IF wilder is our new manager i am concerned. he will get my full backing but he will need to earn my trust and faith. next season is simple. regain the league title. if he is in the post and does that then he is my man. if not then?

Gents, Thoughts on Chris Wilder being our next manager? Apparently he doesn’t like having a DOF while he is a manager, so the fact that we are appointing a DOF might not work for him? Hail Hail.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - People said Rodgers couldn't work with a DOF yet he worked with worse interference at Liverpool, worked with Lawwell and moved to Leicester whose DOF John Rudkin has been in place since 2014.}

See the Sun are at it again reportng Keane interested in Celtic Job got to be rubbish surely.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Mar 2021 07:57:06
I have a lot of admiration for Keane as a player and a person but don't think he is the right man to manage us.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Mar 2021 22:50:00
Get on the phone to Roy Keane ASAP Ed; This must be a wind-up?
How can Celtic still be swaying and dithering at this stage when they must have known Lennon was leaving for weeks?
Reckon it's media hype, but worryingly it wouldn't be the first time the media influenced or even engineered a club into hasty decisions.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I'm sure DD knows by now who he wants so perhaps everything is in place and they're just waiting for the stars to align (other people's contracts or priorities etc) before announcing things.
Just because nothing's been made public doesn't meant the Club are swaying and dithering.}

Chris Wilder is the new Celtic manager?

Rubbish.

Agree1 Disagree0

13 Mar 2021 20:04:04
Not for me. Poor signings by him led to Sheffield Utd relegated. McBurnie our replacement for Eduard next season if Wilder came in.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Mar 2021 20:12:10
I would expect our DOF to be appointed first and then he have a massive say in who our next manager will be.
Perhaps we already know who our DOF will be and he wants Wilder.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Mar 2021 20:31:59
Buzz, our club doesn't do things as the fans expect them to do them. It's a regular theme at Celtic. Maybe both will be announced together. Maybe it is Harkin and Wilder, maybe one and not the other and maybe neither. We're all guessing. HH.

Agree1 Disagree0

13 Mar 2021 20:56:12
It is obviously still heresay as I have not managed to corroborate what I read on the Sheffield Utd blog.

Agree1 Disagree0

13 Mar 2021 21:41:24
Any manager who would allow 20 million of the clubs funds slip for McBurnie needs his head looked at.

I got a reaction from you guys the other day with who I think or would like to see in Paradise let it be known Roy Keane and John Collins are cut from the same cloth winners guy's who won't accept slackers pizza munching beer guzzling types they will set standards and if you don't accept get on your way. Most teams in world football have scored more goals in a week the Sheffield UTD have all this season. No chance will he be a success another disaster Mowbray Would be better.

I bought my family home off my brothers and sisters. I'm here ard a year now. I was up in the attic and found a box belonging to me when I was younger Pedro ard 30yrs ago. Found all my old Celtic kits vintage ones now. Any old duvet set (which my wife won't let me use now. And the Packie Bonner story book and vcr tape both I got signed by Packie Bonner when Celtic came to play Cork City ina preseason in 1992. I remember clearly going with my late father. So happy to find them as they were present my dad bought me for xmas. It was all things Celtic.

Superb cork Paul, I have quite a few of my old kits still, as well as programmes my dad gave me going back to the 70s. The 1 thing I'm gutted I don't have is my Celtic bomber jacket from the late 80s early 90s (I think) , used to wear all the time thinking I was cool as fook lol
Also have a Kenny dal book which he's signed too, which was my mums.
Wish I had the duvet although like yours mine wouldn't let me use it either, doesn't go with the colour scheme Haha.

That's really cool Paul especially considering they were a present from your Dad.

Reminds me of a story my wife told me when she was over in Donegal one time, a few years ago and was walking up by the golf course called Cruitch Island, right on the Atlantic. She was with my late father-in-law (lifelong Celtic supporter) , her Papi (legend) , her Sister and her future Brother-in-law (a Sevconian) when they came across a couple of gents playing golf.

They duly waited as one of the men was about to hit his shot but he must have heard them and turned around looked down at the future brother-in-law and said 'walk on' in that Donegal lilt, waiving him forward.

It was none other than big Packie himself and brought more than a smile to the faces of all there except the future brother-in-law, who's face was a picture.

It's 15 years ago today that James Connolly Johnstone (Jinky) passed away at only 61 years of age.

I'm sure a few of the more senior bhoys on this site will seen him play back in the day and could tell a story or two about the magic he possessed in those boots.

Never forgotten.

