Dissapointed but not surprised with the wanyama outcome . First time poster here . long time admirer of gj, mrs e, Shammy, monti, Sopocelt and fourgreenfields to name but a few. Ed do you think this team will gel intime to get through the qualifiers.MY punctuation, spelling and speed of typing hold me back from taking part, anyhoo just thought I 'd say how much enjoyment the posts and responces give me. {Ed007's Note - Don't let your spelling or that stop you from posting, as long as we know what you are meaning it will be fine. It's not an English O' Level test mate so feel free to post away and welcome to the site. I am confident that we will get through the qualifiers, the only stumbling block could be in the Play-Off Round.}

Don't be daft mate, none of us (with the exception of the Ed if he's not on the bottle) can spell on here, just blame your computers spellchecker or iPads auto text. that's what the rest if us do. HH joe

Spelling, grammar and punctuation don't matter, and I takes as long as it takes, one thing, if you are coming on again tell us nice people what your name is. shammy

Ed do you know if we have indeed got a sell-on clause in the Wanyama deal to Saints? Also, when do we have to register our squad for next weeks game?

LM67 {Ed007's Note - I don't know anything about Wanyama's contract yet. The squad List A for the CL qualifiers must be registered by 00.00 CET tonight.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So we are unlikely to buy any new players before then. Hope our injury list shortens considerably before next week. I certainly don't fancy heading into a Champions League qualifier, whoever the opposition, with Kayal and Rogic in the middle of the park!

Evening all, I'm a bit saddened that big vic has left us now.
The big man was one of the best players iv seen in the hoops and will be the best dm in the world in a few years. Thanks for your service vic was great to have you at cp. I really hope we do buy a replacement because when broonys not playing our midfield will be missing that grit do you think we will get one ed?

ed, ghuys + ghirls . the £12m quid is money for nothing
how would you spend it . 2 times 6m, 3 times 4m, 4 times 3m .??? . or would you just buy john park an open ticket on world airways and tell him to come back with another 12 wanyamas . shammy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Shammy I wish it was my money to spend, i'd give 12m a right good go!

Celtic will be looking for another 12 Wanyama's, that's a dead cert. ~ Mrs E

Agree0 Disagree0

The deal stinks IMO . I feel Celtic have been touting Wanyama since Xmas and NL had no say in the matter . I honestly thought after the last 2 years in Europe we were starting to build a stronger and better team and you could actually see the improvement but the sale of Wanyama is a major setback which I hope will be quickly rectified . That's why IMO the money we have made should be given to the manager to re strengthen the team . Or do the powers above really have the same ambition that we the supporters have for our great club . DH

Agree0 Disagree0

@DH: We have done well here mate.Victor wanted the EPL, we had no choice but to sell him.Hooper will be the same. On the cash, we need to invest but also be wary.If we do not reach the groups it will be a big dent in our financials. green jhedi {Ed007's Note - Wanyama has only been gone a matter of hours and already I am fearful that there is a distinct possibility of CFC fans are going to turn him into our version of Gattuso, and we all know how quickly that became boring.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Dark forces at work in CP. Surely not. But why should we be immune from the FOD which stalk football. Sopotcelt.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hooper wants the epl, but I thought Victor was happy at cp, his agent wanted the epl for his cut of the transfer, I have a bad feeling about the qualifying rounds, hope we get through them now, (my glass is always half empty).

Agree0 Disagree0

@ED007: Good point.I think a lot of us are looking through the green tinted eye wear.I loved big Vic, but he's gone and we made fantastic money from the deal.Who knows Efie maybe slip in seamlessly, a young player may grab the chance, who knows.

The point is we got a result.Every player seems to want the EPL.Money seems to be the motivation and we cannot compete with that.We are in a good place.It's the same story with the cash.We cannot just splash it around because we have it.We have our business plan, it's working, so let's stick to it. green jhedi {Ed007's Note - I'm a bit of a cold-hearted realist GJ. Wanyama was a great player for us and I hope he goes on and has a great career, but that's it, he's gone. What's the next piece of business...and get on with it.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with you on the point ED that he's gone let's get on with it . As I said in an earlier post that I'm getting bored with the Hooper situation . Take £5million, replace him and get on with it . But I do think GJ we should spend a bit of cash to replace Wanyama because Ambrose and Kayal are not the answer . Maybe I'll be proved wrong but if by some chance we don't qualify for the CL who will take the rap . Lawell?, Desmond?, NL . DH

Agree0 Disagree0

@DH:I agree we should be spending but not silly money, that equals silly wages sadly. As you rightly point out Ambrose and Kayal may not step in. I think the only hint we are getting from pre season is Lenny looks like favouring a three at the back.If this is the case it makes the holding midfield job a lot easier. I don't take much notice of pre season games but tomorrow we need a decent show. I would expect kayal to be the holder so let's see how he does. green jhedi

Agree0 Disagree0

Attracting good quality players to Celtic is always tough
Got to say if big Vics done anything for us it may be the old "stepping stone", "shop window" stuff means we can get a lot more genuinely talented 19 year old to sign for us.
May be more valuable than the 12.5million.

