Corners

Not only can we not score from corners but we only have one player out of the entire squad (griff) who can hit them. On Sunday sinky was scared to take one so he played it short. You would think out of tierney cal sinky Forrest that someone could whip a ball in. When we are in the market for players this summer it would be nice to sign up a set piece taker who can play rb, rw or cm.

{Ed007's Note - I've said it before but I don't know why a young player like KT (even CalMac) isn't spending time practising dead balls, corners and free-kicks. Imagine a player of his quality just now being able to deliver a cross from a set-piece or ping in a free-kick. Players like Beckham, Ronaldo and Naka weren't born with that talent, it came from hours and hours of practise on the training field.
A LB with KT's ability and a threat from set pieces would add a few million onto any potential fee.}

Agree with the part about our players should be out practicing set pieces ed, our set pieces are nothing short of embarrassing! Can’t remember them being this bad in a long long time! Think back to thommo Naka mulgrew even Barry robson and Hartley delivered a great set piece! But can’t agree with the not being born with that talent mate, yes all the names u mentioned practiced constantly but all were born with unbelievable natural talent to produce that!

{Ed007's Note - I can't agree with that, LH, regardless of natural ability anyone can get better at delivering free-kicks and set pieces from enough practise - Beckham is the perfect example of it, he certainly wasn't the usual free flowing winger likes Giggs and relied on quality of his crosses and dead ball delivery situations, he learnt from watching Cantona practise and Ronaldo spent hours after training practising free-kicks and crosses. We're not talking dribbling by 3 men and slotting the ball through the 'keeper's legs here, it's hitting a stationery ball.}

Ed is totally right it is learned. Danny Mcgrain said when he was switched to LB he couldn't get crosses in properly. He worked with the coaches to find out what he was doing wrong. After few weeks they figured out that when he crossed from the right he lifted his arm to steady himself. He's started doing that on other side and learned to cross as well from the left as the right.

I'd say guys like Pirlo, Juninho and Naka must have had some sort of natural "feel" for hitting a free kick to be as consistently brilliant at it as they were but you can also bet they all practiced constantly to make the most of it. You'll probably never get to that sort of level but if you practice hard enough you're bound to get a whole lot better.

A just can't get ma head round a professional footballer that can't hit a dead ball, I'd make an extra hour at training mandatory for set pieces till we find our top man.

Lubo is surely the perfect example of natural talent. Being able to hit a ball with left or right foot is not something you can just do with practise.

Yep totally agree. Kt should be practising and practising. He whips in a good enough ball running down the wing so he should be able to hit an inswinging corner. Hopefully if Lennon sorts anything it will be to become a threat from corners again. We need to get Barry Robson back training the youngsters.

I'd try n get lubo or naka back for training set pieces. I can remember lubo showing shaun maloney how he does it, that never turned out too badly.

Na not for me. yes practice makes u better but there’s got to a natural talent to start with. if it was just a case of learning it then more players would be doing it! And I’m sure there’s hundreds out there who have spent hours trying it. your beckhams Nakas le tissier pirlo Ronaldinho and del pieros of the world are born with a god given talent to do it but have spent time over the years perfecting it.

{Ed001's Note - actually Beckham was not very good at it originally. Cantona taught him a trick and he perfected it through many, many hours of practice staying behind after training to do so. Nedved is an even better example of someone who learnt to take dead balls through time on the training pitch, he not only learnt that but worked so hard on his weaker foot it became his stronger one.}

Henriks tongue Iv never heard so much nonsense in all my puff! You have obviously never kicked a ball. I’m the first to shout about players playing at the top level have no excuse for not being 2 footed yes there are some kids naturally more gifted than others but with hard work and practice players can be 2 footed and hit great dead balls with both feet. None of the top players get where they are without practice.

How many Celtic players are 2 footed Campsie? Of course the top players practise but my point was Lubo obviously had natural talent to have the ability to take a corner with his right foot then go across and take a corner with his left.

No need to worry, Lenny will be bringing James McClean in next season and then our corners and free kicks are taken care off, and he will show all what commitment is. A 29 yr old,77 caps, and bags of expierance, problem solved.

I mind reading that one of the Lisbon lions dad made him play in a miners boot and that taught him to be two footed because he had to use his weaker foot as the miners boot was to heavy. Can't mind who it was though.

Set pieces are a big problem as all of you have stated. We maybe produce 1 decent set piece for every 10-15 we take. But the second part of the problem is on the occasion we do produce a good set piece there’s not one player with the desire to go and attack it and thunder it into the back of the net.

What I can’t get my head around is why we can have 5 players in the box for corners but they are all on top of each other doing a huddle. No one every at back of box to react to knock on.

Has any one seen KT take a corner? He seems to hit a dead ball pretty well.
