Seen plenty worse centre halfs than boyata! We’ve got 5 on the books at the moment and he’s by far the best. Wednesday and today showed how much we need him. Bullied by opposition strikers and a complete lack of communication and leadership at the back.

Believable0 Unbelievable4

11 Aug 2018 23:47:11
We’ve been screaming out for a right good centre half since VVD left. Boyata is possibly the best of a bad bunch with the exception but ajer, ajer will improve with experience and someone solid playing beside him. Jozo clearly isn’t fancied, hendry for me right now won’t cut it in Europe wether it’s champions league or Europa and comper is non existent, is that guy even still in the country? So when u look at it that way then it’s quite easy to say boyata possibly is the best out those 5 however by the sounds of it he’s wanting out so get rid and move on. Surely to god we’ve a list of centre half’s that could’ve been targeted and we’d have pocketed £9 million or more on a guy that even your most die hardened on Celtic fans couldn’t have thought that fee for him was even possible.

Simonovic is a better ch than that rat boyata. He just needs more game time and mind on the pitch.

12 aug 2018 23:15:46
lm67, because we have a defence just now that is struggling does not mean that boyata is a good defender. get rid now! btw i'm not saying everything is rosy. far from it.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Aug 2018 23:16:07
Can't believe the cheek of boyatas agent Stoating into Lennoxtown demanding a meeting with Rodgers. These agents have some balls on them. Boyata ( in my opinion) is one of the worst centre backs I've seen in a Celtic jersey and I still can't believe Fulham offered between £9/ 12 million for this guy. we're the fools for knocking that back, he's no even worth a third of that kind of money. If boyata is in a huff due to us knocking that bid back and isn't interested in playing then punt him to one of these clubs from abroad that are supposedly interested in him, if they don't match the £9/ 12 million Fulham offed is pap him right in tae the reserves and he can see out his contract playing reserve football for the next 12 months. I've said to my mates for years now this guy struts about the park as if he's maldini, the guys a calamity for most parts.

Don't even bother with holding out for 9. Punt at first opportunity.
Don't want him affecting the harmony of the squad.

If Celtic had sold Boyata to Fulham for £9m after taking Dembele off then for £500k surly criminal proceedings would have taken place.

Criminal if it's true we turned down £9m especially with what his agent is now saying. Get him out asap.

Boyata threatening not to play and leave for nothing, punt him.

You can't not pay him. He has a contract and don't talk about him breaking that. It does not work like that. You can't make him play.

What a week that was. Very easy to get angry and annoyed when we are so used to getting things our own way in recent times with all our success. Looking back maybe only good can come of all the nonsense that has happened this last week. Yes last season we won the treble again but like BR has said on many occassions we have to improve, that is something we should be doing anyway, improving every window from a position of strength. It's pretty clear some players are just not up to the expectations of wearing a Celtic shirt, while others are coming to the end of their careers. Missing out on targets and losing today is just the kick up the butt we need to sort things out over the next week or 2. One thing is obvious this Board have to act and they have to back BR who has done his bit, as have the fans again. The season tickets were bought, the merchandise was bought, Champions League cash, Player sales cash, New Balance and Dafabet cash, Really an endless supply of cash coming into the club therefore there is no reason why BR should not be given substantial amounts to strengthen. I'm sick to death of hearing fans and the Board say but look what happenned to Rangers, Martin O'Neill was given huge amounts of cash to spend on players and wages, did we go to the wall? No. An excuse used to keep this model we use. BR has earned the opportunity to do the same as O'Neill. If not is this model we currently use working? If not is it time to ask for change within the Board? All these questions will be asked if the Manager is not backed in the remaining weeks of the transfer window. We now go into Tuesdays game after a week of turmoil not helped today by a sh#t stirring agent. Anyone wanting out of our great club let them go, get rid asap. The players that do want to be here let's get right behind them because they will turn this around. New additions will lift everyone, The Manager, Players and fans. When everyone is united it does not matter what other clubs do. It was only a few weeks ago we were playing beautiful football, hopefully Moussa is available for Tuesday and we put in a performance like Anderlecht. KTF.

