Ed

Any truth in the Caulker rumours or do you think it's just paper talk?

To be honest if we signed him and he could keep his head straight it could turn out to be a master stroke, big if though with his off field issues.

CeltStu

{Ed007's Note - It would make sense with Boyata's injury.}

1.) 13 Jul 2017 15:55:14
could be another sinky or sutton type signing. someone with a point to prove.

2.) 13 Jul 2017 15:55:28
Loan would be no good. It take the gamble tho. Think he a decent player. Tho wages probably be an issue. Any idea what he on at qpr?

3.) 13 Jul 2017 15:58:58
I think he would be a good signing. He's always been on the brink of a big move, issues with gambling and depression. Although joining the happiest football club in the world would solve that HH.

4.) 13 Jul 2017 16:06:16
I would be happy with Caulker. Possible loan with option to buy?

5.) 13 Jul 2017 16:31:47
He has a year left so we wouldn't need an option to buy would we? Benny, supposedly he's on 45k a week.

6.) 13 Jul 2017 16:42:46
He's a decent player when his head's right.

7.) 13 Jul 2017 16:48:19
He's only got a year left and I don't think QPR would want a massive fee! Always thought he was a good defender, but as has been mentioned he's had a lot of problems off the pitch! Still only mid 20s but and Brendan's worked with him before! Could turn out to be a good move.

8.) 13 Jul 2017 17:45:07
I've seen 30k a week quoted, would probably have to take a drop on that but like everyone is saying, worth a punt.

9.) 13 Jul 2017 17:46:01
Did BR not take him to swansea on loan from spurs? Played for BR before?

10.) 14 Jul 2017 01:34:27
Read an interview with the boy from the guardian, seems the boy is on the straight and narrow now, think he would be a great signing and think signing for us would be great for the boy as well, hope we can pull it off .

Ed any truth in the Tyler Blackett rumour? If it is true I think would be a great signing.

I heard a loan with a view to permanent deal if goes well.

CeltStu

{Ed007's Note - There's some minor details to be ironed out but it looks like he will be coming.}

1.) 28 Aug 2015 20:40:00
What position does this bhoy play is he any good

{Ed007's Note - He can play as a LB or as a CB and from what I've seen he's decent enough, Utd renewed his deal last season and feel he will be better served getting more regular football elsewhere this season. I'm thinking he'll be competing for the LB slot.
I said a while back if we couldn't persuade Marcel Halstenberg to leave St Pauli I expected a LB to come in on loan and we'll try again for Halstenberg on a pre-contract in January.
I'd can only guess that the CL exit helped make Halstenberg's decision more final hence the move for Blackett.}

2.) 28 Aug 2015 20:45:14
would be good if there is a view of a permanent deal if all goes well

3.) 28 Aug 2015 20:47:07
If we are looking for a centre half we could do worse than approach Liverpool about signing Tiago Ilori on loan with view to a permanent transfer , he is a 22 year old , 6'3 Portugese U21 international who started out at Sporting Lisbon and since joined Liverpool he has had loan spells at Bordeaux .

4.) 28 Aug 2015 20:50:28
Decent signing. Would have loved to have seen us sign Mcnair as he is a much better prospect but again the inexperience in our backline will likely cost but let's hope for the best as this europa league group will not be easy. HH

5.) 28 Aug 2015 21:08:00
Ed been reading a few websites says we are trying to involve if all partys are happy end of season we will have the option to buy this lad for 4 million

{Ed007's Note - We might get an option but it's never going to happen. Have we ever taken up an option on a loan player, especially at £4 million?}

6.) 28 Aug 2015 21:11:32
I'm not inspired by this supposedly there's a 4 mil fee if we want to sign him in the summer we all know that won't happen have you heard of us going for anyone else ed

7.) 29 Aug 2015 01:35:01
From what I've seen of the boy he is a pretty good defender but not very good going forward. That makes me think he is being brought in as van Dijk's replacement at centre back rather than for competition to Izzy

{Ed007's Note - I thought that but even losing VVD we've got plenty of bodies, if not quality, in the CB. I still say Lustig should have been moved in there for his own long term well being - and he's spoken about wanting to move into the centre to protect his hip. We've got Ambrose, Boyata, Mulgrew and Eoghan O'Connell to play in the CB roles, Lustig should have been moved into the middle to use his experience in arranging the defence.
Anyhoo I'm babbling but that's why I was think Blackett would more for LB, we're gettting over run by CBs and average MF's and stil no sign of a striker. A striker on loan may I add, another cheap option.}

8.) 29 Aug 2015 14:30:50
Why does O'Connell hardly ever start? He has been on our bench for the last 2/3 years.

Is he just there to make up the numbers?