Agree0 Disagree0

Come on bhoys some of us are never happy. Celtic is in great shape, we operate in one of the worst, mismanaged and poor leagues about and we can get 12.5m for 900k! It's a hard job punching above your weight all the time. Credit where credits due. HH joe

tv announce news the they are being pursued for talent development money like celtic are from Beerschot for Wanyama. Beerschot went out of business like sky's pursuer Rangers who are looking for cash for presenter Neil McCann if successful a question of sport fear they will be asked for a cut of the transfer from Sally McCoist. A elderly spokesman for Sevco said that if businesses like Beerschot can go out of business and their new club can ask for a slice of a transfer fee then why can't Rangers.

Just on this wanyama deal ed I think it's great to get the 12 mill for him no doubt he was a machine in the middle of the park but I am a big admirer of kayal before he got injured he was tipped to leave us he was quality I think he could replace wanyama what u think? {Ed007's Note - I thought Kayal was a great player up until he got injured and then started picking up niggly injuries and never looked fit, or even comfortable on the park. Now it's looking like he has finally fully recovered, I think he deserves a chance to prove his quality again, it could be a make or break season for him though, if he fails next season I think it will be time for him to move on next summer.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree. For me kayal was a stand out and really looked the part. Remember Juarez? Another I thought had all the attributes to make a name for himself. After the party scandal he just seemed to vanish.green jhedi

Agree0 Disagree0

I hate to say it but I think Kayal will not refind his form. More I also think Izzy will be the same. We will persist with them and they will cost us big time. As I say I hate to say this but apart from the odd good game with Izzy last season these two have been poor and have nothing to offer for the future at Celtic. Kayal was hatcheted so we know all know the brute responsible. Izzy well they say it was a fair tackle but the Aberdeen boy was never making that ball. Its a huge pity Izzy particularly is a great guy but that's football. I hope I am wrong but this is based on their recent form and injuries that so far at least have ruined their very promising careers at Celtic. Sopotcelt.

Agree0 Disagree0

I wonder if NL has noticed what the rest of us have? Kayal and Izzy were more than physically injured after those 'tackles' and I agree they should go with our thanks rather than have both @ 70% or so for the rest of their contracts

Hi Ed, would love to see Celtic throw a £1m bid in for Mackay Steven of Dundee with the Wanyama transfer cash. Him and Forrest would be lethal. What do you think.?
AL1888

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think he'd be a good addition

Agree0 Disagree0

I am obviously a Rangers fan but I'm a football fan first and foremost and I watch any games that are on TV, including Celtic.

I am yet to see James Forrest play a good game. I just don't see what he brings to your team.

Do all CFC fans rate him highly?

GRD

Agree0 Disagree0

Here's my honest answer:- In his first season he was a sensation using his pace and was a real goal threat.
This led to International recognition and an extended run in the first team
Personally I felt there was a lot of pressure/expectation put on him too early and when he did have the odd bad game his head dropped or he flung his arms into the air when he lost possession or never got a decision and his confidence took a knock. He has since picked up a couple of lengthy injuries and this has been a set-back to his progress.
Recently he has gone missing in a couple of big games and is a bit
like Samaras, in that he is a confidence player and needs a good run to get the momentum back.
My opinion, you may get others?

Jungle Jim

Agree0 Disagree0

Nah was good then was injury prone. Still only one footed personally if a offer came in for him I would knock it back give him another 18 month with no injuries. Needs to up his game.

Lenny

Agree0 Disagree0

It depends what you mean by rate him?

He's a product of the Celtic youth system and one of the best young players in Scotland who has been capped at every level. I would say Celtic will definitely get a right good few for him if he was sold this window and more than you would get for Johnny Russell or Gary MacKay-Steven etc. This might be due to him being a Celtic player or having more International and European experience than most his age in Scotland.

This is his season to really prove himself and hopefully he can stay injury free.

I will never forgive this assault on him by a Rangers player and the yellow card, should have been red! It was only after this he started to go over a lot easier and thrown his arms in the air.

