Use our rumours form to send us celtic transfer rumours.

Atrocious from the board they can take full responsibility. I really hope we put the kids our against whoever the EL opponent is as we don't deserve European football when PL doesn't do his job properly. He doesn't deserve a bonus or BR as a manager. I'll put it out here first. Wave goodbye to 8 in a row as this team is rubbishe. Defence is an embarrassment for a club like ours. Keeper no better. And no sign of any improvement as the club won't sign the players we need until our fate is decided every single season! AEK was shocking over 2 legs should never have went out to that.

The same rubbish team that has won back to back trebles (which had never been done before in the history of Scottish football) . Apart from the addition of our quality 10 million pound striker and the loss of Armstrong It's the same team . Tell me Bravetart who's going to stop the 8? What an embarrassing post from a Celtic fan.

Agree5 Disagree0

15 Aug 2018 06:56:18
Let's face it stevie, we only won back to back trebles because the rest are absolute urine, sevco were in disarray, and the sheep and hibs, hearts are on a shoestring budget, add to that Dundee Utd disappeared and our trebles aren't all that impressive.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Aug 2018 08:46:38
It's not an embarrassing post wise up. We have not progressed at all and are weaker than last year with the loss of Armstrong and wee paddy. I have concerns over 8iar too we sit on our laurels far too often when we have the money there to spend. Squads must always get freshened up as it stops complacency and increases competition. The fans can see what is needed so why can't the board see from behind those millions they have been stockpiling. We're going to need them now!

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Aug 2018 08:55:43
Problem we have now is that we are going to be seen as desperate in any transfer dealing and probably held to ransom. Seems we always paint ourselves into a corner and if we do get anyone decent in, we all ask why it wasn’t done sooner, . Seems obvious we always lack quality improvement but our board seem to have a parallel agenda for god knows what reason.

being down and upset is understandable but way over the top by some.
It's all PL's fault, it's all BR's fault, it's that traitor Boyatas fault.
Over the 2 legs we made enough chances to win but that's statistics and the only important one is 3-2 to them.

We have not brought in a lot of new faces but how many did we approach who said, No Thanks? If a player does not want to come then we have to move on. Quality not Quantity,

The board, manager and players who have delivered an historic double treble are now deemed, by some, as a disaster and imploding. This, after 2 league games!
We are out of the CL but still in the EL so we now have to give it our best shot.
We are, as supporters, hurting right now but we will bounce back.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2018 23:01:58
Oh by the way first time poster so thanks for having me.
3-4 new faces get rid of BOYATA, Comper and replace Armstrong and Roberts plus 2 good cb we will be fine. Could get a good run in Europa League. c'mon Bhoys let's get behind the manager and players 🍀🍀.

I thought we were far the better team going forward, but our defence is a shambles .
They have 2 shots on goal and score we have 4 or 5 and score 1.
I think that's why Rodgers was constantly saying defending was not good enough .
Hopefully this was a Wee message to the board and to that so call player boyata.
We just need to go and win Europa league now doddle 😂.

I can't believe in like 100 odd years off football people still don't understand the concept of counter attacking football.

Can remember a few occasions sides defend against us and people say we "played well" or make out we were unlucky.

AEK defended and gave us possession, that's how they play. They were dictating us without the ball (that's what defensive sides do)

forcing us to sideways pass and into tight spaces. The idea that just because we have the ball we are in control is an illusion and the whole point in the tactic lol.

Agree5 Disagree0

14 Aug 2018 23:11:14
For me Lustig was at fault for both goals. Beaten too easily for the first and claiming a foul at the back post for the second when he should have just been defending it.

Simunovic has the worst distribution I think I have ever seen for a centre half. His mistake on saturday lead to Hearts’ goal and he struggled to find a hooped jersey tonight.

We have all been crying out for a right back and a dominant centre half and tonight showed why.