Think todays result could be a good thing as surely the board will see we need to strengthen.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Welcome aboard mate and thank you. I don't think the board will be in any doubt that we need to strengthen.}

11 Aug 2018 21:30:51
Today’s team was definitely picked with Tuesday in mind but also should have highlighted that we next strength in depth to compete in 4 competitions.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Aug 2018 21:32:50
It’s a disappointing formula that our board seem to
wait for results like this to get their finger out, (yet to be confirmed yet off course) I detest the dice throwing gambling tenquike the board seem to rely on to decide transfer commitments in the latter last minute transfer stages like this situation.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Aug 2018 19:23:53
please calm down everyone, we lost. Every team does! 2nd game of season, BR WILL NOT GO. 8 In a row here we go!

Believable4 Unbelievable1

11 Aug 2018 20:25:33
We don't have a divine right to win every game. We have only lost a few league games under BR in his time here. Yes transfer activity is being highlited especially when the Main Man is saying the balls in your court PL!2 CL qualifications accomplished.3 season ticket sales thru the roof. New lucrative sponsorship deals worth multi-millions. I would put the Hotel and Museum projects off for a few years and invest in quality additions. Mr Chairman& Board members are yous looking and listening?

Very hard to watch today, sinclair was sharp, EK wasn't, although i do think there's a good player there. Frustrating long balls from cb's and gk, griff is 5'8 or something, ball to feet, he'll never be a target man, KTF.

I'd love to see Kouassi kick on but he needs a run of games for that and I can't see that happening unfortunately
Maybe a loan move to another SPL side would help like it did Ajer.

Few pass marks but thought Sinclair looked more like himself.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

11 Aug 2018 18:43:10
Considering his lack of experience and game time I actually was impressed wi Kouassi yes he made a few mistakes but for a 20yr old he was always willing and showing for the ball. He seems to have that crossfield ball in his locker too which I think we lack with too many sideways passes this Bhoy will come good.

Agree3 Disagree2

11 Aug 2018 19:49:42
Completely disagree Welshy thought Kouassi was a shambles. Did any of his cross field passes stay in the forks of play? Way out of his depth. Felt much more comfortable when McGregor dropped in there.

11 Aug 2018 21:30:35
The pitch was a disgrace to be honest. You seen the players struggling to run with the ball and it bobbling like crazy.

However, we need to find a way to overcome that as I suspect we will see more of it because teams know they can't beat us at playing football.

Agree1 Disagree0

11 Aug 2018 22:28:35
Welshy I agree. I really think there is a player there. He always tries to keep calm and play with the head up. The problem is he gets drop in to the team for one game then not seen again for ages. He can't get up to speed that way.

Agree0 Disagree2

12 Aug 2018 01:06:10
Tyncastle is a midden, the fans are far too close to the players for my liking.
Their game plan worked a treat, bombarding us with airial balls.

I so wanted Kouassi to play well but he looked like a junior player at best.

I bet DD doesn't gamble with his business dealings the way he does with our beloved teams signings!

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 23:19:58
welshy me and you are good muckers mate, but behave yourself, he was absolutely rank rotten, the only guy who done anything today was Tierney as per usual, the manager has to take the blame with his baffling selection today, we were playing against a mob who were going to put it about, the big guns should have been on from the start, this game was our priority not AEK.

Today was a complete shambles. 3 million for kouassi. anyone who thinks he is gd enuff is kidding themselves on or are deluded.
Time to get the finger out. The board need to back the manager ASAP or he will get fed up and be off.
We made changes today and were shown up that the replacements are no gd enuff end of. Time for new blood to freshen the team/ squad up. We r weaker than last season and that's no gd enuff.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

11 Aug 2018 17:28:42
He was replacing Ntcham today and that’s not really his play style.

I think he needs an Ntcham type player beside him and especially with hearts pressing so high it was difficult for him.

Give him a chance I’m sure he’ll come good.

Agree1 Disagree0

11 Aug 2018 18:06:31
Kouassi and hendry? Never celtic quality . Am I the only one who sees what's going on as similar to the o'neil situation? . Ppl who are slating dd? It was him how changed things after the semi n got us Brendan. Can't see him sitting back and allowing us to self destruct from within . A think a sit down is needed and a back him or lose him scenario will play out . Only our board can prevent 8, 9 or 10! Let's hope they don't!

