That's pretty pathetic stuff Tim. If you want someone to be annoyed at for the McGinn fiasco look no further than our own chief exec, not the player who I know for a fact was messed about by our club.

Get over it, I think it’s got out of hand as we didn’t sign players we wanted in the summer . All of a sudden he seems to have become twice the player as we never got him. I know he scored a great goal a couple of weeks ago but personally I don’t think he’s that good. If we want to improve we need to buy better players than we already have and he’s not one of them.

I can see both sides of the debate; of course our board made a bawz of it haggling and stalling, but if the player was as 'Celtic daft' as he's supposed to be - he didn't have to go to Villa and could have run down his contract as no player can be forced to go anywhere.

{Ed007's Note - McGinn would never have done that to Hibs or St Mirren though. Any move he agreed to had to be the best for all parties concerned as his way of showing his appreciation to those clubs who had helped him develop.
The blame for McGinn not signing has to be placed solely and firmly at Lawwell's door, - it was his mistakes and approach/attitude that stopped a deal happening - and privately he accepts that now.}

Ed, he was encouraged via his agent (s) not to play for Hibs in Europe to try and force through a move and prevent him from being cup tied. He didn't play the first leg against Runavik due to an "injury" and by the time the second leg came round we hadn't made any further progress to get him in so he played the game. I think that's pretty admirable tbh.

{Ed007's Note - We all know 99% of agents are slimeballs so no surprise there for me, Kev. It was up to Celtic (Lawwell) to push the deal through, not McGinn and as you've said he conducted himself admirably throughout it all and showed that not all young players are only our for themselves.
If Peter Lawwell thought McGinn was going to sign on the cheap in January or on a free next summer then he's been a mug. Rodgers, Hibs, McGinn himself and even Lawwell thought that the player would have ended up at Celtic, the only person to blame for it not happening is Lawwell.}

I like Peter Lawwell. He’s an outstanding CEO. He’s a fan. His family have been fans for generations. I don’t know him personally.

If I won the USA Lottery for $1.6 Billion and bought Celtic, I would happily retain PL as CEO. He’s intelligent, disciplined, and doesn’t allow the club to be screwed. A man to trust with a couple of hundred million.

Even the best Executives make errors. He’s human. If he has admitted an error in this lost opportunity then he’s gone up even more in my estimation.

PL takes his instructions from the club Owner. If the club Owner wished to run the club on a different financial model then PL would run it to those numbers.

48 hours later, I find myself more forgiving of Brendan Rodgers regarding Thursday. Last year I was the first on blogs asking for the club to wise up after the CL group stages and get out the Europa League. My logic was a possible double treble was more important, the money had been made in the CL and the SPFL ten in a row could not be risked. I was right and we got out.

I do expect some further genuine effort in EL in home games, and a desire to get through, but focusing on tomorrow was the correct decision with the threadbare squad we have.

The club owner is not DD its a PLC and DD is the biggest shareholder with circa 35% of the shares but he's not the owner.
In a PLC the CEO ( and the board) have a legal obligation to the shareholders, that's the problem with Celtic is that we don't have an owner.

They are scumbags Ed but they were also acting on Celtic’s behalf. It’s just the dirty tricks of football that we don’t get to see as fans. Every club is guilty of it.

{Ed007's Note - Ed002 is very good friends with Mino Raiola & Jorge Mendes, it would surprise most people what goes on but I stopped sharing it because it wasn't worth the hassle of posts from people that still think a manager runs everything at a club.}

Managers should not control player recruitment at clubs.

Managers should have a significant input to recruitment meetings and highlight his preferred targets.

At the meeting, Chief Scout should take that on Board. But the scout network should be looking at numerous possibilities/ opportunities outwith the managers targets and his limited market knowledge. The latest intelligence on various players in various countries should be shared with the manager.

The finance director should control the budget constraints against club financial model and player contracts model.

Medical officer review known medical histories of advanced targets.

The Chief Scout and scouting network should be independent of the manager and not report to him/ be controlled by him. This helps keep everyone honest. No side deals, kick backs, bit off the top going on, to the financial detriment of the club.

Managers and Scouts should never be allowed to talk to players agents.

Whoever gets bought/ brought in, the manager must welcome them and treat all players equally, whether he backed that player recruitment or not.

It’s called teamwork and respect for each person in the recruitment process.

I would put a completely new player identification and recruitment process in place at CFC, the current approach is wrong for several reasons. Buying crocks, buying duds, emergency buying, wasting money and an unclear demarcation understanding of those involved in the process. Causing personality friction and ego horn rutting?

There should be an approved process procedure with a flow chart and roles and responsibilities matrix highlighting clear responsibilities and accountabilities.

One day, world football will catch up with the discipline of Operational Excellence.

I agree and disagree Molly.

All shareholders are owners. DD is principal and largest shareholder. Most other large block shareholders habitually vote with him in all AGMs.

Do others hold or even own shares but he controls their voting rights by some private contractual arrangements and side deals?

Who knows?

I read Martin O’Neil received a million pounds worth of shares as part of his contract. It’s my understanding that that block always votes with DD on every issue. Did Martin get the shares but Dermot retain voting rights?

Ally McCoist gave his Sevco shares voting rights to his East Kilbride supporters club but he kept the shares and their value.