Also can anyone explain to me why Craig Gordon either doesn’t dive when someone hits a shot into him or jumps out of the way of it. About 5 shots into him across the 2 games and he let in 3 goals.

I said on the live chat Rodgers has worked miracles with an average squad and we need some investment now.

Agree2 Disagree0

14 Aug 2018 23:38:54
A thought ntcham made the defenders job more difficult by not showing often enough when they were looking for an out ball and a lot of times he took it off one and played it straight back into defence. Sinclair and dembele changed the game in ma eyes but we gifted them 2 goals and a team as drilled as that aren't going to chuck that away. Really disappointed to go out to 3 blunders but once again we don't score enough goals to compensate for the certain goals we gift teams in Europe. That's the level of players on the list dropped a rung or 2.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Aug 2018 08:53:38
To be honest stephbhoy2 l thought Brown played and positioned himself like another CB. The other problem is the defenders ( except kt ) can t pass a ball 10 yrs! I would think if you asked them to pass the salt they would miss u. Who ever told Gordon he can pass God help us.

Europa League beckons and I am reasonably happy we should be able to compete. We are a Europa team.

Champions League gives the pomp and money but it's usually a hard watch for a few games. Imagine our defence against an in form Liverpool, Madrid etc.

Love Lustig but he's done to be fair, needs to stop the ball coming in for the first, gives the free away for second then loses his man. Hendry was caught flat footed and should have done better, this could/ should have done better goes right through the team. As we have all said we need a RB and a CH asap.

We lack creativity and last year I was singing Rogucs praises but he's off to a slow start this year - bereft of ideas at times, loses possession a lot and his engine is terrible. But he is a talent - maybe the World Cup needs to find his form.

Brown, Ntcham just haven't came back with the authority, speed and synergy they had last year. Both when in form are top class but something missing.

Positives, Dembele makes Celtic a very different team, griff was getting in positions to score and missed a great chance, Sinclair scored which will give him the confidence he needed.

If we could have 11 tierneys we would have qualified!

We definitely need to have a few new faces and I think we can make some progress through the Europa leagues even against Arsenal, Leverkusen etc. good teams which we have shown in the last few years we can match vs the likes of Man City, Bayern etc.

Not what we all wanted but still the chance of European football and we still have talented players just need to get a few more to keep ahead of the chasing pack.

🍀.

Jsean that's probably the most balanced review of where we are I've seen in the last few weeks.
Personally I think we need at 3 players 4 if we lose 2 CBS.
With a RB and a good scoring CAM to play behind the striker.

Agree1 Disagree0

14 Aug 2018 23:04:45
We have Rogic and McGregor for CAM, its arguably our strongest position. To improve on either of those 2 would take £15m+.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2018 23:18:51
👏👏👏 Jsean, I'm quite looking fwd to Europa league if we get there lol. Let's be honest the Prostitution league has been torture for a couple of years now. Can't say I enjoy watching us 5 down wi half an hour still on the clock, I feel like a Sevie when they're playing us lol. A couple of signings, get the imposter Boyata out the door continue domestic domination, a wee run in the Europa, that"ll do me.

Agree2 Disagree0

15 Aug 2018 07:43:38
LM67 we need a creative goal scoring ACM.
McGregor isn't that type of player. He's more a hard working player.
Rogic doesn't influence enough games and isn't involved in enough goals.
15 to 20 goals and double figures in assists should be coming from that position.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2018 22:40:27
Not quite sure why everybody thinks we should automatically beat AEK Athens but you should maybe consider that as an association, Greece are ranked 15th in Europe and Scotland are ranked 26th.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - They have more teams picking up co-efficient points than Scotland,, only Olympiacos are higher than us as individual clubs.
For this season Celtic are ranked ib 47th spot in the UEFA rankings - AEK are in 123rd place.}