JIMMY ‘JINKY’ JOHNSTONE

I was leaning a place in Coatbridge one night and the young team were gathered around a bonfire wearing the hoops and enjoying the local drink. They spotted wee Jimmy and starting singing ‘Jimmy Johnstone on the Wing’. A guy asked Jimmy ‘Do you want us to take you out the back door? ’ ‘Naw’ came the reply. Five minutes later Jimmy was signing all the laddies Celtic jerseys.

He knew he’d never be safer than he was that night and he had no need or desire to leave by the back door.

He was among his own.

REQUIESCAT IN PACE.

13 Mar 2021 17:32:26
Jinky was a character.
Years ago he made our Supporters Club’s dance a brilliant night when we staged it in the Jock Stein lounge.
He also apologised to our members, when our Player of the year left after only a couple of minutes.
He picked up his expensive award and left.
Wee Jinky was raging.

13 Mar 2021 17:37:34
Met him outside a boozer, I was 'off school' and out with my dad when he used to fill fag machines on pubs (much more interesting n he always got me s chippy on the way home) . Anyway my dad said that's jinky n I'm like no way, sends me out to ask for his autograph n he was like aye son nae bother, could not have been nicer. Then I went back to my dad in the van, couldn't wipe the smile off my face as jinky disappeared inside the boozer at 11 in the morning lol.

My Grandad used to say he knew jinky. And said he used to talk to him as he ran around a park in Birkenshaw. My grandad was a complete bullr though lol. But everytime I see Jinky's name it always gives me a feeling of melancholy. My fathers gravestone is very close to his and noticed this at his funeral. Those who know will know exactly where that is. My old man never drank a drop in his life because his dad was a mad drunk but his love of ciggies ended everything just as he retired with lung cancer. I think Cork Paul has got me all sentimental lol.

Agree3 Disagree0

13 Mar 2021 18:05:41
The only Celtic great I ever had the pleasure of meeting was Lenny in his heyday playing days. He was home in Lurgan and I knew a couple of his extended but not immediate family. It was a brief meeting in fairness but I really felt like I was in the company of a star and I was a bit star struck to be honest. Also, my dad (who's still alive) was a second cousin of the great George Best but I never met him. MY dad said he did meet him a few times when they were both kids and long before George became a footballer. HH.

I think you're right JFP.

Cork Paul's story brings together lots of stories and memories that we all have.

Memories that take us back to a place in time that are as fresh in our hearts and minds today, as if they took place yesterday.

I love reading the stories and experiences of the Bhoys on here, in our wee community, especially given everything that's going on in the world right now.

First saw Jinky in a reserve Celtic v Rangers match in the days when that would attract a 30,000 crowd. I’d heard rumours about him, but he was just a wee skelf! The left back for Rangers that day was a big burly defender called Doug Baillie who was in the twilight of his career. ( His son Lex later played for Celtic ) .
It was an annihilation and a harbinger of many such performances. I saw it up close from the front of the jungle that day and I can see it still! Film footage does him no justice: he took your breath away with the things he could do with a ball!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Doug Baillie the journalist? His Mrs was Grotbags headmistress at Low Waters and owned the house just as you turned into Silvertonhill at Glen James(?) Motors - a tattooist now maybe(?). Didn't Lex become a copper?}

Faster fitter stronger.
Thats what our motto should be going forwatd.
Whats surprised me most this seasom is the lack of fitnes and athleticism.
When Lennon was appointed this is what i expected, a leaner fitter and bigger sude.
Its comical to me that the only one that seemed to do anythin ladt year about his physique was Klamala.
I mean what were the others doing.
The only ones i exclude from this is Calmac and Ayer and mibi Christie.
The rest need to do better.
Taylor was touted as the fittest post lockdown yet every time i see him he is blowin out his arse.
Im hearing young Wright from the dark side has already put on a few pounds in muscle already that's what i expect from pros.
Even eddy could put on a couple of extra muscled pounds for me.
Hazard and Barkas could get stronger mentally and physicly.
So could Julien Taylor Soro and Ajeti needs to change his sbape.
We have lost a lot of athleticism last few yrs with the likes of KT, VVD, Denayer, Sinclair, Armstrong etc, we need to get it back.

