I see Mrs E quite correctly stated that Celtic reduced season ticket prices by £100 this season, this is true for fans that pay their ticket in one instalment. I pay by 10 monthly instalments like many other hard up fans do. My monthly instalments last season were £48.40 which meant I paid £484 for my ticket, this season my monthly payments are £42.57 which means I pay £425.70 for my ticket, so the difference what I paid last season to this season is £58.30 less not £100. So this means( Zebra Finance who finance CFC season tickets. P.S Info for rich fecks who buy outright lol )have hiked up their interest rates hugely. My main point here is I think the club I love and have pumped my hard earned into for the last 16 years are probably in cahoots with zebra to offset the reduced revenue. Unfortunately it's the less well off fans who foot the bill. Stevie

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I have always thought it was a disgrace the club factor this out at these rates. The charges should be minimal on these transactions, only the costs incurred with a 1% mark up for the handler.Even better if the club themselves handled the repayments.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jan 2014 23:59:39
I know GJ it fecks me off that CFC could easily negotiate a better deal elsewhere for their less well off support . Why don't they as you said, run it themselves with an interest rate of say 2% then everybody's happy. If Zebra-CFC keep putting up interest rates I might have to switch to Wonga next season. Stevie

Agree0 Disagree0

Celtic did the right thing last year reducing season tickets by £100 but I still maintain they owe us £100 for the previous season when our main rivals disappeared initially.

Hi Briggs
You've got to give them some credit at least their making an effort to try and kill us off while, we just sit and hope nature takes its course to kill them off .
Alex Thompson took credit for facing upto the journo's ( I use that term loosely ), why has he or phill mac not went after, D Murray or C Ogilvie no digging there, or has everything else has been leaked to them, as far as I'm concerned these guys would put the boot into us just as quick if there was a book in it or kudos for them . just the glass half empty with me, I hate Celtics name to be tarnished in any way, not least by its own followers and it saddens me that we as a club are not going forward as one in what should be the best of times, anyhoo rant over hope I hav'nt offende anyone just had to get it off my chest g/nite . The only people who think they are the same club are rangers fans every other club in Scotland know this we don't need to go after them as they do a great job in embarrassing themselves along with their leader super salary lol

Rangers fans are going on about them and it is there right, but what they aren't thinking about is Rangers purchased the albion car park off the council for £1 and also purchased the land around ibrox for very little also they got the same benifits or even better than celtic did.

Gregory Campbell DUP MP, also member of The Free Presbyterian Church, (something similar to Westboro Baptists) The Orange Order and surprise surprise a Sevco fan, seems to be one of the persons involved in this .
Greg is usually quick to be interviewed on local radio when comments are required on CFC fan behaviour but is notoriously hard to contact when similar comments are required about the famous TRFC.
When our own manager was under constant threat and indeed attacked the silence was deafening .One would have thought a public rep and ex culture art and leisure minister would have been vocal in his support for an ex player and indeed Captain of his beloved Northern Ireland football team, not at all, Neil and a large section of Ireland's Northern community are scorned upon by Greg and his likes .
No one should be surprised by the intervention of such a dinosaurs into the affairs of CFC.

Ed do you know if there is genuine interest in Ings and Vaughan, I see both Burnley and Huddersfield have signed strikers today.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - There was strong interest in Vaughan in the summer but the player wasn't keen on moving to Scotland, the only plus point for him was the attraction of CL football. Ings will more than likely move to an EPL team but at a guess that will more than likely be in the summer.}

Hamilton bhoy, re your signings post, of the players you named 10 where freebies, 9 loans, 3 bosmans, money out approx. 23million money in approx. 20 million, all the worst of the frees , loans away so 21 players still active for approx. 3 million pound, is this not good? by the way who is mcdade,,,, deep river bhoy

Lennon spent £10.2m his first season, bringing in £15.9m – largely down to £9.5m brought in for McGeady. Second season he spent £3.1m, brought in £2.65m. Last season he spent £3.9m, bringing in £8m. Then this season he spent £11.2m when we raked in £20.5m. So all in he’s brought in £47.05m but only spent £28.4m – can you not see what’s happening here? Celtic only spend half what they bring in. That’s not a big team mentality, that’s a wee feeder/selling club mentality. Sell our best players first then spend a few bob on these “project” players.

