Ok bhoys and ghirls taking tonev on loan for a season with the option to buy is clever he is a very talented player who could be a star in the hoops however signing a couple of 17-18 year old defenders from man city on loan is taking the piss . Ok 1 . What about our youth players??
2. Was it not RD who said signing loan players is a non starter as you are helping produce talent for their parent team with no benefit to us at all
3. Why aren't we identifying players to sign permanently?
4 celtic football club plc. Are now making an absolute fool of its supporters ( the people who love and invest in the club) by selling own players for high transfer fee then bringing in loans and free transfers I am 36 years old and a celtic diehard but I'm getting very disheartened by what I am seeing . I want to give Ronnie time but what is he doing? Allowing this to happen.

I am a very saddened celtic fan there hasn't been a worse start to a season behind the scenes at celtic since 1993 fact I was there!!

Celtic always

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I can see your point right up to the point that there is apparently an option to buy. How much money has been wasted over the last few years on permanent transfers of guff. Then on the other hand we had guys on loan like Miku who never set the Heather on fire but we weren't left trying to offload him. I see the Tone move as positive. He's not a Robbie Keane or Craig Bellamy who was never likely to stay but still have the option of saying goodbye if it doesn't work.

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't think Ron has much say on this. The policy seems to be for more loans which only ties the managers hands. He does not get the chance to develop his team as he can't guarantee keeping the players for any length of time. Is this the level we are reaching where we are becoming a nursery team for the EPL?

Agree0 Disagree0

There is no scarcity of Celtic players that Deila can develop if it is possible .
Tonev if it is working out, would become another . I just thing if Deila is able to really bring the players on, then we will be ok .

Agree0 Disagree0

So we've signed tonev, not exactly setting the world alight but the loan to buy option I definetly prefer better to see what we're trying before we buy! If this is the level of player were signing better to be cautious he might turn out well but better than wasting another 2m!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

11 Aug 2014 22:01:16
I seen that Steven Thompson was saying Dundee Utd weren't selling anymore players even if 2m was offered he's not entertaining it, There goes our chance of getting Armstrong in!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Every player has a price. Its a PR stunt by Thompson to drive price up. I know for a fact every player at Dundee United is available for right price, as my mate is friends with Jackie McNamara

Agree0 Disagree0

Dundee utd have had two price lists for a number of years methinks! One for us and one for everyone out with spfl .

Agree0 Disagree0

Young Gauld hasn't se the World alight as has been demoted to the "B" team
£3 m seems a lot of money to pay for a reserve team player. We might have done well to miss him .

One wildcard signing can be made up to 24 hours before the first leg against Maribor. Fully expect Celtic to make one.

I'm still hoping for one tonight tbh

Agree0 Disagree0

Who are we going to get in on loan this time? Disgusted we haven't pushed the boat out and at least paid a fee for someone.

Agree0 Disagree0

Total rubbish again let's face it we ain't going to sign any decent players this window the board are a joke money money money

I think today is a perfect example of pedro taking the piss he knows we have until 11 to sign player for the next round it has been all day and the boy from villa still not signed the good old statement we were working hard all day on a few things and this is the only one we could get over the line will be words of the sort getting really really bitter at the moment

Tbh I've heard all this siht bout celtic not letting legia through as he only played 3 minutes of the game. So wot if that's the case then would u turn down the chance if a penalty if it hit a players hair on his arm or a finger nail. Didn't think so remember rules are rules and u should abide by them. Well done Celtic

Why are we not giving mcgeouch a chance on the wing or behind the forwards also getting a tall forward who can hold the ball up and give us a different dimension, as all strikers are similar, we also need another centre half

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We can only presume that Deila hasn't been impressed enough, in the short time he has had pre-season, or during training sessions .

Afternoon Ed. Here is a different slant on things Ed Big Efe's suspension in this last leg does it count as being served / spent with this game being "forfeited"?

How ironic would it be even "celtic like" to fall to the same thing we benefited from?

Surely somebody needs to pose the question at our club beforehand atvb jb7

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Jamie that is an excellent point.

Thank you Chris don't suppose you know the answer do you Ed?

The result of the game was 3-0 and he did not play so suspension served

Much obliged to both

Would it not be worth seeing if we could get Wilfried zaha from Manchester United on loan? Needs game time, we need a winger. Not.forest interested so maybe affordable?