Agree1 Disagree0

13 Mar 2021 16:16:35
You expected a leaner, fitter side when NL was appointed? You obviously don't remember his last time in charge mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Mar 2021 16:32:34
Bubs he bouvht the likes of VVD Big Vic Forster Ledley and Hooper was lightning quick.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Mar 2021 18:19:38
Rayman he also had the likes of Mulgrew, Commons and Stokes. RD said the standards for fitness were poor when he joined. The standards of fitness dropped first and second time in charge. I don't blame NL btw. Sports science had moved on massively since his time as a player and his coaching experience has been nominal outside of Celtic.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Mar 2021 20:06:42
Bubs it was more about the style of player he likes. I E big strong athletic types similar to Oneil.
You do pick strange players tho as KC scored 30 in his first season and while fitness is a big factor no one cares if your doing the business.
If LG scored 30 this season no one would care about his fitness.
Mulgrew was def a fit player and stokes never had fitness problems only attitude problems.
But your right science and fitness has moved on and we still bring in Ajeti and Duffy. Madness.

Obviously depending who comes in would u offer Broony the same kinda offer player/ coach that has been rumoured in the rags with Stephen glass and Aberdeen?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

13 Mar 2021 15:01:16
Neilybhoy, apparently we're offering Brown a 1 year deal.

I'd like him to stay, possibly as part of the new coaching set up, but no where near 25K a week.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Mar 2021 15:32:40
I think Broony has a huge amount to contribute next season and for many years to come in different roles. He's committed to Celtic and has always given everything. Hopefully the club see his long term worth and keep him involved at a high level within the club and not in a meaningless capacity. HH.

Agree1 Disagree0

13 Mar 2021 16:17:31
As captain does he not have a clause that matches the salary of the highest paid player at the club? Thought that was standard in football now?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - That would probably be waived if any new offer and I think he would probably become Club captain rather than the team captain as well.}

13 Mar 2021 16:43:12
Paying someone 8 to 10 grand a week to motivate the squad is bizarre. If they offer very little on the park what's the point. Is it not the managers job to motivate the players. Sentiment doesn't win trophies.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Mar 2021 16:56:13
Auf1888, from what I've seen of Broony he clearly has a fabulous work ethic. I'm sure he's capable of bringing much more to the table than shouting 'come on lads' in the dressing room. HH.

Agree0 Disagree0

You could pick Thousands out the stand with a magnificent work ethic. They wouldn't win us football games either and pay for the privilege to shout " come on lads". Police Scotland have visited numerous Celtic fans at their homes to warn them about not turning up at Celtic Park next Sunday.
I’m guessing these fans are in the Green Brigade because most of the fans have no previous convictions.
Being in the Green Brigade isn’t a crime.
Surely this is more harassment from Police Scotland towards our supporters.

Good idea.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Mar 2021 13:04:22
A factor of NL's failed tenure was the absence of supporters to get behind the team, encourage, inspire and even criticize when a lot of the players were clearly out of sorts, struggling or distracted.
I think the support are desperate to get this season out their system and get back inside Paradise to release a lot of the tension, sadness and frustrations of these long months past and whoever gets the job will receive a very warm welcome and vocal backing.

Onceabhoy. Neil Lennons failure came about because he changed Rodgers winning formula. If its not broken, DON'T FIX IT.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Mar 2021 15:14:11
The only way that will happen is if the board appoint someone for us to get behind.

If they appoint Kennedy, I can guarantee there will be a backlash from the fans.

Just remember how people felt when we appointed Lennon full time after winning the treble treble. Now magnify that feeling and you will get close to how a lot of fans will feel if Kennedy or somebody rubbish is appointed because at least there was some positive on the day they gave Lennon the job.

A do like big chris sutton but saying we need to spend 60 million to catch them isn't right. All about how you spend the money could do it with a third of that. Our squad ain't as bad as folk think, with correct manager and coaching the players will raise their standards.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

13 Mar 2021 12:28:11
Agree Gar. I saw that. That is an outrageous comment from Chris Sutton .

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Mar 2021 12:48:14
I think it was a bit much too lads. It's vital we get the correct set up done with the DOF and then the manager asap. We do have decent players who for a number of reason failed to perform. Just look at the other side who have a lot of decent players but have performed to max levels. Once we can get the structure right we want then there is no reason we can't get back on track. It's not that long ago we would say maybe 2 or 3 of their players might get in Celtic side. Now that has turned so we need to get this right.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Mar 2021 13:28:09

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Mar 2021 14:14:01
Chris Sutton garbage 60.000000. Now we know why after he finished football he could do nothing else and zero ambition also gave nothing back to football.
It won't take much spending we have the nuclious of as gd team but Celtic problem is buying player who are no where near ready to step up. Keep us local there are great players out there in the spfl but they need to be at 100% every game. Not just play a blinder when they play against Celtic.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Mar 2021 15:15:10
With the right manager in place and the strengthening of a few positions we will be ready for the challenge of next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Mar 2021 16:20:46
Considering we need to replace most of the squad he's not far wrong. With the exception of McGregor, Turnbull, Forrest and Soro do you want any of the rest of them?

