Yes, I realise they must have preffered to stay in the EPL...Yes, I realise Steve Bruces connection to the club was important...and Yes wages might have been a stumbling block....but please tell me that when 2 centre backs of the quality of O'Shea and Brown leave Man Utd for a million each, that we at least made an attempt to capture there signatures...
wes brown went for around a million although he was on between 50 and 60 k a week at utd but john o shea cost sunderland 5 million and on at least a similar wage. so for a start we cudnt have afforded the fee for o'shea, we cud have afforded browns fee but i doubt the guy wud have been willing to take a 30k a week drop in his wage which is understandable or came to play in a league were we have 4 competitive games a year.

pletikosa will not be signed until after the hibs game. the trial wont really begin until the squad are back from OZ so he will more likely play a part in the dublin cup and the swansea and cardiff games

Sadly, Have to agree with poster that it appears the days of the 'marquee' signings for both celtic and rangers have gone. Its a worry when players are rejecting the old firm for mid to bottom epl and championship teams. Surely it cant just be about the money? I think our reputation is now hit almost rock bottom, but I also blame the hibs and dundee utds who enter europe every year and fall at the first hurdle to part time fishermen. Care to comment guys?
You can't point fingers at the "diddy clubs" mate, our showing in Europe last season was a joke, lucky for Lenny it was early in his tenure. We've not helped the co-efficient at all recently.
I live down in England and can safely say that the SPL's reputation is as low as I've ever known down here right now. Last season's murky antics sure didn't help with that either. Players wanna play footie, not get drawn into the "Old Firm goldfish bowl" nonsense. Can't fault em at the minute, I never thought playing for Stoke (or whoever) would ever be better than playing for Celtic, but times change apparently.
Hoping this season will be a different story. We've gotta get some respect back to get the names to come back.

we both have signed one unknown player
we both keep looking at players we cant afford
we both keep losing out on transfers to mediocre championship clubs
and as for signing x players i think it can be a good thing after all take the likes of Miller he knows what's expected of him also if you guys had the chance to resign Barry Robson or the holy goaly you telling me you wouldn't jump at the chance lets be honest for once there are players each one of us would welcome back

also as for both of us looking at players we cant afford, celtic are capable of making a big signing every now and then. the players we are looking at are highly sought after players with top pedigree. the ones u cant afford are bottom of the barrell players, i.e. conway, even your younger players i.e. greg wylde is knocking back ur final contract offer, i can only imagine what u have offered him.
we have signed the likes of bellamy before, we afforded robbie keanes wage a year ago of 60k plus a week, naka was on 40, boruc was on 30, even donati was on 25. u offered that israeli guy 5 grand a week for gods sake, so ur comparisons arent exactly like for like. at least we are in the market for quality and if we cant afford bellamy we would at least tried to offer 40 maybe 45 grand a week of his wage which is probably more than the average premiership wage outside the big 4. we even offered jimmy bullard 45 grand a week a
last season but then he got greedy and wanted another 20 grand on top.
as for the barry robson been offered, i for one wudnt have him back as he was never good enough in the first place, gave 100% but was a headless chicken

Think the last we heard a decission would be made on Monday (yesterday) but so far nothing has been mentioned.

i have no idea what Whyte will pay for anyone m8 but i would rather 2 mill on Miller than Goodwullie as for the wages if he can link up with Jelavic and score as many goals this season as he did the previous half season then we will probably win the league and if thats was the case then 2 mil plus 25k per week would be well justified.
but due to the lack of finances this would only happen if we can get a few bosmans and loans in to make up squad numbers.

Transfer budgets only really exist in football manager.. there is a deal of flexibility in it, generally wont spend any more than 4 or 5 million tho

Fully agree, if Lenny's actually goin for McFadden then he's proper lost it. Much better options already at the club, Forrest, Commons, Maloney & lord knows how many youngsters get pushed further down the pecking order.

Still not convinced by Zaluska though, defo gonna keep an eye on this Pletikosa thing, he was awesome bout 3/4 yrs ago, can't have gone down hill that much and he's got yrs left in him, this could work out real well for us.

Timalloy you said last night to Tony why haven't you been on too embarrassed by the Rangers result. In all fairness its only a pre season game of course we would prefer to be taking a few goals off these teams but they are non competitive games. They have no bearing on the season at all. I would be worried if it was in the Champions League qualifier but I aint worried at all. Looking forward to the new season defending our title once again

Got to agree with you billybhoy, pre season games are rotten. I don't usually go to the home, pre season games anymore. You take the kids along, only for teams like Arsenal to play all their reserves, and everyone is left dissapointed. The only thing they are good for, is the away games, as they are an excellent excuse to get away for a good bevvy with your mates. Thats if you're allowed and have enough dosh, mind you

The season is near you need to worry as do we when it comes to being up to the pace of the game which is the point in pre season. Its not the fitness it was your defence being carved open at ease by a second rate german team thats the worry

Anyone else getting worried that the old firm just cant sign any players anymore? 2 months into the close season and both teams have only signed 1 player each for peanuts. (Although celtic will claim that they have signed 3, but really Mathews and Wilson were done last window). When will the rumour mungers on here realise that both teams have no money. Celtic need keeper and striker and again are dragging heels and rangers need a few players also. Sad times
