Rodgers has been given 48 hrs to thrash out a severance deal with Liverpool. He reportedly knocked back £7m of £10m he was due for the remaining 2 years of his £100k per week contract when he left.
I believe he will try to land £3-4m of the £7-8 he is now owed as he's already received half a seasons worth.
Sellik will offer him £20k per week, £500k bonus for winning the title and £1m bonus for champions league qualification, on a 2 year deal with additional 1 year option.
That's potentially £2.5m per year of course only payable if he manages to net the club £20m by qualifying for Champions league.
If he can't renegotiate severance package and is not willing to except DD will not hang around and will offer job to Moyes or Lenny. Lambert, McKay and Keane will NOT be offered job as DD knows he needs to get 1/ 3 mentioned to appease the fans and to get the season tickets sold, Rodgers is not a done deal he is the preferred candidate though.

God I see why u call urself psychic sid! No offence bud but how on earth can u possibly know any of that? And they'll try for Lenny if Rodgers says no because that will sell season tickets! I don't think u could be further from the truth mate! IMO Lennon will in no way get the fans excited and make them run out and buy season tickets! I've nothing against Lennon at all, in fact I think he did a good job 1st time round! But after the past 2 seasons and what we've had to watch I think DD must pull something bigger out the bag! Rodgers has been mentioned for the past few days now and he's fancied heavily, and it's something the majority of fans would be genuinely excited about! If it turns out to be Lennon McKay ect then it will be a kick in the teeth for the fans! Talk about anti climax! It would put me and the fans I know in a right downer going into a new season!

19 May 2016 09:41:30
No offence mate, but why do people seem to think that bringing back Neil Lennon with please fans? He's an average manager at best, who like Deila I feel struggled to take us forward in the absence of Sevco. Other than the one respectable European campaign, the rest were a shambles. Surely Dermont must know the reaction taking a step back and hiring Neil Lennon would get from us, the fan. I know Brendan Rodgers wouldn't be the first name on people lips, but now I think it has to be him. It personally think it would send out one of the biggest statements since the MON era.

I'm reading between the lines, with regards to the package that will attract Rodgers. As for Lennon I think he's 3rd choice of the 3, Moyes being 2nd choice. If Rodgers is not signed and it's down to him not wanting to lose his mega bucks from Liverpool it will make him look like he is more interested in a pay off than the job so DD won't look bad. If that happens and I don't think it will he will go for Moyes followed by Lennon as despite Lennys critics I know of many Hoops fans who would welcome back a man who can bring back the Thunder IMO.
It may be an anti climax getting Lennon when there's a strong possibility of getting Rodgers but there's still Moyes before him and hopefully Rodgers is unveiled anyway but you have to have a Plan B or C.

I don't understand this whole gardening leave/ compensation thing when someone is sacked. If you have a contract worth whatever amount and get fired then surely you are owed that amount. I've heard it said that if the person takes another job then he stops being paid by the initial club (that terminated his contract) - everything seems stacked in the clubs favour. Bottom line is if I was a successful manager I wouldn't even consider agreeing to that because it's simply obvious that if you're sacked you want to work again. Put it this way, - Rodgers was on around 100k per week, he had that in writing. He specifically said he was going to take a few months off then get back to work this summer (around now) there's also reports that he was offered £7 million out of £10 million, but said no. The same story though is implying that if he takes a new job he gets no money (£7 or £10 million) if that is accurate - why not take the £7 million so he can do what he wants by taking another job, that way he'll have the money from Liverpool and say it was Swansea or Celtic. It also means he can get on with building his career/ profile again instead of having to sit unemployed for two and a half years. There's also a separate report I read saying Roberto Martinez is owed a fortune in wages (3 years) and because he got sacked he will get paid all that in one sum/ regardless of what he does in the future!

{Ed001's Note - in most businesses, when you are fired for ineptitude, like Rodgers was from Liverpool, then you do not get your entire contract paid up to you. I fail to see how you can suggest that it is weighted in the club's favour? A multimillionaire failure getting a huge pay off he doesn't need after nearly destroying a club seems very much weighted in the favour of the buffoon who gets any kind of pay off if you ask me. I can't believe Celtic want the useless get, but there you go.}

19 May 2016 10:57:02
Not everyone at zCeltic want Rodgers, I find it unbelievable we are thinking of appointing a manager who was a failure such a short time ago, surely we should be going for someone who's star is on the rise.

19 May 2016 10:59:22
Ed001 would you be kind enough just to give me a few examples of why he's so bad? Noticed both yourself and Ed002 are on the same sort of page. I'm not challenging you by the way, just asking as I don't follow Liverpool close enough, until Klopp took over anyway.

{Ed001's Note - style of play, pass, pass, pass, always sideways or backwards, obsessed with possession, no incision. Poor training regimes, meaning players are totally unfit which meant we struggled towards the end of games and gave up a lot of late goals. Moronic comments to the press which left me wanting to punch the TV screen whenever he was talking. Had no idea how to man manage, to the point that players were all desperate to leave. Oh and, despite the lies in the media about his youth development skills, he was obsessed with building a huge squad to ensure he never had to play any youngsters. Instead he preferred average players to be bought.

That is even if you ignore his personal attitude, refusing to watch youth teams as he was too busy on the sunbed or having affairs or teeth whitening and straightening sessions.}

19 May 2016 11:00:36
The reason some "fans" would be excited about Lennon has nothing to do with football and we all know it.

