If nobody leaves in summer do we need to spend?

Yes our defence is woeful in europe.

I think we need to strengthen. Our performances this season have been good enough hopefully to win another treble, but it is plain to see in some of our games that teams are now able to frustrate us. We have dropped a lot of points at home this year because of this.
The wins over sevco recently although great to watch, shouldn't in my opinion lull us into a complacency about how far ahead we are. Sevco were a shambles.
I think a better way of looking at it is that Hibs and Kilmarnock only lost one of their four league games against us this season, and even St Johnstone were unbeaten in their two matches at Celtic park.
For whatever reason, opposition teams although not beating us very often, are making life a lot harder for us and making the games very frustrating.
Hopefully the club will look at this at the end of the season.

Celtic are notorious for being content and not strengthening during periods of success; however I believe BR will change this habit.
It's no secret that we need to improve in European competition and the current domestic season has shown that teams have learned how to play against us and - Sevco apart - have improved their squads and results against us, especially at Celtic Park.
I also think that we will definitely lose a few players in the summer either by the choice of the player or our manager and we will have some new faces and hopefully more quality to progress and flourish.

Spot on Gerry, I personally think it’s night and day comparing BR two seasons but potentially with the same end result 😂😂

We really do need 2-3 better quality players fir Europe, otherwise it will be another hide behind the couch campaign.

The defence really needs a major upgrade as Tierney and Ajer are the only players good enough imo the rest are average at best.

Irish Kiwi . I agree with you up to a point, that our defence is woeful in Europe . However we both have to remember that our team defends as a team . So are we saying everyone is bad in Europe .
For my part, I think the draws for Group Stages of the Champions League have been very unkind to us . if we continue to be drawn against clubs who can spend 5-6 times our transfer budget on one single player every year, we will continue to struggle . I know we are lightly to be in the third or fourth ranked teams, but surely there are eager grioups than we have had over the last 2 yrs.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 May 2018 16:00:33
Chris the top 2 seeds in almost any group are able to outspend us by £100 to £200mill a season. The 3rd team usually also have a larger budget so unless we are very very lucky we are always going to be miles behind financially. I don't really think we have a prayer in CL terms but we should expect to qualify and get a run, not just 1 game in Europa. 3 or 4 quality players and its possible.

Speaking to journalists about his 2 years in charge of Celtic, Brendan Rodgers revealed he had "lots of offers to manage other clubs" including a big money move to China.
When asked why he never took the Chinese job, Rodgers said "ffs they wanted me to take Morelos with me, and that killed the deal stone dead".

Believable8 Unbelievable1

12 May 2018 16:16:33
The Chinese connection is everywhere TIM I heard the Huns managers interview where when discussing his favourite cheese being Brie or Camembert etc and his answer was MELTED. It would appear they have appointed little known manager Wan-Fik-Fuk! 😂👍☘️.

Too true JFP. Collectively Gerard and his bottler of a baw bag assistant McAllister are known in Hong Kong as Two-fik-fuks.

Looks like Paddy has lost his Celtic mojo and wants to play in the EPL. Fair enough, he did well for us and we'll have some fond memories of him. I wish him well wherever he ends up. Unfortunately injuries have prevented him from making the same impact for us this season as he did in the previous one. HH.

12 May 2018 15:28:27
Yes he did well last season, but he really didn't contribute this season . A loan player not contributing is absolutely no use to us . I wish him well, I hope he gets an EPL club and earns the money he yearns.

Agree1 Disagree1

13 May 2018 00:23:22
He doesn’t seem like he yearns money Chris. He seems like he’s loved his 2 and a half seasons here (not much shorter than a lot of our better permanent signings) but wants to broaden his horizons and challenge himself in a better league.

12 May 2018 13:05:26
So Ed, just seen Roberts confirm he went be here next season, as sad as that is, do you think we will try to replace him? Doubt we will truly replace him but need a winger if he goes.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed007's Note - What about Ryan Christie?}

12 May 2018 13:26:21
I like Christie, always have but feel he's at his best in a central role. Seen him used wide left and might have played wide right against midweek but he was quiet from what I seen.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 May 2018 15:31:12
I am sure B R will try to replace, the player we had last season, but it isn't easy to find a good winger at the right money prepared to come and work as hard as BR demands a winger to work.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 May 2018 15:47:38
Celtic bhoy . we are not talking about jimmy Johnstone here . nothing against the boy decent player but in his time here he had a good 6 month . forrest has replaced him already . and we have Christie. Morgan and young Mikey Johnstone . and not forgetting calum who can play there . not a great loss imo. we aren't going to fall apart without him . as I said nothing against the boy if he stayed great but when he goes i wish him good luck to the bhoy in his career.

