Hi ed was glad to see the appeal was thrown but what do you think will happens with the CAS it seems strange that they are above uefa as its there rules and there tournament?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - CAS Secretary General Matthieu Reeb has said he knows of no precedent by which the Legia decision can be overturned. It's very rare for the CAS to go against any official bodies rulings.}

I can't see this being reversed now. I know how I would feel if the boot was on other foot but the rules are not new so there is no excuse for the mess they are in through their own mistakes.

Praying it's a striker again last night even though we scored 3 again you can see we are in dire need of 1

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we should put a cheeky 3 million bid in for Sow of Hearts

Agree0 Disagree0

On the back of one game?

Agree0 Disagree0

I totally agree we need a real quality striker - like all good Celtic teams had; but I think we could do with more creativity in the middle and out wide.
Most of the midfield players we have seem to be defensive minded - although I am concerned about the lack of real tacklers/ball winners in there.

JJ

@IanL - it was a joke ma man, the guy was ok but he was playing against a bunch of has beens and lower league players.

I've seen some articles linking Stuart Armstrong to a move down south.

Do we have any interest in him? I see him as a guy that could come in a play the same role as Brown and eventually take over his role. I really wish we'd went for Stevie May, we'll regret that one. Deila spoke of having more scottish talent in the squad when he came in, these are exactly the kind of guys we need in the team, with a few class foreigners.

Mr ed007, are you aware of any interest we have in any Scottish youth?

Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - There was interest in Armstrong last season but I don't know if there still is, I'd be surprised if CFC would pay the type of fee Dundee Utd are looking for.}

I think Armstrong shows enough potential for 2/3 million and wages wouldn't be a problem! I think he showing as much as brown was when we signed him Nd he cost us 4.4m.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2014 17:03:57
Cheers ed. what about any other Scottish youth?

Do you know why we never went for May?

SOS Bhoy, I think he could slit nicely into the squad, if we don't go for him we'll regret it. He'll end up in the championship or relaxation in the prem. he's the sort of guy I'd have thought we'd be going for.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Sorry but I don't know of any interest in youth players, it's hard to find out anything because of the amount of scouts at youth matches. I can't help with why we were never in for May, perhaps John Park didn't think he was worth the money.}

Yep we will regret it if we don't sign him just another McCarthy as well as many others who have left Scotland! To sign griffiths and not may for the same money what were we thinking?

'I want to win in a certain way. Very hard to find right balance between doing things you believe in and getting results in short term.'

'Totally different managing a big Club compared to a small Club, don't have time to develop things.'

Quite happy with Ronny's words and that he has totally acknowledged this. Celtic have the best facilities and finances in Scotland. The reality is development/changes/forward thinking (or whatever we want to call it ) has to be done whilst still achieving results. We are not a mid league Club who are looking of ways to find domestic success, this has to be achieved.

Think we all appreciate RD wants to play a certain way but it's a result driven industry and don't think these changes are going to take place overnight.

Just hope the Board can back him.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Mrs E

Whist results matter, if performances are IMPROVING and individual players skills sets are being enhanced (and weaknesses corrected, even partially) and if the players demonstrate a willingness to run through brick walls for the manager, then results will matter a little less

I believe that RD wants to see more energy, greater fitness, better football intelligence all of which may result in CFC finding an alternative way to compete against the game's financial goliaths

but it will (inevitably) take time but maybe it is worth giving RD the benefit of the doubt….CFC do not need to win every game at any cost …that is a smokescreen…

simply put, we need to progress and improve …consistently

Agree0 Disagree0

I think in the long term he's going to develop our youth better and produce from the academy and be more self sufficient but I'm glad he's stating that his new ideas and brand of football won't happen over night. With RD realising after that horrible 2 leg defeat that we need more stability and balance while making his changes progressively.

Agree0 Disagree0

Results are all that matter in sport and this is where I think the smokescreen is not the other way about Paradise. We got beat but it's okay the Mangers experimenting with a style of play? You can't get it right in training with guys that have been playing football since they were about 5yrs old.

Why do we need a different style of play to beat Morton - for me this was just down to discipline of our players or lack of, which I'll be glad to see Ronny and John Collins look at.

There is an expectation for Celtic to win every domestic and European qualifier game. Why were some unhappy 2 seasons ago when we were in the last 16 of the CL with league and Cup double if this expectation isn't there? At this level Celtic play to win. In the group stages (not saying we don't play to win) we are the underdog and the defence tactics are different but nowhere else.

