I was on holiday in Turkey for the first 2 of their group games and even then they were unbearable. If you were on the streets of Benidorm tonight bet you wouldnae feel sorry for them. Just watched the England game, wow what did the Croats have in their half time tea, And had a thought. We might be watching gerrards sevco.

By that i mean he came through the English system, all overseen by Southgate, and seems to favour taller type players. More or less defensively tight speed on the break, and look for set plays.

Easily countered in my opinion.

I had a wee chuckle to myself regarding some of the comments being attributed to Sevco fans commenting on our ongoing commitment to sign McGinn from Hibs.
Morally shameful. Derisory. Unsettling are some of the words they are using.
Laughable. What we have is two clubs going about their business in a professional manner. Hibs want the best deal possible for their player. Celtic also want the best deal for their club and are negotiating for a price they feel comfortable in paying. Two clubs acting in a reasonable and upfront way. The way that transfer negotiations should be done.
Compare that over the years to when Rangers did their business and now the tribute act. I think the fans of those clubs should be mindful of their record in negotiations with other Scottish clubs and wind their necks in when commenting on other clubs.

Believable5 Unbelievable2

{Ed007's Note - And McGinn won't be given a side contract or letter that will leave him bankrupt from a tax bill in years to come.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Marka Pjaca suffered an anterior cruciate ligament away at the beginning of last year and when he returned in January he went to Schalke on loan. Juventus are keen to move him this summer and are trying to drum up interest.}

I am really excited about the new season. We have a team going into their third year together as a team. Yes I know some players have been there longer but as a management and group it takes time to come together.
This is the first time in memory that we have begun a difficult CL qualify with an away win and looking comfortable in defence. With Mcginn and a cover LB I would be happy however I am greedy and would love to get Scott Mckenna. Yes I know that people will claim he is not good enough but you tell me another young left sided dominaiting CH who we can afford.

Good point re away win but this was an expected win. If we don’t beat Alashkert type teams we don’t deserve to be in CL.

We should now have a discussion on Jack Hendry's mistake last night . Lucky for Jack and us that are supporters we had the ever vigilant keeper C Gordon alert to the trouble and he saved comfortably .
I want the discussion to be held now, and not turning into abuse on Jack by carrying on to Christmas or beyond . In fact a mistake by Efe was recently highlighted here by a memory man, 5/ 6 seasons after Ambrose may have made a mistake .
So discuss Jack's lapse, get it out of your system so that Jack and us can continue .
I thought Jack had a very good game last night, apart from that one mistake .

Believable0 Unbelievable1

11 Jul 2018 16:33:23
Other than that i thought he done well, brought us out a few times, and should learn from it.

Agree1 Disagree0

11 Jul 2018 17:02:49
The lad Ajer being the youngest looks the most experienced. We have a good enough squad to dominate domestically but against quality opposition the Defence will need to buck up their ideas. Surely with Mcgrain and Toure coaching they will improve.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2018 17:27:47
He only did what Boyata did against the huns twice, what ever other defender does - has a lapse.

I think he needs time, games to see progress. He looks average from the games I’ve seen. Steady enough and capable at Scottish league level.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2018 17:49:43
The bhoy is the weakest link in defence no getting away from it . but he is still young and learning . but he must learn from it unlike big efe who was prone to lapses of concentration all through his Celtic career . also if Hendry (or any other) keeps doing stuff like that they should be getting discussed no matter when.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2018 18:27:11
He’s young and a bit inexperienced, but no point getting on his back. At the end of the day we signed him from Dundee, he may have shone there but to do it for us consistently is a bit tougher. We have to expect it when we sign lads from other Scottish sides, I can’t think of any recently where they came in and improved us straight away . They all need a bit of time, I’d hazard a guess it will be the same with Mcginn when he comes. A bad game for Hibs / Dundee is not quite the same as having one for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2018 19:37:15
There is no reason this lad will come good . It's some difference playing for a club like Celtic and the expectations, than playing for Dundee .
We can help him to step up, or we can destroy him by blowing his confidence away expecting a £20m performance every game he plays . Those performances may come but probably not this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2018 22:43:07
Other than that mistake he played well. Not afraid of a tackle or putting his head in where it hurts. No bad amount of pace. Think he will grow into a decent centre half for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2018 15:11:28

11 Jul 2018 17:55:41
You are either a moron, sevconut or both. Going by what you said you want Celtic to pay even more than they are offering for a player you believe to be not good enough. Where is the logic in that?

If you were a Celtic fan and wanted the best for the club you would either want to offer less money or you wouldn't want him at all.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2018 18:44:13
Good shout raw some of the posts on here lately are just nonsense they'll be eating there words when young mcginn is ripping it up when the season starts.

Morning Ed, wondering if you know the latest re. McGinn? wasn't a fan of him before, but he would do a job for us. Thx.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Everything's in place except an agreement with Hibs, McGinn's agent has agreed terms with Celtic and once the fee's agreed it should be finalised pretty
quickly.
With regards to Scott Allan joining Hibs as part of any deal for McGinn, Hibs want Allan and he wants to return there but his current wages are a bit of problem for Hibs. It could be that once McGinn is signed Celtic will pay off the last year of Allan's contract freeing him to sign up at Easter Road.}

11 Jul 2018 14:21:00
That's good news Ed.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2018 18:35:57
Forgive my ignorance of player negotiations but could we not just pay the difference to Scott Allan for the year left on his contract i. e if he's on 9k a week at Celtic and Hibs offer him 4K could we not pay him the 5k difference till June 2019, SA doesn't appear to have a future at Celtic but Hibs clearly rate/ want him so that surely strengthens our hands in the negotiations.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - They could do that, Man Utd subsidised Rooney's Everton wages and they are in turn subsidising his DC United wages.}

11 Jul 2018 13:18:59
Don't agree with being held to ransom. As fgj says, hibs are potentially risking a decent fee!

Believable0 Unbelievable1

11 Jul 2018 13:59:38
2 million is far too much fir a guy that played decent in a couple of games

Let him stay at Hibs and get him for what he’s worth next year - training compensation

In the meantime get players signed that will improve us i. Europe if that’s even possible.