Agree1 Disagree0

11 Aug 2018 18:21:34
Kouassi is never going to make the grade at our club imo. I’ve yet to see him have a good game. Passing and decision making are awful. Doesn’t offer anything positive if you ask me. Slightly worrying that BR said he would be Browns long term replacement.

Agree1 Disagree1

11 Aug 2018 18:47:14
Kouasse is real deal but like most others needs games. When played in his favoured position he stands out. He just doesn't get a proper chance imo as Brown always plays.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Aug 2018 19:53:41
A never seen the game today but by all accounts I never missed much. Chinks of course we can score 2 over there, Athens never impressed me much on Wednesday they were well organised and hard to break down if we're on our game we can score against anyone. Win on Tuesday and we'll get a lift from that, we also need a decent signing to energise the team and I'm confident it'll happen.

I love my life here. Despite all reports, there’s talk of ultimatums with the board, I don’t work that way, my communication is very open, so that’s certainly not the case.

"And I’d read somewhere else about walking away.

"I’ve got three years left on my contract here and I love every day of my life at Celtic.

"All I want is for us to improve every aspect of the club. It’s a disappointing result for us. We’d a good performance in midweek and drew, but you move on in football very quickly. "

Brendan Rodgers today.

11 Aug 2018 16:13:07
Kev I was genuinely concerned we’d lost him but your post cheered me up massively. But we’ll still need to disagree on John McGinn which I think was a massive mistake especially when you see our over reliance on Broon today the one key player Rodgers couldn’t drop as there is nobody to fill his position. I agree he isn’t Broon YET but is 8 years younger and for me has the potential and as I said was the only player that won a midfield battle with Broon last season. But what’s done is done and what’s won is won and what’s lost it’s lost and gone forever as the song says. Anyway good man for cheering me up! 👍.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Aug 2018 16:37:20
I was positive too jfp but today looks like doing in my coupom so get rodgers sacked.

Agree1 Disagree0

11 Aug 2018 15:08:43
I love Rodgers but I blame him for that performance. He basically told the team they are not good enough for the next level and it took its toll. That was a gutless and half hearted performance from start to finish. Simo, Hendry, Kouassi, Hayes, Griff and Sinclair were the worst culprits for me. I'm beginning to worry about the situation with Rodgers. His interview lacked the passion and energy you want after a defeat like that.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

If we sell Boyata and don't reinvest Peter Lawwel and Dermot Desmond have a lot of explaining to do.

Agree0 Disagree1

11 Aug 2018 15:48:51
Thought Hendry was better than the others you named Marty. also none of those six you mention are now first team picks so essentially a second string team . and yes rodgers was at fault but you must see why he choose that team . Thought calmac had quiet game today which didn't help.

Agree1 Disagree0

11 Aug 2018 16:18:55
Hear what you are saying DRB but I want 10IAR more than anything and going there is one of our hardest games so would have played a full team. We are now heading out to Athens under a cloud. How have things unraveled so quickly this week after a positive pre season?

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Aug 2018 16:34:45
The annoying thing is Marty. Lawell and the board in general have everything off the park spot on . but always shoot themselves in the foot and handcuff/ hamstring the manager in their dealings with playing staff.

Agree1 Disagree0

11 Aug 2018 16:44:59
Because the media are spinning it that way mate.

Yeah that was a poor performance but if anything it shows how seriously Rodgers is taking Tuesday that he’s willing to sacrifice 3 points today.

We aren’t going to win every game, it comes after a pretty poor week but we could still be make the CL and win a treble. Changes nothing.

Side note: look forward to seeing whether there’s any retrospective action on Naismith after his numerous kick attempts on Hayes. Although I think the SFA have dug themselves into a hole by reducing Morelos’ red to a yellow for a kick.

Agree1 Disagree0

11 Aug 2018 18:14:00
BOTH CBs Are no way good enough I can't understand why people think Hendry is any good for me he would struggle to get on the bench for Servco Maybe in 2 years time he will be okay but for now I wouldn't have him even on the bench Kuassi a football player REALLY?

