Would you buy him.

12 Aug 2016 11:30:47
It's his last year. So unless we let him go on a free, few 100k or a year loan then yes sparky, 2017. With everyone fit he must be down to 6/ 7th pick maybe lower if ajer or one of the youth team gets the nod. If we can get him moved on we need to do it. Don't know what he is earning but it must be at least 15k?

12 Aug 2016 22:14:43
On the brightside we've got guys like Tierney and Rogic tied down on contracts so need to just take the rough with the smooth.

12 Aug 2016 01:34:12
my guess would be if they did sell him theyour would want nearly 10 million.

Agree0 Disagree1

12 Aug 2016 06:42:16
I agree that they would want a bit of money for him but Pep has come in and brought in a few new wingers which puts him further down the pecking order.

It would be worth testing the waters now rather than letting him tear it up for a full season and giving others teams a chance to come in and beat us to him at the end of the season.

Agree2 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 08:43:20
Can't see wee Roberts getting near the first team at Man City, but also don't think there's a chance of us getting him permanent either! 10 million plus they would be looking for and we ain't Paying that! Think he'll end up at a club mid EPL. just need to enjoy him while we can I'm afraid!

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 09:25:38
Roberts is worth nowhere near 10m imo great potential but needs to work on final ball and can't see a defence splitting pass. look at the difference between him and sinclairs final ball and pass already

So we would be buying an other player we have to progress. but on the flip side if or when he learns. what a player he'll be

Worth 4-5m imojis but would be money well spent.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 09:30:01
He didn't cost 10 mill lads, think it was 12, but that was add ons etc,

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 09:31:23
He is way out of our price range and we should be preparing to replace him already with similar type (not Florist) .
Celtic have everything in place to find young Scottish talent and our youth players, coming through recently have showed up well.
Maybe we will find another 'McGeady' for the future?

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 10:36:46
I can't see it happening! After his year up here in that attack and with European football if city of ill sell we won't be able to compete with the price range!

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 11:36:17
Belfast. 4-5m value in epl money would mean we should expect city to get an offer for 25m this time next year haha.

13 Aug 2016 01:37:24
I think that wee Summer lassie signed a new contract with Celtic recently . If it is for 3 or more years, I think Paddy will sign on with us, she is the catalyst.

{Ed007's Note - Isn't it KT she's after? I'm sure Paddy's got a long term bidey in.}

Awryt guys first time poster, long reader
No been this excited for a season for. a few years with BR can only see great times ahead. wanted to ask the question does anyone know if there may be a marquee signing if we qualify for CL? Ttly chuffed with team were building just now but would PL release funds for a player who could make the diffrence in CL if we get there?

Apparently the Jambos are going to vigorously defend their player over the penalty we got last week.
Here's the thing folks: You can look at that incident from the left or from the right. You can look at it from the front or from behind. You can look at it from the top and you can look at it from the bottom. and there is still NO evidence to support the claim that he was touched or even breathed on by KT.
They chastise Broony for calling Walker a cheat when it is they who are trying to cheat their way out of an embarrassing situation.
If it was Sevco doing it I could well understand but I thought the Jambos had a wee bit more about them.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

What gave u that impression besty. They're the same if not worse in ma eyes.

Agree2 Disagree0

11 Aug 2016 23:09:48
Scott brown was booked in a game 2015 for diving think it was Ross county, it's boring all the hype about it, it's a part of the game unfortunately. Everyone is a cheat nowadays. It's a tad embarrassing we make such a fuss about it, when guidetti n others have blatantly took a dive n won us points no one cared so much then.

Agree1 Disagree1

12 Aug 2016 00:02:57
I'm with you on this, but at the time there was a niggling doubt that there was a very slight change in trajectory of the players foot. Look at what the manager says- ' he felt a contact AND WENT DOWN'.

To me this sums up the incident and Nielson's naivety. Just because you feel it doesn't mean it's there- and he dove on the understanding it could be thus interpreted. I think they've jammed themselves with the language. Besides, contact is allowed in this game, last I checked.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 01:55:41
Did sick note get a ban for it last season or before after video evidence? So why should it not be different for any of the clubs? I mean, it may seem petty, but we can't have one rule for your club and one rule for the rest of the clubs! I think that that is issue here! Why should a Celtic player be banned and other club's players not!
This is what is wrong with the SFA! And as an outsider it totally sucks!

