Great watch. The man could score any kind of goal. Never tire of watching his chip in the 6-2 Derby win. Then I'm back in reality and consider the pish poor offerings we have today. How far we have fallen. Never again will we see his like in the hoops. Sad🍀🍀😢

Myself and other gave Peter Lawwell and the Club a bit of a hard time about the charity side of things last weekend but I'll give credit where it's due and I was delighted to see today's news that Celtic will take part in the ECA's charity initiative and that 1 Euro from each match ticket from the Celtic v Fenerbahce on Thursday, October 1st will go towards helping the current refugee crisis.
Once again the club has stepped up to the plate when asked and more importantly they are mirroring the intentions of our fantastic support towards worthwhile charities and causes.
So let's kill two birds with one stone and get CP filled to the rafter for the Fenerbahce match to support the team and make sure 60,000 Euros is being sent to the fund from our club, and our support who know the true meaning of the word charity.

The anniversary of Jock Steins passing had me reflect on where we are as a club.
May 2017 will be the 50th anniversary of the greatest achievement in our clubs history.
I think the club.Board, Management, Players and Supporters.should have the goal of being in the Champions League Group Stages in 2017 so we can properly celebrate our biggest success.
That means playing in and advancing from the Group Stages in 2017.
Backing up from that, that means qualifying to the CL July/August 2016.
The Board, with that objective should provide the necessary budget to make that happen.
The manager should be held accountable to achieve that goal. anything less is failure and they should go.
Put it in perspective, there are only two transfer windows ( Jan and summer 2016 ) to get the right quality players in to achieve that goal.
If we all agree that's our goal, what's the plan and wheres the budget?
If we can't or won't step up to that goal I think its time for a change in the people that run our great club.

I agree with you, It would be great to be in the Groups for our 50th European Cup anniversary and quite poignant in Jock Steins memory.

But some folk are just not admitting what is in front of them and burying their head in the sand, including the manager, we have the players to get us to the CL Groups but Ronny is simply not playing them and is playing guys who won't get us there as they have proven these last two seasons, Ronny is pandering to the dressing room playing guys who aren't good enough and can't play the brand of football that Ronny wants effectively enough which is why they are failing in his system, Ronny needs to start getting ruthless or these players will cost him his job.

The likes of Mulgrew, Stokes, GMS, Brown, Armstrong, Griffiths, Johansen and Cifcti will not take us into the CL Group Stages. Until these changes are made we won't get there again next season. As I don't see this happening in less than a year as Ronny is not brave enough, we are sadly regressing and will continue with the same core of players sadly, or worse we'll be losing Bitton soon and then we'll really be in trouble(Lets hope the reports about him wanting to stay are accurate).

A team for me which would get us to CL Groups would be something like.

-----------------------Gordon----------------------

--Janko-------Lustig---------Jozo---------Izzy/New LB--

--------------Bitton---------Rogic---------------------

----New RW-------------New CAM--------------New LW------

-----------------------New ST--------------------------

This team would get us there, this squad would still be open to guys like Forrest, McGregor, Ambrose, Allan, Christie, Commons, Fisher, Bailly, Tierney, Nesbitt competing to be a part of it in addition to the changes in the four attacking positions.

Ronny must start getting ruthless and eradicating the players who can't play his system and are getting us nowhere as a club as I've listed, these players I've listed will not see us progress and help us to CL football, it's time for Ronny to weed them out if he wants to keep his job. If he relies on these players again next season imo we won't qualify and that will be the end of Ronny for me at Celtic.

We could of done it this year if we didn't bottle it and the less said the better. Celticforever- Out of your non contribution players you listed i'd take gms through to Griffiths and at a push johansen who as a player I really struggle to appreciate but I think i'm looking for his mistakes in games now and I've been given plenty this season. The second tier of suggested gap fillers in the new 1st 11 quoted in my eyes fall into three groups. Past it, not good enough or unproven.
I'd like to see that team play as long as there was a clever 14m + or better wages chucked at it to fill in the positions. That isn't going to happen.