9.) 29 Aug 2015 20:03:08
007: Love the idea of Lustig taking that role. He's a smashing defender and I was really upset to see him in tears at the prospects of another lengthy layoff and absence from the hoops first 11. I must say I was chagrined to see them let Matthews away so cheaply too, but Lustig is the real deal.

{Ed007's Note - I just can't understand it, unless the plan was to get Europe sorted and if/when VVD left move Lustig over. The fact the player himself has said he sees his long term future playing as a CB for his own health and the the sake of his hip.}

Ed, long time no post. I hope you are well.

Have you heard anything on Dan Petrescu being mentioned for the job? I have seen a lot of mentions on him being linked with us but only in the foreign media.

I would still prefer Oscar Garcia who has exactly the right philosiphy Celtic need right now, develop youth playing attractive football. That'll do for me.

CeltStu

{Ed007's Note - I'm good thanks Stu. It just seems to be some Russian paper running the Petrescu link, I wouldn't pay it too much attention.}

So Lennon confirms on tv that no one from the club has spoke to him about replacing Ronnie.

I'm hoping they continue not to talk to him.

You and me both mate. Nothing against him, just think he's had his time and we need freshening up - big time.

Thought McCann was a dreadful advert for scottish football ( pinnacle event ) this afternoon. The exchange with mulgrew was quite something and his general demeanour was a sight to behold. This is SKY. This was champions day. This was a day to celebrate winning and as a co anchor he was an absolute embarrassment

Shame on SKY for permitting it.

Get rid of commons and Forrest, I'm going to go up the wall if the new man comes in and we get this clean slate pi$$.

Commons has had some great memories but after this year I never want to see him in the hoops again.

Forrest is just rotten.

Efe gives his all but is a liability. I don't think he can ever recover from some of the big money howlers.

Get rid of all strikers apart from Leigh, and the youth.

Keep Christie, for me i'd punt Allan but some may feel he deserves a proper chance.

Izzy go with your head held high.

GMS - for me another will flood. Simply not enough to be relied on. Confidence player I can understand this, however at Celtic we demand more and he's simply not good enough to be a 'luxury' player.

Play Armstrong in the centre to see if he can cut it - one more season.

Whoever comes in, good luck!

6.) 15 May 2016 16:46:30
He's no manager. Maybe a good kitman at a push.

7.) 15 May 2016 18:38:49
Paradise won, what happened with mccann n mulgrew? Was at the game so never seen it on sky.

8.) 15 May 2016 19:10:43
Wyllie I think they disagreed in press over mulgrew going off in a match without permission and McCann had a go but on the pitch today with chuck and McCann at pitch side it was so awkward and I mean cringeworthy hail hail

Wasn't Armstrong a delight today and the quick feet of rogic for the Christie goal was immense.

I have always been behind Ronny and his methods. I think we needed fresh ideas as the club was in a bit of a shambles when he came in.

BUT, I think he may have he may have run his course and has been found out to be out of his depth.

We have two choices as I see it:

1. let him go and bring someone else in, I don't know who though.
2. Stick with Ronny, but give him some more back room support and experience. Collins and Kennedy don't have the required coaching experience and steady head he needs.

Morning Ed and all,

After the dust settles and thinking long and hard at the issues we have one thing has become abundantly clear to me. The transfer policy we have is flawed, simple as that.

Let me explain, clubs with less wage expenditure and smaller turnover are producing the goods in Europe (Malmo, Basle type teams).

I understand the model of buy young sell big BUT this has to be in moderation with a few experienced international standard players. We need some experienced heads in that dressing room, we can't rely on Scott Brown all the time as the driving force in the team.

Two or three 28-32 year old experienced players on 35-40k a year isn't going to break the bank.

CeltStu

1.) 26 Aug 2015 14:38:25
I agree with that celtstu, I think we need some more experienced players particularly in defence.
Whoever we get to replace Van Djik, I think it needs to be someone who can take command of things and be a good organiser.
We shouldn't be losing goals from corners the way we did against Malmo, it was really poor, at SPL level you can get away with being slack at the back, but when you play at a higher level you have to be rock solid in defence, unfortunately we never look as if we can keep a clean sheet whenever we play a team who are slightly better than we normally play.
I also felt there was a slight lack of belief in the home leg, when we led 2-0, and then 3-1, the tie was at our mercy, but we lacked the killer instinct to go and finish the tie off, it looked to me as if they couldn't believe the position we were in and tried to preserve what they had, a more confident team would have gone on and rendered the second leg meaningless.
I think this lack of belief meant that when the first goal went in last night, and we went behind in the tie, any confidence we had just evaporated and the result became a foregone conclusion.