Agree2 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 06:49:05
What makes the Jamie walker incident worse is the fact that there is clear video evidence which 100% clearly shows there was no contact whatsoever yet walker says there was, clearly made a fool of himself and neilson and hearts as a club defending his actions doesn't show them in good light either. If walker had been slightly touched no one could argue with the penalty being given. If walker hadn't have claimed to be touched, and the ref gave the penalty he could have turned up at the hearing and said" look I anticipated contact, tried to avoid it and in doing so went down, the ref makes a decision and gave a penalty" not saying it would've been correct but that would've been better than coming up with a blatant lie.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 09:12:33
It is daft that there trying to defend it, it's a blatant dive. I'm just sayin for some of us to get annoyed by it, we had guidetti take a total dive, n win us a pen. No punishment for him. So sfa are inconsistent, as we got away with it. There's none of this crap about "walkers a cheat" it should never have been said, so when one of our boys does the same we will be open for criticism, SB should no better as Captain. It's double standards.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 10:50:57
Got to say guys, i'm confused. Football is a contact sport.
At corners jostling and holding of shirts etc occurs and is largely allowed. If this happened anywhere else on the pitch its a free kick, yet not in the penalty box. An attempt to defend in the box which results in a touch or intent to touch and the player goes down will probably result in a penalty, yet the above is ignored or allowed. Are there degrees of fouls allowed in the penalty box or exceptions? Stoke and Juventus at corners are brutal yet seem to get away with it. Wee walker thought Tierney would eventually make some contact and dived expecting it and Beaton awards a penalty. Yet all the pulling at corners is allowed?

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 10:54:56
Brown said what he said straight after the game which in hindsight may not have been the best time to comment on it, however after yesterday's hearing Browns comments have been vindicated as it turns out that walker is indeed a cheat. Like I said if there was the slightest contact fair enough, he goes down and the refs got a decision. As it turned out he went down under no contact but more importantly for me in this case he claimed there was contact which has since been proved 100% not to be true. As for the guidetti incident or in fact any other incident like it in the past does not make it acceptable and any player blatantly caught as was walker, they should be punished no matter the team. I also find it astonishing that a former professional who I shall not name publicly thinks that this sort of incident is perfectly OK in the game, what kind of message does that send out to youngsters watching it and coming through.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Aug 2016 20:48:53
A player we have been linked to in the past Hakim Ziyech, I player I would love to see in the hoops! Unfortunately he seems well out of our price range. His agent has come out today and said his future will be confirmed by the weekend rumour is going to Borussia Dortmund but who knows maybe Celtic might pull off a blinder and sign this boy up!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

11 Aug 2016 21:41:04
Altho 99.0% unlikely gazcfc21 with teams like dortmund interested a would usually dismiss a post like this but with BR in charge him alone and his influence could certainly swing certain players comin here i. e sinclair who tbh under RD would probs never have came here said it sinse he came but no matter who walks thru those gates a celtic park our best signing this year is BR what a manager.

After last night I'm beginning to think keeper may be bigger priority than outfield. Think if two signings are still to be made, I'd want a keeper first and then either a striker or playmaker. Cover up front would be a second for me and then a creative mid. When all fit we are going to have real depth in defensive options and a fair few options in midfield. Strikers is an area where we could be laid completely with suspensions, injuries etc.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

11 Aug 2016 20:37:32
I agree Davie think goalkeeper n another striker, now that we've got Sinclair in who can play from the left, with Roberts other side, although at present it'll be Forrest. We have an array of midfielders n forward type players who can alternate, roberts, sinclair, rogic, forrest, dembele mcgregor, so no need to sign anyone else in that mould, we may c a cm brought in if any of biton johansen etc were moved on, I'd prefer 2 keep johansen but I'll back the manager 100% on what he does.
Goalkeeper n a striker for me. Hail hail.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Aug 2016 21:48:43
Davie bhoy Brendan says that he would like two players for each position and I agree with you I think we need the keeper to either take Gordon's place or pressurise him into playing better.