Come on, bringing Rangers into it! You are usually one of the better ones on here! Are you saying Rangers are to blame for the stall in Forrest's development?

GRD

Agree0 Disagree0

GRD, I just feel his confidence took a knock after than tackle. I'm not particularly bringing Rangers into it as its Rangers, I would be the same with any player from any Club making a tackle like that on a young player just beginning to see his career take off.

So the msm this morning have revolution threatened within the Celtic family, quoting 3 disgrunted fans, one of which is screaming for the sacking of NL.

Also on the agenda is the carving up of the 12.5 m expected for wanyama by 3 other clubs before Celtic get a penny .

Wonder if there is a clause in that deal stating that all outstanding leckie bills have to be paid out of a directors pocket before the deal can go through . TTTS

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Have to say I found it shocking the levels the press have stooped to regarding this deal. This is obviously manufactured to remove the spotlight on sevco.

Not one reporter asked why, a few months after the IPO, they could not pay an electricity bill? . green jhedi

Agree0 Disagree0

Over one week on and not a single bottle merchant in the press has questioned Jabbas rant about " the day of reckoning coming " to those who ever did a nasty thing against Oldco / Newco . DH

Agree0 Disagree0

Jabba already made that threat months before the day of reckoning threat. Also a few months ago Mathers stated the same in the press. It's a round and round idea in their little circle. A tame blog master has probably given them IP addresses of honest Internet critics like us. {Ed007's Note - OK OK it was me! I passed on all your details to Craig Whyte so expect Jabba and The Slug to be round to raid your fridges. You'll know when they've been, there will be a Puma sign imprinted on the butter.}

Agree0 Disagree0

When is the SFA going to grow a pair of balls. That lot lie threaten and cheat yet the SFA bend over backwards to help them. NL swears and he is hauled across the coals.

Ed as for the Puma logo I thought it would have been a pool of slavering Pash that we would have to look out for as that is what comes from there mouth constantly.

I'm glad that servco bought that new bus. It's serving them well during their Staycation pre season in the UK. They also managed to field two teams against their recent opponents. So they now have 22 players at least. The amounts of money bring spent here is suspicious more that they are saving from driving the bus round the highlands. Any thoughts on how and why they are being able to spend while skint

Well done to Celtic on getting such a massive profit for Victor Wanyama. I'm not a fan but have said for years I like how your club operate in the transfer market. You know your place now and so you identify young players who can play but who also have potential to get even better and you develop them and sell them for large profit. So all credit to Lennon and his team for that, excellent work.

I do feel a lot of Celtic fans vastly overrate Wanyama though. Yes he is a great talent and has potential to get better, but he isn't and will never be "world class" as some have suggested, imo anyway. I feel he has struggled for consistency during most of his time at Celtic and with him being 22 now he really needs to push on and add that consistency to his game as he is not a kid anymore.

People are asking "he is a world class talent so why aren't the big teams coming in for him?"

Could the reason be that they also see that he just isn't quite on that level? I think Southampton is about right for him.

I know he is giving up a guaranteed chance of CL football for the next few years at least til Rangers are back challening you lot, but Southampton are a much better side than Celtic, they are sitting with a bit of money behind them and a young manager looking to build a good team there. He will also be playing with and against better players week in, week out. So it's a good move for him overall. I think they will challenge for a Europa League spot next season if they add a bit more depth to their squad.

All the best to you next year at home and abroad.

GRD

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree with your VW points I've echoed them myself often. What I do take umbrage at is the point we know our place. Disparaging to say the least. I suspect that you know your place is in division 2 and that if servco come back to SPL they are in no financial state to compete with celtic in their rightful place as the too team in Scotland with the potential to be a very big EPL club once PL opens up that door for us. Only a matter if time. I saw a post yesterday about financially sound celtic buying up servco maybe we should out then to bed and use it as a car park for our larger crowds

Agree0 Disagree0

GRD, a couple of points.
Firstly, there is no such thing as a "guaranteed chance". You have either a guarantee of something or you have a chance of it. You can't have both. For example, Celtic are guaranteed Champions League football this season, with or without Victor Wanyama, even if it has to start at the qualifying stages. Southampton on the other hand have neither a guarantee NOR a chance of Champions League football this season even if they had 11 Victor Wanyama's or Lionel Messi's in their squad. To push that point a little further for clarity: next season, the 2014/15 season, Celtic are pretty much guaranteed ANOTHER crack at Champions League football while Southampton haven't got even a remote chance of Champions League football even with 11 Neymar's in the team.
Secondly, Southampton are not a better team or a better club than Celtic. They are "successful by association", which means that they suddenly have a ton of money purely because they are in the English Premier League. Stenhousemuir or Fleetwood Town would be as successful, as good or as big as Southampton if they had the same money.
And finally, we wish Big Vic well wherever he goes. He has been a great servant over the last couple of seasons for us and we have cashed in very successfully on him. He may go and play in the Premier League but he will never again experience the passion and joy that comes with playing for a club as magnificent and mighty as our beloved Glasgow Celtic.