Ed, I know you are a fan of Max Clayton and (correct me if I am wrong) his contract expires at the end of the season. Meaning we could approach him on a bosnan whereas English clubs would have to wait till the end of the season. Do you think he would come to Celtic or wait for a big English club to come in for him?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Clayton is out injured for the rest of the season, he fractured his ankle in November but you're right about his contract expiring in June.}

Not Celtic related, just a reminder that some clubs still recognise "football without fans is nothing".

FC Bayern have announced that they intend in subsidising the price of their fans' match tickets for the upcoming Champions League last 16 first leg against Arsenal as a "small thank you for the great support" the club has received in the past 12 months.

Instead of having to shell out E75 (£62) for a seat at the Emirates, Bayern are reducing the cost to E45 (£37) despite having 18,000 fans already apply for the 2, 974 tickets that are available for the game - basically they're spending around E90k from the club coffers to knock the price down for their fans who couldn't believe the price of English football!

thats great to see a club recognizing there supporters and trying to help them out. just look at the end of most if not all bundesliga games the team go over to the fans and show a bit of gratitude for being there. definately the best league in the world

well done bayern

Agree0 Disagree0

We did get £100 off the price of our Season tickets this season as well HB.

German Clubs can afford to keep prices lower. Like Celtic though, its a fantastic sentiment and recognition that fans are the heartbeat of any Club.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mrs E, agreed that the £100 off was a fantastic gesture. My dig was more at Arsenal, and other British clubs, than Celtic though. The fact they expect fans to pay between £25-125 for a match ticket, that's excluding hospitality, is disgusting!

Agree0 Disagree0

Big clubs should ALL start behaving like big clubs.Fantastic gesture.

Agree0 Disagree0

The attendances at German top class football are phenomenal and the atmosphere is superb I know Germany is a massive and wealthy country, but I remember in going to games in Scotland in the 60's and 70's and the grounds were a lot fuller before all-seater and wonder is cheaper standing areas would help boost Scottish attendances? Either that or clubs face hard facts and there are a few mergers of smaller clubs.
40odd clubs is far too many to survive - ask Sevco, Gretna, Hearts etc etc.

JJ

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm a very strong believer that cheaper Safe Standing areas in Scotland would bring the attendances up slightly, as well as inject much needed atmosphere in to Scottish grounds again. Also hear what you're saying about mergers JJ, was looking at the size of town's and cities with professional football teams and it surprised me how many come from town's of 15,000 or less:

Annan – 8, 480
Berwick (upon Tweed) – 11, 665
Brechin – 7, 199
Cowdenbeath – 11, 640
East Fife (Methil) – 11,000
Forfar – 13, 206
Montrose – 10, 845
Ross County (Dingwall) – 5, 491
Stenhousemuir – 10, 190
Stranraer – 10, 851

Is it any wonder why attendances don't make for great reading?

On the other hand though, look at clubs like Accies (Hamilton: 48, 546), Albion Rovers (Coatbridge: 41, 170), Ayr (46, 050), Morton (Greenock: 45, 467), Raith (Kirkcaldy: 49, 560), St Midden (Paisley: 74, 170) who struggle to get more than a few thousand for a big league or cup game!

Morton can also draw on the populations of Gourock and Port Glasgow. However thousands support celtic and the zombies. In the sixties Hal Stewart had Morton buzzing for a few years and the ground was often full. One thing he discovered was that danish players had to be amateur to play for Denmark. He went about signing them up and turning them professional and then selling them on. Good for both. At one time Morton had 5 in the team. It's that sort of ingenuity that's needed now. People will turn up to watch their local team for derbies for instance. We need a competition which caters for that. This league system is boring for many.