14 Aug 2018 22:53:27
No disgrace losing to the greek champions. They obviously better than Olympiakos, they finished 3rd in the Greek League. 2nd places PAOK have hammered Basel then beaten Spartak Moscow in the CL qualifiers, which again shows that its a decent league.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - They only won the league - their first in 24 or 25 years - because the POAK were deducted points after their president ran onto the pitch with a gun. They won the league by default.}

14 Aug 2018 23:03:08
I would say that suggests that they play in a better league and as a consequence they would be technically better. I think Leicester City are ranked quite a way behind us but I think they’d probably give us a game. My point is we shouldn’t expect to beat a team like AEK Athens just because we turn up.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I expect us to beat dug $hite teams from Greece, 3 shots on target over 180 mins and they scored with them. If we had everybody fully fit and available we would have comfortably beaten them. Even at that the players available should have beaten them.
By morning I'll be able to prove why this is all Craig Gordon's fault :-D

14 Aug 2018 23:08:03
No we have a right to beat no one but we should have put ourselves in a position to win this tie. BR clearly stated his given objective was to "Dominate in Scotland and qualify for the CL".
So while it's not the end of the world, it's still abject failure as a club to reach our basic objectives. I don't see the team being strengthened now, there will be sales though.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2018 23:08:32
AEK won the league by 6 points after PAOK were deducted 3 points and foreited the game against AEK 3-0. Clearly not much between the teams. I’d expect both to make the group stages.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2018 23:19:26
Guys I get what your saying about Greek football and your right it’s been known to a good level. but that AEK team were no better than average for me, and it’s a big opportunity missed considering who awaited us in the next round! Some woeful defending over 2 legs cost us but also we could have put the tie to bed at home, after playing against 10 men for most of the 2nd half! But we couldn’t break down what for was an average Greek side! And I’ll put my hands up and say when we drew AEK I thought we’re in for 2 tough games but it turned out we made it tough for ourselves! After back to back trebles and signing up French eddy sharpish in the window it was all positive but there’s a gloom went over the club this past week and a half. first thing we do now is get shot of the rat boyata, pay off compper and get 2 decent centre backs in! Someone to replace Armstrong and paddy! And if we can get a RB in to then all the better! Pissed off as I am, we’ve got a full season left to play there must be some sort of lift over the next 2 weeks in the transfer market!

Agree1 Disagree0

14 Aug 2018 23:25:36
As I understand it PAOK were only deducted 3 points but Athens won the league by 6 points. Greece have got 2 teams in CL qualifiers and they enter at a later stage than we do so you have to assume that their league is of a higher standard than ours.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2018 22:40:19
Basic defending has been our down fall here everyone can see that our two main CHs were no where Ajer and Boyata one suspended the other well the less said the better. Everyone knows what's needed so they need to get a grip and sort it out big time.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

15 Aug 2018 00:09:28
Rodgers said himself that the defence gifted goals. He also said they need to learn, sorry but naw they won't learn. Punt them, cut our loses and get most of them out asap, give them away if needs be, we'd have a pure brass neck asking for money for any of our cb's.

Agree1 Disagree0

14 Aug 2018 21:22:47
Ed trying to keep a level head on what was a disappointing night but not really unexpected. Just wanted your opinion on where tonight leaves us with regards to the rest of the transfer window? Does tonights result give the board the opportunity to deny us signings due to lack of CL revenue (not that having that revenue in previous years has led to major signings) Also could this lead to the potential sales of Dembele, Ntcham, Tierney etc to make up the finances? Clubs overseas will now know we don't have CL football this year and will come circling.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - There'll be signings made before the window closes simply because there has to be.I said I never expected any CBs to come in before 1 or 2 left and once Boyata leaves - I expect Compper's contract to be mutually terminated - they' need replaced, we know the manager wanted McGinn so there will need to be A N Other signed to play in there and the same with a replacement for Roberts to fight Forrest for his start.
In the coming weeks the papers and internet will be full of stories about team's chasing our 'big name' players but I'd be really surprised if any of them are sold unless they ask to leave.}