Hail Hail
ChrisBhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

" Stenhousemuir or Fleetwood Town would be as successful, as good or as big as Southampton if they had the same money."

Ludicrous statement to make ChrisBhoy. Do they average over 20,000 in league 1 like we did? no. Have they produced players like Gareth Bale, Wayne Bridge, Oxlade Chamberline, Theo Walcott, Nathan Dyer, Alan Shearer, Matt Le Tiss, Adam Lallana, Luke Shaw and others in the past 25 years? NO

It is clear to me that fans in Scotland watch the prem and know a lot about it but only know the squads of the top 4 or 6. They don't pay attention to the 'smaller' clubs and what they are trying to achieve. Probably because the top 6 is all tv and report about so it isn't surprising but real football fanatics should know that we are rapidly progressing and now we are in the Premiership we can hold on to the Gareth Bales we produce for a bit longer. eg Shaw to sign a 5 year deal tomorrow. Watch our games next season you will see we play excellent football with a young talented squad.

Regards Saints fan

Agree0 Disagree0

@1

This comment was not meant in a disparaging way at all. It is a compliment. I'm sure Lennon and Lawell would be the first to admit that they know their place within the transfer market. I don't understand why you had to bring Rangers in to it, but there you go, it seems certain fans of CFC can't have a conversation without doing so. As for the point about the PL, I don't think it will ever happen I'm afraid. They certainly will not take Celtic without Rangers. If you think otherwise then you are clutching at straws and being a bit delusional.

@ Chris

I take your points on board and I agree to an extent. What I meant by a guaranteed chance was that Celtic are guaranteed to be in the CL qualifiers for at least the next 3-4 years I would imagine, until Rangers find their feet again and are able to compete with Celtic on the pitch. So to me, Celtic have a guaranteed chance to attempt CL qualification. The reason I put it like that is because I don't view the qualifiers as CL proper, and I don't imagine any footballers worth their salt do either. At the end of the day, you can't say "I have played CL football" if you get knocked out in the qualifiers, Everton in 2005 being an example. Maybe not the best wording but I'm sure folk know where I am coming from. I agree Southampton aren't as big as Celtic, never will be. But I have to disagree when you say they aren't a better team Chris. I think Southampton are far superior on the pitch to Celtic personally.

Hope that clears it up!

GRD

Agree0 Disagree0

GRD

Whether Southampton are a better team on the pitch than Celtic is debatable. Maybe one day we can meet in Europe and find out. But what are the chances of that happening? We know we'll be there but can your club say the same?
My reference to Stenhousemuir or Fleetwood Town is technically accurate. Any team who had that amount of money playing in that league would have a chance to be at least as successful as Southampton. Your club has done well to get to the Premier League but your history of success and stability is not a patch on Celtic's achievements. Everyone outside of your own supporters remembers your club for 2 things: Matt Le Tissier and an FA Cup victory many years ago. Apart from that there is no history of substance so to imply that your current 'purple patch' is the norm is quite wrong.
And even though you might not view qualifiers as Champions League it is correct to say that they are in fact Champions League games. I do agree though that it ain't a patch on the group stages. Did you see us playing Barcelona, Spartak Moscow and Benfica last season? When was the last time Southampton mingled in such illustrious company?
We wish you guys well and we hope Vic fits in well and has a positive contribution to offer to your club's aims but your optimism should perhaps be kept in check until your club have shown some consistency, not just for a season or two but for an extended period. There are many clubs who can reach the Premier League and become one or two season wonders but many eventually find their true level back in the lower leagues. Southampton is still in that honeymoon period and Fleetwood Town might one day be a real name on your fixture list.

Hail Hail
ChrisBhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Your reference to Stenhousemuir or Fleetwood Town is technically complete an utter dribble. We have history, fan base, stadium, academy, they couldn't do it with money as no decent player would go to them. I don't recall anyone saying our purple patch is normal? plus we finished 2nd in the 80's and signed european footballer of the year kevin keegan so this kind of stuff has happened before! but even more extreme

Agree0 Disagree0

Yous going to give it a rest with this my clubs bigger than your club patter? Footballs no longer about history it's about Money & Southampton have much more of it. Sugar coat it all you want Chrissy boy use will never win the Champions League & neither will Southampton doesn't matter theyl be watching multi million pound players compete in the greatest league in the world & use will be selling Amido Balde to one of they wee English Prem teams with a bid way under your personal Valuations in a year or 2. That's IF he's a success. Why have Southampton not won the premier league one word Competition. Why do Celtic & Rangers have so many titles? Answers on a postcard please.