Hi ED,

Out of interest, IF (emphasis on IF) Celtic did support Legia in their claim that the punishment for the rule infringement was (in the view of CFC) too draconian and IF Celtic came out publicly and ventured the following statement .

"In the interests of sportsmanship and fair play, the Celtic family acknowledge and respect Legia Warsaw's view that the "penalty" for rule infringement in this case seems wholly disproportionate, and if the opportunity existed for Celtic FC to forfeit their place in the 3rd and final qualifying round for the Champions League and volunteer Legia Warsaw as their replacements (with Celtic FC entering the Europa League in place of Legia Warsaw with no re-draw in either competition sought), Celtic FC would support UEFA and the Court of Arbitration for Sport's decision to re-apply the "penalty" in such a way that permits Legia Warsaw to progress to the 3rd and final qualifying round for the Champions League, notwithstanding Celtic FC will compete to the highest standards possible no matter the final appeal process determination(s)."

Now I know that this will involve Maribor and whoever Legia were scheduled to play and I know rules are rules and I know that CFC is a business BUT (BUT!) I am simply wanting to now what the reaction would be among my fellow Bhoys (and you Ed.), if this scenario where to unfold.

I am not looking for any feedback beginning with "it won't or can't happen" . that has been done to death.however I would be very interested indeed to hear the views of the masses on such a scenario where it to unfold .

Would we welcome such a bold move?

If Celtic released that statement I would be extremely annoyed. Celtic as always complete the paperwork correctly. I wouldn't have batted an eyelid if the walkover score was actually 2 nil and Celtic went out but it's not. The rule just so happens to go in Celtics favour, now when it comes to Europe - Celtic - in recent history don't get much luck. It is a second chance that through no fault of our own we will accept gladly. The situation would be differently thought of by me if it were lawyers from CFC who discovered the 'loophole' or blaitant rule break what ever you would perceive it as.

Agree0 Disagree0

Utter nonsense. Rules are there to be followed, they broke them end of story.Remember one thing, if the guy had came on and scored we would be out.Why on earth would you even consider a replay? If Forster had not saved the penalties we would be out. This is Legias problem it has nothing to do with us.Do you really think if the roles were reversed they would have sanctioned a winner take all one off game?

Agree0 Disagree0

So are you only looking for replies that say "it can happen"?
Try this reply: "It won't happen. It can of course happen in theory but it won't happen." And because of that it's a nonsense question to begin with (no offence intended).
And why should it happen anyway? If we had done something wrong then there would be an option to do something in return but that isn't the case. We are more lucky than a lucky thing in Lucky Street on this occasion. Perhaps it's better we just get on with it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Paradiseone, I agreed with you the other day, but your topics are gone beyond ridiculous, all the what if's,, well at this stage you sound like the legia chairman, we did not make the rules, there uefa's decision go to there forum with that cr*p you come up with, as much as our board are greedy sh*t* and take us supports for every penny and don't reinvest and always short change us for the last decade, there is a topic. As for celtic fc we done nothing wrong so please move on!

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Aug 2014 19:26:31
Does anyone know when the appeal is being heard? I know they said 5 days but do they count Saturday and Sunday in that, or is it 5 working days?

Agree0 Disagree0

Total and utter nonsense. Why would anyone no matter what team they supported be in favour of giving their place up? You mention celtic family and fair play, what about celtics right to fair play?

Legia have no one to blame but themselves. It was legias fault they never followed rules and are out of CL.

What kind of example is that setting if Legia were allowed back in? Not a good one as intergeity of game will be compromised.

Agree0 Disagree0

Appeal is on Wednesday 13th .

If Celtic issued a statement like that they would deserve to be asked not to enter any forth coming UEFA competitions . Rules have to be maintained .

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said Yourman. I also think if they did issue statement like that, expect to see demands for Lawwells resignation

Agree0 Disagree0

The question intent is nice but there are so many reasons why it is not a viable position. Our directors would be open to legal penalties for failing to what is in the best interest of their shareholders. That alone precludes any action which is morally fair.

hi ed do you think tonev will sign before 11pm

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Yes.}

It's all very disheartening to think we're struggling to get a player in on loan by 11pm tonight when we've sold players totalling over £11 million and everybody in the world knows we need players in now. It's a weird way to run a club and would think someone from within the club should let us know what the problem is wether it be thru official or unofficial channels?