Hi Ed and all

Not posted in over a year for various reasons that I won't bore folk with. Ed hope you are doing better buddy.

I just wanted to say I am pretty astounded at the level of negativity just now, we have played 5 competitive games this season to date - won 4 drawn 1 scored 9 conceded 1.

We should be very happy to be in this position.

Looking forward to the Malmo games quietly confident, a lot more than in previous years of qualifiers.

Yes we need strengthening but there is not a team in Britain or Europe that doesn't.

C'mon guys let's get behind the hoops, I am now 5000 miles from Celtic park but as buzzing as ever about the new season.

CeltStu

CeltStu

{Ed007's Note - Nice to hear from you, Stu. I'm fine thanks and hope you're doing well.}

1.) 08 Aug 2015 00:41:29
Good thanks Ed,

Moved from Dubai to Houston. Think the company are trying to get me further from Parkhead!!

Glad to hear you are good.

Anything further on this rumour of a striker? Cheers

{Ed007's Note - It's alright for some!! (sun) You didn't leave Dubai because a couple of rowdy Scousers turned up all bubble-perms and knocked off DVD players did you?
I've not got a clue who the striker Radio Snyde are on about, player like Kramer and Sergio Araujo have all been mentioned before.}

2.) 08 Aug 2015 02:46:23
Celtstu nobody is complaining about the results, its the striker issue that is main concern. Are people automatically "negative" now because they are questioning signing Cifti, a player who is not as good as Griffiths?

3.) 08 Aug 2015 03:11:02
Haha thanks Ed, too many deluded Sevconians in Dubai, now I get to detest the Texas Rangers.

Didn't realise it was a Snyde rumour! That won't be happening then.

{Ed001's Note - hahaha the cheeky git was asking about the scousers as I am in Dubai now.}

4.) 08 Aug 2015 03:12:05
CeltStu

Houston has to be better, mate. Just got to Tulsa myself. let's try to catch a game sometime.

5.) 08 Aug 2015 10:55:23
Keep calm and we can all judge once the window closes. Even if we signed another striker now there is no guarantee he would settle before the Malmo games or that he would score goals right away.

I am reasonably happy with the strikers we do have and realise it can take players a while to get back up to speed in the new season.

Ciftci is not yet at the fitness level he needs to be to play the role and for that reason I would start Griffiths at Parkhead when we play Malmo. If you cast your minds back to last season, it took our players about 6 months to get the required fitness levels, so we need to give him time to bed in.

Morning all,

Can we start our bi-annual transfer deadline day posts now? Robbie Keane and Kevin Doyle at Glasgow Airport. Richard Dunne and Sean St Ledger spotted in Greggs on Sauchiehall Street.

A wee bit of friendly banter required today as I expect we will get hee haw other than a loan or two.

Ed, in all seriousness is there any actual news/gossip on the transfer front?

I agree with 007 his ego was always going to do this one day and I just hoped it would be not in the middle of a season. Poor timing by someone who’s kidded us on for 2 years reference his ‘dream job’.

Ed, this is a real coup and a sign of intent. This kid has the chance to go to the very top.

We have the boy Ajer in for central midfield so for me if we can sign a good quality CB and winger (and hopefully a GK) I think we will be good for the Champs league qualifiers.

CeltStu

{Ed007's Note - I'm looking forward to seeing Ajer and the general feeling seems to be that he's impressed in training considering he's arrived during a managerial change. Brendan Rodgers spoke to him and assured him nothing had changed with the Club's plans for him. Let's hope he keeps to his word about the young players.
I'd love to get a new GK in, I'm never confident going into any big game with Gordon in goal and the aftermath of the SC semi-final masked yet another blunder of his in a massive game. There is no doubts in my mint that no matter what European competition we're in next season Gordon will cost us points.}

The issue he has only played about 30 games in the last 3 years, he certainly was class in his time but not sure if he still has the legs for his position.

I know Kolo had played similar amount of games but its a very different position when your a CM with lack of legs (ask Joey B hahahaha)

If he could prove his fitness would be class signing though.

Ed, on the STV news site it showed to players going into the airport to check in and Liam Henderson was right behind Broony.

I'll see if I can dig out the photo as I I was really pleased to see him back.

{Ed007's Note - I tried to find a pic of him and couldn't but I'm not doubting you mate, his dashing good looks are hard to miss. Cheers for letting us know. (yes)

Ed you will now better than me, but didn't the 3 Wallace (Rod, Ray and Danny) all not only play 1st div football in England but all played at same time for Southampton?

Haven't posted in ages, too depressed on what's going on.

CeltStu

{Ed007's Note - Yes mate they all played for Southampton together but I'm not sure it it was a regular occurrence.}