14 Aug 2018 22:44:03
With us (potentially) going into the EL groups it gives us a chance to grow into the tournament and hopefully get a mentality of winning games in Europe rather than 6 games of getting battered and dropping into EL with shaken confidence. Every cloud and all that I suppose but this really needs to be a wake up call.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Some decent teams in it too, Kev I put a list of some of them on another thread. Get a few new faces in and everyone fit and firing on all cylinders and we could get a wee run going. The money's neither here nor there for me - I'm not saying I don't enjoy seeing Celtic earn it btw - but when it's all said and done it's still seeing Celtic playing European football and I've always loved that.}

14 Aug 2018 22:45:08
If we can get £10m for Boyata then surely £5-6m will be spent at least. We would still have made a profit in the window. No doubt at least 1 loan signing, other than Arzani, will come in too. wouldn't mind trying to sign Kyle Walker-Peters from Spurs for a season. Lustig is just about done.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2018 22:54:57
Why should we buy now it's too late P. Bonner said that he would be surprised if we made any significant signing now it's too late but I hope he's wrong.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2018 23:12:25
Never too late. We still have a treble to defend and if we want to juggle that with Europa League football we need a stronger squad than we have at present. That tie has proven that at present we can't cope with injuries and suspensions.

All you hear from football fans now a days is about money money money. When did that become so much more important than trophies?

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2018 23:23:12
No chance we’ll get £10mil for Boyata now lol, clubs know he’s spat the dummy, £5mil hopefully.
Needs punting regardless of money and new CB in, ideally 2 but won’t happen.
Tonight wasn’t a surprise, sore but not a surprise.
Just unfortunate how the fans will suffer as the board count it as a loss and then live by that after millions banked.
A good couple of ties in the europa to be had if we make the groups, that’s our level and should be fun, get use out they dear lights too ☺️.

15 Aug 2018 00:42:20
BBJ £5m for Boyata is incredible money considering the guy is total pish. £1m is a good deal in my eyes. Which takes me to my next point. Whoever turned down £9m for that dumpling needs sacked immediately.

Boyota just dropped his value by being petulant. HE will get his wish to leave but WE won't get his potential value immediately (I believe standard contracts will have the usual add ons)

lawwell thinks he won the pissing contest, and with Europa League monies only to bank (IF we beat Sudova) no way will he loosen the purse strings.
So Green Brigade get your banners ready for first game back at Celtic Park and tell Lawwell and Bankier what we think of them.

Be lucky if Pedro doesn’t now sanction a sale of one of our “assets” which is the norm after being pumped out Tim, never mind spending anything 😂
The only way the board pay any attention is when fans don’t pay/ turn up, that won’t happen while Rodgers is there!
Europa league is our level but the money is shocking so expect to live accordingly 🙈 £60mil banked over last 2 years, mega assets in the team (not going by the last few weeks) and still nothing, all about book balancing you see.
Oh wait. fancy lights anaw 💃🏻💃🏻 they ate into the budget 🤔.

This is probably the least gutted I’ve ever been about not reaching the CL. The last 2 years have shown that finishing any higher than 3rd is an impossible task and the consolation prize of the £30m a season for being in it doesn't get spent on quality players anyway.

Half empty stadiums and a hit to the bank balance might make the board wake up.

We are lucky to have Rodgers. Our next manager won't be anywhere near his class. We should be trying to match his aim of improving in Europe by giving him cash not standing still.

Steve Clarke at Kilmarnock, at least he knows how to build a defence.

Agree4 Disagree0

14 Aug 2018 21:53:49
Agreed we can’t be resting on what we have done domestically we must keep improving on the park and making signings that will allow us to progress. We are becoming far to predictable in our play. We have all been screaming out for a RB and a CH if we had that we would still be in Champions League. BR is a fan but will he stay when he’s not being able to make the improvements required to take us forward? D. D is as much to blame as Lawell.

