that the man ultimately responsible for the debt, David Murray was the man who started airdrieonians on the path to liquidation. Dm in 2000, "I feel sorry for airdrie and their supporters but we are running a business. We have given them repeated warnings and now feel they are praying on our good nature." all over the relatively small sum of £30k.

To think they gave this guy a knighthood

Believable4 Unbelievable1

14 Feb 2012 20:07:15
Ed - I have read you post before that you always believed admin was coming but not liquidation, do you still hold this view?

I ask because i did agree with you all the way but this now looks set for a trade/asset sale out to new co.

I say this because i believed Whyte would use admin to barter down HMRC liabilities paving the way for a new owner. I now believe that HMRC cant reduce their claim for two reasons:
1) Pressure on HMRC to not yield to "big business"
2) Whyte has not (as it appears) kept up to date with "in year" PAYE and VAT obligations.

If i am right HMRC will want to make an example of them and not negotiate any reduced debt.

This being the case, any potential investor has the choice of buying the club with the liabilities and moving on or buying the trade and assets for market value and leaving the liabilities in old co.

The only investor willing to do the former would be somebody with too much money and a desperate need to hold on to the history. I cant see that, when a pre pack liquidation would cause immense pain short term but wipe the debt.

I'm not a laymen but i certainly dont know as much about it as you so only asking for your opinion mate, great site.

Cheers
Nevis {Ed007's Note - I am not as convinced as I was but I still do seriously doubt liquidation will happen. I was told by someone from London even yesterday that it would only be admin, but people have been wrong, I think even some CFC fans have been taken back with the severity of it all. The 'big' tax case could really hurt if it goes against them, all this talk of deals etc is nonsense. HMRC don't mess about.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm astonished by it all. I'm a tax adviser and reasonably knowledgeable about EBT's (though i stress not the "rangers" method of implementation) but i was astounded that the PAYE hadnt been paid since May.
I have had clients use this as short term cash flow when borrowing has been difficult but my word i wouldnt have thought he was up to that!
I think that if Rangers remain in admin they will be forced to bring through youth, i hope we continue to better at that too! Thanks ed {Ed007's Note - Thanks for your input as well mate.}

marty bhoy the cheshire cat {Ed007's Note - I don't know for certain if Ticketus are creditors, but they will be looking for their money, every instalment. That will be due no matter who owns the club I would imagine as it is against Rangers season ticket revenue.}

I used to consider Hearts fans just Rangers fans without the bus fare...in a few months time, could the reverse be true?

When we were on our knees, Fergus believed in the Celtic fans and our love for the club. His decision all those years ago was a stepping stone to the position we are in today so why aren't the apparent "millions" of rangers fans digging deep for their club? Where are the legions of millionaire Rangers supports now? Why hasn't Whyte's warchest helped lower the debt?

If Rangers fans are the people, i for one am glad i'm not one of them.

Am I the only one thinks (regardless of what lawwell says) that in time we will suffer without the mankys? If they go outa business that's the tv money gone and even though it isn't our main income it would still be a blow.also no old firm games would hit us in the pocket no to mention it could get quite boring. Obviously winning the league every year is what we want anyway but without pumpin the h##s it could end up getting quite boring eventually. I mean most people buy season tickets to guarantee the old firm games and without that eventually folk would stop buying them leading to less of an income leading to possible downsizing and weakening of the squad/team. Just a thought what do yous think? In the meantime we'll just enjoy winning the league but a possible warning of things to come.

Ed, what was the difference between rangers choosing an administrator & HMRC choosing an administrator,surely rangers getting to choose only benefits them?

Dessybhoy {Ed007's Note - It does, especially when it is one of Whyte's 'associates'}

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Or does it. If Whyte was an honourable and reputable character then it would benefit Rangers. But given the type of character Whyte is, this will without doubt benefit Whyte and is highly likely not to benefit Rangers.

Agree1 Disagree0

Hi Ed, do you know if the Administrators appointed were a compromise or if they were Whyte's original choice?.

Thanks Bad Bhoy. {Ed007's Note - Whyte's original choice. They are old business associates.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks Ed, I would assume given the profile and the high publicity that the case is attracting that the administrators will act above board and in the best interest of the club rather than Mr. Whyte. I doubt they would want to tarnish their professional repuration (If they have one) for the sake of a few pieces of silver and gold.

Lets not kid ourselves on guys, this will have a huge impact on our club aswell. If rangers go under will there still be the same interest in celtic, no. tv revenue will be reduced and we would struggle to attract players or to keep players. Behind the scenes celtic board should be looking at negotiating a move down south. As lawell said "we dont need them" I agree, but only if we move to england. We wont be able to remain as popular in scotland without them.

Believable3 Unbelievable6

To go down south they would want the old firm games so dream on

Agree4 Disagree0

B****cks, the TV revenue is negligable. Each club need a few hundred more season ticket holders over the same time scale as the Sky deal and they will have made up the shortfall.
Loss of TV revenue is not a viable argument.

