Saw this article on Celtic's official website.
"Wee Jinky's greatest game, or one of them"
On the 13th November 1968 Celtic played Red Star Belgrade, at half time score was 1-1 and Celtic were facing a potentially difficult away tie in Belgrade. Big Jock had a wee word with Jimmy and said if we won game by more than 2 goals wee Jimmy would not have to fly to Belgrade (it was well known that Jinky was terrified of flying)
In the second half wee Jimmy ran riot and we won 5-1. proving what a great player Jimmy Johnstone was and also showing big Jock as a master at man management and psychology, and best bit about that game, as Max Boyce would say, I TIMALLOY WAS THERE, in the old jungle going mental.

The end of that story was that after that game the red star manager told jock that he had to bring jinky to Belgrade so their fans could get to see him play.

When jinky told the story he said he was ducking and diving for the next couple of weeks to avoid it.

Aye Tim, I was there. Unbelievable night. Remember big Jock saying he would never do it again but, as you said, master tactician and man-manager.

Got to laugh at the revisionists at the Scotsman. Today they have a story trying to blame the woes of the national team on sevcos "demotion".

First of all, sevco didn't get demoted they lost their place when oldco liquidated. The newco are just a tribute act to the oldco. Secondly, how can you blame the woes of the national team on the demise of rangers? From my recollection Scotland were just as pish when rangers still existed.

If you found that funny rab try reading kris boyds article in the sun it's hilarious mate.
Similar dribble along the lines of the national team has paid the price because the rangers got relegated.

He contradicts himself constantly throughout the article.

18 years without qualifying. Last 4 of those was without Rangers. It's a total non argument.

Read Boyds pish, and don't know if if made me angry or laugh. They really are a bunch of delusional sods, let's not forget how crap Scotland have been for past 20 years, and the sfa kicked them down the leagues arghhhh.

They are trying desperately to create a narrative of Rangers importance to Scottish football and no doubt those gullible bears will buy it hook line and sinker. However, the rest of us sane folk know that it is complete bollocks. A fact backed up when armageddon failed to ensue, despite being prophesied by their lackeys.

I personally don't mind reading provan or hartson in the sun.

I don't even mind reading the zombie journalists, it's always a laugh reading how times are hard and it's everyone else's fault but there own.
I'm not bitter enough to ever let the opinions of others influence my own or to let it get under my skin.

Plus my Mrs makes me buy it at weekends for the magazine.

He actually said the Scottish players they had suffered because they played in the division 3.
I thought naismith moved to everton and i'm sure mcgregor went to besiktas. He also didn't mention the Scottish players they did sign were fully aware of the league the club where playing in so it was those players choice to play there lol.

The only thing that shocked me about Boyd's column is that it wasn't written in crayon! He's hardly the brightest bulb in the pack! Lol. it says more about the halfwits who allow these things to go to print than it does about people like Boyd! They'll use any excuse to mention the fact that the old rangers got put down in Scotlands 4th tier! It really is quite pathetic! Just like they're so called attempt to stop the champs stroll to 6 in a row! #goingfor55! 😱😜😂HH.

It really was just Wallace the rest probably prospered getting away from a toxic atmosphere that was building around that place.

It's just typical of their arrogance, they'll be telling us next that their cheating and dishonesty was actually beneficial to the Scottish game.
Too many of them over there still can't see how much they have shamed football in this country.
I've no doubt that their solutions to the problems in the Scottish game would involve bribing officials at FIFA, and try to get more masonic referees taking charge of Scotland matches.
It's all quite simple really.

@wiss81 - it gets into the papers because of who is on the rangers payroll and their friends in high places.

Jack Irvine used to orchestrate things for oldco and Jim traynor is doing the same for newco. The fact that it made the Scotsman suggests David Murray is still involved at rangers as this stinks of his Edinburgh connections.

Interesting take on the media and control. When I was at school (not quite chalk and slates) I had to meet with the careers officer. I told him I really wanted to get into journalism. He asked If I had relatives or friends already in. When I said no, he suggested other careers. We met in the pub across from the school a couple of days later and off the record (there's a pun if ever) he told me I was at the wrong school and kicked with the wrong foot. He told my big mate, John Bourke, that he had heard Rangers were interested in him but the school etc. made it a non- starter. (John ended up signing for Dundee Utd) .

No Sunday pint today with my ex bear pals and "bigot in suit" is in London to attend Cenotaph today and try and meet his hero "Elizebeth R"

But to continue on from my post
yesterday about Christmas shopping.
Here is what I do and I am guessing most men, I get the girls and Mrs T to write down say, name of perfume and size of the bottle ( as a mere male I have been caught out before thinking bigger is better, not with perfume it's not) Also why do perfume bottles have to be shaped like stars, sputniks, crescents etc. and names like Poison, Opium, Musk?
I digress, so having my list, I go to say John Lewis, also go midweek early when store is empty, but even though I know name of perfume actually FINDING said perfume for a man is tortue, what I do is find an perfumery assistant hand them the girls list and let her take me to the asked for perfumes, once found pay for them and out of store in 10 minutes (are you listening Mrs T, TEN MINUTES, ) leaving me plenty of time to go to bookies and read Racing Post and have a coffee.

Tomalley if u are foolish enough to bring the wife Christmas Shopping bring her to a pub near the shops and have a quiet coffee before the shopping . Explain to her that u have your eye on an unique and very expensive present for her and it's so special u need to search for it there and then . Result wife will run around happily shop after shop and you enjoy comforts of the pub . Meet again at the agreed time and wife will be happy with u all evening . Before Christmas you will have plenty of opportunity to pick up what to you is " unique and expensive ", never fails.

Does anybody else think kt being injured preventing him playing at Wembley may be a blessing in disguise, because imo if he played the way he's played this year, especially in CL we may have been fending off bids in Jan,

Believable1 Unbelievable0

13 Nov 2016 14:15:18
I don't think we need to worry about KT leaving anytime soon. I'm confident we will knock back any bid unless it is obscene.

The wee man wants to stay and I'm sure Rodgers wants that as well. I reckon we will see the building of a team under Rodgers and our stars will stay unless they hand in transfer request.

Playing in Wembley would just be another stepping stone in K Tierney's development . I like Rabmac, have no concerns about Kieran leaving us any time soon . It's true he may get more money elsewhere but where will he get playing ChampionsLeague football regularly and playing in Cup semi finals and finals, as well as playing for the club that was definitely his boy hood team.

{Ed007's Note - Funnily enough I knew Marc pretty well through JP McBride. After being released he played for a few clubs in the lower leagues before heading to Australia to play for Perth Glory I think it was.}

Thanks for the reply ed I still talk about him to my dad saying this bhoy was outstanding definitely at the time was head and shoulders above the rest.

{Ed007's Note - We've had a few young players over the years that were quality but never made it.}