Think your living in cloud cuckoo land ,celticimnever, big jock used the players he had available ,brought out the best in the less talented,by boosting their confidence, making them feel part of the team, cajoling the more talented keeping them on side, playing to their strenghts using their weaknesses against the opposition rather than against thenselves, buying a few key players in positions, not because the positions were that weak but because the players he targeted were exceptional, like willie wallace, joe mcbride and bertie, you seem to be one of these people who think you can just go out and buy success, why don't you change your handle to LVG,as for Ronnie,i am fast losing confidence in his managerial abilities, maybe he was lucky at Stromgodset like BR was lucky having suarez at liverpool

Putting this bet up 24 hours before game kicks off.
Atletico v Barcelona
Messi to score and Barca win 3/1
Barca penalty 6/1, Atletico 6/1
Barcelona MISS penalty 28/1
Ordering Off 11/8
I started with these penalty bets last season in Barca games and it was surprising how many times it came up (only Sevco seem to be awarded more penalties by referees, for the life of me I cannot understand why lol)

Just read an article with Ronny there basically suggesting that we won't be signing Tyler Blackett permanently after his loan deal expires at the end of the season, going by his quotes Ronny said "He's a very good player who has been very good in training. "You can see why Manchester United want him - he is at a big club - and sometimes you have to make loan deals when you can get good players like him". Deila hopes that in the future Celtic can attract players of the quality of Blackett on permanent deals. "It's positive for Celtic and also for him. So I'm happy with that deal and hopefully in the future we can buy players like that."

See to be honest I'm getting a big peeved at these sort of deals which leaves us right back at square one again similar to Denayer when there loan ends. Unless they're someone truly exceptional on loan(which if he was I'm sure Manchester United wouldn't have loaned him out)or we've definitely got an option to buy and the player is playing for a contract then I'm not a major fan of these deals.

I don't rate Izzy that highly but he is not anywhere NEAR as bad as has been made out with a lot of our support and he is certainly competent enough domestically. I'm going to feel a bit sorry for Izzy because I think Ronny has treated him harshly at times, I mean dropping him for Mulgrew at LB against Malmo was a joke and an absolute insult to Izzy tbh and I said as much before the game against Malmo had kicked off after I seen Ronny had dropped Izzy for Mulgrew.

Looks like Izzy is going to get dropped for a player who has no interest in being here next season just to further his development for Manchester United or his next English move which really peeves me off when we have Izzy who is competent enough currently and is on a perm contract with a couple years left on it(Btw I realise we need another LB but don't think this Blackett deal is right as it just seems a stop-gap, although I do also realise competition for Izzy is vital). But to see both Izzy and Ambrose(Whom I would play ahead of Boyata at CB)drop to the bench saddens me slightly which I think is what is about to happen. Both of them dropped for a player who it looks like won't be here next year anyway going by Ronny and even the players quotes and also a player in Boyata who hardly played for Man City and we can see the reasons why, has just scored two own goals in two games and looks like a REAL bombscare in comparison to the much unfairly maligned Ambrose.

All in all feel a bit sorry for Izzy and Ambrose.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I said at the time when people were banging on about the price of an option to buy on Blackett that it didn't matter what it was we wouldn't be signing him next summer.
I've said for years on here that I'm against loaning players we have no intention or possibility of signing, why are we helping to develop other teams players rather than our own?}

11 Sep 2015 14:05:44
Because ours obviously aren't good enough. When was the last time a truly exceptional youngster came through?

That's the problem. Scotland us producing mediocre players lacking in technical ability. Athletes maybe, class players not.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - You'll never know how good a player will be until you see him in proper matches though. Some great youngsters become average and some average youngsters will kick on when they get a chance but if they're not given the chance then we'll never know.
Would James McCarthy, McArthur, Andy Robertson, GMS, Stuart Armstrong etc etc became the players they have sitting in CFC reserves or youth teams for years?}

Its alarming the amount of posts calling for Deilas head. I think some people think the grass will be greener without him, which is their opinion. Reality is if he goes, who will replace him? Cause I guarantee you, it will be a cheap option and crucially same problems will still exist. Just a different scapegoat to shoulder the blame.

