Ed, I was told that McGinn will be confirmed tomorrow or Tuesday at the latest. Accurate or total pish? HH.

{Ed007's Note - Yeah that sounds about right but nothing's 100% until it happens so it might drag on. Brendan Rodgers met McGinn today and he could be a wildcard signing for the CL.}

Really hpping so. I really rate McGinn. Can see Sinky, morgan, Eddie and Dembelation cashing in on defence splitting paces from the kid.

Can't see it being done in time for wildcard at this late stage with clubs to agree price medical personal terms to be all completed by 11 or 12 morra. I know deadline day that's what happens but with the reports on evaluation for the player being well off at the moment I can't see it happening that quick.

Another bench warmer .

09 Jul 2018 09:46:36
TRY, who else would we have if Brown or Ntcham got injured?
Yes you are correct and he won't start every game just now but as I said in case of injuries or Brown needling a rest.
We have no one that can step in unless you would be happy with Bitton coming back into the team, but he is already out until September due to an injury.

09 Jul 2018 09:54:31
TTTS. He doesn't get in the first XI for me either but we need more than Ollie at CM. Plus, being a Celtic fan he should be happy being a squad player which itself is hard to come across. He'll definitely get game time domestically. And improve.

{Ed007's Note - Do the people girning about McGinn also think we shouldn't have signed Edouard because he won't get in the team before Dembele?

09 Jul 2018 10:50:24
McGinn if he plays for Hibs on Thursday does this put him out for CL qualifying stages if we bring him on?

09 Jul 2018 11:03:46
No idea Ed. A CM was not at the top of my list, but with Armstrong away we need cover. It's as simple as that. Armstrong 7-8m. McGinn, maybes 3m? That's a position sorted for several years, plus an extra 5m in the kitty to go towards the first XI maybe once the English window shuts? Good business.

{Ed007's Note - Exactly, JT. Armstrong's departure leaves us severely short in the CM department and McGinn's arrival will more than fill that void and unlike Armstrong McGinn wants to be here, in fact the lad's desperate to become a Celtic player.}

09 Jul 2018 11:28:37
Surely we should be working towards other signings while working on McGinn. If him and French Eddy are our only signings I’d be concerned.

09 Jul 2018 11:06:02
how can Brendan meet mcginn without Hibs permission? Surely we would need to agree a fee before that happened? Still not convinced on the McGinn move to be honest! One minute I think it’s a good idea and the next I think do We really need him!

Spot on ED!

Still the doubters same mince got talked about Armstrong before he signed.

{Ed007's Note - The same mince is spoken about every signing and every signing target. If he was called Juan McGinnio and we were signing him for £6 million from a mid-table Pub League team people would be creaming themselves.}

09 Jul 2018 13:25:51
I don’t think Armstrong leaving does leave us short. We have Broony, Ntcham, Kouassi and Bitton for 2 places. McGregor can also drop in there too. I think we need to get rid of either Kouassi or Bitton too as McGinn is a better player than both of them.

If we do get McGinn the next priority has to be the defence.

{Ed007's Note - Nobody's going to sign Bitton while he's injured and I wouldn't be surprised to see Kouassi go out on loan for next season.}

09 Jul 2018 13:34:53
Spot am truly baffled by this they obviously missed our games against hibs last season or performances against the so called other big clubs.

Spot am truly baffled by this they obviously missed our games against hibs last season or performances against the so called other big clubs.

{Ed007's Note - One win, two draws and one loss we had against Hibs last year and McGinn dominated our midfield in at least 2 of those games, one with and one without Brown.
McGinn scored the same amount of league goals (5) than Brown (0) and Ntcham (5) together, he also scored more league goals than Rogic (4) and the same amount of assists as the Australian(4) Over all Ntcham scored 9 goals, Rogic scored 8 and McGinn scored 6 playing as a box to box midfielder for Hibs, he was only 2 goals behind the guy fans see as our main creative threat, even on assists overall McGinn (8) is only 1 behind Rogic (9) and in front of Ntcham on (6).}

09 Jul 2018 14:01:30
I must be in the minority Ed, Am always happy to be signing a Celtic supporter who clearly is the best player in the league outwith our own (Y) Now if we can talk that Jamessyooo MacLeaniiiooo into winding down his contract in lieu :-P.

