I watched the game back last night. One thing that interested me was Bains save when Modelles was one v one. I never realised just how good that save was! If you watch closely Morelles actually does everything right. He does what many top strikers would do, he gives the eye and makes to place into the far corner then curled his foot round it and puts it into the near corner. Unfortunately for him Bain stood his ground, wasn't suckered in and second gueses him. It should have been a goal but for a brilliant piece of goalkeeping. 1-0 to the onload goalie v the 27 million rated striker!

Do you know how close Patrick Roberts is to starting? How long has he been in full training and has he had many development games?

Macelt

1.) 09 Mar 2018 23:20:07
Am not sure we will see loads of Roberts the rest of the season for a couple of reasons.
1 Forrests form
2 he's gone in about 10 games time so manger might consintrate on players that will be here next season.

2.) 10 Mar 2018 11:23:29
Even before his injury, I thought Forrest was always favourite to start ahead of Roberts; as BR seems to prefer his style and the fact he is a permanent feature. It's disappointing for me, as after last season, I saw Roberts as a possible long term addition and enjoyed his flair, trickery and eye for very special goals - and assists.

3.) 10 Mar 2018 13:38:54
OAB I think Forrest was in better form before Roberts got injured and that's why he was being preferred to Roberts.
Forrest was in really good form before Roberts came back and got dropped unfairly IMO.
Then he came back in and picked up where he left off.
Forrest deserves to keep the jersey for me.

4.) 10 Mar 2018 20:14:25
Nobody in their right mind would leave forrest out just now.

Is anyone else concerned about our set plays? It is almost double figures each week for corners yet I can't remember the last time we scored from one. And Nchamp getting all the freekicks? We are as ytwell just handing the ball back to the goalkeeper. Having one guy in the squad who can take a corner and free kick at this level is pretty worrying.

when he's injured or not picked we have nothing. I did notice KT was given a shot at the corners yesterday and there was a bit more quality in the corners. But who else can take a free kick? On a side note shooting is the part of his game where Nchamp really needs to improve. He has a good all round game, a good engine and he gets himself into some great positions to shoot, then delivers a pass back or something well of target. Would love to see stats on how many goals we have scored over the last 50 or 100 corners though.

Ntchams set play a are woeful and Sinclair no much better.

2.) 04 Mar 2018 17:42:32
We are terrible at corners, free kicks and thrown ins. I remember when MON was boss and almost every corner was a goal. Even Lennon and WGS made us threats from set pieces and used them well in Europe.

Doesn’t seem like Brendan focuses on them in training as they reall are woeful. The delivery is rotten but even when it is a decent ball into the box we don’t attack the six yard box.

3.) 04 Mar 2018 18:29:57
Whatever oor opinions on big boyata we miss him in the opposition box.

4.) 04 Mar 2018 22:57:30
It's one (the only) thing a celtic tv America would be half decent at. Rain Man type interpretation, facts and figures for any type of outcome. Commentary would be more irritating granted (Shouting obviously) "KT BURSTING INTO AN OFFENSIVE POSITION COVERING MORE THAN 30 YARDS INTO THE FINAL 1/ 4 FOR THE 100TH TIME THIS FALL TOM" "RIGHT YOU ARE JERRY"
and so on

Wonder where we sit in the spl with corner or set play goals over the last few years? Higher than most I'd guess although the benchmark isn't too high which is no excuse. The standard most of the time from corners has been abysmal when we have a one up top and our 2nd choice striker is the only guy that can hit them. I hope for nothing when we get a corner now. I fear a **** up and a counter attack.

5.) 05 Mar 2018 10:41:17
Brendan hasn't had an opportunity to work on attacking and defending corners and free kicks and throw ins . All season Celtic have played two games a week, which hardly gives an opportunity to prepare for the next opponents and certainly not set plays .

I think your memory of MON's team is a bit sentimental as although they may have a better scoring rate from set pieces than we currently have, they were very far from scoring from every set play .
MON 's team were full of many very tall players and others like Larsson who were exceptional in the air . We don't have as many tall players.

6.) 05 Mar 2018 10:48:50
Been saying for a while now that our set plays are shocking! Ntcham, Sinclair are terrible and KT wasn’t much better on Saturday! I’ve lost count how many times we hit the first man from set plays! It’s like corners are an inconvenience to us by the way! Poor delivery and absolutely no aggression to get to the ball when it does make it!

How I used to love seeing Alan Thompson on a corner, with Balde, Mjalby, Sutton and Hartson all breaking there neck to get on the end of it! On Saturday we had 3 6 foot plus defenders in the box and we rarely managed to give them anything to go for in the box! I know Brendan is all for the passing game but when your having 12 corners in a match and barely getting an attempt on target from any of them then something has to be done!