The legacy of a morally flawed approach to sport with open sectarianism at its heart was, pre - Souness, the realisation that European football would no longer tolerate Rangers FC as a serious member of the association of clubs governed by UEFA.
From a desperate position of self-interest and meaningful survival, Souness was then bankrolled and given authority to sign Maurice Johnston. What followed was a culture of free spending with attendant years of triumphalism as Scottish trophies accumulated in the Ibrox cabinet. Celtic, without the intervention of Fergus McCann, would have been allowed to die by the Establishment (mainly a Scottish bank). By extending beyond Scotland to a UK national bank, and the serious financial commitment of McCann, Celtic did survive and has prospered to a degree in both a football and also a business sense ever since.
History does not record a massive outpouring of collective angst at Celtic's plight during those difficult days. It might well be, of course, that the modern world is more enlightened and that the days of double standards being applied to dealings involving Rangers as opposed to Celtic FC are no more than relics of a sorry past. However, when Rangers achieved 'acceptance' by European football as a club unencumbered by archaic, reprehensible sectarian policies, it seemed as if their place at the table was assured. However, with such a privileged seat came the uncomfortable glare of enhanced public scrutiny and responsibility. Despite this, other serious instances of favour and bias in Scotland still emerged although only recently. Or, more accurately, certain actions were exposed and witnessed by a wider global audience.
While the late Jim Farry was found out through the persistence of Fergus McCann, it was only very recently that the chickens came home to roost and the full extent of the problem in Scotland was beginning to become apparent beyond the parochial confines of Scotland. Referees were brought in from afar as the Scottish refs railed against being found out by one of their own members who told the truth. Scottish courts fell short of being able to confirm a sectarian assault on the manger of Celtic FC. Now, though, at last it seems, the national and international community has called a halt to the toxic debt and legacy of a favoured, tainted, organisation.
The obligatory deflection is also evident today in the quote attributed to Peter Lawell and presented as if it was a response to the Rangers statement on the same day. In reality, Lawell's words were uttered before the statement and as an accompaniment to the latest financial (relatively healthy as it happens) report from Celtic FC. However, it is yet another, albeit feeble, attempt to deflect and distort the reality of Rangers regardless of the impact on anyone else, such as, in this case, Celtic.
The indicators above are but pointers towards why cries for a national outpouring of grief and sympathy for Rangers FC today ring hollow and more artificial than ever.

Aye that's them in admin, but the Whyte knight not as daft as he looks. As a secured creditor he can buy the assets at a knock down price (if no one else bids of course), then set them up under a new name debt free, no more rangers although I'm sure he's only looking to liquidate those assets asap. HMRC might have something to say about that though.... Let's see how it unfolds

It really doesent matter now.
You can all say what you like.
Fact is if you lot had not cheated to win 9 in a row, the title race would still be on.
You lot are just so blinkered.
Pay your taxes, support the country you all sing about being loyal to, what a joke you are.

I want to believe that armageddon is about to hit at Castle Greyskull....however, a word of warning. If, as certain rumours would have it they have won their case against HMRC, although it would be subject to appeal, imagine the lift it would give the great unwashed to be free of a debt that threatens their very dodgy existence.

Allied to the fact that, people of a rankers persuasion would then be prepared to throw money at them they would be in a much stronger position than even they could have dreamt of several months ago.

Just be prepared my fellow Celts for these mind games and the psychological fillip it would give them.

I hope I'm wrong and they sink without trace, but don't forget they are the "establishment club" and the powers that be will do everything they can to save them and their disgusting reputation.

Jim Dhoc

Believable1 Unbelievable2

Just enjoy it while it last Jim. They are not exactly in a position to throw money at, even if they do win the case. Admin today, league lost, no Europe probably. Low revenue next year. That is best case scenario for them. I would take that myself.

Joeshmo1888

Agree1 Disagree0

Jim Dhoc - HMRC have said that if Rangers win, they will appeal, appeal and appeal, and which could run for years. That will be enough to prevent any invetor buying the club.

Putting my sensible heid back on after the jokes, txts, slaggin and fall-out from yesterday; I reckon like a bad smell that won't go away, we will have many distractions from press and pundits with their opinions and predictions over the remainder of the season and the players should not be distracted or become complacent no matter what.
We have games and trophies to win and the future headlines will not be about us or our play but a predictably slanted attempt to de-value and undermine our efforts this season.
So stay focussed Bhoys and ignore the 'smell'.

2 all on this page reading tommorows sun & a true celtic legend in billy mcneil saying he does not want RANGERS to go to the wall, he is sad that it has come to this, says he knows there will be celtic fans happy about this but he will not be 1 of them, well said billy we know there is decent celtic fans that are not caught up in mindless history tales, I also know there is decent celtic fans on this page they will have a wee gloat & I can understand this after the bluster coming from RANGERS directors for years but if you really think about it if we go to the wall will you's be happy not playing us 4 times a season & peter liewell can say all he wants yes celtic have been prudent & have good returns do you think for 1 second they would be as good if we were not there & also do you really think sky would put up the same tv deal for future revenue if RANGERS were not at the table so as I say have a gloat but be careful what you wish for

I think in fairness all we want is them to get themselves out of their own mess. Not one Scottish club has ever been given a break when in this situation. I don't want them to catch a break. If they come through this lawfully and legally, then fantastic. But if they are given any leeway by anyone, then it would be a great shame on th. Something they could never live down. I still believe the SPL will go on without Ranges. In fact, it gives those with deeper pockets than mine the opportunity to invest in a Scottish club, as it will have been made easier to find some success at domestic and European level. This is why I can't understand why Romanov would leave Hearts. With Rangers gone it leaves the door ajar for an ambitious man such as himself to find success in Scottish football.

GoldCoastBhoy

Agree4 Disagree1

I,for one, think that the SPL and Scottish football in general will be much more viable and saleable products in the long term without Rangers being involved, even if Celtic have to scale down. Scottish football has been on a downward spiral since Ranger started buying trophies and forcing every other club to try and keep up. The facts speak for themselves! Look at the national teams performances in all major tournaments since the Souness/Murray era kicked in! Scottish football was fantastically competitive in the eighties and Rangers were no where to be seen. They started spending on foreign players and forced everyone else to try and keep up and, as a consequence, cut spending on youth development and other areas! The real kick in the balls for Scottish football is the Rangers have managed to ruin our game by spending money that, didn't even belong to them!