Steve Clarke behave yourself. Well said LM don't feel that gutted myself, always said we're EL standard in the present climate. The same ones that greet about no being in The Prostitution Cup would be the same ones that greet when we get our arses felt in the competition proper. There were over 100 teams vying for 6 places this season, we missed out this season move on.

To be fair Rodgers record in Europe is absolutely honkin

3 champions league groups (1 with Liverpool)

18 games - 2 wins.

we qualified last 2 years but let's face it, Beer Sheva and Astana away were shocking.

Zenit we collapsed again, who were easily there for the taking. Worst Zenit side in a long time.

Even in the Europa for Liverpool he never won a game, last 32 got beat off Besiktas.

Agree1 Disagree1

14 Aug 2018 22:19:02
Pretty sure Astana and Beer Sheva both advanced from their Europa League groups after we put them out in the play offs. Not as bad as you think they are.

Steve Clarke? His football would put 60k fans to sleep every week.

Agree1 Disagree0

14 Aug 2018 22:28:59
Doesn't matter what they achieved. We are always ones to point at another teams budget when they beat us

but Astana, AEK, Beer sheva etc their budgets are tiny in comparison to ours.

So we by our own expectations should be beating them and if they qualify from europa groups then so should we be, with ease.

but we are underspending and downsizing and the word tells you all you need to know.

We have moved down a size to that level, now they teams are our level which is a joke.

Agree0 Disagree1

14 Aug 2018 22:50:25
The way we’re playing just now is hardly exciting is it? Constant sideways passing.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - It does my nut in Andy, we have teams camped out on their 18 yard line and it's constant sideways passing just to keep possession, there's not enough cutting edge or picking out a forward pass or taking someone on to make space etc Rogic is turning into another Kris Commons and just shooting from anywhere, look at the difference when Dembele came on tonight, the whole attacking side of the team came alive and we looked dangerous.}

14 Aug 2018 23:03:27
Well said, mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2018 23:34:44

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Aug 2018 20:46:09
Have to say in hindsight I am happy we have not qualified for the Champions League as a good side would give our defence a real torrid time. Think this would hard to watch. We have better chance home and away in the Europa League. We still need to strengthen and if this isn't done now after last week and tonight it will never happen!

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2018 21:44:24
I'm not going to go on a rant about tonight, we all knew it was a distinct possibility. My concern is that the fans voted with their feet when it was time for Deila to go and they might do so again because of the complacency that's deemed to have been been shown this window. We had a great opportunity to get another pot of gold and a crack at the big time but unfortunately everybody can see we are weaker this time round and some fans, rightly so after investing plenty of hard earned money, won't accept that. I expect EL ticket sales to be very low.

2 years worth of champions league money between £50/ £60 million, 3 new stops on sale this season not to mention sold out season ticket sales past 2 seasons, roughly £8 million in from the VVD sale to Liverpool, £7 million Armstrong money aplenty coming through the door and we're watching a defence that consists of 1 top class player ( Tierney) every other single one for me could do one. Lustig ( good servant but times up) jozo can go, comper ( I'd say go but don't even know if he's here? Hendry, not good enough at that level, ajer ( midfielder turn centre half) still inexperienced at that level, gamboa 2 years and can't get a run, and boyata? Well that for me should never set foot back inside Celtic Park or Lennoxtown. Even gardening leave is too good for that twat. Biggest thing for me regarding our defence (especially in a European sense) no where near good enough. This defence has been there by in large 2/ 3 years and yes domestically we get by but surely now has to be that time where big big changes are needed and it should already have happened. Can't forget either that Brendan has brought in hendry, gamboa and the most non existent central defender if ever heard of in comper. Are we actually paying that guy?