Aftenoon EDs . first time poster daily reader. Is there any chance of celtic signing young ryan guald from dundee united? Would love to see more scots in the team ideally GMS and Russel - people who know what it means to wear green and white hoops I personally believe we should have broke the bank for Rhodes last season

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Welcome to the site, mate. Personally I don't think we will see Gauld in the Hoops any time in the foreseeable future. Aston Villa, Arsenal, Liverpool, Man Utd, Stoke, Spurs, Cardiff, Swansea and Barca have all had scouts watching him.
Dundee Utd were expecting an offer from a top half EPL team in January, but it would have to be huge to make them consider selling the player during this window. I'm not sure who the team is that they were expecting an offer from but it wasn't Man Utd as far as I know.}

In an ideal world, we all want to see money spent on new signings. But tbh, I'm quite reluctant for Lennon to be given any more money to spend on new players if he's not going to give them a chance. Since 2010, he's signed:

Mulgrew, Cha, Ledley, Murphy, Juarez, Hooper, Kayal, Majstorovic, Izzy, Forster, Stokes, Feely, Kapo, Ljungberg, Watt, Commons, Wilson, Matthews, McGeouch, Wanyama, Bangura, El Kaddouri, Blackman, Lustig, Ibrahim, Brozek, Ambrose, Miku, Kamenar, Lassad, Gershon, Rogic, Noring, McCade, Amido, Virgil, Mouyoukolo, Boerrigter, Biton, Pukki, Oberschmidt + Fridjonsson.

42 players in three and a half years. Wanyama, Hooper + Wilson went for a tidy profit - circa £20m. Mulgrew, Ledley, Izzy, Forster, Stokes, Commons, Matthews, Lustig + Ambrose are all an integral part of Lennon's team plans. But looking at that list there's a lot who weren't given a chance or were complete flops!

Thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

@hamiltonboy I totally agree with you. For every 1 good player lennon has signed, there is about 4 duds. Personally I have never been convinced by Lennon. I guarantee you if the rotten mob were still in league, lennon would of got his books a long time ago. Point i'm making is, if he can't be trusted to buy a decent quality. he shouldn't be manager

KP1888

Agree0 Disagree0

The majority off those players done us a turn, hooper, wanyama, izzy, kayal, ambrose, vvd, wilson, commons, mulgrew, foster are quality players, in my opinion I think lennys done a good job, just think of some of the dross we had pre martin oneil, I rest my case

Agree0 Disagree0

My mates and I have talked about this and there is a real problem with a number of new players getting into the team - or even getting a game.
I don't know if the pressure of being red hot favourites in Scotland in recent years had put added pressure on NL to stick with his apparent best 11? As we are on a hiding to nothing in a one-horse race and have came up short in a few cups already.
We assume the decision to sign players is 100% the manager's so has NL's judgement been misguided?
Obviously it is very difficult to attract quality to Scotland in the first place, so when we do sign good potential, it is important to give them regular opportunities and experience.

There are too many that either have not been given a chance or seem to be inadequate to start with?
There are also players at Celtic who are favoured by the manager, but that again is common at any club.
Whatever the case we are developing and signing too much young talent - only for them to be eventually farmed out or released without success.
Most managers make some mistakes with signings that don't work out, but going by your list (and I don't know if there are more), we seem to rely on a solid nucleus of established players.
This window may be a very important for NL as we prepare for another title assault and CL qualifiers?

JJ

Agree0 Disagree0

This is obviously my opinion, feel free to disagree with it. After all, that's the purpose of sites like this, to debate our difference in an adult-like manner.

Cha - average, Murphy - dross, Juarez - dross, Majstorovic - solid, Feely - never played, Kapo - dross, Ljungberg - dross, Watt - jury out still, McGeouch - never plays, Bangura - dross, El Kaddouri - dross, Blackman - never played, Ibrahim - never played, Brozek - dross, Miku - dross, Kamenar - never played, Lassad - decent at best, Gershon - decent in few appearances, Rogic - never plays, Noring - never played, McCade - never played, Amido – limited chances, Virgil – very talented, Mouyokolo - injury prone, Boerrigter - injury prone, Biton – limited chances, Pukki – jury out, Oberschmidt – development squad loanee.