19 May 2016 11:02:19
I understand your point Ed about business and ineptitude - how do you prove/ define that in football though? You can't say someone is culpable because they picked a certain team/ played a 343. If you are fired for gross negligence or whatever I get that, the bit I don't get is offering him part of what he's owed and paying it weekly, and also it stopping if he takes another job. And also like I said -? what is different about Martinez' case. I'm talking about all this from a purely legal standpoint. I've never understood this gardening leave - it's the club saying - we sacked you, we'll pay your wage, but only until you get a new job! I don't see how that would stand up in a European court. You're either sacked or not, either owed your contract fee or not.

{Ed001's Note - if you are sacked, having failed to get anywhere near the targets set for you, then why do you deserve a huge pay off? The man is a blert and yet he has got paid millions for failing. Fair play to him.}

19 May 2016 11:03:41
Ed001 I think it was you who said a while back why you wouldn't want BR if you were a Celtic fan. Is that correct?

{Ed001's Note - I would be gutted if it was my team.}

19 May 2016 11:04:21
Why do you think Rodgers is useless ed? Curious as my opinion on him is just what iv seen and read and he seems like a good candidate. Who would be your top 3 to replace RD?

{Ed001's Note - if it was me I would be looking at someone like Favre, or possibly Paul Clement? See above for the Rodgers stuff. That was me being nice about him by the way!}

19 May 2016 11:44:17
Didn't even think about clement, he's very highly rated. Haha yeah so not a fan. Half my family are scouse and they couldn't wait to get rid, I'd thought his work at Swansea was good though, well if he does get the job, a huge part of it should be to establish a clear route for youth to get in the 1st team. That should a priority for any incoming gaffer!

{Ed001's Note - he wasn't the manager at Swansea, he was following a plan laid out by the club. It was when he is allowed to use his own ideas and think for himself that he flops.}

19 May 2016 11:57:04
Just want to know ED if Rodgers had got Liverpool over the line and won the league would u still be of the same opinion? I know he obviously didn't but what if? You'll know a lot more than me about what went on with him at Liverpool mate but I feel he did a great job at Swansea and started off really well with Liverpool. i think he would be a great appointment if we could pull it off but I have serious doubts about it actually happening! Still think there's to many hurdles to overcome like wages, his budget and the quality of the SPL. hope I'm wrong but!

{Ed001's Note - what he did after that season was tear the club apart, so it would have been a big thank you to Suarez and Sturridge for winning the title and good bye Brendan.}

19 May 2016 12:23:42
Did Rodgers not do a good job at Swansea, bringing them to the EPL and then establishing them as a top flight club?

I thought in the season when Liverpool were 2nd in the league he seemed to do well and probably would've won it had it not been for big Stevie G. then he would've been a legend? Although a lot of people say this was solely due to Suarez, if you put Suarez in the Celtic team we wouldn't finish 2nd in the EPL.

Again i'm not disagreeing/ arguing with Ed001, but just wondered if you hated him during that season?

{Ed001's Note - the league was not lost by Gerrard's slip, it was lost because of his insistence on using a charlatan as a sports pyschologist which saw the team bottle it at the end when the pressure hit.}

19 May 2016 13:08:00
Appreciate that Ed. He strimes me as a bell, but I could look past that. He was always popping up in quotes of the week etc. I remember the one about him jogging past peoples houses and enjoying smelling the mince cooking lol. Or something like that anyway. The refusing to watch youths and poor man management are insightful cheers, two things our next gaffer will definitely need to be able to/ want to do really.

{Ed001's Note - the laziness in scouting and watching the youths was the worst things for me. He did a half arsed job, and it showed in the way our performances dropped gradually under his management. It is a shame because he is a nice enough guy and a Liverpool fan, but he believed his own hype and thought he was a great manager.}

19 May 2016 13:22:18
Yeah the league was lost after the crystal palace result.
Did you ever like him at Liverpool Ed or was it a gradual thing? Like the others said, I thought he got the job after his work with Swansea?

{Ed001's Note - I never thought he deserved the job, but gave him time to prove himself. He did prove himself. Proved himself to be more interested in himself and didn't treat the job with the respect it deserved.}

19 May 2016 13:27:51
I'd love to come on here and talk about all the top class managers we should be going for but if we're all honest, what top class manager is going to leave the job he is in to come to us? Some people on here think just because a manager got sacked from his last job that means he's a dud. Managers are like players, some just don't work out for what ever reason. I'm a Celtic man and I'll back any guy that gets the job, be it BR, NL or even MM. I might not like them but they're not bigger than my club. Obviously is like the new guy to be a big name but as we all know that doesn't guarantee success. We took a chance on RD and it didn't work out. Let's give the next guy the same benefit of the doubt we have him. HH.

19 May 2016 17:11:57
Hat same sport psych has been used successfully by a lot of sports team ps and individuals. I wouldn't say they bottled the league because of him. In actual fact his methods probably helped propel them to that level in the first place.

{Ed001's Note - I know exactly who he is and his methods, they are bull and they never helped Liverpool at all. They never had any pressure on them until the end of the season and then they folded. So his methods showed how nonsense they are. Fish oil salesman is all he is. You might not say it, but you know nothing about the situation so your mutterings are irrelevant.}

19 May 2016 18:08:25
Good post Tambow.

19 May 2016 21:06:41
sid, don't believe everything you read in the papers, especially in scotland, they have a struggle with facts.

19 May 2016 22:02:25
Cheers Island Celt, just thought it was something that had to be said, think some people on here are getting delusions that were a Barcelona or Real. We cannae attract the guy that mediocre English teams can attract. I personally think a guy like Rodgers could be good for us but if I'm honest, 16 year ago I thought MON would've been a flop so what do I know lol.

19 May 2016 23:06:34
I am quite happy for us to appoint a manager who as learned his trade at Chelsea Reading Swansea and Liverpool . Surely a reasonable training programme for Celtic Football Club.
