Always going to be tough match despite winning the home tie 5 - 0. Astana haven't lost a home European tie in 15 games but we're there in the group stages again. My prediction for Thursday's draw.

Roma

First time post. Question. Is there still a chance we can enter Pot 3 in the group stages providing there isn't a total collapse over there next week?

Aye mate if one of Liverpool Sevilla Napoli or Olympiacos go out we move up to pot 3! Our best chance is the Greeks, they scraped a 2-1 last nite and need to go to Croatia next week! Fingers crossed!

If we get into Pot 3 we'll still end up getting somebody like RB Leipzig with our luck in these draws!

What's the befit of pot 3? Does that mean we can be in a group without all the big gun's?

Pot 3 allows us to potentially have a better draw, pot 1 and 2 are your CL regulars pot 3 is still full of good teams like Liverpool and pot 4 is the supposedly weaker teams from smaller countries so pot 3 gives us a shout at an easier group. I don't mind either way I think I e could surprise a lot of teams this year, I just hope For a different mix from Man Utd and Barca!

Pot 3 gives us a greater chance of missing an EPL team an am fed up with that "Battle o Britain build up keek"
Can follow both trains of thought take the glamour and someone different
Take the easiest group and try and make what is a think our ceiling last 16 in CL (Y)

Pot 3 gives us 2 games againdt the supposidly weaker pot 4 opposition. Should make it easier to get 6 points off them. Then you are in the mix for last 16 or at worse by finishing 3rd drop into the Europa after christmas.
{Ed007's Note - Would you fancy us taking 6 points off RB Leipzig who are already in Pot 4 and could be joined by Feyenoord, would we be able to win away to either of those teams?}

Ed. yes. Why wouldn't we win, when we are playing a good attacking style of football. We must respect all the Teams in the Group stages. but not be overawed with past histories of these Clubs.
{Ed007's Note - RB Leipzig were only founded in 2009 and came 2nd in the Bundesliga last season in their debut season. If we get into Pot 3 drawing them from Pot 4 would be a nightmare for us. Honestly, go by their squad they should be in Pot 1 or 2 but their coefficient is awful because this is their European debut.}

I can see us doing well this year in the CL when we sort out the RW, LB and a centre forward to complete the squad. You can't take it that we are going to take 6pts of any opposition but I can see us beating teams away this year of good opposition. I think the tide is turning and old stats don't count for the current regime!
{Ed007's Note - There's no shame in taking a trouncing off Barca but 7-0 was a bit much. The draw away to City was a great result and so was the Monchengladbach draw in Germany but we let ourselves down at home against them, over the two legs they looked pretty average.}

I'm expecting us to learn from last year and show the progression in Europe, we took 2 Pts of city which was progress, really feel we are close to going on a CL push the next few years we are a real team and that can over come a lot, rather than throwing money at it!
