thought mgeady would of showed his class tonight, to me it looked as if hes stalled in his development, really thought he would take the game by storm when he broke through with us. Iv not seen alot of him in russia but didny look a 9m player tonight.

Gutted at performance tonight but keep battling. Must go 5-4-1 v Spain and Italy and rely on set pieces. Right for Celts, we need a Sutton/Hartson type..look no further than our national team in this order lenny:
1. Doyle (relegated with Wolves would jump at chance)
2. Walters (Stoke to Celts..champs league carrot must be dangled)
3. Cox (powerful lad works hard)

Believable2 Unbelievable5

Why don't you add the rest of the ROI squad in there aswell?

Our national team are not at the euros. Tulip {Ed007's Note - Not all of our posters are Scottish.}

Well said ed. Far too many clowns on here. They need to learn the meaning of banter and look at rangers fans posts that do get put on. Keep up the good work. {Ed007's Note - It's water off a duck's back to me. How sad must your life be if you get upset over a football forum? The Gilfnards forget that with a click of my mouse I can block them or trace their location if needs be, we don't want idiots clogging the pages up. People need to understand the whole meaning of racism, it is not exclusive to skin colour.}

Re wee Pat's Locarno post...
Hey wee man you are showing your age there, I knew it as Tiffany's, we
would get blootered in pubs, as beer was cheaper than in clubs, then if you got a "lumber" you walked her home, and arranged to meet next Saturday at "Dizzy Corner" if she knew Glasgow, she would say no
and arrange another meeting place.
This was before mobile phones were widely used and people arranged to
meet from one week to next, it was amazing the number of poor suckers
who stood at Dizzy Corner for hours waiting on a date that got cold feet
and never turned up....
Hey Pat, did you ever give any wee lassie a "dizzy" LOL Timalloy

Believable4 Unbelievable1

I think he has come unstuck tonight by defending too deep against such a good slick, football side. Pity a few of the Irish lads are below par tonight of all nights.
I am also puzzled as to why Mcgeady was hooked after one bad pass - when Duff and other EPL auto-picks have done little to impress.

Just released on BBC Sport;

Rangers could attempt to sign new players before the club is officially out of administration.
Charles Green is aiming to have a Company Voluntary Arrangement approved on Thursday, after which there is a 28-day cooling-off period.
But SPL rules state that, with board approval, clubs in administration may replace players whose contracts expire.
"If you are correct, that is an avenue open to the club," Green told BBC Scotland on Sunday.
Asked about the wisdom of discussing buying players in the days leading up to a vote by creditors being offered just a few pence in pound Green told BBC Scotland: "No money is required for players. Most are free because of the financial crisis across Europe."
Asked about money for wages, he added: "That's why I've added £1.5m to the budget."
Further funds will be freed up as current players leave.
Rule 6.20 of the Scottish Premier League's regulations makes provision for signings being made in special circumstances by clubs who have suffered an insolvency event.
While there is no guarantee the SPL board would approve any signings, with several players' contracts expiring, that could allow Rangers to use the rule to bring replacements in.
If the CVA is approved, which is still the subject of dubiety, the cooling-off period would take Rangers to mid-July.
The club had been banned from signing players for 12 months by a Scottish Football Association-appointed Judicial Panel, a decision upheld by an Appellate Tribunal but subsequently set aside by the Court of Session.
The Appellate Tribunal must now decide what punishment to administer.

I've said all along, stadium-naming is an emotive issue, but whatever we do it would always be Ibrox Stadium.

Charles Green
In the meantime, Green has confirmed he had told a supporters' meeting on Wednesday that he has a list of 19 target players drawn up, five of whom are involved at Euro 2012.
And he says he has added £1.5m to the budget Ally McCoist and the administrators Duff & Phelps had been working to for next season.
Green had also been examining the possibility, if Thursday's creditors' vote goes in favour of a CVA, of setting aside the 28-day cooling-off period, to allow a swifter exit from administration.
But lawyers have advised that even if the two main creditors - HMRC and Ticketus - had been willing to agree to that, it would not be possible because other creditors had to be allowed the right to raise objections in that period and only a judge can bring the period of administration to an end.
Of the money raised so far (£5.5m is lodged with the lawyers Taylor Wessing, as confirmed by Simon Shipperley of Duff and Phelps at the fans' meeting), £2m has come from Singaporean investors, £2m from another major investor, with the remainder split.
Having closed the initial round of funding with £10m raised, Green says he will entertain a second round of investment with a maximum of £4m per investor.
Green also referred to a £10m stadium-naming deal with "an airline investor or alternative".
"I've been speaking to a number of people, some of whom are connected to our investors, some not," he added.
"I've said all along, stadium-naming is an emotive issue, but whatever we do it would always be Ibrox Stadium."

