I cannot believe the confidence, bordering on arrogance, i see in some posts. let's face it, in my opinion, we are not certain to win this league. The cup is also up for grabs. What is the argument for the confidence, because i don't see it.

I will concede that we have been extraordinarily hit by injuries, creative players which always hurts, but other than flashes we don't look at it. As for our defending. we all see it.

Our big problem is other teams know how to play us, i posted that we give chances, and in some cases real gifts, they sit in and pass out. This team is also young, mistakes will be made. Never forget the usual amount of 'honest mistakes'as well.

All things considered we should be favourites, rightly so, but certainties? not for me. Is this why some sections of our support moan so quickly at every loose pass? They think it should be easy? Get last season outa your heads, a one off never to be forgotten season we were lucky enough to witness.

It will NEVER be repeated.

GJ I know the point your trying to make that people are being unrealistic and that's causing all the complaints. I think that although nothing is ever certain. When you loose two games in the space of two seasons and still when playing poor are winning that's showing the mark of champions. I do think people have been over critical but don't let the expectations drop. If we take a treble this season we have walked away again progressing on last year. Footballs a game based on merits. If BRs side walk away wirh European football after Xmas with (fingers crossed) a treble its been progress.

Agree1 Disagree2

12 Feb 2018 22:59:01
GJ the confidence comes because we have by far a better calibre of player than any other team in Scotland . Tell me if we're not going to win the title who Is? Our closest challengers Aberdeen couldn't get anywhere near winning it when we were rank rotten under Ronny and points wise they haven't improved since then. If you think we're not certain to win this league then go to the bookies and they"ll give you 66/ 1 on either Aberdeen or the Sevies, must be worth a couple of quid if you think there's a chance we won't win it.

Agree3 Disagree2

12 Feb 2018 23:24:15
Guys, im not saying we wont, im just saying we could. look at us two up and cruising until a gift arrives and other teams get energy and belief. I will concede to holding the team to account until we are full strength, Rogic and Paddy have been a real miss, but eight points? Two losses and two draws? Just saying we need to spark and quick.

Agree0 Disagree1

13 Feb 2018 00:09:08
This is he inverse of the Ronny Roar, a guy who couldn't manage but with a team that was far superior to the opposition, that even when playing poorly they still managed to win the league with points to spare, now we have Brendan, someone who is a manager, but the team has been disrupted by injuries and loss of form, and some, a combination of both, and we are still top of the league, the league is a certainty, the cup might be not so, but I think out of all the quarter finalists, The rangers are also rans, the zenit game is more important, I think, if Celtic turn up, they can win it in the first leg, and then the whole season takes on a new complection.

Agree2 Disagree1

13 Feb 2018 08:39:44
Gj even if we do lose a couple and draw a couple of games, your assuming that either the sheep or sevco will win all theirs, not going to happen in my opinion.

Agree2 Disagree1

13 Feb 2018 10:25:21
Steph, i don't think it will but a bad bounce an off day. mclean as a ref! who knows? Look at the amount of times we have players booked for a first tackle this might add up with three-four games to go.

@4leafclover I get it on paper if we win a treble this year that we have made progress with Europe after Christmas BUT there shouldn't be any doubt from fans that we are in actual fact behind last year.
1. We have dropped more points in the league.
2. We have received more defeats in Europe and heavy ones at that.
3. Our recruitment is definitely behind the previous year.

Sure there are reasons why we aren't as consistent this season but you cannot say we are progressing surely.

Agree2 Disagree1

13 Feb 2018 12:10:33
@GJ, the tone of your past few posts has surprised me, why so negative. Yes Celtic have not been as fluent as last year, but our injury list this season has been horrendous, that is not an excuse by the way, just another reason. Also Sevco, Hearts, Hibs and Aberdeen have added a bit more competition to the league, which we Celtic fans should welcome and see it as an opportunity to raise our game.
Once Griffiths, Rogic, Roberts, Armstrong all come back, and Dembele and Odsonne get more game time, added to Commper and young Hendry and also Ralston improving our defence we should be OK.

Good comments and some valid points to discuss, my take is like most, injuries, new players, loans signing, changes in formations to accomadate the team all this must have an impact on the dynamics of the team and playing style. With all that going on we are still Numero uno, the big cheese, el honchos. last season is gone, were on target this season. anything else is a brucey bonus. stroll on thursday and right team and right tactics and the fans at home we can do them. if not we had a good euro run in my eyes. hail hail.

What an inappropriate time to post your negative thoughts . The wee crowd on Saturday last were very vocal with groaning and abuse giving . That and negative posting doesn't encourage our team to play better.

Here is a wee story my mate's dad told me when I was sitting having a drink with them one night, many years ago. I have since verified that it is true and thought I would share it, just in case some of you did not know.

When Celtic first formed we did not wear the green and white hoops on our strips. Our very first strip was actually white with a green collar and only lasted a season until we changed to green and white stripes, which we kept for a number of years.

It was not until 1903 we started wearing the famous green and white hoops and have done so ever since.

So where did the green and white hoops come from?

Believe it or not, it actually comes from a junior team in Govan of all places. The team in question were St Anthony's, who we had an affinity with, as they were responsible for producing many players who went on to play for Celtic.

Apparently someone at Celtic took a liking to the strip whilst watching St Anthony's play and the rest is history as they say.

13 Feb 2018 00:14:14
Is like religion, if you believe in a creator or a god, to explain why we are all here, well who created the creator?, so where did st. Anthony's get their strip from?