Eric wasn’t good enough either. Why go back to players who weren’t good enough? Why not just buy s good one? Wouldn’t that be better? I liked him but if we have any ambition, which obviously this board don’t, but if we had, shev wouldn’t be in the team. Or we would still be weak in Europe.

Spot on LM67, unless our defenders can pass the ball back and forth across the back line and try fancy crap Brendan’s not interested. Even tonight, 2-0 down and we’re passing the ball about the back as if we’re in total control of a game that was slipping away from us. what’s wrong with getting some solid, no nonsense defenders that just want to defend?

Agree1 Disagree0

14 Aug 2018 21:32:45
Before i start i know we won the treble last year.

However, this situation has been coming since last season. As was said in commentary we played Bitton as the back last season. We also struggled to break teams down, especially at home. And it was always side to side, going nowhere passes. Remember tonight when Griff one the ball 25 yards from goal and it ended up with Gordon. Once Mousa came on and we played more direct we looked a threat.

Or i could be talking pish.

Ye I do stand because he deserves it.
LM67 all rogic done was hit the ball everytime he had it apart from one rubbishe cross to McGregor. Should have been yanked at half time.
Rogic hits about 10 shots a game and scores about 8 a season and even less assist but people talk like he's a master mind.

He's a passenger most games and an unfit one at that.

Agree0 Disagree1

14 Aug 2018 22:08:44

Have to agree with u both. Could pick anyone out of the 11 apart from Sinclair and Dembele. Don't think rogic was any worse than the others. However he is frustrating in that he gives the ball away too often for my liking in dangerous areas, but again Brown and Simo both guilty tonight. Fed up with our strikers constantly being injured for big games. It's first time I have looked at bench and felt uninspired definitely the weakest bench I remember in some time in a European game. significant signings required.

Just sell Boyata, Sumunovic, Lustig, Henry and Compper for what we can get and start again.

Cant be too hard to find 2 competant centre halfs and a right back.

Agree1 Disagree0

14 Aug 2018 21:59:17
Hendry was flat footed for the second goal. Its easy to think he played well because they never launched many attacks. When they did, they scored. They literally went up the park about 5 times in 2 legs and managed to score 3 times!

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2018 22:08:51

Andy did u seriously just say Hendry played well! In the 2 games against that mob he’s been shown up to be exactly what he is, and that’s a Dundee player! His attempt at jumpin for the ball at the 2nd goal was pathetic! And if that had been a team of better quality who attacked more he’d have been all over the place! But Jozo and Lustig are just as much to blame, Lustig even more in my eyes! Love the big man and how much he’s gave to us and became one of us, but his time was 2 seasons ago! It’s actually painful watchn him now to be honest! But hey what do any of us know eh!

We have started off this season the same way we finished last season, and that is delivering average performances. AEK are an average side. Over 2 legs we should beat them. Better sides than AEK in Europa. Last 10 or 12 league games last season our win ratio and goals scored was less than Rangers, Aberdeen and Hibs. We have just continued that trend. I don't think we are much better right now than the rest of the SPL top 4 and with the finances at our disposal that is really poor. BR may not have the recruits in that he wants but he needs to get more out of the squad he has. He is not blame free either. The players need to stand up and be counted as well. Some of the performances tonight were below what we expect.

It is extremely hard to compete against the elite in the champions league but not even getting the chance to pit our wits against them is the hardest bit to swallow.

Abysmal transfer market cost us. Do the board no longer trust the manager? He has had long enough to fix the defence and has failed miserably. Ok he didn't sign them all but he must have identified this as a weakness yet we are worse now than when he came in. Jozo and Boyata are total bombscares, Hendry sorry he will never be good enough, Ajer is a midfielder but might come good, Comper less said the better. Folk will say it costs millions to get good defenders, wonder what AEK paid for their CB's? Serious questions need to be asked.

A shambles and goodbye to the quality we needed. Cheapskate rubbishebags.