Agree0 Disagree0

The problem is the league we play in mate. Scotland holds no appeal, professionally or financially for the type of player we want.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jim, is the Champions League signing deadline tonight at 11?
I thought it was NEXT Monday at 11pm.

Agree0 Disagree0

Tonight is a deadline but you can have 1 signing before first leg next week so long as it's day before match. I would have expected 2/3 before tonight as that is minimum required imo just to clarify would Armstrong Russell Gms souttar and most of championship in England not fancy a crack at cfc?it seems it's celtic that don't want to spend money. Why?

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Aug 2014 16:06:24
Is just me. Why are we signing a player that Neil Lennon identified last year, has RD not got his own transfer targets? I believe he does, but it's clear to see that our managers get told what players they are getting in and also who are leaving.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Tonev is another Lawwell/Park signing, identifying players wasn't in NL's remit.}

If that's the case Ed then why did Peter Lawell not just give the job to John Park, just as much as a gamble giving it to Ronny Delia. Because we are still miffed why RD got it in the first place, PL sounds like a bit of a dictator so why not just give it to his best mucker (JP) then get John Collins as No2. One big happy dissfunctional family.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Maybe that's the masterplan?}

The players Deila has been identifying were for Norway . We would think we were looking for better .
Deila said he was looking for fast wingmen and Park would have been able to identify Tonev and others.

The whole time Lennon was in charge I and others blamed him for some of the duds we signed . Now we were told he wasn't involved .

Agree0 Disagree0

Tbh I don't think deila is the manager in the traditional sense more like the head coach with lawwell and park making the signing's

Agree0 Disagree0

Very strange set up. The chief scout identifies players for the chief executive to look over and the manager doesn't have a say on transfer targets. I'm beginning to think this is a practical joke. Next Peter Lawell will be coming out the closet saying he wants to be a woman and we've to call him Patricia

Agree0 Disagree0

I just pray that lawwell gets to f**k. If no £ is spent this transfer window, questions must be answered! Sick of hearing this "celtic do their business behind closed doors". its a clever deflective tactic, creating an illusion on celtic fans that club is looking for players they just don't want to reveal when they are actually doing nothing

Agree0 Disagree0

Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Samaras are both still on a free transfer, surely they would be worth a punt. Also we IMO still need a CB, LB, RW and a CM.

Hail Hail

BelfastBhoy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No Samaras. That's a step back, says it all if he's still a free agent

Agree0 Disagree0

Signing four or five players just isn't going to happen .

Agree0 Disagree0

Samaras has had offers from lyon in France a Turkish club and from a Russian club and china aswell people on here give him a hard time but we could do worse than him believe me!

Agree0 Disagree0

Good God Sammi again? Take the blinkers off with the big man guys. He lived on a few goals in Europe, notably Barca, when the ball went in off his shoulder. The fact is he underachieved at Celtic, talent was there but application was not.

I have a feeing that there are too many players with a UK "mentality" that could prove disruptive and lead to a disconnect with a foreign coaching philosophy. RD apparently wants to get to "know" the players beyond the training field and be a father-like figure to all including a say on matters such as diet and extracurricular hobbies. I am not so sure that the likes of Forrest, Griffiths, Stokes, Brown, Mulgrew, Commons and the like will embrace this. Scottish football IS IN THE DARK AGES when it comes to professional footballers honing skills, working on weaknesses, staying mentality fit and alert, dieting, aerobics, yoga and all of those things that the BEST players in the world seem to embrace with little fuss.

RD spoke about assembling a squad that was "curious" about new techniques and ways to improve. Does the Celtic squad as a "collective" look and feel like a squad that wants to go the extra mile to correct some of the wrongs. Will Adam Matthews ever learn to pass properly? Will Ambrose ever learn when to move the ball or clear the ball as opposed to inviting danger by taking unnecessary risks? Will Izzy ever learn to pay attention to that is behind him at the back post? Will Brown learn that there is a time and place to make a lunging tackle and that there is ever a time to throw a forearm in another pro's face? Can Commons undertake a new exercise regime to recover quicker after a 20 yard lung busting run as opposed to going AWOL for 10 minutes as he catches his breath? I will back the current crop if they show any signs of willingness and effort to (a) improve further on those aspects of the game they are already good at and (b) work even harder on those aspects of the game that they struggle with individually and collectively. This goes back to the PROGRESS point. Celtic fans love a trier and we will turn up to watch effort and endeavour. What we will NEVER tolerate is a first team player who doesn't apply himself. Where quality is lacking we need the following

(a) effort & endeavour
(b) organisation
(c ) fitness
(d) heart
( e) never say die/never beaten attitude
( f) team spirit / oneness / a collective approach where the sum is greater than the individual parts
( g) heart (and fairness and conviction in their aerial duels and tackling)

St Johnstone will have this on Wednesday night. Will we?