7.) 05 Mar 2018 16:44:28
Surely attacking and defending corners/ practicing set plays is a key aspect of preparing for any opposition? And in terms of not having time for improving that side of things-what about our winter break? Got to admit that since Griff got injured our dead ball options have taken a knock and Boyata was a great for a header on a corner but that aside, it would be good to see us making more of our corners in particular.

8.) 05 Mar 2018 18:18:42
I’d have liked wee Paddy to have got half an hour against Morton but i’m sure he could make a difference against them on Sunday off the bench!

9.) 05 Mar 2018 22:59:29
I am sure that Brendan Rodgers doesn't have his first team practising corners and set pieces just because he wants to annoy the supporters . It's more likely that B R feels that with the limited time available he has other aspects that he feels more important to work on .
Results have proven that Brendan hasn't done too badly and his coaching has got us good domestic results only 2 losses in approx 75 games.

Ralston got a game with the development squad, if he plays at the weekend that's 2 games under his belt before the European the. Is that enough after such a long time out? And do you think BR is considering him or will he go with Hendry or Ajer at RB? Or will he do neither aand stick with 352? That's the big decision I think.

Macelt

1.) 07 Feb 2018 08:13:08
Think we need to go with the 352 put our best performance in a long time under that formation playing the 2 strikers.

2.) 07 Feb 2018 11:56:50
I hate 3 at the back. We het caught out with diagonal balls all time. Use to happen to oneils teams in Europe a lot.

{Ed007's Note - It happened at Kilmarnock on Saturday, Kev with the ball to Jordan Jones.}

3.) 07 Feb 2018 12:22:20
Exactly ed.
Løvenkrands loved it when we played it and I mind our fans going nuts about it.
We oneil switched agathe to RB Løvenkrands never kicked a ball against Celtic again.
Like I said above teams in Europe use to target it all the time.

{Ed007's Note - It's the standard way to play against a 3 man defence.}

4.) 07 Feb 2018 17:54:19
If i’m being honest I don’t get the hype about young Ralston, I know he hasn’t played many first team games but he hasn’t done anything of great note in the few that he has, he is no Kieran Tierney, he will probably get better with experience, I don’t think throwing him into the Zenit game is the answer, if Lustig is fit he is the best and most experienced right back at the club despite having a couple of disappointing games recently .

I'm quite happy going into the second half of the season. We have been really struggling for a bit of creativity in the final third. we now have a potentially new and improved (3) in the attack mid section. Mousonda, Rogic, Roberts sounds seriously exciting to me and rogic and Roberts should be back soon.

Not nice to see griff injured by I think it will be the catalyst for Dembele to return to form. Nchamp looks better every time I see him and the defence can only improve with Lustig and Gorden not playing. Add in hopefully some quality and experience at the back when comper is fit and I think we will have a great second half of the season. sorry for all the positivity guys! I'm new take it easy on me!

Macelt

1.) 02 Feb 2018 12:01:12
Lustig has been one of our best defenders for years and I am sure once he gets over this injury he will again star for us Sweden .
Gordon has been first class for us, apart from clearing and passing which has gone astray from time to time . This has been the fault of defenders and midfielders who haven't made enough space for themselves hence creating problems.

2.) 02 Feb 2018 15:04:31
You just made the perfect case why we need better defenders now. How do you squat that with your nothing to see, its all fine, rogers will improve him stance.

If it isn't Gordon's fault that he has too many passes to make because of failures in the defence and the midfield then what's your argument forgot addressing that?

As for Lustig? we love the big guy but he has lost a yard and his distribution has slumped. It may well be all done to his injury, but, can we take the chance? Can we all just say a prayer and cross fingers, or do we bring someone in to mitigate against the possibility that Lustig is getting too old to deal with the challenges?

If Lustig returns to top form then we have adequate cover at the very least. doing nothing means we are left hoping with nothing to put in place should that hope prove ill conceived.

If you were to ask the support what area of the field needs the most attention it wold be the defence, a keeper and the need for a creative midfielder.

we have sorted one of those. Comparre is unavailable for Europe and Hendry might not be ready to even be fielded in the SPFL. We have brought in a goalie who mightn't be able to challenge Dorus, we are not convinceded by Dorus yet the player brought in as cover probably isn't as good as he is. How is that a wise move either?

If Rogers plays Hendry from the start tomorrow, then it sends a signal that he thinks he has acquired the "quality" he was talking about. If he doesn't then Hendry is a project.

Apart from yourself, how many fans think at this stage the answer to our defensive problems should be addressed with a project?

Does anyone know how long Marshall has on his contract and a ball park figure of how much he would cost? Cheers.

Macelt

1.) 29 Jan 2018 20:25:42
According to transfermarkt website it says he is out of contract on 30.06.2019.

Interesting team. kt and Forrest wing backs three defence minded midfielders. Two strikers! definitely a change of tactics from the 4-0 drubbing. Time will tell.

I think he will be on the bench Peter. A bit like Sinclair in his first start against them. I will be happy if he has the same impact as Sinclair had on his debut and beyond.