Granted RD doesn't have the right players for his 4-3-3, the squad was already going downhill last season and is weaker again but he has to play to these players strengths surely until he can get in players to suit, or just better players altogether for any formation would be good!

What is it you want to see RD or any Celtic Manager do, same with the Board and Peter Lawwell if they leave, what would you like to see happen?

Personally I'd like to see the quadruple again with a team of 11 Scottish players in my lifetime. Cheers Ronny

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the movement of the ball has improved 100% since RD has arrived just needs time to jell the players in to the passing in front of them instead of passing it behind the forward running player and we will be good it will take some time to get all his thoughts over and I hope we give him that time

Agree0 Disagree0

Just my opinion but I think we have to play 3 centre midfielders . Our middle two are over run in every game .

Ed, was there any reason why Griffiths was not in squad tonight and do you know if there's any truth in a loan move for him to hibs, thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - CFC are actively looking to move Griffiths on.}

Ah kno griffiths kin b ah silly wee bhoy at tyms but he's a goal scorer! He needs t be played up front wer he's most dangerous not oot on the wing. hope he gets a few games up front to prove people wrang but can't see it happening. Thought tampon n berget did awryt when they came on!. but as sumwan mentioned below its prob because we had an xtra man lol

Chris1888

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed

do you think CFC would sanction a Griffiths loan move within the SPL or is it back to the championship; I heard Hibernian was a very real option but wages wise what would happen…what is he on …£8k a week …would it be a loan to Hibs with part of his wages covered

if loans are being looked at (less likely…) then obviously RD doesn't fancy the player or his attitude…

Ed, is this system based, skills based or attitude/discipline based….can you speculate?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - To be honest I don't care where he goes but he could go out on loan with us still paying a percentage of his wages. If it was me I'd give him a free.}

Onwards and Upwards. Anybody else 'actively' looking to get punted Ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I'll be surprised if Commons is still here at the end of the window, his contract talks have stalled and Lawwell will not want him running down his deal and leaving for nothing. I expect Crystal Palace to up their efforts in signing Mulgrew.}

Harsh Ed, Very Harsh. He is better than anything we have at the moment though. Hail Hail

Agree0 Disagree0

Definitely a transitional period then. I'm worried about the way wages are being structured/cut. Think it echoes volumes that we'll not be bringing in anybody who isn't just 'potential'.

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally I think Griffiths deserves a chance but we have bigger fish to fry at the moment. Concerning Commons, having watched a fair bit of the team under RD I'm not sure whether he looks like playing Commons to his strengths. Looks to be playing further forward and more restrictions on his movement which for me leaves him struggling at times.

Agree0 Disagree0

Commons does suit that system, IE in behind striker and ahead of middle two midfielders with license to link up with wingers and full backs pushing forward; the issue is that we need better wingers (forrest on form okay), and we need (as per gunniebhoy) a very mobile striker and (as per my recommendation) a more mobile forward thinking box to box midfielder…this would give commons more options to link and play through

re ED"s response to my Griffiths query, I am guessing ED is not a fan?! Ha …a "free" …that would be a little profligate ….

Agree0 Disagree0

Have seen a text from LG tonite and there's no deal to Hibs.
His words, 99% staying at club.
Everyone has their own opinion but regardless what is accurate is he hasn't really been given the same opportunity to prove himself in his own position since signing.
Personally, I'd have him through the middle in the new system and see what happens.
From being at game last night it certainly wouldn't be any worse than Stokes. Who as an aside gets a lot less negative verbals on here despite a poor off field lifestyle. I'd go as far as to say worse than LG. From a playing perspective which is the important thing, he's probably the best striker at club.
Prepared to be shot down!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Tony Watt wasn't given much of a chance either, maybe there's a comparison in there. I'm not Stokes biggest fan as a footballer but to compare him to Griffiths off the field is a bit romantic considering how long Griffiths has been at the club, besides, I always had whataboutery down as a Sevconian trait, Stevo. ;)

A very sudden departure for the Crystal Palace manager is likely to stop any more buys for them this window .

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed I see TP has just quit CP so maybe no move there now.