That's taking into account Edouard, Christie and Ajer wanting away.

We may spend 60m but the net spend after selling would be considerably less.

Ed 007

What's your thoughts on the Celtic Trust?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I think the intentions are good but with any fan group eventually egos will eventually take over and what people are forgetting about this fan representation on the board is that once your on the board you're bound by the same rules & regulations and confidences as all the board members.
I think any notion of the fans having any real say in the Club is fanciful at best and the egos would clash when it comes to who would actually be the rep - if it did ever happen for me the simple solution to that would be getting JP Taylor to do it.}

13 Mar 2021 12:58:38

I was thinking the exact same thing Ed. With any large group there will be a difference of opinions, which will make it extremely difficult to manage and get consensus. Add to that how passionate some of us are and would let our heart rule our heads.

I am more than happy with DD and the way he is running the club and hopefully he has learned from the mistakes of this season. We just need to get the correct appointments in and back the rebuild (which is not as big as some people are making out) .

It will NEVER HAPPEN but.

I was thinking would it not be a nice way to end his association with Celtic that Mr Lawwell came out and APOLOGISED for his mistakes.
In my eyes it would show a bit of humility from someone we fans perceive as an arrogant, egotististical man.
Organisational wise Lawwell had no equals he built Celtic Football Club into a viable, modern thinking and SOLVENT club, but his interference in the football side left a lot to be desired. I am thinking mainly of McGinn who would have been Brown's natural successor and probably captain also, then there is Ivan Toney who has scored 26 goals this season and 50 goals in only two seasons, he would have been French Eddies natural replacement.
Over to you Peter.

Notwithstanding this season which was a monumental act of self harm I think Peter Lawells achievements significantly outweigh his failures sufficiently not to warrant an apology and I’m as disappointed as anybody.

At least he got a heated driveway out the gig 🤣 but although I never agreed with a lot of the transfer business done, especially mcginn and toney who woukd vastly improve our team, we were usually financially sound under his tenure. but definitely time for change.

He doesn't strike me as the apologizing type or someone who either sees or admits their faults?

For someone so financially motivated, the failure to capitalise on CL entry money by not preparing for qualifiers over the last decade is utterly baffling to me. I know we don’t have a guarantee we’d get there, but, think we never gave ourselves the best chance. That was down to HIM!

I don’t know why his heated driveway hits a nerve to the extent it does. 😂

A tad pretentious and undoubtedly a luxury but hardly a crime against humanity.

McGinn wanted down south. Regardless what anyone says. We eventually matched the offer and he rejected it.
If he had really wanted us he would have signed.
We were used to lever a deal and, like Celtics original offer, it's just business.
As for directors etc. Apologising, we have to remember anything said by them can affect stocks and shares prices so they are always guarded in comments.

He failed to. get us into the CL 9 out of the last 12 years by going cheap and never being prepared. How a CEO can miss the biggest financial target 75% of the time us regarded as a good businessman bamboozled me. I won't muss his dithering cheap skate punt addiction. Good riddance from me.

Tiny am convinced we flaffed about that much and wasted precious time that boy would have signed. we fell asleep like toney who's banging them away.

An apology for this season would be nice, but so would him personally paying for a season ticket for every fan that bought one this year. The latter is also more likely.

If I were in Lawwell's shoes during the McGinn transfer, I would have done the exact same. If McGinn had really wanted to sign for us then he would have done so and told Hibs he was not going anywhere else. Instead he chose Villa, which is not the fault of Lawwell. Keep in mind we match the offer.

Looks like some of our younger player will be getting a chance real shortly. In particular Dane Murray as we look at options to see out the rest of this disappointing season.

Happy 80th Birthday to John Clark.
The "Lisbon Lion" had a formidable partnership with his Captain Billy McNeill.
Billy was good in the air and John Clark would be there to sweep up behind him if need be and that got him the nickname "brush".
John played 140 consecutive games from 1965 to 1967 and he played every game in our historic 1966/ 67 season.
Only Tommy Gemmell shares that magnificent record.
Celtic has been a massive part of John Clark's life.
He grew up a supporter and then played for the club for 13 years and has now been the kit man for over 2 decades.
Only Wullie Maley has given Celtic longer service than John Clark in our long unbroken history.
