Celtic are needing to go and splash the cash on finnbogasson and snodgrass sell Forster to pay for them sell all the dead wood like kyal boerogter blade muykolo and bleed all our young talent into the team over the coarse of next season like Henderson mgregor watt and twartick! If we got they two in we would be some force in Europe even away from home with that bit of class up front with snoddy and commons behind him! Ano everyone is thinking am nuts buys that's what's needed this year quality over quantity that team isn't far away best back line for years just lacks a touch of class in the final third!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't think you're nuts. I'll be hoping, no, almost demanding we sign two players of Snodgrass' or Finnbogason's quality, and then some! Without even needing to sell Forster to fund it!

Agree0 Disagree0

The guy flat out refused us! Not for me, he can swivel! Playing for Celtic is an honor. I agree about the quality but not from him. There must be a player out there that's just as good but would actually want to sign for us. Ed has it spot on though. We need to raise our wages limit 25 to 30. If we do that we would get a lot better players in the door. I have a feeling we are all going to be very pee'd off at the end of this window. Lenny is going to Brazil on his holiday it's not like we will be able to sign anyone good from the world cup so why are we wasting time scouting it?

Agree0 Disagree0

Who refused us? Certainly wasn't Finnbogason. Celtic pulled the plug on the deal over £500k in the bank (yet spent the same amount it would've cost to get AF on Balde, Pukki n Boerrigter who managed about 30 starts between them in all competitions). Finnbogason posted YNWA on Twitter the night he was linked with us and repeatedly said he'd listen to ALL offers, something he's reiterated this weekend.

I see some teams have now started letting managers and players go, others have already made bids for players.
On the Norwich website it says an announcement on a new manager will be made in 7 days, if Lennon is interested he should tell fans NOW and go. If Celtic want Snodgrass then put in a bid NOW. As an aside I would also love to see Ruddy come here if Fraser leaves.
I hope board have all contingincies covered and act quickly on all fronts.

Don't want to get to hung up on the exact marking, just looking for an idea of how the posters thought about our progress. A manager is ultimately judged on how much he can get out of his squad . The marking system in my head would be along the lines of, 2 for a league win, 2 for making the champions league, 1 for getting though it, 1 mark for each of the cups, 1 for youth development, 1 for conduct of manager and players and 1 for transfer market activities, all things the manager can control . So my 6 would be 2 for league 2 for champ league 1 for conduct and the controversial one a mark for transfers for reasons I stated in the org post ( yes I do think we could and should be shopping in a higher priced market but that is peter lawells department not Neil lennons ).

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Progress? None.

Lennon has had one hand tied. The lack of reinvestment p!ssed me off last summer, and we seemed to be split on the subject on here. Well results this season are the only indicator.

That said, no excuses for the cup exits like ours, or at too many times the overall lack of a Cavalier approach against teams who are quite simply not very good.

My verdict is I'd like NL to get one more season but with the sort of backing from the board he should get. If we start operating like a CL club, domestic affairs should take care of themselves. We're in a position now where many actually question our ability to qualify for the CL. Why has this happened?

Congrats to big Fraz for being selected in the ENG-GER-LUND world cup squad. Just shows all the other players it can be achieved in the 'lowly SPL' Fingers crossed that fud Joe Hart gets shampoo in his eyes and the great wall turns on the style.

Yes well done Fraser, but I'll cheer quietly if he actually gets a game and let's one in between his legs! lol

Hail Hail

International football, I support two teams, Scotland and whoever is playing Engerlund. When he pulls on that England shirt he is not representing the Celtic. However, I wld hate to see his confidence affected as that would then show in his Celtic form. All that aside, he is a very good goalkeeper but reliant on the 10 players in front of him. I don't think HE will let his team down

Big Peter better not get wind of the Ex Hearts Goalie McDonald being released because he is a half decent keeper and with Big Fraser being picked by the English, would mean a healthy profit if he sells Forster. Hail Hail

I found a website which sells fake kits and in the past couple of seasons, usually gets them spot on well in advance of official release. If you google aliexpress then search New 14/15 Celtic FC Blank Green Yellow Strip, you will see it. It does look cheap and fake but as I said, the website is notorious for selling fake kits. I'll stick a photo of how it will most likely look on Celtic website in the Celtic sightings page

I wouldn't mind seeing something along the lines of the yellow + green Umbro/CR Smith effort from 1988 again:

I think they've used a shiny material which makes it look really cheap.

