When Boyata is fit he is a great defender. When he is returning from a lay off he is always a bit dodgy and this seems to be what people remember. He’s been pretty solid for months now. I’d keep him 100%.

Kev sometimes I feel you just post replies for the sake of it. I can’ only think of one mistake he has made recently at any level. If boyata had 4 years on a contract I recon he’s easily a 20m defender. He’s an absolute colossus. Even the very best defenders can have an off moment in a game. We will sorely miss him when he leaves. Luckily Ajer is looking better as the weeks go on. He’s playing like a fires been lit in his loins 🔥.

You could say, if you were of that opinion, that Boyata, by his behaviour, at the time of the game in Greece, is the reason we went out of the champions League, or am I getting mixed up, weren't these pages filled with posters calling him all the names under the sun, for disloyalty and such like, calling for him to train with the kids and never darken the first teams door again, the kind of abuse unheard of, until, well., till just now with Brendan, or maybe I am getting mixed up .

PJ he can pass 5 yards most the time and was badly at fault for hearts goal along with ajer and Bain.
He was also sleeping for more than one of the Valencia goals.

Scott brown played poorly against Valencia. He not good enough either? The type of quality player you want is far beyond celtics budgets or allure. We will never be able to replace Boyata with someone with similar attributes or quality unless it’s a loan. My opinion of course. As I said a boyata with 2-3 years on a contract right now is worth 20 million from Celtic 25-35 in England.

Kev83 I agree it's better to play out from the back but one way to avoid silly mistakes is to hoof it when necessary instead of feeling thaat you have to make a pass especially when the defence is under pressure as it gives them time to regroup.

We could afford it, but the player would need to be something special. I mean really special. Not a gamble, a stick on success like pulling out all the stops to keep Henrik on that kind of money. Not willing to fling 40k wages around for the likes of Bojan, just my opinion tho.

Does anyone think we don't actually need new defenders and our issue is actually Gordon?
Defenders seem to lack confidence in Gordon there was a few examples yday one where boyata kicked it out when gordon was running out and another benkovic tackled rather than letting gordon come out.
Dont get me wrong Gordon is a good goalkeeper and has done well for us.
It grates on me a little that he flaps the ball out and that he kicks it to the other team quite a lot.
I just feel if we got a new goalkeeper it would give the defenders but more confidence.

Preaching to the choir here. The guy is done and should have been replaced last summer; however, BR doesn't seem confident enough in Bain to drop him for any length of games.
His shot-stopping from dead-ahead has never been a problem, but his positioning, speed of reaction and distribution are all dodgy at best.

Anybody following the guys on loan?
Christie - Should be given a season at Celtic next year and if it doesn't work out let him move on.
Allan - Hibs seems a good fit for him should make his move perm.
Benyu - hasn't started since Jan for Oldham, was he injured?
Sviachenko - Seems to be playing well but i feel his time is up at Celtic.
Ralston - has jumped on the dundee utd ship who have been a bit like the titanic but he is getting minutes under his belt.
Hazard - 5 cleansheets in 12 appearances, looks to have a big future ahead of him.
Morgan - been on fire in championship hopefully hit the ground running in pre season.
Ciftci - no comment.

I have watched McGinn against us and honestly, can't see what all the fuss is about. He would not get a game before any of the current midfield players yesterday - or Armstrong and if Rogic and Armstrong do leave, I think he would have to step up a level or two to appreciate what is expected at Celtic - as opposed to others.

We need to be careful who we let go or sell. Two Celtic players were amongst the best players on the field yesterday . Ambrose and Mc Geoch .
Although I noticed Ambrose wasn't even Booked yesterday when he jumped two footed into one of ours, if he had been wearing a Celtic shirt, he would have been gone .
Mc Clean also did the dirt re time . 5 subs 2.mins 30 sec . Injury to two Hibs players and waiting almost a min to get sub on 3 mins in total . Another injury 1 min . When 5 mins added sign went up Mc Ginn went down injured . Hibs didn't send anyone on as he would have had to step off pitch . He was down 55 secs and ref played 5 secs over 5 mins . Mc Clean didn't cost us the match, but he wasn't fair or impartial.

My opinion is we'll regret not talk g mcginn he's strong as an ox can pass can score and has a great engine and he's now an international which gives him more worth . hope this doesn't come back to haunt us.
{Ed007's Note - That's twice this season that McGinn has totally bossed our midfield, once at home without Brown and yesterday with Brown in there and he also put in a great shift and held his own in the 2-2 draw at Easter Road too.
If the Club and Rodgers are serious about buying the best young Scottish players it would be a huge mistake to not at least try to sign McGinn. He's already a better player than Brown was at the same age, he's an ideal replacement for Armstrong and the lad would walk to Celtic Park to sign for us.}

The real problem in our defence is jack hendry who is totally out of his depth and a total liability. I've always said Boyata is like the litte brother of Ambrose. His system goes into shock when he receives the ball in tight areas and I believe both rangers chances were players running off Boyata inside the box. It's no coincidence that whenever the other teams have a chance the camera always shows Boyata after it. He is shocking.

Couldn’t agree more mate! Did u see him late on in the 2nd half against Hibs when the boy ran at him and he literally just fell on his face! This isn’t me just picking a player out for dogs abuse for the sake of it by the way! This has been going on since he joined us! We need two CB’s and a right back who aren’t projects or just not good enough. When will the club see what everyone else can. We give teams a chance because our central defence is farcical too often.
I think Lustig has struggled as time catches up with him. So another RB is a must, I’m not at all convinced by young Ralston but he should get a chance in games to come on for whoever we get as first choice and if he’s as good as some on here think he will make it his own. We can’t just hope he will. We need a top right back first.
The absolute horsing’s in the CL and recent performance by our defence must show Brendan he needs to buy better.
Hendry is no better than what we already have and all of them are nowhere near what we actually need. That’s just a fact that is reinforced with every single game we play.

Firstly - we need to stop talk about Roberts coming back or missing we need to move on.
Secondly - last night was disappointing but we are still in it, under Delia would have lost that game.
Thirdly - we did try for a striker in Solanke but he chose Liverpool, Brendan isn't going to sign anyone just for the craic, he wants the right player and i fully agree with that approach!