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Aug 2018 14:51:32
There's not much to be said about that performance today but I think it does show us and hopefully the deal makers at Celtic who is up for the job and who is surplus to requirements. The list is long unfortunately in my opinion.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

11 Aug 2018 15:10:25
Couldn’t agree more lawman. We have too many fringe players that just aren’t up to the task, Hayes ( granted had a big injury last season but when plays just doesn’t look like the guy that played for Aberdeen. Allan, why he’s still at Celtic god only knows, Christie comes back from Aberdeen and struggles to make the squad, kouassi been here 2 years now and shows nothing when he does get a cameo appearance, the list of dead wood we have is ridiculous and it’s never more evident than when we make 4/ 5 changes in the line up and that could be against any opposition, and as for comper, does anyone know what this guy looks like or even if he’s still in the country? What a waste of money that guys been.

Agree3 Disagree0

11 Aug 2018 15:25:13
Hayes was great at a club with no expectations almost forgot we had him.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Aug 2018 16:34:50
Maybe Allan would have made a better contribution today, than some of those playing, he keeps getting condemned on here, but hasn't had a chance to show what he can do in a competitive game, so far this season, after playing well for Hibs last year.

Agree1 Disagree0

11 Aug 2018 14:50:28
Tried to stay positive this week and although we have only lost one real game since close-season, it's pretty obvious we have a few issues and hurdles to overcome early doors - not to mention the negativity about transfers.
The team today - unfortunately not good enough to match a predictably aggressive and hard shower that were psyched up as usual and were lucky to keep 11 men.
Hayes, Eboue and Simunovic were very poor today and although Hendry made a few errors, he put in a shift. Sinclair and Griff have struggled to regain their best form for months and although it can be argued that game-time may be an excuse for a couple, if the manager thinks you're fit and ready - then sorry, no excuses.
We did rest half a team with Tuesday in mind and this could be the gamble of the season; either edging towards the CL group stage or turfed out into the Thursday Cup with the negativity, criticism and deflation and STILL in August.
The managers mood and frustration has clearly impacted on the team and support and whatever happens this coming week, we can see how much the team needs quality added, but even more importantly, we need to be bluntly honest about how many of the current squad really need a 'new challenge' and free up some funds and hoops jerseys for better more able replacements.

Was waiting on teams to finalise my bets, now got them on.
Lafferty yellow card 11/ 10
Naismith booking 2/ 1 (both ex sevconians almost a shoe in for a card)
Berra booking 9/ 4
I also think Brown will be targeted his odds are 2/ 1 for a yellow and big
Simonovic is 9/ 4 sadly I think he is also a shoe in for a card
Penalty is 11/ 4
Ordering Off 3/ 1
A tough game and they will come out kicking but confident Celtic will overcome all the doom and gloom and send our great supporters home happy.

I would need to see proof. I’ve heard the stories, we all have, but I think it’s a bit like Santa, if I’m honest. We kinda know it’s all made up but pretend it’s real.

Magicpole I remember Charlie Tully scoring from a corner against Falkirk at brockville twice, had to retake the first one and did it again with the retake that was in the early fifties. If you mean with a header, Boyata at Ibrox in the 5-1 game . oldkilly.

So boyata want's a move and his agent isn't happy is this the same player that couldn't get a sniff before Brendan came in and resurrected his carreer. And of course the papers are gobbling this tripe up just one negative story after another.

We are creating the stories. The press are just reporting on them, with glee obviously but let’s be clear, it’s all of our own making. If we had a replacement in he would abe been away to Fulham. Could cost us even more money. He will be off next week. That’s a cert.

I would gladly sell him for the fee quoted and get somewhere better in.

Staggering that it’s got to the point that boyata is dictating to us! The guy never has or never will be good enough for us! If we knocked back 9 million for this guy that’s unbelievable if true! Take the money and get him to f**k! U cannot tell me we can’t reinvest that money on a decent centre half!