A good and much needed win last night. Lot's of work still needing done. Personally I'm not sure if Stokes and Commons can play in that formation. However Commons usually takes a good few games to come into his own. I was really impressed with Berget and Borrigter when they came on. That might have been down to the man advantage though.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Cmcbhoy I watched Berget last night and was impressed with his running, a lot faster than Stokes and seems to have a good engine on him, would like to see him given a run at centre forward
Tambhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Aye was a lot happier by Berget last night, good linking up with the other attackers and got a head to a cross something no other attacker managed all night . He might be a player .

Anyone know what time the verdict will be out at today?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Reports in a Polish paper that their appeal failed.

Agree0 Disagree0

Daily Record online reporting that Legias appeal has been thrown out!

Agree0 Disagree0

Greg
If the DR is to be believed just now, the appeal has been finalised and has been thrown out. CFC will progress. An explanation for the reasons from UEFA is due shortly.

Agree0 Disagree0

Believe it when uefa say it not the daily record or polish paper THINK it!or assume it. It's after 1pm and no announcement so it might mean it's not cut and dried as I'm sure we all expected a decision before now.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jim1972 I'm with you on this, the length of time it is taking has me slightly concerned.while I'm on the subject wouldn't it be nice if, the press and the governing bodies in Scotland gave celtic a bit of support in this, or am I asking for a miracle.killy.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm with you Jim. There's always a chance it won't go our way until it's final. Part of me has a dodgy feeling about it all.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Calm yourself, Chris. I can't understand why people are worried about this, I am 99% confident of us playing CL football this year, in fact I'll say I'm 100% confident today.}

TV reporting the appeal has been thrown out.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2014 14:13:45
You are Killy! Verdict just out and appeal failed. tv straight on phone to legia co owner for his opinion. No mention of Celtic. Uefa maybe cleverly released verdict just after Suarez decision. TV seem to have plenty sympathy for the man who bites people though?

Agree0 Disagree0

Chrisboy,

the Daily Record is only reporting what a polish paper has reported so it isn't exactly an exclusive…there is nothing in the DR coverage when you look at it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed, I am 99.99999% confident now that Legia's appeal has been officially kicked out by UEFA.
But what's this alternative appeal to CAS all about? Does it have any legs at all?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I doubt it, they rarely go against the official ruling.}

14 Aug 2014 01:35:27
The first half was awful tonight, Forrest was the only encouraging player going forward. However in the second half we played a lot better, I thought that we had a solid enough half. All players including the subs played decent, except Stokes, his attitude and his ability to play in RD's formation is severely lacking which is weird taking that he has the build to play in the role. We really need a striker and another option to play holding role. But we still got a 3-0 win, and all we need to do is win games until RD gets his correct formula. I liked the way he told it as it is about the first half, we would never have got that from Lennon, and as Gordon and Van Dijk were saying it's a work in progress and we will get better as we go on.

Hail Hail

Believable0 Unbelievable0

14 Aug 2014 01:03:57
Does anyone else think that Griffiths should be given a start in the centre of the attack, instead of Stokes, I know there is an anti Griffiths lobby, but I don't think the guys being given a fair chance, which dissapoints me about RD.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think both of them are well short of Celtic standard should be replaced.
We had the chance to sign May and dithered as usual, but I seriously hope RD has noticed that neither appear to be 'playing' for him.

JJ

Agree0 Disagree0

JJ Is May really any better than Stokes or Griffiths?

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with JJ. There's lots of players I'd haveover May though, but that's a given.

For the money the board want to spend to would be the best striker we would have gotten in this window. We need a whole new strike force. The only one I'd have kept was watt but the board obviously thought different

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Aug 2014 21:39:51
Ed you must have some contacts at uefa you can phone and find out if we are in or out I'm going to be up all night watching ssn

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - The only person I know who could possibly find anything out is on high alert. I'm still confident Tam, so I'll sleep like a baby :)

{Ed007's Note - There's some murmurings coming out of Poland that Legia have been informed their appeal has failed.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Cant see any other outcome tbh. If they reinstate Legia they would need to do the whole draw again as I'm sure they would have been in a different pot than us.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - They didn't redo the draw when it was Sion and that was for the EL group stages, remember the group we ended up in because of it.}

Other teams only benefited from that Ed. We took the place of a lower pot team then. This time Legia would be moving up and taking the place of a higher ranked team who could appeall it. don't think they could chance that.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - If Legia win and move up up won't we be replacing a lower seeded team in the EL, just like we replaced Sion. If, and it's a huge IF, Legia are successful UEFA will not do another draw, we will just swap places.}