Great game last, score and the performance. As a few have said every player had a good game, brown looks back to his best, as I've been saying you can see it game by game, rogic was quality and Sinclair looks like he will be a big player 4 us. McGregor I thought was everywhere winning balls starting moves n played really well, on form so hard to leave him out. If he keeps playing like that he will definitely nail down a place.
Forrest I hope has now hit the form we know he has but hopefully consistently, Rd had him playing well last season early on but as the season wore on his consistency just wasn't there, it's been his problem 4 years now, that n his final ball but I'm hoping that will all improve.
We won't play like that in every game but the high pressing game, quick movement n passing is how we need and should be playing. Long may it continue. Credit to br again.
Hail hail.

For me I'd say Sinclair, thought he was great, always a threat and he is in and around the box so often he should score a bundle this season. Faces a man n goes at him, can pick a pass n score a goal, same as Roberts. Rogic was excellent 2 n his touch n awareness are sublime, if he continues 2 improve n maintains fitness n can play full games, could be done player.
McGregor I've spoke about how he can go missing, but I felt last night he covered every blade, he keeps it simple but can also play the perfect pass, for the rogic 1st goal. He was cutting out breaks, chasing players down n starting attacks, with lovely passing with him n the others interchanging. If he can play that well consistently he would be a starter for me.
Dembele getting amongst the goals n he will only get better n score more, he has pace, power, awareness n good technique, looking forward to seeing him progress.
Defence were all great as was wee Forrest, a great team performance n the captain Scott brown, now that he is fit and injury free looks so much sharper, back to the Scott brown we know n love, great run and almost a goal as well, u can see him getting into a few attacking roles recently, the run against murder well n the scissors attempt against the Edinburgh Huns.
Hail hail.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Aug 2016 15:41:22
So BR has said he wants and has informed the board of the OTHER two he wants! He was very coy when asked about position so where do we think the two are on the park?

GK / / I think there a good chance it is, CG form has dipped from the form that won him the new deal also the body language between him and BR was not as good as others after the Hearts game

RB / / Again I think this is the other position, I think he is looking for more of a wing back you think of the interest of John Flannigan so I think that type is on his mind

There is a case for a CAM, Less of a case for a CDM given a role for Brown but still a case even less a case for a striker unless we get the money back for Ciftci

Just wondered what everyone thought?

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed007's Note - I think the only reasons Rodgers will bring in a CM is so that he has one of his own signings in there or if Johansen leaves. I'm delighted to see Rogic signing a new deal and even more delighted that he played for 90 mins last night. As a box to box midfielder
If we play with a 4 man midfield I'd go with:

Roberts ---- Brown ---- Rogic ---- Sinclair

A 3 man CM just add Ajer, Armstrong, Bitton, Johansen(?) or McGregor.}

11 Aug 2016 16:04:31
Don't think we need a rb ralston is good enough cover.

Agree1 Disagree1

11 Aug 2016 16:07:23
ED007 on the subject of Ajer, he seems to have dropped out the limelight not featuring in recent games, is he still carrying wrist injury.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - Wasn't it a thumb injury he had, Tim? Remember he's still a young lad settling into a new club in a new country. I never expected him to be a first team regular with the amount of midfielders we have.}

11 Aug 2016 16:14:40
Cheers Ed, So do you think it is a GK and a RB in that style that Is on BR's mind?

You think of the players OUT of the team last night! FOUR recognised centre halves, PR, LG and KT most of them left out are if you like first team picks, Motherwell were on a high mate and we blitz them

I agree with Mark McGhee somebody is going to get turned over big time (y)

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - I don't think we need a RB with Lustig and Janko in there and Ralston as back up. So far the only place I've heard we're looking for a GK is on the internet. If we are then it's well under the radar.
I think we need another striker in, what would we have done last night if Dembele had been injured, played Ciftci who will put in a shift but is not a goalscorer.}

11 Aug 2016 16:18:23
I would be happy with a goalkeeper and a right back.
I would be over the moon if we added a striker to that list.

Agree0 Disagree1

11 Aug 2016 16:25:02
A GK and a ST (versatile one) would be my picks. If Johansen and Bitton stay I'm fine with our CM dept. for now.

That was a plus point for me too about Rogic, said last night he answered a question mark I had over his head by getting a very good 90mins in. He's never had a proper rest, pre-season and full season yet really so hopefully that's all behind him.

