Right guys what do you all class as playing football the CELTIC ways as?
Had someone say to me that we shouldn't be playing the system we are because it's not the celtic way.
To me playing free flowing attacking football and winning things is the celtic way
Formation doesn't matter to me as long as they work.

For me its about winning whilst being entertained consistently throughout a season.

For someone who started following Celtic during the dark years of the early nineties, I can say happily that this team, along with O'Neill and Tommy burns, have given the most consistent "Celtic way" of playing.

Just my thoughts 🙂.

If the balls getting put about fast and we're scoring goals while also keeping it right at the back, I'm happy. That Blackburn UEFAgame where Hartson, Sutton and Henke bossed it is pretty much the Celtic way for me but if we can have have the ball fizzing about with one up front I'll still be chuffed.

Never understood the term myself tbh so i'm interested to see responses.

Always understood it to be entertaining, attacking, free-flowing football, a sprinkle of 'Stars' and goals-a-plenty.
It's what I was fortunate enough have seen in the sixties when I started going to the games and it has been the trademark of all great Celtic sides.

It is a good question.

I agree with Passing Time, free flowing attacking (but winning) football. I have also taken it as if you score 7 we will score 8 unless you are Barcelona and we are trying to park the bus 😀

I don't think its related to playing any particular formation. I would say that even though Strachan had his team playing winning football and brought a lot of success it wasn't the celtic way for me as i didn't find it very entertaining (yes there were moments) , but overall i wouldn't have said we were playing any form of progressive football like we are trying to do now and did in 67. Under MON i would also say he was not trying to play the celtic way but with the quality of his squad its what we got (sometimes, as sometimes it was a little turgid) . Again i'm not saying it was bad in these eras where we had very good success. but i just prefer the approach at the moment and if we fail after giving it a right good go and trying to take the game to an opponent it makes any defeat a bit easier to take and that is the Celtic way as long as our team has tried its best to impose a fast style of attacking football regardless of the outcome i'm a happy bhoy.

There is no definitive definition of what the "Celtic Way" is from my understanding.

I dare say that it will mean something different from person to person. To me I would define it as being totally dominant in attack and attacking with flair. The formation is not relevant to me.

For me it's attacking open football with 2 flair wingers and a number 7 being the most reliable player on the park we haven't had a number 7 for years probably a weird 1 but to me it's iconic.

I always thought the saying came when big jock developed a 'new' style of play i. e. Attacking full backs, the whole team building attacks etc. This for me (although I'm not old enough for Lisbon) was personified when the lions dismantled the very defensive style of inter (anti football? )

Did the term 'the Celtic way' exist before big jocks tenure?

For me the term will always mean 'winning in the right way', fast free flowing attacking football, quick breaks, swagger on the ball. But most importantly winning with class and sporting integrity.

I always feel (paranoia perhaps) , that we have to beat that 'extra man' in black (and the sfa) when we step on the pitch, therefore we need to dominate teams and be clear cut winners. I'm not saying we don't get our share of decisions but I never feel confident in the big cup ties regarding referee impartiality.

I want entertainment when I wat h the team and this season is the first in a long time I genuinely get excited before the game.
Speaking of entertainment- lubo or di canio for sheer spark?