Agree0 Disagree0

ChrisBhoy-you should really find something out re. Saints. Their funding is not because of the EPL, how did we fund our way out of L1 and the Championship? If you knew something about the clubs finances you would not start to look foolish.
And to be honest, we could be consistent in the SPL with our League 1 team, so don't claim it is such an achievement.

GRD

Agree0 Disagree0

@ 6, 7, 8 and 9.
If you stop and think about what I'm saying you will realise I am correct. Anybody could do what Southampton have done if they were in the PL and with their money. Full stop. Southampton are unlikely to remain a Premier League team for the next 5 seasons. That's a simple fact. Yes they're all gung ho at the moment with their tails up but let's wait and see how they perform. As for our success in the SPL? We can only beat teams who play us. We'd love to be in the EPL and if we were we'd be a helluva lot better at it than South - bloody-hampton (who are they anyway! lol). Isn't that the team who bought Ali DIa, the cousin of George Weah who had hardly kicked a ball in his life? lol Aren't they also the team with players involved in betting scams and scandals? Maybe that's how you moved through the leagues! lol And to sum it all up and top it all off, you had Souness as manager. Enough said folks! lol
Good luck to Vic and I hope you guys will give him tremendous support. He'll probably be the difference between your team staying up or being consigned to the lower leagues. for now anyway! lol

Hail Hail
ChrisBhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with ChrisBhoy, Money can buy you a stadium, An academy and of course multi million pound players. Money would then attract the best youngsters until you've pulled together a good scouting team (again, the best scouts could be brought in for big money) and said Academy would begin to thrive. This is all common sense. Money however can't buy you history!

So for Southamptons FA cup win in 1976, Football league division 3 title in 1959/60, Football league trophy triumph in 2010 and the glorious signing of ex world player of the year Kevin Keegan in 1980.

Celtic have the greatest achievement in scottish sporting history the European cup triumph in 1967 to look back on aswell as
44 Scottish League titles
36 Scottish cups (a world record) and
14 League cups

Got to 2 other major European finals aswell.

If your talking about the stature of the two clubs it isn't even a contest.

Your average attendances in the 4 seasons before last was between 17-21k. Last season in the EPL it was 30k

Celtics was nearer 52k between 2008 and 2011 and then 44k last year. Miles apart.

Being in the Premier League is all Southampton have to brag about, if you go down (and I really hope not, as I have a soft spot for the Saints) then no one outside of British football would be interested in you or know who you are. Harsh but true.

Got to laugh at a few of the skelpers from the dark side on here backing this ridiculous Southampton are as big as Celtic patter. The outrageous thing is if you tried telling them Southampton were bigger than The Rangers you would get an astonished reply and reference to a world record breaking history that doesn't even belong to the team they support now. Fantasists.

Aside from your delusions of grandeur Saints fans, congratulations on signing a great player who's a great lad with a good head on his shoulders who will go on to be a great signing. See you in 18 months or so when your writing us a big fat cheque for the sell-on fee when you get 20 million plus for him.

Stevensee88

Agree0 Disagree0

Stevensee88. thank you for confirming that I am not delusional or a mentalist. Actually I am both of those things but thanks anyway for your support! lol
I just can't stand by and say nothing when someone from a world renowned and trophy-laden club like Southampton starts piping in about their superiority over an institution like the mighty Celtic. I have nothing personal against them at all and I hope Vic brings them further glory, I truthfully do.

I have never said we southampton are bigger than celtic or have more trophys but basically you have 1967 trophy and the rest is just 2 teams battling for them (Barr fergies Aberdeen). England very different. You will be eating your 'relegation battle' words next season. I think we will finish 10-7th playing very attractive football. You are clearly are ill informed on our squad if you think we are going to be in a relegation battle.

The owner of the team that got beat 67-0 said before the game he didn't want it played as he suspected foul play. He has since disbanded the team and offered his full assistance to the Police investigation. A shrewd move to keep himself out of jail.

I think the most shocking bit of world football news has to be the murder of the young referee in Brazil after he stabbed a player who tried to give him a hiding. The mob then Willy Wallace on him and cut his arms, legs and head off. Were some rather disturbing pictures around google. Not for the faint hearted.
