Mulumbu. Commper. Gamboa. De Vries. (Hayes? Allen? Hendry? )

These seem to be the worst sort of signings in retrospect: reactionary impulse-buys. But did they get a fair shake?

Agree0 Disagree0

Hendry will improve and play a part for us
Hayes was unlucky with the leg break and being up against our best attacking player in Sinclair
The rest were just not right for one reason or another.
In Allen we sent a better player on loan to hibs in young Henderson.

Hayes was rotten before leg break. Really failed to impress against Linfield slippery slope from there.

Footballs not as simple as being a good or bad player.

For me Hayes would never suit our style. He likes to go wide and cross balls in. We don't play like that, bizarre signing.

De Vries was simply terrible.

Gamboa had a hard time tbh, given games once every few months. Sometimes against world class sides then judged on it

Mulumbu would suit a Strachan style side. Strict positioning etc. Rodgers style requires a lot of movement and more agility in the midfield. Shame cos he's no as bad as people make out.

Hendry is just terrible. Compper injuries make it impossible. Allan. Who knows what that was about.

Most of these guys would have done well in other Celtic teams but if you look at the players they’re trying to compete with, it’s a hard gig to break into that team. While they remain at the club, they still give us value as strength in depth and keep the first team players on toes.

Kev I don’t post as much as I want to on here cos you generally post what I’m thinking 1st. But in this case I disagree I’d love Hendry to come good bit he’s a project that hasn’t and won’t work out just not good enough. Hayes is another who would probably run through a brick wall for us but in fairness so would I if I had the chance another not good enough.
Happy with the window tho never saw Burke as a no9 but that’s only from what I read of the bhoy but think he could do us a turn their prefer to see eddy in behind he’s got that killer pass in his locker. Weah looks a player but not as a lone striker. Agreed with you all along on sinky people don’t seem to see the overall contrite brings to the team
All in all up front we’ve got players far superior to the rest and as for our weak defence can anyone name an spl player we would have in place of any of them?
Here we go 10iar.

Welshy Jack Hendry has only been here a short time and was hung out to dry this season. Ye he is raw but he does have the attributes to improve.

01 Feb 2019 08:13:09
Tesla you have contradicted yourself regarding Hendry. End of the day he needs more game time and at start of season it was looking likely Christie would be away but look what happened there.

Hendry needs a loan spell to get regular top flight football as he has potential. Personally I think he is a better option than Scott mckenna.

01 Feb 2019 09:14:12
If you look at Hendry’s performance in the Aberdeen game at CP in Sept, he’s got all the hallmarks of a top quality CB. I think he’ll develop.

01 Feb 2019 09:52:17
Hendry is still young and has plenty of good attributes but needs time to mature and needs to be playing each week to learn from the mistakes. CB’s don’t often peek in their early 20’s, Hendry could do with playing with a team like Aberdeen for 18months.

01 Feb 2019 09:56:58
In the past I was a Hendry fan because I felt he looked comfortable on the ball and central defenders improve by age and experience.
Now I believe that Hendry can't do basic defending.
Against partick thistle in the cup he ran beside the goalscorer without as much as a challenge. He then found himself out of the squad for the next 5 games and then 1 game after that he was an unused sub. In those 6 matches Celtic conceded only 1 goal which was away from home in europe.
At that time Celtic looked quite comfortable at the back, then comes the killie away game where Brendan made a few changes.
Hendry comes in from the wilderness and in my opinion caused the 2 goals we conceded because he can't do basic defending.
When burke scored the equaliser hendry refused to try and close him down and gave him a free pop at goal and then the winner he lost the goalscorer he was marking at a corner.
As I said before I could see potential because he is good on the ball but the boy can't defend and you can't teach those basic defending skills like tackle, close down your opponent and don't easily lose your man at a set piece.
From that day I knew Hendry was not going to make it at Celtic which is unfortunate.

Where have I contradicted myself?

He had a fair run of games and was hopeless. Why do you think he's our last choice CB right now? Even Rodgers said he needs to develop more.

He's not 18 either, he's almost 24 in a few months. So when will he be ready? 27?

As for Christie, I never said Christie was a bad player. I actually always said Christie was a good player even before his loan to Aberdeen.

"00:11:10

Well Tesla if your saying that do you not think Hendry deserves a chance of regular football on a loan spell considering fact he has only played a grand total of 70 professional first team games in his whole career at age 24? Surely you will agree he is inexperienced at age 24 and a loan spell to a team like Aberdeen would do him well?

Was using Ryan Christie as an example of how successful his loan spell was.

01 Feb 2019 12:11:49
I don't and can't see at any time that Hendry will come good yes he has had one decent game but that's it I am sure he is 23? So not really a young man as far as a footballer is concerned I am sure he is a good lad but not a good enough player for us I really hope he can prove me wrong.

01 Feb 2019 13:15:56
Tony2bhoy he is not going to come good unless he gets game time. Also most CB come good at 26/ 28 so he still has time on his hands.

01 Feb 2019 16:10:56
IMO Hayes isn’t good enough for Celtic.

01 Feb 2019 18:55:31
There are many Celtic fans who think nobody playing for other club in Spl are good enough for Celtic . There are also many Celtic fans with the benefit of hindsight love to say many players Celtic had signed were not good enough . It is easy to decide afterwards but I am sure our recruitment staff felt that if things worked out everyone could do a job . Injuries, loss of form, not able to adjust to big club, all can affect new players . It's a bit of a gamble with most transfers but if the new player gets off to a good start, they usually come good.

01 Feb 2019 19:58:34
I would partly agree Hibsboy, Hayes isn’t good enough for this Celtic team but in a different era he’d have gotten into the team and done well. Hendry is a different proposition. He’s young and needs to gain experience. How many of us thought Ryan Christie would be a first choice AM when he came back from Aberdeen? I think we should be careful with Hendry as we should have been with Andy Robertson when we had him.

01 Feb 2019 20:28:29
It's got nothing to do with him being from SPL for me.

I liked Hartley, Robson, McDonald etc

Hendry looks like he's a long way from being ready. Mentally he looks like playing for a big club intimidates him

He's replying to people criticising him on Facebook.

No room for being a snowflake at a club of this size. If you play poor you should be told and criticised.

That's why we are a big club.

We could try and develop hendry in next couple of seasons, but why?

We can easily attract a player twice his ability. It's to our detriment waiting for inferior players to catch up.

03 Feb 2019 09:53:05
I thought mulumbu done well in games I seen him, away to red bull in particular (I think) he was our only midfielder who won a tackle n passed it well.

Probably the right option v them in January as well tbh. Allan seemed like a Rodgers type player, guess its hard when 2 out of 3 spots in mf are taken wi Broon n calmac so only 1 spot up for grabs for the other 4 CMs.

03 Feb 2019 10:53:49
If, as has been suggested, Mulumbu was the dressing room tout who was telling stories to Fatman Kris Boyd then I'm glad he has gone. Obviously I have no definite knowledge and am commenting only on the rumour which may be right or wrong.
He did look like a talented lad when he was at Killie though and I had hoped he could have brought something a bit different to our side. Obviously he won't play against us for the rest of the season so I hope he can do some damage to the sides around us in the league. HH.
