Reading that lennon has supposedly said he expects sammy to just play out his contract and leave in the summer. If this is the case does anyone else agree that he should be nowhere near the 1st team and should be left to train with the kids? if he doesn't want to sign then why not do celtic a favour and leave now so we at least get some money for him

Agree that he could have done the decent thing by getting us some cash and I also agree that he should never play for Celtic again as there are plenty players there who do want to play. Wouldn't agree he should be treated that badly to be made to train alone or with the youngsters.

2.) 23 Jan 2014
In a way yes, but he came to us on reduced wages etc. probably not everyone's cup of tea, but still been a good servant to the club, the same as Ledley, but we did get him on a free. Jbhoy

3.) 23 Jan 2014
Samaras has been a good servant to Celtic so I don't see why we should banish him. If he wants to run his contract down then that's his prerogative an good luck to him. If he's fit and in form he should play. He has a World Cup coming up so his form will need to be consistent from now to the summer.

4.) 23 Jan 2014
He has been a good servant can't deny that but this is turning into a recurring theme with our players in the last year of ther contract. Some of the blame has to fall on the club aswel for leaving the contracts to run down like this instead of making an ultimatum last summer either they sign or will be sold instead of be held at ransom by players

Spot on GunnieBhoy; it happens too often and we are too naive and generous by far with this nonsense.
When a player runs down his contract, his mind is certainly not on Celtic and his commitment has to be questioned.
Never mind if they have been a good servant (and I don't think Samaras was pound for pound as good as all that over his whole career).
Rather let them leave for free and get a better replacement in for the wages we will have saved.

Sami Ledley or whoever. The board is responsible along with the manager. We as fans continue to have info drip fed as and when the powers that be dictate.
If they were part of the long term plan they would have been offered contracts 12 or 18 months ago. If not and the club wants to play hardball there will only ever be one outcome. The players will walk if they are in demand and these two are.

7.) 23 Jan 2014
He's been here for 7 years and shown great loyalty. He was given a contract for however many years and he's going to honour it and then move on. It's not like Bobo refusing to budge while getting 30k a week. It's a disgrace if he is banished to train with the youngsters IMO.

Samaras wasn’t a free signing, from memory cost around £1.2m having initially been on loan.
In terms of salary, assuming the figs banded about are correct and he’s been on at least £18k/pw he’ll have been paid the best part of £6m over the course of his stay at the club.
Value for money? Not for me, 6 seasons can probably be summed up in the goals at Ibrox that earned his last contract and last season’s run in CL. Other than that there was the occasional game he played well. I remember only too well the regular crowd reaction to him either during a game or being put on/subbed and it certainly wasn’t this hero status that he gets latterly.
The problem we have here is not of Samaras’ doing. He signed a contract and is honouring the terms of it. It is the board or whoever handles contracts to let it run down to the stage where someone can walk for free.
Negotiations should commence 18 months out, in this case last Jan ’13 should have been the point where we sought a decision one way or another and then sold him in Summer. I find it absurd and in no other profession would this business practice be entertained.

DD it's samaras perocatuve to run down his contract and leave with out his club getting a fee, fair enough it's also lennons job to play players that want to play for the club and who are commuted to the club, not his job to give samaras time on a park to keep himself fit for the World Cup . He shouldn't keep players who want to be there out the team . Dnt agree with playing with the reserves

whats worse is that bobo was the best defender at the club and was never played, and wasnt samaras price closer to 3.5 mill now that was a complete waste, glad to see the back of him

13.) 23 Jan 2014
Wee side topic since Bobo & money was mentioned in the same sentence; anyone else a bit suspect of his eh little 'booboos' toward the end of certain crucial CL games? I must confess it's something i've long wondered about. pea

Did everyone react like this when Henrik ran down his contract. If he had signed then Celtic could have sold him for millions but he didn't and he walked for nothing. Sammy has not held the club to ransom, he has performed erratically since he arrived so its not as if he has had a drop of form or an increase because he is out of contract. Sammy is what he is, he has dug us out of holes in the past and for that I am grateful, and if he leaves then he goes with my thanks and best wishes and if he plays again he will have my support because he is playing in the Hoops.

15.) 23 Jan 2014
You can't compare larrson and sammi for one larrson gave us everything he had in every game he played sammi just plays the games he can be bothered so punt him don't let him run his contract down or just release him

16.) 23 Jan 2014
Man City signed Sammy for £6m in January 2006 then we signed him for a figure of £1m that would reach a maximum of £3m with add-on's two years later. Hardly the worst signing considering the fact he's scored 71 in 240 games (most at LW), he regularly dined in Hell v the Deady Bears then that CL run he had last year!

17.) 23 Jan 2014
Allymac35 the difference with henrik is he let everyone know he was leaving so we knew the situation and understood he wanted to move on and we accepted it and wished him luck but we don't know wtf is happening with sammy why can't he come out and say he either wants to stay or leave plus u can't compare the 2 henrik was a world class player who played out his skin every single game sammy turns up once in a blue moon

GunnieBhoy

{Ed007's Note - Larsson initially said he was going back to Sweden to play for Helsingborg and the board offered him £1m bonus if he seen out his contract. The board then got the fans to pay the bonus through his 'testimonial'. There was no mention of any testimonial or benefit match when the bonus was agreed.}

18.) 23 Jan 2014
I am nto comparing Henrik and Sammy, jeez, gie's a break. I am only trying to say that both of them let their contract run down and left for pastures new after alomost the same length of time at the club. Henrik got a nice wee match at the end for his loyalty bonus, don't think Sammy will get his. All I am saying is he has been there 7 years and tried his best, while it wasn't always great, he scored a lot of goals that allowed us to smile and he should be remembered for that and not looking disinterested when playing Ross County in Dingwall ( No disrespect to Ross County or their fans)

19.) 23 Jan 2014
No one mentioned samaras was free, I think the best option if he wasn't to sign new deal would be to release him on a free just now, that way we would save the wage, and wish him well. Jbhoy

20.) 23 Jan 2014
Did you say the same about Larsson, Sutton, McNamara, Lambert, etc Jbhoy? Awk just let them go, who cares if they served us for nearly a decade - get them too. Is that the Celtic way now?!

21.) 23 Jan 2014
Hb, I think you've picked me up wrong here, I think samaras deserves to be released, instead of being sent to reserves etc. which would suit both him & the team, and if I remember right sutton was moved on very quickly, and btw samaras, as much as he's been a good servant, couldn't get near the 1st team with Larson, Sutton etc. Jbhoy

Did McNamara not get treated pretty sh*tty when he left, thought he wanted to stay but didn't get offered a contract when starch an came in. Mite be way off with that just something ringing a bell with that

{Ed007's Note - Strachan wanted McNamara to stay and told him that, the board dithered over offering him a new deal until the summer when McNamara had already verbally agreed to join Wolves. It got a bit messy and the club should have handled the whole situation better and treated the player with a bit more respect. It basically looked as if the board didn't appreciate him and thought him re-signing was only a formality.}.

New there was something about him being took for granted

{Ed007's Note - See, you're not just a pretty face ;)

24.) 24 Jan 2014
Jbhoy, read ure post (No 2), u say he came for free ffs!

25.) 24 Jan 2014
Stevo, if you read the post again it says Ledley was free ffs. Jbhoy