I also agree with that line-up there Ed, but would see it more as a 4-1-3-2/ diamond set up. Domestically anyways. Brown has also found a new lease of life just sitting sweeping up any danger. There's plenty of boys who can fill in the gaps and allow rest too.

Agree1 Disagree2

11 Aug 2016 16:41:26
Think rb is covered jamie . ed. I'd prefer rogic free role between mid and attack . i think with just him and brown in mid we'd get overrun . we'd either have to go 3 at back or drop dembele or griff to accommodate him best .3 at back that then could impact tierney . could also go 433 with no roberts or forrest . with a couple of more signings of quality br is going g to have to make some tough selections . good position to be in or players greeting in background wanting games? Anyway what I was wanting to say is I hope he can fit rogic into the team effectively.

11 Aug 2016 18:10:19
goalie and striker for me,

Agree2 Disagree0

11 Aug 2016 21:06:22
The good thing is there are so many combinations, the forward line we have is looking pretty tasty, I agree on rogic we have to get him in that team as he is a special talent. A forward line of Griff, dembele, Sinclair, rogic n Roberts, Forrest while Roberts is injured, is very strong. Looking forward to another trophy winning season.
Hail hail.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 00:11:14
Anyone think with me that brownie is being encouraged to play more attacking football, and thriving as a result? I also have to apply applaud Lustig and emilio- stalwarts usually tho izzaguirre gets stretched at times. Lustig was the reason we let Matthews go, and free of injury is a no brainer for any manager. One of the best passers of the ball we've seen at the back since Elliot and stubbsy.

Was at the game last night and I have to admit Forrest seems to have turned things around, his attitude appears to be much better as is his workrate, and he is now much more of a team player. I was sceptical of giving him a new contract, but hope I was wrong to doubt him, if we can get Forrest supplying decent balls to Dembele and Griffiths this tim will be happy.

Right. One thing that annoys me about some of the people on here is continually slagging players, then the player in converdation has a good game and they revert back to "the change our club needs". Make your mind up before slagging our players off, we have more in our pocket than we think. Rodgers knows what he's doing. Although room for improvement is always required. Cheers HH.

Are people not allowed to express concern at out of form players or allowed to praise players who have a sudden change in form?

What annoys a lot of us is self proclaimed super fans telling grown men they can't main when a player is rubbish.

If we accept rubbish, we get rubbish.

Everybody is entitled to their view without someone trying to make them feel less of a tim.

That really annoys me.

Players need to man up and be Celtic men. They were criticised because they deserved it.
End of.

If we describe our players as rubbish we are likely to destroy their confidence and get rubbish . I know of a poster who abused and criticised Efe for the greater part of a season and then posted that we thought Efe had lost confidence . I wonder how he got that idea.
I might be wrong but most of us claim to be Celtic supporters . Now if any man can explain to me how we can support a player by shouting abuse, at or by writing abusive remarks on a Celtic forum, I would love to read it .
Sometimes we get the players we deserve End of.

Old Bhoy this forum is populated and read by members. I don't think Efe or any other Celtic player is going to be demoralised or encouraged by what we write on this forum. This is a great forum but it's about our opinions to each other it's not going to make much difference to Efe's attitude?

Though James Forrest looked superb last night and as a few guys have said, BR must be doing something right with him. Which I don't know why so many of us are surprised, after all he did manage to get £50m for Sterling so he must know what he is doing.

Congratulations BR and alo the Celtic team for easily the most comprehensive team performance I have seen at CP since ONeill imo. If this is level we can expect to see, teams will be terrified.

Did anyone notice how absolutely destroyed their right back was. He was shattered mouth open etc etc. I see James Tavernier is trying to complete a transfer before the game against us. Sinclair won't just rip him a new one, he will already be giving him nightmares.
On form like that I think the reality will be very much worse. As for the GRASS it most definitely will be greener on the other side with wee forrest ripping him one too. Chuckle.

I don't often agree with the Daily Record but this morning's summary of our performance last night was good. Here it is:

Slick, scintillating, swashbuckling Celtic .

If this is a taster of what is to come in the future then the Celtic fans are in for a real treat.

The Hoops may be a work in progress under the Northern Irishman but they simply blew the Steelmen away with a rampant display of power, pace and invention to coast into the quarter-final of the Betfred Cup.