Agree0 Disagree1

13 Feb 2018 19:02:16
What a ridiculous analogy comparing the origins of a football team's strip to a very profound metaphysical question, to which there is no definitive answer. Not only that it makes little difference where St Anthony's got the hoops, in relation to the Celtic related fact I posted.

May I ask why you felt the compulsion to even make this point? If it was to be a smart Alex, you failed miserably.

13 Feb 2018 23:08:00
Rodgers at work, you have to forgive Aindoh, he specialises in smart Alec type posts.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed033's Note - did St. Anthony's get their strip from the chicken or the egg?

14 Feb 2018 07:35:31
Normally would say egg but in this instance I'm going to say chicken as I can't envision an egg wearing a strip. :p.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - your Easters must have been really dull round your way if you never painted your eggs up in a footie strip! Or perhaps my Easters were really dull as the entertainment consisted of painting eggs when we were kids? Hardly a PS4 like but we had fun.}

14 Feb 2018 08:02:11
I do recall colouring hard boiled eggs and rolling them down hills but don't remember painting football strips on them. Must be a spouse thing.

Clutching at straws time.
One of my Tim pals said to me today that this cold weather in Scotland will unsettle Zenit and their players.
When I pointed out they were a RUSSIAN team and used to temps in the -20's and lower, he replied with a staight face "yes but they have been away for 3 weeks warm weather training and will HATE the cold"
I say LET IT SNOW lol.

I wouldn't change a thing. I think that's the strongest team we can put out. It'll also go toe to toe with the way Zenit set up. Jozo had a poor game against Partick, but he needs to go out and atone himself. He, like the rest of the team need to be made damn well aware that Europe is our frontier and they need to be able to stand up and be counted. I'd play Musonda also, that's why he came in and he'll be afforded a bit more time hopefully on this stage. Forrest will be kept busy with Criscito so Musonda could well end up being a bit of an outlet. I'd perhaps just ask a bit more discipline in Ncham's role, we'll need to keep an eye on Korkorin and Paredes down the middle linking up. We need to try and be a little bit more direct in their half whenever we think we can see half an opening, it's on our patch, I want to see us go for the jugular. Oh and bhoys don't make stupid backpasses.

It time Brendan shows he isn't blind to our defensive frailties and makes us hard to beat first, then we try and nick something. For me brown and nitcham don't protect a back four against good teams so pack out the defence and take a goalless draw at worst.

Agree0 Disagree1

12 Feb 2018 13:11:15
DeVries has to start no other option back four of Lustig KT Ajer and Jozo. Jozo hasn't become a donkey overnight and there's no way you can throw young Hendry in with Ajer. Far too inexperienced. Brown Ntcham and Forrest are stick ons. Sinclair on the left but he must turn up on Thursday. Not suggesting the lads not trying but there's others coming back from injury to take his place. Hopefully SS turns it on. I would have McGregor in front of the midfield for his work rate alone.

Games probably too soon for Stuart Armstrong and maybe not suited either for Musondas flashy tricks. Moussa or Edourd. probably just Moussa. Remember lads there will be a decent bench for back up and I think I read somewhere that a draw home or away earns enough points for us to be seeded at some stage in the qualifying rounds. Praying for a home no goals against win but a nil nil wouldn't be a disaster bhoys. Just my humble opinion ☘.

The management and players have a lot to work on in training to try and recapture some of the performances we put in last season. In a lot of games this year the tempo has been flat, the passing predictable and little creativity.

Where has the pressing we seen last year went? The energy, the pace, the relentless running?

We have done amazing to win the League Cup, be top of the league, still in Europe and QF of Scottish while playing poorly with the exception of 4 or 5 games.

Injuries have been an obvious strain but we still have a far stronger squad (with current injuries) than any team in Scotland.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

12 Feb 2018 11:30:23
I think that the amount of games we've played this season has affected the way we press teams. Liverpool play a high pressing game yet they have struggled to do it consistently.
I'm hoping that now we are getting to the business end of the season the players will get a new lease of life and we will return to the form of last season.
I also think that if we can get Rogic and Roberts fit and on form, that will be a massive boost for us.

Agree1 Disagree1

12 Feb 2018 11:38:40
Everyone talks about how much we miss Paddy and Rogic and of course we do but for me we miss Armstrong the most. His driving runs are missing and making our midfield static. I think Ntcham is great but he is good on the ball and will rarely run beyond the strikers. Anyone agree?

Agree3 Disagree1

12 Feb 2018 12:26:11
Defo Martyc. Just saying to my son the other day, that we've missed Armstrong. I feel he gives us more in terms of his runs getting in behind defences. Pretty good goal ratio also, and we've missed that. Hopefully he and the rest of the injured bhoys aren't too far away from coming back.

Agree1 Disagree1

12 Feb 2018 14:35:50
Although Armstrong had not been as good as he was last season, he was just hitting form, before his injury and we do not have a midfield player like him at present and - along with Rogic and Roberts - he will make a big difference when he returns.
Any news on his fitness?

Agree0 Disagree1

12 feb 2018 16:24:07
i agree, rogic and roberts in form will improve the team and style of play drastically. i've just been disappointed that, given the amount of quality we possess, that we have been so poor without them.

i said on here a couple weeks ago after the hearts game i thought armstrong would struggle to get back in the team as our midfield trio was excellent that night. i've changed my mind on that. ntcham is quality but still quite inconsistent. you's are right in saying armstrong's runs on and off the ball create space and good chances.

we have so much attacking talent but weak in defence. we need to find a formation that plays to our strengths. 3-4-1-2 or 3-4-3 would be my pick. i'd like to see our 3 attackers rotate during games, it would make it harder for the opposing defence.