So what do you give this season out of 10 ed, I said last season was a 7.5 to 8 . So this season is a 6 out of 10 at best, to be knocked out the cups by any Scottish team at HOME is unacceptable . We were quite lucky to make the champions league and it showed when we got their . So all in all ( even though it pains me to say so ) we have moved backwards quite considerably and it maybe time for a change of manager . I don't buy the excuses about selling our stars, big Virgil is better than Wilson, johansen is as good as wanyama and we have scored more goals this season so we haven't missed Hooper ( who I don't want back by the way, as my personal opinion is he was lazy and overrated. Think there are mutch better options out their, for the transfer fee and wages involved ) . Worst of all I don't think Neil has give the youngsters a real go ( other than fisher who he was forced to use ) why play Sammy or kayal in the last 7 or 8 games, why not play 3 or 4 youngsters in the games, who gives a sh!t where we end up in the under 21 league .

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I wouldn't be that kind Fab, I'd give this season a 4/10 at best. NL kept identifying markers throughout the season (unbeaten runs, 100 points etc) and failed on every single one and things are not going to get any better with him at the helm.}

6/10 for me as well. Winning the league, never mind by 29 points and qualifying for the Champions League will always be pass marks.

Overall report - has the ability however lacks concentration at times, easily distracted and could do better.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm with Ed here, the season's not even half marks. A 10/10 season would be a Treble and a CL Last 16 or EL QF campaign. A league title, no domestic cup finals and limping out of Europe without a fight gets a 4/10 max from me!

Agree0 Disagree0

With Ed07 and Hamiltonbhoy who I think are being generous!

If you were to award points for the following achievements, say win the league 2, win the cup 2, win the diddy cup 2, European Qualification 2 and blooding youngsters 2, that's 10, so fair to say 4 would be about right.

Agree0 Disagree0

With your scoring points BadBhoy, we can get more points for not winning the league but doing well in the Cups.

Your opinion obviously but I would defo put more emphasis on winning the league and would say not winning the league is the daddy of all fails.

Agree0 Disagree0

Aye that's right mrs e. 6/10. This coming from previous posts, surprising

Agree0 Disagree0

Aye DN, I often find it surprising when football fans give pass marks for being crowned Champions of their Country. Shocker, haud the front page.

Agree0 Disagree0

Definitely Mrs. E, I would place more emphasis on winning the league but this was a points awarding exercise, realistically I should have awarded zero points for winning the league seeing as all we have to do is turnup and it's ours, maybe then I could award points for unbeaten runs, clean sheet records, least goals conceded, qualifying to the Europaleague or knockout stages of the CL

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with most posts 6/10 purely for winning league and making the CL. Our cup record is pathetic. Not entirely NL's fault our co-efficiant is garbage, we have doen our bit in many ways. It still gets my blood boiling that countries can gt 3 teams automatically into CL group phase and the league champions of European countries have to qualify. They should never be calling it the CL.

Hi everyone just some thoughts for next season
what team would you like to see in the champions league

Forster - Marshall - Boruc
Lustig - Mathews - Fisher
Izaguirre - Twardzik - Robertson
Ambrose - Toshney - A.N.Other (Mouyokolo)
Van Djik - Mulgrew - Fraser
Forrest - Snodgrass- Macgregor
Brown - Kayal -Irvine
Biton - Johanson - Henderson
Commons - Herron - Mackay- Stevens
Stokes - Fridjosson - May
Griffiths - Watt - Finnbogason

Of course there are others who might like to see instead, Taylor-Sinclair, Guald, Armstrong, Hopper, Johannsson, Ince, Russell, Pawlett, Cifti. S Fletcher
My own favourite would be to get D Fletcher on loan
John

Believable0 Unbelievable0

3goalies and 30 outfield players we could win the world cup nevermind cl with your line up

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd like to see us get rid of Izzy, Ambrose, Stokes, Boerrigter, Balde, Mouyokolo, Griffiths, Kayal + Forrest then bring in Kasper Schmeichel (Leicester), Harry Maguire (Sheff Utd), Alex Buttner (Man Utd), Seko Fofana (Man City, loan), Jonathan Soriano (RB Salzburg), Aron Johannsson (AZ), Robert Snodgrass (Norwich), Ross McCormack (Leeds) + Alfred Finnbogason (Heerenveen). I'd also like to see Sammy given a new deal.