Think it's unfair to judge the 7 summer signings or the new bhoy from Iceland until they have an entire season under their belt. As for the other 34, I'd say that's a pretty poor return - 9 still here and very much part of Lennon's plans; 3 sold on for top dollar; 8 I'd say were dross; 8 never played (or play still); 4 who I’d say the jury are still out on or were/are decent. That’s 12 success stories out 34 signings. So for every success story, we have three Kapo’s or Ljungberg’s?

Agree0 Disagree0

Great post HB. I think Lenny might be taking John Park's word on a lot of them.Remember the Ross County cup defeat? It was Park Lenny had beside him when it was all going to sh*t so he obviously respects his opinion. Maybe Park has assumed a director of football role on the quiet?

Well that was a really decent workout for some players last night, and an excellent result into the bargain. I was really pleased for Pukki and Balde, especially after being labelled 'joke players' by radio snydes Dellahunt last week.

It seems that these two players have become something of a target for some. This despite most Celtic fans seeing something in them. Pukki has always impressed me with his work rate and link play but it was clear to see he was not a main striker.Last night, playing off a proper target he looked sharp and really up for it.I thought he took his goal exceptionally well, right into the bottom corner from 20 yards.

Balde too was like a different player. He looked a lot more like a front player, he put himself about well, and his goal was a peach this will have done him the world of good.Even allowing for the opposition, which to be fair was not Barca, it would be churlish to nit pick as the Turks put plenty into the game.It will be interesting to see these two paired, with Commons just behind, in an SPFL match. I think this might work very well and give Commons the chance to shoot from bounce off's from both players.

Lastly, Joe Ledley. As a fan of his I would be disappointed if he left but not broken hearted as I think Biton has the makings of becoming a big player for us. We have to assume Joe will be leaving as there is no word from his representatives who were here on Tuesday, so should he be starting ahead of Biton? For me no.Time to rebuild and move on.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally agree GJ on all of your points, pukki and biton for me were the standouts, the countless times pukki tracked back was brilliant and big biton the way he just slotted into the covering role when vvd or efe went on a run was good as it looked so natural to him, people might say the competition wasn't there but this team are no mugs they just won their Europa group without losing a game in it.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think last night Pukki done enough to make me having second thoughts about him. He whizzed about the park like nobodies business until he was subbed. Balde really does look like a rough edged player, clumbsy touches at times but certainly knows where the back of the net is - something Stokes seems to have forgotten in the past few months. Ledley + Sammy were two players I always spoke highly of, but I think both shouldn't see first team football until they sign with us, or elsewhere. Biton's passing is bang on the money. I think a run in the team could change a lot of opinions on the summer signings. Mouyokolo is a flop outright, Boerrigter has a chance to prove his fitness but I have my doubts he will. The other 5 could have a place at this club though.

Agree0 Disagree0

@HB: I think that big Mouyokolo might do as well mate.Seemed to me he is a big tough no nonsense CB in the Bobo mould. Against some of the more physical CF's in our game he could be a weapon.

Agree0 Disagree0

No doubting that GJ, just can't see him staying fit long enough to prove it. Played two full games for us, one in the SPFL - and the other in Kazakhstan, then required Achilles tendon surgery which is ruling him out until March or April. Previous to signing with us he's had issues with a ruptured cruciate ligament which meant he only played about 10 games in 3 years! Same goes for Boerrigter. He had a history of back problems that kept him out for about 8 months a couple of years ago. Someone scouted these two guys and thought they were worth taking a chance on, whoever it was, someone needs to have a wee word in their ear.

OK Ed, I have to admit that I was approached by a representative of a Middle Eastern billionaire, Sheik Mahaun, who was offering me way over the normal price for my back garden. He sponsors a couple or three Celtic players and was looking for an exclusive area where they could practise their keepie-ups and 3 n' oot. (he many of you remember that game?). If I'm not on the site for a while it's because I've had to flee the country to avoid all those top journalists from DR, Sun, Dandy, Beano and Twinkle.
I was all for the deal but, apparently,