{Ed007's Note - It looks like McClean's going to Stoke, Jamie so it looks like KT'll will still be the team's DJ for the Rebs on the bus.}

09 Jul 2018 14:39:24
McGeouch was the outstanding player in the Hibs midfield for me last year did the exact same job as brown does for us surprised we never looked at getting him back Mcginn is more a replacement/ sub if need to give Ntcham a rest. But he could be moulded into the way brown plays just now.

{Ed007's Note - Rodgers has said he sees Kouassi as Brown's long term replacement but I'm not too sure about that, even if Kouassi comes in and is a success he'll be looking to move on no doubt after 2/3 years (hopefully for a tidy profit) and McGinn will become the midfield anchor long term.}

09 Jul 2018 17:23:04
I think McGinn will be a great signing. I think every game against us last season he stood out, and went toe to toe with Brown. He's a bit raw, but seems to raise it for big games. So will do well against Aberdeen and Hibs.

09 Jul 2018 21:36:03
Ed Mcginn and rogic stats this season isn't really fair is it? Did mcginn no play a good few more games than rogic this season in the league?

{Ed007's Note - So McGinn's fitter and less injury prone than Rogic too. I think it's fair to say I'd expect that a No.10/ACM playing for Celtic would be producing a lot more goals and assists than a box to box midfielder playing for Hibs.}

09 Jul 2018 22:47:56
It's hard to understand how Celtic have just completed a double treble as according to many fans Brendan doesn't seem to know much about bringing in players
In fact many fans seem to think they know better than Brendan . I honesty think that is a complete load of nonsense, as of course the professionals know best.

10 Jul 2018 11:01:06
McGinn will be a great signing. If you can’t see that, I would be worried taking their advice and appraisal of anything.

And Chris, there is legitimate concern about the number of players Brendan has signed that haven’t even made regular appearances for the team. 18 players and three playing regularly doesn't seem to me at least like a great return on investment. So far.

I like a few of those bought, Kouassi, Benyu, in particular look to have a bit of class. What we need is about three players who can come in and be real challengers for key positions. RB and CB for me needing strengthened. McGinn will be a great addition to our midfield. If we keep the moos I will be over the moon, two quality defenders along with McGinn and I will be happy ish. Morgan looks the part too. Brendan’s own statement saying he wanted a more creative dynamic midfielder and went for young Charlie, I wonder if that type of player is being looked at, preferably one that can already tie his own shoelaces would be nice.
I liked the look of the Hagi lad. I know I am thinking how good his faithir was, but he still looked class. I wonder if Brendan is still looking for that type of player.

I hope we are but that would or could take a substantial amount of cash. I’m still hopeful, but, as I said, improving defensively is a must if we are to avoid getting handed our arse again in the CL.

Boyata may leave now so we need cover either way. I too have been impressed with him since Christmas and he has been excellent in Russia. I never doubted his ability, it was always his bad decision making and persistent howlers that always made you feel vulnerable every time he had the ball at his feet and was about to make a pass.

He seems to have sorted that and if he continues will be excellent. We still need someone breathing down all their necks though, a guy able to step right in. That will improve us even if he doesn’t play initially. It keeps you on your toes knowing there is someone capable of putting your arse on the bench,

Let’s look at the money involved, that tells me we will look to bring in players.

To Qualify. £40m

TV POT, last year £13.5m, and set to increase.

Gate Receipts for three home games circa £10m.

Now even if we get out arse’s kicked in every game that’s £63m.

Win a game and that’s another £2.6m

This season is the most important one in terms of the CL. If we put that kind of money into the bank, there will be no way back for Gerrard’s World 11. That’s what’s at stake. Gerrard and King gone. Oh and FF self combusting. Comedy Gold.

Come on Celtic let’s get the players to bury them.

10 Jul 2018 12:45:56
With McGinn in our team he will only improve on them statistics with us dominating the ball in the final third. No brainer for me.