Agree1 Disagree1

14 Aug 2018 21:04:52
We spent 9m on Edouard. Gave a five year (no doubt hugely expensive) contract to a bang average player that can't last more than 60 mins. Whilst we may have a bit of cash in the bank, the club must run to a budget, or you know what can happen. Brendan has had 5 (5) transfer windows to sort the defensive frailties out, and we keep signing midfielders. At the Athens home game, I sat behind the goal we were attacking for the second half, and it was like watching a really poor Arsenal. 90% of the ball, no idea in the final third. No change of strategy when they went to 10 men, and didn't really look like scoring, or, more importantly changing the game plan. Hearts game at the weekend was the same. We all know exactly what was coming, and no reaction whatsoever. Whilst I'm sure we have cash there, we CANNOT say the board are to blame. Too many piss poor signings, and not much changed, certainly European wise in the last 2 years. Maybe we have just found out level.
Oh and stop blaming Henry- at least he is working for his wage unlike some sitting on their arse in Glasgow. Treble treble would be lovely- feels like our level though, certainly under the current regime.

Agree2 Disagree0

14 Aug 2018 21:05:25
for the last god knows how long it’s been obvious that we need a keeper, a right back and a right good centre half. That’s just to attempt to sort the defence. We also need a number 10 that turns up more than half a dozen times a season when it suits &a genuine quality wife player. Oh and a scouting department that actually has a fecking clue what they’re doing. Or is it the board or the manager?

Agree1 Disagree0

Neilbhoy wow, can't blame the board? hahah don't make us laugh.

yer comment about "you know what can happen" in regards to us spending?

What will happen? we won't go into administration by spending money we have.

5-10mil for a couple of defenders. we have 30 in the bank.

qualify for the CL and earn 40mil. you do the maths. We have lost £30 in order to save £10mil.

any business on the planet would sack their CEO for that level of loss.

10m for a couple of defenders? Another 50k a week in wages, and for what? Wouldn't guarantee we qualify, and I'm curious, which defenders are they? Look at the wage bill for the last couple of years- there is spend, and there is investment- every club has a ceiling though, and if you can't guarantee the 30/ 40m from champs league then you are spending for nothing. I'm not saying the board are blameless, but there has been investment- not in the right areas of the pitch. Was pretty clear from the last few performances.

Agree1 Disagree0

14 Aug 2018 21:36:48
Telsa it £40m to qualify for the group

It’s, even on last years TV money of £13.5m

Tickets alone for three home games. £11m

It’s nearer £65m

If we had strengthened then any win £2.7m

We shat it to go an extra £750k for McGinn.

A possible £70m with just one win down the plug hole. . One feckin win. All gone because the board may have members, but it has no balls.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2018 21:54:41
Neilbhoy how can u say we cannot blame the board. If they were given a list of players to help make the squad and team stronger and don't follow through and get a least some of them then who else is to blame. There is two years champions league money, season tickets sold out Again, God knows how many new shirts were sold and signing the biggest sponsor deal in Scottish history. The money they spent on French eddy was balanced off by Armstrong and Eric sales. To have the team weaker than last few years is total unacceptable.

Does anyone else think there has to be something wrong going on at out club with the amount of injuries we seem to get? Armstrong was on the treatment table most of last season, as was griff, Dembele is a regular, Edouard had a good few for the games he played, obviously Simunovic and Compper had issues before they came in the door. I blame the amount of draws we had last season to this, constantly having to change the team which stopped the flow. All three of our strikers have been injured and we are 2 league games into our season (oh and boytata is seemingly injured)

Jesus Christ, terry Huth and Richards! We’ve already got a 30 something defender who’s injured constantly! We don’t need 2 more, and John Terry just no! The guy is an absolute walloper! Leave that mob to sign that sort!