Agree0 Disagree5

Rangers haven't been trying to kid anyone regarding stars on the strip. The 5 stars represent 50 league titles.

The initial idea of stars on the strip was in fact to represent 10 league titles, the gold star representing the European cup was introduced after....

Does anyone know why Man City have 3 stars? What are their reasons?

TTG you are correct, the 3 stars on the man city badge are just for decoration. johnbhoy79

There clubs all over the world with stars on their strips, all with different meanings. Juventus were the 1st to introduce a star on their strip away back in the 50s or 60s after they won their 10th league title.

I see someone has disagreed with my 1st post lol. How can you disagree with fact?

TTG

It does because i bought mine it still has five stars check down the bottom left hand side.......

Campbell Ogilvie quoted in the Scottish S*n of Sunday:

"When I took on an EBT myself I didnt have any of my salary paid into it. It was bonuses and part of my settlement which was paid into it."

Oh dear Mr Ogilvie, you've just admitted receiving payments through a loan scheme that were tax free, that should have been paid through payroll and subject to PAYE and NI.

When are bonuses and a settlement ever paid as a loan?

And how was the remaining part of your settlement paid, through payroll perhaps?

Dear, dear, dear, Mr Ogilvie, you are a silly sausage.

K-Dot.

Believable8 Unbelievable1

Ok then mr taxman , you explain what he,s done wrong , tedbear

Agree0 Disagree3

All income is subject to tax. Any money withdrawn from an EBT was not taxed. Therefore Mr Ogilvie received income, be it wages, salary, bonuses or otherwise tax free, which is illegal.

Is that clear enough threadbare?

You're getting worse everyday.

GoldCoastBhoy

Agree4 Disagree1

Do u ever give up tedbear?

Byars38625

Agree3 Disagree1

K-Dot. It may serve you well to broaden your horizon in reference to the EBT trust fund loopholes.
May i suggest a good starting point would be the Dextra Vs J Macdonald case which was raised in parliament and the high court. Have you ever wondered why HMRC appear to have been so generous towards Rangers by letting this scenario run for so long?
P.O.B.

Agree0 Disagree1

Maby i,ve missed somethin guys , has ogilvie been jailed or lost his job because of any wrong doing , byars you seem to be getting as worked up as taco and k-dot on this tax stuff , maby you should organize a 3some , but be warned byars the state of arousal they wer both in lastnite over this tax stuff can i suggest you put up a splashbak , tedbear

Agree0 Disagree2

The statement from Ogilvie that I refer to above in the S*u has been taken from an interview with him in the Scotland on Sunday.

Ogilvie goes to great lengths to explain how he had absolutely no involvement in the EBTs of the players and it was all done by someone else. He knew nothing about them at all.

Ogilvie states that the Rangers players did not have side letters.

A very strange answer to give.

If he had absolutely no involvement in the EBT schemes and it was all down to someone else, surely when asked if the players had side letters his answer should have been "I don't know".

Methinks lies are catching him out.

GoldCoastBhoy - there is no point in responding to threadbare, I have given up. He is incapable of understanding the simplest of postings. I just laugh at him now and let him wallow in his inane ramblings.

K-Dot. {Ed007's Note - Campbell Ogilvie, as Rangers company secretary until 2002, had administrative responsibilities. When he became general secretary that year he took on a legislative role. This means Ogilvie had primary responsibility to ensure Rangers complied with the necessary legislative requirements, including registering payments to players. If he didn't know what was going on, he wasn't doing his job. It's as simple as that K-Dot.}

Agree0 Disagree0

P.O.B - there is little point in comparing Rangers case to others as the evidence in all cases is different. Even where there are similarities, there are other areas that are not similar.

And the members of the FTT will be different to those deciding other cases.