If RD demands it and the players do not respond, does that mean RD should go or should we get behind our manager and see to it that he survives the slackers and those who aren't prepared to go and do the hard wok in lieu of individual brilliance?

I have this notion that RD may be the right man. NL was successful but where we developing? Where players improving?

I will back RD if I see progress or if he continues to say the right things. Will the players pick up the gauntlet and the fight or will they HOPE that their individual and collective lack of ambition will result in RD being axed with those complicit living to fight another day?

Not sure what to think? Not entirely convinced that the men at the top have a shared objective with the fans; a competitive team on the park that we can be PROUD of.

A team on the park to be proud of.

A team on the park to be proud of.

Is that a big ask? We don't demand a team of world beaters; we understand the financial realities . but we can still aspire to HAVE A TEAM ON THE PARK TO BE PROUD OF.WIN, LOSE OR DRAW .

Ed reading this morning re the legia saga, that platini had told legia chairman that the only option for them to return to the champions league, was if celtic waived their right to play in the competition.if celtic do waive their right would there be problems for celtic from Uefa.killy

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I don't believe for a minute Platini said that to Boniek.}

Thanks ed I don't either.killy.

Agree0 Disagree0

I got a telling off after Wed night off my Hubby for saying I didn’t have much confidence in Ronny, maybe it was just my reaction to the soul destroying performance but I know we need to give him time. I just didn’t like the team selection, timing of the subs or his overall body language.

All the things you mentioned Paradise, diet, effort etc can be just down to discipline which has been needing sorting for a while. Brown lunging out, Ambrose walking the ball out of the box can surely be addressed?

I agree though, Scottish football is needing surgery.

Agree0 Disagree0

Deila said he would try to impose his changes slowly . I have a feeling. That what he thinks is slowly the players think is too fast.
Let's hope they can compromise and improve team performance .

Agree0 Disagree0

Mrs E, Do you not have much confidence in Delia cause he has no connection with club? I.e "celtic minded".

Agree0 Disagree0

DN, you better not be fishing!

No I wouldn't say that at all but the unknown could be a factor - like I had no idea who he was and I'd never really seen the team he managed before. He just keeps talking as if someone has told him what we all want to hear, attacking football etc. As I said, it was just his body language last week and that of the players, and my initial reaction to the score

You can give me into bother as well if you want, I've already heard it lol

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2014 09:41:59
It is no coincidence that all the people you hear talking about RD say he is a great manger. It is obvious to a blind man that Celtic are miles behind in the way football is played now. Our teams have no pace, lack of movement, inability to move the ball quickly and accurately, vision, hard work, structure and that comes from a host of things. The environment we play in means they can coast through games, there is very little challenge if any at all so when they are asked to play against average European teams they struggle to adapt and teals like Legia make them look pedestrian. I think we have the right team in place now, JC nad RD have the same ideology. The players are athletes and have to behave accordingly, diet, exercise, rest but they also need to listen and learn and if they can't do that then out the door they go. It will take a bit of time for this revolution to come to fruition but I suppose it depends if you want change or do you just want to win the league so you can gloat. I want to watch a Celtic team that is fast, free flowing and entertaining, Lennon's team were not that, in fact we haven't had that since MON's regime where he spent a fortune to get it. Faithfull through and through are the words, so have some faith, give the guys a chance, they have only been there a couple of months, if that, let them weed out the ones who are not willing to embrace the new regime and their plans and IF these guys can implement what they want then the end result will be what we all want.

Is La Liga the best in the World (poll of the day)?

The only 2 teams I would really watch are Barcelona and Real Madrid, I think El Classico is the number 1 football match and i'm definitely looking forward to it this season. Messi and Suarez v Ronlado and Bale. How will Pepe react to the volatile Suarez - exciting stuff! I don't think any other league will offer this and they definitely have some of the best and exciting players in the world.