I’m going to be positive here, aek looked dangerous at certain points in the game last week but we totally dominated possession . If we can just get it in our heads, winner takes all mentality I’m sure we can do this. I wouldn’t say these are anyway near as good as some of the teams we have played recently in Europe so if we can replicate one of our good performances like against borussia gladbach. ( I appreciate we never won but that type of performance wouldn’t go a miss. ) forget about our away record in Europe and just treat it like an away game, why when we step foot on a plane we can’t play, we go away all season and to some grounds that can be intimidating in Scotland and produce wins, I’m not talking about going to Barcelona, Paris or whatever. This is Greece, come in Bhoys . One good result will shut up the gutter press for a bit as well and stop them talking about our impending doom, and the new coming of the walking dead.

It seems to have isolated him to the point of quarantine Jamie and I'm sure his team mates will be disgusted at his attitude - especially those who carried and covered for him these past years.
I'm not sure if we will progress, but as long as we give it 100%, leave the fear and nerves in the changing room and cut out daft mistakes, I can't ask for more and our season will not end tonight!

14 Aug 2018 12:52:52
I am not going to lie, I am worried about tonight as our away form can be abysmal.
But thinking positive, it might be a blessing playing away as our fans at Celtic Park put too much pressure on the team and panic when we lose an away goal, which then transmits to the players and gets them nervous.
Also the past week has not been the best, and I am hoping that it has galvanised Celtic and brought our team spirit back.
But I fear another "glorious failure" with a 0-0 draw which any other time would be great but NOT tonight.
Please prove me wrong Brendan and Celtic.

Not worried timalloy. I'm going in with full faith. I think the media bulls**t may be causing an over reaction. There is definitely something going down with the boards support of transfers but I think the player and managers are on the same page.

I'm going to throw it out there and say 3-0. We dominated that team last week they just parked the bus. But I recon we'll go out all guns blazing. Players available. Another game under the belt. The team we have are filled with champions players who know how to win, who are hungry to win and want to display there talents on the champions league. I don't see why we can't if we give it our all.

My team.
Gordon
Gamboa
Hendry
Lustig
Jozo
KT

Broony

Forrest
Oli
Eddy

Moussa.

Broony sitting as a shield for the back five gives us a chance to use full backs cleverly and individually, but still keep a grip of the area around 20-25 yds from our goal. This in turn gives Oli a chance to probe forward instead if him receiving on the half way line.

Forrest and Eddy could also concentrate on staying up the pitch to tie defenders down and get a chance of a one on one, which i would fancy them to win. Moussa will tie up at least one, but probably two, defenders so we always have a target

Corners and free kicks, one CB up for them, take no chances on getting caught on the break. Assuming we could start this team i might fancy us. Got flow to it with a good bench.

We need to be on the front foot in this game other than being very organised I didn’t see much to worry me from them last week. I think they will be set up pretty nuch the same we just need that killer instinct in the last 3rd.
I don’t think Moussa will start tho if he’s fit get him in there firmly believe if he was on last week we would’ve had a nice cushion plus I think eddy is better when he’s in behind Moussa.

If he's not going to play fully then rodgers is right to leave him out. Get rid as soon as, he is one ungrateful player, let him move to Spain and get found out in that league. Sick of the extra negative gutter press trying to drum up stories about our great club, whilst telling portraying everything rosy at ibrokes we all know the truth. We need to stand up against the bias as if you believed the rubbish they print to keep the persons happy and spending their cash. Hopefully we turn up tonight and hand AEK their ar##es. I cannot wait for the clash with persons. Can you imagine the volume of the noise that will emanate leading upto this clash. Time to stand strong and continue to stand together and show what it feels like to be Celtic. With Boyata’s exit looking like a certainty now, and Rodgers having talked about taking advantage of the window shutting earlier in England, there’s a few centre halfs who might be available:

Bednarek
Denayer
Kalas
Omeruo
Holding
Mavropanos
Hector
Martina
Benalouane
Mangala
Carter-Vickers
Foyth
Oxford

Would any of them be worth a punt? Bednarek seems a good option to me.