Of course there are loopholes, that is the whole point of an EBT, it is a loophole to avoid paying tax.

One of the reasons this case will have ran so long is that it is not simply a case of the FTT finding out whether Rangers did or did not run al illegal EBT scheme.

The FTT must go through each EBT seperately and come to a judgement on each. I believe there were around 90 EBTs for players and staff.

That means looking at the evidence and making a judgement and writing up their findings on around 90 different cases, which will be time consuming.

However, even saying that, it is dragging on beyond what any of us ever thought.

You ask why HMRC appear to have been so generous to Rangers by letting this scenario run for so long. It is not HMRC that are letting it run for so long, they have nothing to do with it, it is the FTT.

In any event, I don't think we can read into the time delay being favourable or unfavourable to Rangers.

All I can base my judgement on at this time is the information that has been supplied by Mary Daly of the BBC and other media forms. Going by this evidence, and there is nothing that has come from elsewhere to contradict it, then Rangers are guilty of running illegal EBT schemes and in footballing terms are guilty of having side contracts for players that were not registered with the SFA.

K-Dot.

Agree1 Disagree0

Very well put Ed, as usual you capture events in a very professional and succinct way.

K-Dot.

Agree0 Disagree0

Stewart regan has stated that ogilvies job is safe as theyv found nothin dodgy against the guy , so obviously theyv looked at this stuff and so far found nothing , at the end of the day your all speculating , if it was as clear cut as k-dot and gold coast are makin out ogilvie wnuld have been slung right away am sure ,if rangers do get away with this a can see a few people pappin themselves off the top of their stands , tedbear

Agree1 Disagree3

Yes okay i'll accept your point regarding
individual cases, however HMRC came after RFC and deemed them guilty of tax evasion through the EBT scheme. They were in essence challenging their own guidelines which had been in existence for years. It became apparent through time that there were "legal" loopholes that needed closing and these were amended in 2003 and again in 2010.
Cambell Ogilvie left Rangers in 2005. While accepting Ed007's argument in his reply regarding C.O.'s legislative roll, there were still sufficient legal loopholes that remained and this evidently led to HMRC changing the guidelines again five years after he left.
It is widely accepted that RFC's financial transactions and accounts were managed by the Murray Group who charged Rangers £6million a year for this service. If as would seem logical, that all paperwork regarding EBT's was kept "In House" by MIH appointed accountants in the channel islands(Deepwater) then it is likely that CO was not aware of the precise details.
My point is that this matter cannot be as cut and dried as some would have us believe. And why this case which was supposed to reach a conclusion in October 2011 has dragged on so long.
This whole scenario is far too complex to make glib assumptions about the outcome. The latest guidelines issued by HMRC have been increased significantly,so much so that they could penalise and jeopardise ordinary company benefit schemes, such as bus pass loans, pension schemes, and benefit packages. This suggests to me that HMRC in their attempt to close all loopholes, have gone overboard, while also admitting that their guidelines were not as watertight as they thought.
P.O.B.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well put p.o.b. , glib asumptions , yes far too much of that goin on mate , tedbear

P.O.B.

Agree0 Disagree0

Aye the eds brand new mate , tedbear

Agree0 Disagree0

K-dot.....Mary Daly?lol

Jungle Bhoy.

Agree0 Disagree0

P.O.B. - a lot of sense in what you're saying mate.

The use of EBTs were of course legal, HMRC's contention is that Rangers did not operate the EBT scheme within the rules, and because they operated outside the rules, the use is therefore illegal and that is why HMRC have pursued them.

In fact, Paul Baxendale Walker, banned solicitor and current porn star, and the gentleman who advised Rangers on their EBT strategy has stated that Rangers did not operate the scheme as they were advised to do.

If Rangers had operated the EBT scheme as advised they would not be in the trouble they are in.

HMRC are therefore not challenging their own guidlelines as Rangers operated outside of these guidelines.

MIH did indeed operate the scheme for Rangers and Rangers did indeed pay MIH huge fees for this.

But the difficulty for Rangers is that the accounting for EBT payments is made in Rangers accounts and therefore Rangers are the ones responsible, not MIH. It is the Directors of Rangers FC who have signed off the accounts.

Good to see your posts P.O.B.