Bundesliga is always a goal fest but do I watch other matches other than a Bayern v Dortmund match - No

English - *sigh* Yes I watch this. Super Sunday is marketed and promoted so much and in my household they will tune in and to be honest, it can be the highlight of our Sunday. Its competitive at the bottom and the top with so much at stake financially.

I think the answer to the best league in the world is depends on what you are looking for, I don't tune into a Dortmund v Hertha or Villareal v Sevilla but can watch whatever Super Sunday serves up.

I know the EPL has a lot of mediocre players but so does every league.

Brainwashed by Sky Mrs E, I can't remember the last Super Sunday game I watched from start to finish, normally get fed up and turn over.
Personally I know more players in the Spanish league than I do EPL.
Also you can give me a good old Scottish stramash anyday rather than the overhyped EPL.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Aug 2014 14:10:20
A must admit a love the premiership purely for the fact it's fast paced and anyone can beat anyone. La liga it's rare that real or barca ever get beat so sometimes makes it a bit boring same as the bundesliga it's rare that you ever see bayern lose a game and serie a is just a total bore fest lol

Agree0 Disagree0

I was just trying to be honest Joe and not be mega hipster lol

I wouldn’t say I know more players in La Liga particularly outwith Barca, Real Madrid and Atletico but do recognise names in the Premiership – brainwashed I know.

To be honest if its end to end stuff, then that’s what I like best as well no matter what league or team.

I have an interest in Celtic and Liverpool so will watch when they are playing. Quite enjoyed the Liverpool v Dortmund friendly yesterday.

Gunnie, they do make the Premiership exciting towards the end of the season. Suppose it all comes down to personal preference, jeez you get younger guys watching to see what the Ultras are doing never mind the football.

Agree0 Disagree0

The hype of the EPL comes entirely from the players/managers and SLY combined They are narrow minded and jingoistic and have a misguided biased view.
La Liga has always atracted the very top players from Europe and S America; but for atmosphere and good football combined I reckon the Germans win.

I feel for Legia. A simple stupid mistake has cost them big time. Yes the rules are there and they didn't follow them but I'd be well annoyed if it had happened to us and I think everyone else would be too so perhaps we can understand their annoyance. However I think the way they are handling the punishment is very poor.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We should offer to play a friendly with them, it would be a sell out if in Poland and get them some money back

Agree0 Disagree0

F@ck them. Only themselves to blame! Celtic are playing by the rules. maybe something they should have done.

Agree0 Disagree0

Vambo, that will NEVER happen. It would be a game with a lot of anger and frustration for the Legia fans and players. We'd end up with our own fans being attacked and half our team on the treatment table.

Briggs. I know what you're saying about the rules and at the end of the day Legia did break them. They have no choice but to take the punishment but being totally honest wouldn't you feel the same pain as them if it had happened the other way round? Particularly when the offending player had made no impact in the game and the overall result was so convincing over two legs? I think most people would.
At the end of the day it doesn't matter, the rule will stand and we are very fortunate. I have a bitter sweet feeling about it all though even though I'm glad we get another chance.

Agree0 Disagree0

I understand that Briggs, I was thinking of the charitable nature of CFC

Agree0 Disagree0

The Charitable nature of CF C cannot interfere with the rulings of UEFA .
We cannot provide an precedent for other clubs to use in the future . We would likely be banned from UEFA .
To play a friendly would be stupid only stoke up their anger if they happened to win .

Agree0 Disagree0

Were we not charitable in both legs?

Agree0 Disagree0

@chrisbhoy. I did initially feel for them but the way they are going about things atm I've no sympathy whatever. If it was the other way about I would be more pissed off with whoever made the error not the other team.

@vambo I would rather our club helped organisations who REALLY need our charitable donations.

Agree0 Disagree0

@6) Indeed. We were VERY charitable in both legs. Our players clearly thought their players needed a massive confidence boost. And they gave it to them in spade loads! lol

I remember beating Benfica on the toss of a coin many years ago. While Big Jock said it was unfair he also acknowledged it was the rules and we had to get on with it. This Legia thing is just the same. The rules are there and were broken, fixed penalty handed out. Rules applied.
Why did Ingerlund not ask Argentina to do the right thing when Maradona fisted the ball into the net? because the ref made a decision and that was the end of it. The same as when the ball was clearly over the line against Germany. unfair? YES Decision stand? YES. move on