Agree0 Disagree0

If we assume no major player losses then I think our current squad should be capable of winning a treble with the return of watt and mcgregor. To progress in Europe we need a centre back to pair with Virgil, a creative midfielder to play alongside brown and johansen, a wide player who can stay fit and a quality striker. I prefer not to mention the players I would like to see as I think the club wants unknown potential and I want players who are ready now and I usually don't get excited about signing from Iceland/Israel/Norway etc

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi deep river bhoy you pick 1 player for each position to start the champions league not all 33

Agree0 Disagree0

Why izzy in? He is much better this season than last. I'd move him into lm and put mulgrew at lb. I think izzy would shine there. The rest I agree with though. Although if we did get rid of that many players we wouldn't be qualifying for the champions league because big Pete would just go and buy half of hibs as replacements haha

Agree0 Disagree0

I feel if we got an offer for Izzy I wouldn't be upset to see him go, still too many times on match day I find myself saying his name for the wrong reasons. I agree he'd do better at LB but for some reason it's never been tried or tested?! Possibly with Sammy out, he'll move into LM/LW if a new LB is signed?

Agree0 Disagree0

Hamilton, the more I think about your suggestion of Fofana on loan from City the more I think it might be a really shrewd shout. If we were to go out and use some of the Wanyama money I'd like a player of the same name, Gueida Fofana or Junior Malanda. But given who we've been linked with, Mudingayi/Loe, I'd rather give this lad a chance. If City do show an interest in Virgil, I'd ask for this lad + Lopes and even the cheek to ask for cash too.

Ed001, I like today's poll - football related yay!

I hope they do stop flirting and get him signed. We need a couple of players to improve the team this window.

Can we maybe have one tomorrow about Samaras - the opinion about are the Club right to let him go or should he stay?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I thought you might approve Mrs E, I did make a special effort for you to make it football related. I will add the Samaras question to the list and try and remember to use it tomorrow rather than when I get down that far!}

12 May 2014 00:24:13
A see celtic have told boerrigter's agent he's free to find another club so fingers crossed a half decent offer comes in and we can at least recoup maybe half what we paid (hopefully). Was excited when he signed thought he could have been a bit of european class we needed for the cl and we have been crying out for a natural left footed winger since alan thompson left even though I think izzy is more than capable steppin into left mid a actually think it would make him a better player. Just a shame it didn't work out for derk

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I know a lot of people don't like griffiths but wasnt/isnt he also a left winger

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed, do you know if any other clubs were interested in Boerrigter last summer when we signed him or were we the only mugs who wanted an injury prone dud from Ajax?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I don't know off hand of any other interested clubs.}

I think it is strange to call us mugs for signing Dirk, its easy in hindsight to say it hasn't worked out . As Ghunniebhoy says it looked as we had signed a good one . We had no guarantee that Virgil or Izzy would have turned out to be as good as they have turned out to be . All buying of new players is a gamble .

Agree0 Disagree0

Chris, there are over 300k professional football clubs in the world and we were the only ones sniffing about The Tampon, that says it all tbh. This season alone he's had 3 seperate injuries ruling him out about a month at a time, in 2011/12 he spend 6 months out injured from Christmas onwards. How the club were willing to blow! £2.2m on him, £1.5m on Balde and £2.2m on Pukki rather than £6m on Finnbogason will haunt me for years!

Lennon must go. Sooner the better. Simple

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Who do you suggest replaces him DN30? Surely it has to be a manager with good Euro experience.

Hail Hail

Agree0 Disagree0

I know, who does he think he is? Winning the league? Over a hundred goals? I'm so sick of this! He should be sacked immediately haha, na I agree we need a change. But with the amount of players leaving the club's in an uproar coming up to the cl qualifier. I'm just worried that changing the manager as well as all these players will leave us with no cl place.

Agree0 Disagree0

Timing has never been Celtic's forte; the club does need a jolt in every sense as we have underachieved in trophies and in the calibre of players signed, but with Celtic Park out of commission, we will be taking a gamble if major changes are afoot?
The terrific league run did produce some very good football - which was well overdue with the players and resources at our disposal compared to the rest of the SPL and we did win the title in style but we fell short in every other competition.

I thought Mjallby leaving was an indication that the management team would be dispersed and I am excited about the prospect of a new manager and especially a better quality of player being attracted to Celtic Park.
Therefore we have to appoint a man with a very good pedigree and reputation, not only to bring in class, but to improve the players we have.
A better CL/Euro campaign and Cup runs are imperative to keep ticket sales/attendances up and build moral and regain our domestic dominance.

If Neil Lennon does leave? I wish to thank him for all his efforts in bringing some success to the club and I am sure the highs and lows and huge expectations of a Celtic manager will stand him in good stead for any job.
He will also never have to put up with the sectarian garbage, assaults, threats and utter hatred he has endured during his time in Glasgow.
I have never known any previous Celtic manager that has suffered this atrocity and hope it never happens again - but I won't hold my breath.

Ed can you shine some light on the Samaras contract situation? Was he really not offered a deal as he is claiming?

{Ed007's Note - There has been no talks held for months, do you really think NL didn't know what was going on?}