What about James McLean?

Agree0 Disagree0

12 May 2018 16:53:51
DD. james McLean is johnny hayes younger clone😁. joking aside is he better than what we have?

Agree0 Disagree0

12 May 2018 18:43:19
Mickey Johnston could be the answer next season. I know he usually plays left wing but I reckon Rodgers will try and play him on the right as he is left footed.

So probably have Forrest and Johnston as back up.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 May 2018 18:56:34
DRB, i actually quite like McLean as a player and think he is quite under rated. Another winger i like is Adama Traore at Boro.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 May 2018 21:19:02
Can't wait to see Johnston develop into another great Celtic youth player capable of holding his own in the team.

13 May 2018 18:37:03
Ryan Christie or Paddy. not a hard one.

12 May 2018 10:58:56
Actually think McGregor has become so techincally gifted he could fill in at right wing if asked to. He could play anywhere. Had to laugh with the links to Bournemouth for £10m. McGregor is as valuable at KT in my opinion. Hope he is a Celt for life, always comes across well and his attitude is fantastic. Love watching him play.

He's a manager's dream.
Aye boss just gee me the shirt and I will play anywhere you want.
He's worked incredibly hard for 4 seasons and the recognition he's starting to receive from the fans is well deserved.

Well said Kev 👍.

Mc Gregor seems delighted to play for Celtic . So delighted he would play anywhere and he has a great sense of timing of arriving in the right place to receive a pass in a wee bit of space. I agree he is a manager's dream but I think he is his team's mates dream also.

12 May 2018 15:55:08
A great role model for any youngster in the Academy Chris. I know he is signed up until 2020 but i would reward him the same as we are doing Griffiths. Let's get McGregor on a new 5 year deal asap.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 May 2018 18:47:26
McGregor has always been technically gifted but was held back by his lifestyle.

However, since Rodgers took over he has sorted that out and seems far more committed to improving himself as a player. So well done to the lad for making the most of this opportunity as he is turning in to a cracking player.

So it seems like farewell to Paddy. Such a shame he had a terrible time with injuries, and the bad luck for his return to coincide with a resurgent Jamesy. A huge part of the Invincibles treble team and a player who lifted us off our seats.

So, Lewis Morgan. Big boots to fill and good luck to Paddy.

Bit gutted really, definitely thought we should have used him more this season as JF was fairly everage after Christmas. Maybe Brendan knew he wasn’t planning on staying with us, it’s a shame as I loved watching him play . Hopefully we will have another winger lined up to push us on again as James like most wingers can be up and down with form.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 May 2018 12:34:49
Not really bothered if that the path he wants

Like Hooper and Ledley later realise it was a mistake to leave he will too

But in fairness to the lad he is English so at some stage it's natural that will be his platform.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 May 2018 13:01:15
Quinn1888 we do have another winger lined up. Morgan plus we have Christie returning as well.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 May 2018 13:15:14
OK guys question is, do we give him a place in our cup final squad, or say "thank you Paddy, but cup final places are for permanent players staying".

Agree0 Disagree1

12 May 2018 13:35:28
Why do that paddy was instrumental in our invincible season so let's make him have the send off he deserves.

12 May 2018 15:24:11
No Forrest should start.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 May 2018 15:39:51
Marco. , I would agree but many people on here have been on B R's back for losing the odd game this season and having draws, according them we are near crisis point and need whole new team for next season . No room for sentiment, but at the same time I would stick him down fon subs bench and if he came on and set up or scored the winner I would celebrate.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 May 2018 16:31:07
Kev, I’m aware we have both players coming in but it’s a fair jump for Morgan to come from championship to us and improve us straight away but I hope he proves me wrong. Christie as well I would say he’s more an attacking midfielder but again I don’t think he would improve us . There have been many before these two players that have come from local teams when being there best players and not quite able to improve us / prove better than what we already have. If you asked the majority of fans if they had a choice between keeping Roberts full time or bringing back Christie and using Morgan, I would presume the outcome would weigh heavily in favour of Roberts permanently . I appreciate he wants to go back south which is his prerogative but looking at the bigger picture and us improving ( which is what we all want ) I would think a better player than Christie will be needed. We all know how inconsistent Forrest can be so that was the point I was trying to make . 👍.

12 May 2018 17:29:34
I love Paddy, I really do, but I think he slows out play down a lot. I think we are more dynamic when he is not in the team. That said, if you need a bit of magic then Paddy can provide it all day long. Good luck Paddy and thanks for the memories but give me a KT, SB or CM all day long.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 May 2018 22:43:23
Think Christie will come home to push forrest. That he can also play in the centre is just gravy. PR was always going to want to challenge himself in the English game, but I don't think we've seen the last of him somehow.