Agree1 Disagree0

11 Jul 2018 15:49:49
I wouldn't think that all Celtic's time and efforts in our transfer dealings are all spent on McGinn. I am sure Celtic are trying to get in other players and their transfers will come through whether McGinns's comes through or not . Its times like this Lawwell proves his worth .

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2018 12:26:19
As much as i like Forster, i'm happy with CG and Bain! CGs distribution is woeful but he has saved our arses a lot imo.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

11 Jul 2018 12:49:14
Brendan, CGs distribution is like Hazzards compared to Forsters, a great shot stopper Forster is but BR would never have him. Hail Hail.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2018 13:39:10
The amount of times Gordon has kicked the ball out for a throw in trying to loop the ball into the full back is frightening. Immediately giving opponents a throw in our half.

As much as he does make the odd unbelievable save, the amount of poor goals he has let in, as well sprinting out of his box questionably outweighs that. We all say we want better CB’s but where’s the point when we have a keeper who let's in soft goals. If we played in Europe every week more fans would say GK is a priority but he’s hardly tested domestically.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2018 15:55:43
To be honest, I have never been frightened by Gordon kicking the ball out for a throw-in to the opposition . If we cannot defend a throw-in we have a great problem .
My worry about a goalkeeper is when, he fiddles around with the ball at his feet and then panics and clears either direct to a striker or puts a defender on severe pressure.

Agree0 Disagree1

11 Jul 2018 12:17:39

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2018 11:10:00
Looks likely that Fraser Forster is headed for the exit door at Southampton after becoming 3rd choice GK.

I think it would be great business if we could bring him back to Parkhead. He would easily be our number 1 choice, he has loads of experience and is 30 which, for a GK, means he has still has years left in him. I reckon we would get him on the cheap as well.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

11 Jul 2018 11:14:46
But can he ping passes out from the back? Lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2018 11:27:56
Not a huge fan of bringing back players who chose to leave. However I’d be excited about this, anything to get Gordon out the goal.

Can’t see it though, I imagine another prem team will take a punt on him. And nobody at Celtic seems to identify GK as a weak spot😕.

Agree1 Disagree0

11 Jul 2018 12:25:29
Kevbhoy, Gordon was terrible with the ball at his feet before Rodgers came in but he's progressed and got better at it.

Forster is an all round better GK imo, and could fulfil that position for next 4/ 5 years.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2018 13:11:53
There’s a reason he’s 3rd choice now he’s over rated and like Gordon jumps down the way I’d still rather have CG and that says it all as I’m not his biggest fan.

Agree1 Disagree0

11 Jul 2018 15:59:35
There is a reason why Forrester is third choice for Southampton and that doesn't give me much hope that he could be first choice with us .
I think if he had stayed with us he would still be rated in the top 3/ 4 English goalkeepers .

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2018 09:57:09
So that’s a pretty good Belgian team out. They have a lot of really good individuals who just didn’t click on the night. I personally think that Lukaku (Look-a-coo) is seriously over rated.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

11 Jul 2018 10:46:40
Said as much in previous rounds as I think he is is clumsy, cumbersome and not instinctive enough. I know, on his day he can score some great goals, but those days are not frequent enough and if Belgium had a Griezmann or Mbappe they could have been champions.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2018 11:30:34
I think you're being harsh. He tore the Brazil defence apart and has scored more goals in this WC than both of those two. Dembele looks quite clumsy when running with the ball as well at times but he bangs the goals in.

Agree0 Disagree2

11 Jul 2018 10:57:57
He will be a revelation and will mature into a much better player than Armstrong and he gives us even more variety in midfield.
At present, with Broony, McGregor, Ntcham, Christie, Rogic (when he returns) , Eboue, Sinclair, Forrest, Morgan and probably McGinn on his way, plus Bitton and Hayes possibly in contention - all we need is Paddy Roberts back in the Hoops and 'here we go '? in-a-row.

Agree0 Disagree2

11 Jul 2018 16:04:32
Had we not got Paddy Roberts last season and all he did was draw a wage . Morgan is different to probably all our attacking players . He has fantastic speed and if our players can create a little room for him, I think he will do serious damage.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jul 2018 08:20:02
And were back. Good display in blisteringly hot conditions so early in the season, no, scrub that, very good display. Even allowing for the fact they did not seem to have much, two or three players with nice touches, this could have been sticky given they have been at it for weeks.

Really interesting thing for me was the change of shape two three or times and the freshness of the players. Morgan looks like a kid ready to grab any chance with both hands, French Eddy took his goal, a lot harder than it looked, really well and Oli covered nearly every blade of grass. Jamesy looked up for it, he will need to be with Morgan here, and overall a good job.

Some slackness/ lack of concentration could have been punished, but for a first competitive game in searing heat that will do nicely. It also gives us a chance to freshen the team up at Celtic Park.

If we start right with a big crowd behind us i think this team will fold.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

11 Jul 2018 09:39:24
Spot on mate. I’m thinking the same about Morgan I think he’s going to surprise a few people, he can play on either side so both Forrest and Sinclair need to be on their game.

Good result and means we can offer game time to anybody who needs the minutes next week.