The real problem is Peter Lawwell and his ineffective running of club. Sick of talking about John Park and how much he is out his depth. Lawwell takes far too many gambles in the hope players bought, will turn a profit. A handful of players like wanyama etc have worked out well, to cover up losses on the vast amount being dud losses.

He's got one more year to get it right, huge season in his career this year. He's had the players at his disposal or he should have anyway to dispose of Maribor and Malmo of the last two seasons. For example Bitton ahead of Mulgrew, Griffiths ahead of Stokes and Denayer ahead of Ambrose last season against Maribor would have seen us through I'm pretty sure of that. He got that wrong, this year we came up against a much better side than Maribor imo but still our budget blows Malmos out the water, he knew how Malmos manager would play being a Norwiegan compratiot and playing against him in Norway with Stromsgodset and still couldn't outwit him. It's last chance saloon for me I'm afraid but he does deserve another season just as Lenny was given time to reach CL Groups.

Ronny needs to start getting ruthless with some players and dropping them when they need dropped for example Johansen, Mulgrew should never play in a Ronny team as he can't play the system the way Ronny wants and folk know my personal feelings on Brown. Ronny needs to start getting ruthless shunning these players from his team just as he has with Stokes. If not then these players will cost him his job imo.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Sep 2015 18:39:23
Either bring back Lenny or I wouldn't be opposed to Roy Keane becoming manager, there's something about him that I think would get the players playing. Plus he doesn't strike me as the type of manager to have his favourites and play them every week despite their form, if he thinks they're playing poorly he'll drop them no matter who they are even if it's the captain. This is the part in which Ronny is failing in for me. Only thing is Roy Keane may be a bit too intimidating and I don't know if that would allow the players to play freely under him.

Another thing I meant to add about Ronny, he's now had to rely on us selling players we purchased under Lenny in Forster(£10M) and Van Dijk(£13M) being sold for big money, could even add Tony Watt(£1.2M) and Adam Matthews(£2M) to that as well to make up some of the short fall for us not making the CL, the next big money players look to be Bitton and Johansen(although I don't believe Johansen will ever get sold for decent money, just seems to be a few others have mentioned it). Point is, I've yet to see a player brought in under Ronny that we're hopeful of progressing and possibly making a bit of a money off of in the future when moving them on. Ronny can't keep relying on players who weren't brought in under his tenure making up for his failures in CL Qualification, next year will be his last chance imo.

Folk might say it's nothing to do with Ronny the players that's been brought in during his time here but I beg to differ, it's no coincidence imo that there's been a sudden increase in Scottish domestic league 'talent' arriving since Ronny's arrival(Cifcti, Armstrong, GMS, Christie and Allan), we never done this under Lenny or it was rare, Stokes and Mulgrew is all I can recall and Mulgrew was a free agent, those two players aren't exactly inspiring for future use of the leagues 'talents' either let's be honest.

I don't see ANY of those players bringing us in future big transfer fees tbh and most of those are Ronny's choices imo, just don't see it. I also don't see Boyata bringing us in any money either, I'll have to reserve judgement on Janko and Jozo Simunovic. I know folk might say why is it all about selling our best players, the key is they have to be good players to get sold for big money, if they are average or mediocre players which I feel quite a few in our squad are then no one will be interested in paying money for them therefore leaving them on our books and us in general being a poor squad. If teams want a lot of your players then 9/10 your a decent side. After Bitton I'm currently struggling to think of players other teams will be interested in and players whom I feel will not be able to progress us to being able to qualify for the CL Group Stages.

DN there are plenty of managers who can do a job for us. Just because we can't name them off the top of our heads doesn't ,mean they aren't out there. Look at that mob across the road we had never heard of the bread man till recently but it shows us a manager can transform a team with a little bit of nous and a decent knowledge of players at the level required.
The problem for me RD doesn't know the level required. THAT has nothing to do with PL or JP since u can't stop talking about them lol.