PS, they're still a twat newspaper! lol.

I think as well as the fans, BR has really rejuvenated a lot of the players. Simply because he's a recognised name. One thing I was hoping to expect was slick, scintillating, swashbuckling forward play, and last night was a good example. Couple that with the natural progression of our already young squad, and some good additions, and it's looking, so far, pretty promising. Sadly his biggest game (s) for many, will be the CL play-off. But if we can do that next week, we'll have one foot in the door.

Aindoh, regardless of who walked or who was pushed, BR has shown just how poor or just how weak Ronnie was as manager. Basically same players. Brown, Rogic, Forrest, janko are all different class this season.

Great performance last night but leaves the question where does everyone fit in when fit? Last night was a 4-3-3 with no griff. Rogic played very well and Roberts will probably replace Forrest. If rogers changes the system to 2 up top Rogic will drop out to leave 2 midfield players ie brown and McGregor.

In recent seasons when we 'rest' players of have injuries and suspensions, it has disrupted the team and any momentum, so it was very nice to see us playing so well and creating so many chances.
The addition of Sinclair, Toure and Dembele gives quality competition for places, rather than 'make do' squad men and when everyone is available, we will have plenty of options and variety for most opponents or situations.
There are still areas like goalkeeper that needs tweaking and I know it's very early in the season, but the attitude and improvement in players who have disappointed and the possible addition of even more quality raises optimism and confidence already.

Morning Bhoys, Great performance last night, it was the first time in yrs that i was glued to the match, superb performances from just about everyone but special praise for rogic and sinclair, forrest i thought was excellent and imo shows you what a bit of confidence can do, And BR saying that he wants 2 more will keep everyone on their toes. definitely think a new keeper is in play, ( saw BR getting annoyed with CG distribution) . i was saying we should get a creative mid but if rogic can play like that every week there's no need imo, Really enjoyed it last night, plus seeing lubo again just made my night, HH.

Ed, I was talking about Liam Henderson with my old man and he said he heard that apparently he's a bit too fond of a drink. He stressed that he had no idea where the rumour had come from just that someone had mentioned it. Have you heard anything like this? I'd hope it's just a bit of troublemaking.

{Ed007's Note - I've heard the rumour, Kev but never heard it from anyone that mattered. No disrespect to your dad there btw, it's always someone that knows someone that knows his cousin sort of thing. Allan Stubbs certainly never had any problem with Henderson or if he did he's keeping quiet about it.}
You always get stories like that about young players, remember they are allowed to relax and let their hair down - at the right times of course.}

The Lisbon Lions were known to like a small tipple in 1967, apart from wee Jimmy and Bobby Lennox and I think one or two others . Jimmy Didn't touch alcohol for another couple of years, and then made up for it .
Drinking alcohol of any amount should play no role in a modern footballer's life.

Ask Bobby Lennox the next time you are talking to him, about how much he and wee Jimmy drank in 1967 . Ask him how much Stevie Chalmers drank at any time when he was with Celtic .

From the early 60s to when they all left Celtic after the final whistle on a saturday the team would head straight to The Griffin Bar in Glasgow and hit the drink they also drank in Hamilton at the Trocadero Bar. I have books by Gemmell, Auld, Hughes, Johnstone, McNeill, Murdoch etc in which they all talk of their drinking gang the even smuggled in carry outs when they were down at Seamill Hydro which Stein would regularly catch them drinking. The supposed tea-totaller Bobby Lennox had his own pub in Saltcoats where the team took a good bucket too.

In the early 60'e the Lisbon lions didn't play together as a team .
Maybe you thinkiX ng of the players who were aged in their 60
Bobby Lennox would have far from the only publican who didn't drink.

{Ed007's Note - My parents met at the Troc in Hamilton! My dad took great delight seeing it knocked down, whether it was because of the money he made out the deal or a more darker reason he never said - he did mutter something about a curse being lifted though.}

12 Aug 2016 02:21:49
Most of The Lions were at Celtic from the the early 60s some like McNeill and Auld (In his first spell) were signed in 58 and 59 respectively your just an arse mate my original post was tongue in cheek about players having a drink. And also to another of your incorrect facts old bhoy the great Bobby Murdoch never made it to his 60s he died at 59.