Just want to wish Brendan and the Bhoys all the best today. There have been some way over the top comments on here last few days in my opinion and some very relevant concerns. However we should all take note. The coverage being given to our draw in Europe and the managers comments have been given more airtime than our success at winning two trebles back to back. We will do well to remember that negative news or concerns and disappointing results will always receive this type of attention as they a desperate for us to fail. I am confident we will as a support rally together as will the people who lead this great club and continue to dominate. Times are good and won't last forever so let's just enjoy it. Our team is strong and yes other teams will improve as they should. This only raises the level of the game in our country which will have a knock on effect. We still have 3 clubs fighting for European football and have the best standard of managers working in our league in a long time. Let's face the challenge head on and enjoy the ride. Chin up doubters keep the faith and welcome the chase, just try not to go overboard when we lose one game or have a disappointing result as they will surely come. Just take time to remember how far we have come and what we have achieved. Let's continue by putting a marker down beginning with Levien and Co today. Hail hail.

Expecting a few changes and hoping Griffiths starts alongside Edouard. Always a great place to go and get 3 points. After a few crazy days it would be nice to go out and annihilate this lot.

The grass will be upto our ankles. They will try and kick us off the park. Need to go and win this. Boyata won't kick a ball for us this season. Take the money and buy a replacement as we are still thin at the back and today I hope jozo gets a game. We are a much better team now need to show it. 3-1 the hoops.

So, swinecastle. Last night i watched the game, and in my opinion if we play as we did midweek we will win. I actually thought, as i did at the time, we played pretty well most of the time. Eddy is not a striker as such, and was missing the instinct to get into the box for fast balls across the six yard line. We were also pretty unlucky with deflections and numbers in the box, nothing seemed to fall our way.

Whilst giving a nod to midweek, this is maybe as important a domestic game as we have had since ibrokes 2-3.It might sound ridiculous, but, in the second league game, some are scenting blood. This game will not affect the league as such, but it will affect the attitude of every one of the other teams. And maybe some of our own.

We will face the usual stunning and modern game levein favours, namely whack it up to havin a laff or some other giant and play the second ball. Every pass they make will have air on it as we know the score with the grass and watering trick. But really we should combat this as we know it's coming. This is a good test for the back line, maybe even a good game to try out a shape for Greece?

Bottom line is we need to win, and with a bit of style preferably, because the media are just waiting to heap the pressure on. You can almost taste it you know, bleeding out the airwaves and off the pages, it is palpable. This team will go down in the history of our club, and indeed football in this country. The trophy winning run WILL end sometime.

These players have been questioned domestically before, and they have answered accordingly every time. Big games need big players to show up. Big mouths need us to shut them up. So go and do it.

Could someone tell me what standard of player and price they think we should be attracting to Celtic and Scottish football. IMO realistically there is slight room for improvement in a couple of positions that would be quite costly to obtain. There is a limit to the standard of player that can be attracted to Scottish football and the standard we currently have in most positions IMO is as good as we can attract to Scotland. Some on here mentioning TRIFC are closing the gap, of course they are, it would be difficult not to considering how bad they've been, but if they want to close the gap fully they are going to have to spend a helluva lot more. Again IMO it's very difficult to get players that are going to improve us to come to Scotland. I think some of the support don't realise how good a side we are, to win a double treble in any country is a great feat and with qualifying for CL groups and finishing 3rd last season puts us up with 24 best clubs in Europe. Not bad when you think of the hundreds of top flight clubs there are in Europe.

I think our biggest hindrance to bringing in top players is our wage cap which is around 25K-30k.

Stevie. The Manager wanted to sign McGinn, he was well within our price range yet they let him go to Villa.
It's not about what a player costs, it's about backing the manager if he wants a player who is well within our price range.

Gerry spot on. don't matter who on here wants or does not wsnt a player. When BR wants him then that's the end of it. Disappointed not that we did not get McGinn but at the issues it has caused. Great teams back the manager. Rangers will push us harder this season. Watched the Maribor game and they were decent. If we turn them over 4 times again this season its Rangers who will fold like a pack of cards so let's dominate on and off the pitch.

gerryc I read an article in one of the newspapers around 10 ago that said Leeann Dempster and another board member wanted to accept Celtics offer for McGinn but Petrie said no he didn’t want him to go to us. I may be wrong here but I’m led to believe Petrie and Lawwell don’t get on so there could be some truth in why he didn’t accept our offer. oldkilly.

Spot on Stevie, unreal the hysteria because we drew a game! Love the way things are on and off the park, the club is run the way it should be. This is how it feels to be Celtic!