Have to say that talking with other fans I believe Ronny`s honeymoon period is coming to an end, true he has not had the backing he should have had from the board but you have to believe he has had some input into the players brought in.I do appreciate he is a relatively inexperienced manager but surely after a full year his ideas should be starting to bear fruit, but what really disturbs me most is his seemingly inability to change when things are not going to plan, all good managers have a plan b and the great ones a plan c also.Apart from 20 mins in the first game verses malmo the team have gone backwards.I believe the next month or so will have a hugh bearing on our season it's time for Ronny to show that the faith placed in him was not misplaced he has to get it right more than wrong, the wrong ones as I see it,mulgrew at full back, playing. Forrest, picking ciftci when available ahead of griffiths,Armstrong as a left winger ok I don`t have knowledge what's happening behind the scenes but I just can not work out some of Ronny"s decisions, our what the big picture is.Now I am not suggesting this is the case but I would like to here other posters thinking on this question,is it possible Ronny and the other coaches have lost part of the dressing room as I do not see the team playing as one unit. The next month will go along way to answering the question.

I read the Viking boss a friend of Deilas said he watched the 2 games over Malmo and said he couldn't see the style of play Ronnie had brought to Stromsgodset and that he didn't think that style of play would have worked with a Scottish club. A lot of people are giving Deila stick over us exiting but don't people think that's more down to the players and not RD?

Believable1 Unbelievable2

11 Sep 2015 08:23:42
I feel a degree of sympathy certainly. RD has his hands tied in terms of quality being brought in, and I certainly think we're lacking a few positions for the style he's going for. Not picking all the targets can't help either. Also we haven't been able to shift many players, those perhaps who aren't taking things on? He has coaches he probably wouldn't have wanted too. And yes, ultimately, a performance comes down to the players. And the harsh reality is that in knockout football one performance can make you what you are. Over the course of 6 CL group games we may well have done better than Malmo will.

That said he seriously needs to create a plan B. And some big decisions have baffled me.

Like our team though he's young and learning.

Agree4 Disagree1

11 Sep 2015 13:04:57
I'm not sure if it's down to the manager or the coaching staff, but it looks to me as if when we play teams outside our own league that the players seem to lack a bit of self belief.
Malmo was the latest example, in that in the home leg we could have won the tie there and then, but at 2-0 and 3-1 up, it looked to me as if they couldn't believe the position they were in and became timid, they seemed to want to hold what they had rather than finish them off.
It looked to me that in the away leg, that we had no belief at all, and we may as well not bothered turning up.
We can talk about tactics and fitness till we are blue in the face, but the players have to believe we are better than the opposition, we do against Scottish teams, but when we go outside our comfort zone our confidence seems to become non existent.

Jim all the signings are defo his. They are under his tenure so the responsibility is on him and no other. There is just no way that the players have been brought in without his consent, surely the plan would be that PL and JP would got to RD and say we have a chance of this player what do u think? He says no I don't want him, and they get him anyway. No chance, How could the board buy into his methods and ideas yet not back him with players of his choice.Thats just plain crazy. No manager worth his salt would put up with that.
Every manager under the sun says he hasn't been backed financially, I sure there are plenty of managers in EPL saying I was only given 50m to spend instead of 100m.
I know posters have mentioned CG wasn't his signing as he was in before him. NOT TRUE we were in negotiations with CG while we were getting RD and CG was not signed till RD was manager so we can only assume RD had the final say.

I personally believe the majority of the players from the Scottish sides are Ronnys', it can't be coincidence that Ronny has suddenly came in and we've just signed 5 players from the Scottish league. We barely signed anyone under Lenny from the Scottish league bar Watt and Stokes, with Mulgrew being a free agent and that was over Lenny's years here. Only Watt for me is a decent player out those three and was a bit of a gem if truth be told, just attitude got the better of him.

Anyway point is I feel the three Dundee Utd lads are all his and imo going down this route is only going to make us a weaker side so Ronny needs to take reponsibility for this imo, I also believe Boyata is a Ronny signing due to his Man City connections and he's another player I've been far from impressed by.
